[Q] Hello... and HTC Desire running Ginger Villain :) - General Topics

Hey all!
Have finally rooted my Desire and installed Ginger Villain on it.
Have played about quite a bit, and searched the forum but there are 2 things I cannot seem to work out with it.
Ok... 1 is that when connecting headphones with a Mic, (the only ones I have tried are the Monster Dre Dre Beats Control talk)... i can hear people but the volume / answer controls dont work and neither does the mic. When rolled back to the standard 2.2 rom on my desire, all works fine (the icon shows a headset with mic, etc and all controls work).
Also.. does anyone know if there are any plans to include a good full page calender widget? The Sense 2.2 one is awesome, showing a full day's agenda etc, but the smooth calendar, when installed doesnt give the widget option on the GV rom, but does on the 2.2 stock?
Currently running GINGERVillain 0.8.
Thanks!
Kev

[APP PORT REQUEST] HTC Peep - Twitter Client

Any thoughts on this?
I love the UI for Peep and feel like it deserves to be graced onto the Nexus One.
+1 i loved this, maybe it will be in the ported desire rom!
It is. I just flashed the alpha Desire ROM shortly after posting this, and after using Peep for a bit, I don't like it too much! Just the widget is aesthetically pleasing haha
For the 100th time... u cannot use htc widgets on the n1. they use different frameworks thus the lack of compatibility.
Not just the widget, either, this app, peep, depends on HTC's framework, which is proprietary, and therefore can't be ported to work on a non-HTC ROM. If you want peep, you have to use a full HTC-Sense ROM, like Desire. Same thing with the widgets, the mail client, the music player (mostly--there has been some success getting it to port from Hero to Dream/Magic, way back in the day), or anything else that depends on HTC. In short, if it looks like Sense, you need a HTC ROM to use it.
its funny how the same question gets asked over and over and over again.

CM 6.1 or Liberated FR008

I have finally gotten my Aria rooted and running with both Liberated FR008 and CM 6.1. I am looking for people who have tried both and why they decided one or the other. I like the way CM lets you customize the Mod itself but I miss the Sense widgets that the Liberated has on it. I'm hoping that some of you have found things within either Rom that I have not discovered yet to push me in either direction. Thanks for the help.

CM without a doubt. Yea the sense widgets are nice and fancy but to be honest, that's a small sacrifice for complete customizability.

Do you use a Bluetooth headset with your Aria? If so, then CM 6.1 fully implements all of the BT Voice Dialing features that have been added to Froyo 2.2, whereas HTC has not fully implemented all of the BT Voice dialing features. Both of these ROMs will launch the Voice Dialing app by pressing the headset button, however, the Voice Dialing app can apparently be started in BT mode which allows you speak the voice command through the BT headset. On HTC Sense the Voice Dialing app will launch, but it is not running in BT mode, so you have to speak the commands into the phone's mic.
Another thing I noticed is that HTC is not using the Froyo email client which allows for a combined inbox.
Other than that, to each his own. I am running CM 6.1, but I have installed the HTC_IME keyboard; it is the only thing from Sense that I really missed.
They are both excellent roms, but I must agree with the above statements. Especially since CM is coming out with 2.3 for Aria hopefully in the near future.
I liked the sense widgets as well but I was able to fix that craving with beautiful widgets and launcher pro. Life is good on CM 6.1.1. Now if I could just fix my exchange bug that keeps showing up every couple of days...
None. I would choose Liberated R012. Works flawless and it doesn't lag like the Froyo ROM. CM is great but the basic android looks horrible to be honest.
A few things keep me on Sense, even though I really like CM. Last time I ran CM6, it did not have copy/paste in the Email app or the Browser whereas Sense has it. Gingerbread seems to have better text selection, so when that's available for Aria, I'm there!
Also, Gallery 3D does not run well on my phone.
Lockscreen gestures on CM are a pretty huge feature for me... without unlocking the phone, I can draw a heart to call my wife, an H to call home, a C to activate the camera and a V to activate the camcorder. You can use a gesture to do almost anything on the phone, so these are just a few basic examples.
guys I am looking at rooting my phone, but instead of flashing a whole new rom onto it, can I just do the root and have clockwork recovery installed, then can I install just the froyo update ontop of what I already have on my phone?

There is no Froyo update for your phone.
so the froyo rom thats release and is used by attn1 etc isnt that the froyo update? Cause I heard its available in Asia atm.
Also without the update or flashing a new room, but rooting the phone and installing titanium backup etc, I know that I can delete bloatware apps using titanium backup, can I also move apps to sd without having froyo installed but as the phone is rooted, will it allow me to do so?
Thanks again

ATTN is a rom, it is not an update. You have to start from scratch. Also you cannot remove bloatware with Titanium or any other app.
Liberated, but without sense launcher. I love the way sense sync does it's job and keep my contacts updated with their fb and twitter. I know there is ways for this in cm but its not the same. I use launcherpro because sense launcher is kinda laggy.
You will probably get bored sense Widgets after some time. I just like clock and weather widget and there is absolutely the same known as fancy widgets.

That's the kind of info I've been looking for, did not know CM could do that but still investigating the Rom. Thanks for the info.

I agree that R012 seemed more stable than FR008, and a tad more responsive. However, R012 does not support app2sd so I can't have as much crap on my phone as I do now. I did slim down the FR008 ROM a bit by removing the Mail, MMS, calendar apps, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube as well as most the Sense widgets (you delete them from ATTN1's zip file before flashing).
I have tried CM6, many people have good things to say about it but the UI just seems so... unpolished for lack of better word. Yeah, this is eye candy, but I like the Sense eye candy. Having 7 home screens helps too. Last but not least, for the life of me I cannot figure out how to disable the home screen animation and it annoys me to no end so CM had to go. Credit where credit is due... it does seem very zippy on the Aria.

Lag? Maybe it's because I am using Launcher Pro but my phone moves on both FR008 and CM 6.1.1. Very crisp and very responsive. The only thing that lags for me is the gallery app in CM. Everything in FR008 is butter.

I second launcherpro! I paid for launcherpro and beautiful widgets and I don't miss sense at all. Launcherpro has a nice calendar widget(like sense) and a nice messaging widget as well as some others. Launcherpro is faster than sense for me as well. Beautiful widgets can look just like the sense clock/weather widget but with tons of skins to choose from. Both are worth every penny.

No, you can't. Titanium backup will not do this on nand-locked phones, even with root. Until S-OFF is available for the Aria, it is nand-locked.
The Froyo IS available for the Aria if you have clockwork - just flash LA FR008 or CM6 - soon CM7.

Soon CM7?? yay!
Sounds exciting. How long are we going to wait approximately for a RC version?

[Q] CoreDroid rom questions

Hi,
I've just started with the rooting and flashing business and yesterday I finished rooting my Desire HD and flashed a few ROM's. Great stuff!
I've settled for CoreDroid Rom (included today's update to v. 6.3.3), but I've got two questions about it:
1. Don't know if there's an option missing or if it's supposed to be like this, but my Gmail-account (mail, calendar etc.) won't push anymore to my DHD. Used to work perfectly when Unrooted, and with other Rom's, but now not any more. Anybody got an idea?
2. CoreDroid has got the new HTC Lockscreen and I think it's kinda cool. But how can I customize it? Now there's only the ring to pull up, but I know that it should be possible to add some apps or links to apps on it you can pull into the ring for a direct launch...
Hope someone can help.
Thanks!
Never mind question 1. Seems to have been solved (probably after I rebooted)...

[Q] Sense Rom with Bluetooth Stack?

Ive Been looking for a Sense based ROM for my Inspire 4G that includes a BT Stack that supports HID devices, Ive done my Research and have only found a couple things:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1128343
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=767150
Now I know that both those have the "Just install CM7 it does everything" answer somewhere in the thread, and honestly, I did just that, I rooted my phone and installed CM7. and the Wiimote and Sixaxis controlers work great with my GBA and Sega Genesis Emulators.
But I don't like a lot of the CM7 interface Choices, such as the Phone that comes with it, and I prefer the HTC Message widget over anything I can find in the market.
On top of that It seems that the process has also Done away with my HSUPA
My Question: Is there any Sense Roms out that have Added the BT Stack that CM7 Uses.
And if not, since their code is on Github, how hard would it be to Modify a sense based rom to add the BT implementation?

No There isnt as alot of the sense parts are coded just for the HTC drivers. Would need to be able to change the base sense coding for the new drivers.
Thanks a Bunch, Guess its back to looking for a Rom,
Second Question: Im looking at Android Revolution and NoSense++
If this removes the Sense Launcher, It seemingly keeps all the things I like:
HTC Dialer
HTC Lockscreen
HTC Contacts app
Facebook for htc sense(I could Deal without this but a +)

and removes the things I can live without:
Sense launcher
Sense Skins
All HTC Widgets
HTC Direct
HTC Hub
HTC Peep
HTC Recommends
HTC Wallpapers

Ereader and some Ebooks.

News and Weather
RSS Reader
Stock
Weather app
Voice Dialer

Would this be the begining of a fix? Possibly to Install BT drivers after all this as a 3rd step? (from a non technical explination) Would it be possible to create a Script to then add the CM7 BT implementation, since sense is removed(though I'm not sure what else would get in the way...)
Only a theory

Even with those removed the rom still relies on the com.HTC.resources.apk and the sense jar files. Those are the ones where the coding would need yo be changed. Unless HTC updates the drivers to do this then it will not happen.

[Q] n00b question regarding custom jb roms

hey guys, ive been a lurker on this forum for some time, but just got around to registering an account yesterday. I've been looking at all the jb custom roms for the One X and I am beyond tempted to start running some. But the few following questions about features and functionality I have not been able to find answers to:
1. Does loading non sense roms lose the beats audio equalizer on the phone? if not, which roms have the beats audio feature still in it?
2. I use my phone for a lot of music, I use a lot of google play music, and the stock music player on my device, and the sense setup has lock screen music widgets for me to change tracks and what not. Do any of the custom roms feature the ability to change tracks from the lockscreen?
Those are pretty much the only questions I have at the moment, can anyone reccomend any stellar roms out there that are ahead of the rest of the pack? So far, the biggies i see are of course cyanogenmod and aokp but Im getting the urge to start diving into my phone.
Thanks guys!
Should have posted in q&a forum.
Read, read an then pick one an try it, if you want stockish types of things stay with sense based ROMs.
