What are you asking? I got a two year plan which of course means I have the two year plan. Your question makes no sense man.

the phone is sold unlocked
you can just buy it outright
you can go on a month to month plan
no need to sign any stupid carrier locked up contract

i'm pretty sure he was trying to get the phone for cheap with a 2 year agreement, but IMO that is not worth it

To each his own, I suppose. In America, I'm very happy with T-Mobile, always have been. Only reason I left for a few months was I got talked into the "cheapness" of Sprint which ended up costing me more.

Oh I'm sorry guys, I was wondering if I could sign up with the data only sim plan for the nexus s

of course you can, you just wont get voice, but you can still use the SNS as a PDA with 3G

This is my plan, I am on sprint right now and when I look at my bill my minutes are so low I barely break fifty a month. Data usage can go high on months, I just plan on using my gizmo account with the built in SIP for the random call I need to make when I am about town, also will be porting in my current cell number into google voice.
and well hey if tmobiles coverage is so so in an area im in I can always go to mcdonalds and make a call on free wifi
thank u I just could not build that plan on best buys website

same boat here, me and my girl stayed with sprint to get those yearly upgrades and less than a year later they pull it. I might just go with buying the phone outright just exploring my options

To get a Nexus S with the data only plan (webConnect plan), you must buy the Nexus S at full price. Then call up T-Mobile and request the webConnect plan, and give them the SIM card number for your Nexus S (there's an unactivated SIM card included with every Nexus S).
The only way to get the subsidized price is to start a new 2-year voice+data contract.

Any way to NOT get reamed on phone+data+texting plans?

Just wondering if there are any good tricks or deals to minimize the monthly cost of owning and actually using one of these devices. I've been using LetsTalk for the last few years as I've not really found any cheaper way to get phones & plans, so most of my numbers are based on this. I did a quick spreadsheet for 24 month cost of ownership (ignoring taxes and fees for simplicity) and have attached that. Basically with AT&T you can go with the $40 voice plan and get the phone for $200, or the $60 plan and get it for free. Then add on $30 for data (the letstalk deal requires this for at least 6 months anyway) and another $5 for basic texting. I broke these down with comparisons to the iphone, sidekick 2008, the cricket slider my friend bought and the dirt-cheap samsung propel. I know this isn't exactly apples to apples but I'm doing this more to evaluate the cost/benefit of having a nice smartphone vs a decent voice/text platform with no data plan. Just kinda throwing this out there for feedback, I'm sure you guys know a lot more than I do about what is available and what can be done...

Mine is unlimited EVERYTHING and 100% free, and so is the second, third, forth and fifth line.
Ohh yea the data card is also.
Sorry I couldn't resist.
Ok, to make a long story short, I pay $20 a mo for unlimited data. I have had it for years from when I was with Cingular. I pay $5 for 250 texts and 39 for the lowest minutes. I own my own phone and have always bought unlocked phones and haven't had a contract in years.
So I wanted the Fuze and went to the Att store and was willing to sign a 2 year contract to get the phone for $299 but wanted to keep my plan EXACTLY like it is. Hre said no prob....until he started ringing me up. Stated my data plan was not compatible with the Fuze and I had to upgrade to the $30 a mo. I said no, he said you can't get the speacil price with the $50 rebate if I didn't. I said stuffit.
So, I am willing to pay $500 for the unlocked, no commitment phone from Att and will leave my plan as it is.
Question.....Does anyone know if the phone will be COMPLELTY unlocked or uncripled if I buy it for full price from Att? I want to take my sim out, put it in the new Fuze and keep on keepin on as I have for years.
Thanks

Search for my threads regarding media net. It will tell you all about it.
As for the device (full price) or (with contract renewal) its the same phone, it will be locked.
I don't know how but ATT knows what phone you're using on their network and will probably make you change it anyway. It happened to me when I got a Tilt.

[Q] Bestbuy plan? PLEASE ANSWER ASAP

When I use my 2-year contract at bestbuy to get the nexus s, will I just get the phone?
I don't have internet yet.
I need to know if they will (add internet when I get the phone)
or will I (get the phone only)
and then go to t-mobile to add internet.
please answer asap
(tried making the question really simple so no one gets confused.)
They should set up all of that in store

its like going to tmobile and getting a contract they will make you get the data plan there
If you pay $529 you can get it without internet.
If you only pay $199 then you get a 2 year contract and will have internet added to you plan.
Sorry to threadjack, though my question is certainly related.
If you're on an Even More Plus plan and you sign your contract to get the phone for $199, can you stay on the Even More Plus or will you be forced onto the more expensive Even More plan?

T-mobile won't allow you to convert an Even More Plus line into an Even More line of service.
I want the phone by upgrading, but I dont want the internet/web service/data plan/etc. (just the phone only).

I understand what both of you are saying, but I don't understand what that means for me and my account. Is that to say that the ONLY way for me to get this phone is going to be to buy it unlocked regardless? There's got to be a different way than that.

But to do an upgrade and get it at $200, you have to get a data plan, they will force you to get the data plan, you can try later online or calling tmobile and try to get it removed, but probably won't be able to.

I think you can't, since they get the phone with the data plan, you must have it for 2 years. If you take it off in less than 2 years, thats called breaking the contract and you have to pay uhhmmm $200, i think?

If that Best Buy SELLS T-Mobile service (not just prepaid), then they should be able to. Otherwise you'll need to buy full price and go to a T-Mobile store.

Can I sell my new Skyrocket? Or will I receive a penalty? Help, very desperate.

Hello everyone,
Times are tough. I need my phone for work but at the same time I also need some cash. Sadly I have to stick with my old Captivate. My plan was to sell my skyrocket, which I am already falling in love with.
I renewed my contract with ATT today at a ATT authorized small carrier dealer (Chinese shop). They ended up giving me the skyrocket for free. But the guy warned me that if I tried to sell the skyrocket then AT&T will terminate my contract. On my contract with this shop (AWG in San Gabrial Valley, CA), it says if my contract gets terminated in any kind of way within 180 days then I will owe AWG $300 for each PCS line. I have a family plan. He said if I wait 2 months then I can sell the phone, but not to sell it right away and that I need to use the phone during this 2 month period. He also said if I had an iPhone I would have to keep it for 6 months!
I don't know if this is true because I see people selling phones on craigslist left and right. Does anyone have any advice for me? Would AT&T really terminate my contract just because I choose to use my old phone?
SORRY FOR THE LONG POST! I hope you guys can help me here.
Its not true u can sell it your stuck with the sim card and bill for 2 years but u can sell the device ive done it so have many many others. Thats the great thing about phones with sim cards u can sell or trade them at your discretion. I traded my sgs2 for the skyrocket.
You should be able to sell it. The phone its self is not bindingly tied to the sim card it has. People do it with iphones, and well, every phone out there. I don't think at&t would terminate you for selling a phone. Now, if you sold/lost your phone with the sim card still in it and someone were to rack up alot of charges, then yeah, you might be penalized. If you do intact get charged, att cancels your contract, your cat gets eaten by a dog that subsequently gets hit by a car that gets hit by a semi, don't blame me as, I just was browsing and chimed in

Thanks guys. Yeah, I don't understand why ATT would terminate my contract out of the blue, specially for using my old phone. It just doesn't make sense or add up. I really wish I could have been apart of this great community. I hope ICS comes to you guys real soon.
Also, your sig on your internet speed and it being comcast = hilarious haha. For a second I thought it was your mobile phones speed!

You would only be penalized if the line in question is cancelled. You Dont have to keep the data plan. Very common misconception.
Newter55 is correct. Remove that data plan and save yourself $25 (or $15) a month. As long as the line in question is active, you will be fine. I know going into corporate retail can be a major drag, but it beats dealing with authorized retailers... it seems like lately 95% of fraud gets tracked back to dealers... everytime I get manager escalation regarding fraud, its the first question I ask my customers.. and 9 times out of 10, it all goes back to them. The funny part is when u try to contact the dealer and they act like you are speaking Swahili lol...

Read your contract very carefully. If it's something like the contract that I signed with Amazon, if I remove my phone/data package within the first 6 months, I will get charged $250 (from Amazon, not from AT&T). This is partly because I got the phone for $.01, instead of $249 like I would have paid directly through AT&T.
This is usually only the case with e-tailers. I have not yet seen this type of thing from authorized retailer stores, but there's a first time for everything.
I work in customer care at ATT

That's exactly my concern is too. I got the phone from Amazon for $0.1 and I am thinking about selling it and getting either the LG Nitro or Samsung Note but I'm worried about Amazon charging me $250.
It all depends where you bought it; read your contract. Do you have a contract with just AT&T, or do you have one with your retailer as well? If you have a contract with your retailer, for instance Amazon has contracts, you will pay a penalty if you change anything or take the phone off the line, even if you change the number. If you don't have a contract with your retailer, then you just have to deal with AT&T--for instance you bought the phone at Best Buy or a Corporate store. They don't seem to care what you do, as long as you pay your bill. Be careful, many AT&T stores look corporate, but are actually third party retailers.
Again, read your contract/contracts. Don't trust the advice of people who haven't read YOUR contract.

I disagree completly i bought a tmobile phone from amazon and sold it no penality same with att. They dont even know you sold it amazon cant monitor you att acount too see if you changed devices on your account. You sir are wrong. That would mean if you had an old phone and wanted to pop your sim out of your new one and use the old one amazon would charge you 250 because ur not using that phonE. Amazon does not know they get money from ATT for selling you the 2 year contract.... if you terminate you contract before the 2 years then yes they can charge you for it

Smh T-Mobile

So T-Mobile US pulled the E-Brake on wireless tethering and now if you want share the data you already pay 30.00/mo addl for (well me atleast), you now have now pay an addl 14.99/mo. I mean yes I keep up with the carrier market and I know they have had terrible numbers the past 2-3 years, but if ur tryng to pull your company out the mud you don't do it by making sadfaces on all you long time loyal customers. I mean can a brotha get a grandfathered account? Lol (hypothetical).
Anyway, I always thought since I was rooted I wouldn't run into this wireless tethering issue but I guess I was wrong. Anybody know or might know or even have an idea of a way around this? Many thanks in advance

I'm more than sure there will be a way around it, who actually uses the software that originally came with their devices when rooted. I heard the same thing and my next door neighbor has a Sensation and tethering works like a charm. Your not suppose too use it for running your game console and 90% of the time it's those people doing the complaining about using it and getting blocked.

Same here. With a 5gb or 10gb data plan, you can receive free wireless tethering.
If they are changing the contract you can get out of it. I got out of my contract with over a year left due to the changes they enacted on the 9th of April regarding data roaming. They did not want to let me get away without an ETF but I filed a complaint with my local Attorneys General and that fixed that problem real quick.
As of right now I have no contract anymore on my T-Mobile account, I'm just playing it by ear and waiting for a new phone to knock my socks off before I go find another carrier, but it is nice to know I can drop T-Mo at any moment without an ETF
People who were grandfathered in with true unlimited data aren't affected by this as well, right?
I've been tethering without anything going wrong.
I have the 5GB Grandfathered Preferred Android Data plan for $20 and I've been getting the tethering upsell screen. I heard that the free tethering add-on only comes with the $30 5GB plan or the 10GB plan and that they won't add it on to an Preferred Android Data plan.....
Edit: Called Customer Loyalty and they hooked me up with the free hotspot promo on both lines with Android Preferred Data plans after 2 online reps lied to my face. Customer Loyalty is the reason I stay with TMobile, those people are the best of the best and always help out long time customers. Thank you to all you CL reps out there, I know you're reading this

Yeah, they do tend to get you what you want now that the merger dropped. By chance did you ask them it doing that was going to extend your contract? When I did something similar when I had my G1, it ended up locking my service contract for an additional 24 months. My phone upgrade didn't change dates, just my service end date.

Yeah, they do tend to get you what you want now that the merger dropped. By chance did you ask them it doing that was going to extend your contract? When I did something similar when I had my G1, it ended up locking my service contract for an additional 24 months. My phone upgrade didn't change dates, just my service end date.

It didn't extend my contract, I asked and checked on the website after.
every time i call t-mobile, they keep offering me the hot spot. i let them know i already have it (i dont think it affects GB?) but they insist that i dont. since they are saying i dont have hot spot, does that mean i can use that as an excuse to get out of contract?

T-Mobile $30 Prepaid Plan Users Thread

This thread is for all users who might be interested in using T-mobiles Unlimited $30 plan/
Had to cancel the plan. Anytime i go over my 100 minutes the system insists on charging me $80.
I have to call customer service each time and spend nearly an hour on the phone. I'm so sorry Mr. Customer and blah blah blah. They never fix it so adios tmobile!
How much do you end up paying a month including taxes?

I wish. There has to be some service fees and stuff that gets added to the $30.

I don't think there is.
I also think people are paying about $28 or $29 for the refill, through refilmobi.com IIRC

Nope. Been covered in this massive thread.
Been using on my N4 for a while, planning on putting my sim in the N5 when I get it
I'm ditching Verizon and going with the $30/mo plan. Actually, I plan on going $45/mo and getting an extra 150 minutes.
Yeah, it looks like I'm going to be ditching Verizon too and going with this plan. I don't use anywhere near the minutes to justify unlimited talk time and I'm tired of the crap they do. I'd rather put up with potentially worse coverage to go with a better deal. And if more people decide on that, then maybe the coverage will get better.

ATTABOY!
I will probably give the Tmo $30 plan a try and do a comparison with the straight talk $45 AT&T LTE plan just to see who has the best signal/speed in the area I work/travel.
Currently using a VM wildfire S as a backup phone, so man am I ready for the N5 lol.

Although that Simple Choice plan became very very tempting.

I started using this plan while on the Nexus 1. I'm using the Galaxy Nexus now and plan on moving to the N5 when it comes out. I love it, saves me TONS of money. No tax, no service fees, just a straight $30 a month.
Here is what I do with my Nexus 4 (soon to be Nexus 5).
Tmobile $30 plan (5GB 4g, unlimited texts and 100min/month) - I get refills on eBay/Craigslist for $27-$28, no tax.
I have VOIPO home phone service ($185 for 2 years), which allows SIP connections. I use CSipSimple on N4 to allow SIP calling over Wifi/data.
I save the 100 minutes for emergency
I was paying AT&T $110/month for 2 smartphones, now I pay $56/month to Tmobile, love it.
If anyone is interested in VOIPO let me know (free month of service to referral and referee)
Cheers

It's hard to find on their website. Sometimes I find it, sometimes I can't. You either have to call or go to WalMart to get the $30 pre-paid plan.
