[Q] Sense Rom with Bluetooth Stack? - HTC Inspire 4G

Ive Been looking for a Sense based ROM for my Inspire 4G that includes a BT Stack that supports HID devices, Ive done my Research and have only found a couple things:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1128343
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=767150
Now I know that both those have the "Just install CM7 it does everything" answer somewhere in the thread, and honestly, I did just that, I rooted my phone and installed CM7. and the Wiimote and Sixaxis controlers work great with my GBA and Sega Genesis Emulators.
But I don't like a lot of the CM7 interface Choices, such as the Phone that comes with it, and I prefer the HTC Message widget over anything I can find in the market.
On top of that It seems that the process has also Done away with my HSUPA
My Question: Is there any Sense Roms out that have Added the BT Stack that CM7 Uses.
And if not, since their code is on Github, how hard would it be to Modify a sense based rom to add the BT implementation?

No There isnt as alot of the sense parts are coded just for the HTC drivers. Would need to be able to change the base sense coding for the new drivers.

Thanks a Bunch, Guess its back to looking for a Rom,
Second Question: Im looking at Android Revolution and NoSense++
If this removes the Sense Launcher, It seemingly keeps all the things I like:
HTC Dialer
HTC Lockscreen
HTC Contacts app
Facebook for htc sense(I could Deal without this but a +)

and removes the things I can live without:
Sense launcher
Sense Skins
All HTC Widgets
HTC Direct
HTC Hub
HTC Peep

Would this be the begining of a fix? Possibly to Install BT drivers after all this as a 3rd step? (from a non technical explination) Would it be possible to create a Script to then add the CM7 BT implementation, since sense is removed(though I'm not sure what else would get in the way...)
Only a theory

Even with those removed the rom still relies on the com.HTC.resources.apk and the sense jar files. Those are the ones where the coding would need yo be changed. Unless HTC updates the drivers to do this then it will not happen.

Htc apps to nexus

I want to know how I can install a few apps that are from the HTC DESIRE to our nexus.
I have the APK's but when I use root explorer or astro I get a DID NOT INSTALL.
I want to install:
- HTCMUSIC (SWEET PLAYER!)
- HTCNAVIPANEL
- HTCSTREAMPLAYER
And a few others.
I tried adding them to the nexus app update zip that installs fine after I install a bare rom. But it will not work that way.
Any suggestions? I REALLY want these apps on my nexus!
get the Paul's (Modaco) Desire ROM for the Nexus... as far as I know, only a few apps work without the Rosie (HTC Sense) framework
Search Feature, does wonders...
You can't just drop Sense UI APK's into a stock ROM and expect it to work, the Sense Framework is not there and there is really no point in porting it because of the work involved.

No DUH search helps and I DID search just so I don't have to read comments like yours to do a search. What am I suppose to search for that will give me the answer you just did? No need to answer. Most people are not so "informed" as you or have the knowledge to kow what to search for. So why not just relax and take a humble pill and help out nicely!

DUH, if you searched you would not that. You need to learn how to search better. Best bet is to just use one of the roms that are already HTC Roms.
It's not hard to learn how to search for what you really want to look for. If you think it's hard then maybe you should've bought an iphone.

I had the desire rom but it has issues. I make calls and after the call the phone locks up and wont turn the screen on. Sometimes I'm in the email app and it closes on its own. But the htcmusic and is nice so I just wanted to install a few of the desire apps. I did get the desire keyboard working so that was nice.

Not to sound flamish but if you did search you would of seen several threads asking for the same thing, (How can I port the music app/weather/etc, and given the same answers. Most of the HTC apps require the Sense framework. It would be a ton of work to port the framework over to a non-Sense rom. One could say it would be........nonsense to try <insert dr evil laugh>. If you dont like the launcher or widgets, what you can do is install the Sense rom and then change the Rosie Launcher to the stock one and also switch out the apps you are having problems with. For the most part non-Scense apps will run on Sense but not vice versa.
@JasjarMan, just to make things clear... Sense UI is an OEM extension to the Android framework by HTC. It has several components not available in the stock Android framework. Sense UI framework is proprietary and porting the framework would be very difficult (but not impossible) considering it's not open source.
As @MonkySlap said, most of the stock Android applications and components would work on the HTC Desire ROM port considering the fact that beneath the HTC framework lies the stock Android framework.
And yes, there are tonnes of threads where this question has been answered before.
That said, there is a port of the old HTC music application (not the Desire 2.1 application) which works on non-Sense ROMs... something a little search would retrieve... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=651889&highlight=HTC+music+app

I'm not sure what you mean by "wifi modem," but the WiFi connects and works.
Rotating the Sense home screen is interesting - but when you get back to Portrait, the top of the default clock gets truncated. Very odd.
And the Search button doesn't search. It tries to launch Facebook stuff. I solved this in Salsa by using a button remapper, which works just fine.
I'm not sure what the advantages are of this ROM over the Salsa ROM, other than the screen-off animation and power menu.
I've had decent luck using Salsa - I like Sense. If it were a little snappier, I'd REALLY be happy.
I couldn't access the market, just kept loading forever

Salsa Fresca 1.2
Tried Salsa_Fresca_1.2.zip after a clean wipe of the device.
Everything seems to work good, even bluetooth!
The only thing missing in 1.2 is mapping of long press of Search (hardware button) it pulls up facebook even with voice search enabled. and of course Radio was not functional, but at least BT was!
Also is there a method to manually remove facebook completely from this ROM or is it too integrated into Sense for removal?
Keep up the great work!

It doesn't... at least not for me. It's still a hit or miss. Other things that are not working properly:
- Lockscreen: We don't have the applications showing.
- Wi-Fi: Seems like it drops every now and then. Then it reconnects.

FWIW, I've been trying to get a kernel that works for these Salsa ROMs that supports all the accessories that Liberty needs to work with Gingerbread Sense. It's tough because official HTC kernels for the Aria ended at 2.6.32 and Sense Gingerbread seems to need something extra only available in 2.6.35. So far all my attempts have resulted in hangs at boot that hang even before I can get a logcat so I don't have any idea what's failing.
The 2.6.32 kernels work, but they spawn 2 or 3 flushd processes that collectively consume 96% or more of the cpu making them unusable.
I've put this on the back-burner for now but hope to be able to port over the board-liberty kernel files from CM7's kernel to the official Gingerbread Sense 2.6.35 source tree, but it's been an uphill battle.
Bluetooth, Facebook and etc.
As long as I have bluetooth on before I turn on the bluetooth headset, the headset (a motorola HK210) always connects. I always turn off BT on the Phone whenever I am not using it to save batteries. Then I turn it back on before I connect the HK210 while driving etc. So maybe it's turning it off and on that makes it work perfect. Not exactly sure but I have had not issues beyond the initial pairing.
As to removing Facebook and fixing the Search button. I just unzipped the Salsa_Fresca_1.2.zip to a directory. I edited the liberty-keypad.kl file as described by _jfo_. Thank you so much _jfo_. Then I removed Facebook.apk, HtcFacebook.apk, HtcFacebookChat.apk, HtcFacebookChatWidget.apk, and HtcFMRadio.apk (Since Radio was not working anyway.)
Then I rezipped, copied to my microsd card, clean wiped, flashed the zip with Clockworkmod and all is great! BTW I use My Backup App to backup call logs, MMS and SMS to my microSD and then restore them after the flash. Since these are the main things I really need the app has served me well and is well worth $4.99.
As far as the lock screen I would suggest removal of the "rosie_scroll" directory on your microSD card if it is there. I did and then a clean wipe/flash and now lock screen works perfectly. Even pulling the Phone, Mail, Camera and Messages to the ring works. Then pulling the ring up reveals the 9 dots etc like expected.
Thanks to all!
Gene Poole - Hang in there with the kernel thing. In the end polish is worth the time wait.
I figured it was not going to be an easy mission. But keep up the work. In the meantime, BT is bearable as is since I only use it when I talk and drive.
Thanks for your work and devotion Gene.

[REQ] HTC Sense 3.5 - new feautures (Notes, Tasks, FB Chat) for Sense 3.0 & 2.1

Hello everyone.
I've been playing with new HTC Sense 3.5 for some while now (RCMix3d rom for DHD) and I personally love some of the new apps made by HTC. Since i'm more into 3.0 at the moment, i have been trying to port some new apps to HTC Sense 3.0 or even 2.1 so more people could use them.
Since im no pro in dev. those apps force closed whatever i did. I couldn't get them to work properly. I'm talking about new Notes, Tasks, Fb Chat apps and widgets.

i tried this also yesterday. i can see icon on app drawer but it doesn't work. force close issue.
yeah, i have no idea what's causing the problem :s
its clearly not compatible with 3.0, needs some changes imo
any1 know whats causing that issue?

Your problem is you have to use the framework.apks and other apks they are dependant on.... So it will prob not be possible since they changed alot of things.... If you do use framework_res and com.HTC.resources from these roms on the old roms it will prob cause more harm than its worth

So there is a great possibility that those apps won't ever get ported to 2.1 or 3.0 unless framework could be ported too? is it even possible?
framework-hacking is possible ! so it is not impossible !
HTC Facebook chat App+Widget
Okay, i've found one of those apps above.
Its FB Chat, taken out from HTC Salsa.
XDA TOPIC LINK
It is possible but it take a fair bit of coding if you are to do it correctly
I already merged all changes from 3.5 com.htc.resources and Rosie in respective 3.0 apk`s and compiled 3.5 apk´s against new merged com.htc.resources. New framework compiled and works fine, still no success. Troubleshooting is getting harder, since the 3.5 apk`s are also pulling from shared m.10 files and these are impossible to merge with the current tools. So that might be tougher, then 3.0 mods to 2.1, where we could merge all needed resources in apk`s, jars and add missing libs (which was tough enough - kudos to seo).
I guess adding the sense style launcher to 3.5 would be less of a cruisade

hmm yea, what about that sense 3.0 launcher merging with 3.5 one? or basicly just making a theme with 3.0 dock could work also..
but first sense 3.5 needs to have better base for doing that imo
also, those notes and tasks are completely new or have the apps been seen anywhere else? Since HTC Status already got the "new" fb chat intergration..
PS: by the way, i heard somewhere that sense 3.5 UI is being accelerated by GPU? Is it true? And if yes, can this be done to 3.0 too?

HTC native browser vs vanilla ICS browser questions

Hi All,
I am currently an iPhone user, but this phone may make me change league. Just a few questions regarding this particular device running HTC Sense 4.
One of the reason I considering change league is because ICS finally support full OpenGL ES rendering in the browser and all over the UI.
As far as I know, HTC devices use their own branded theme HTC Sense, which bundled with its own browser rather than the vanilla ICS browser. I noticed that the vanilla ICS browser has the option to enable full OpenGL ES render path. This make the browser work a lot faster and better surfing exp. I wonder if HTC's native browser has the same setting(s). Or is it already coded to enable OpenGL ES rendering?
If not, can I change the default browser to something, say the vanilla ICS chrome browser? or Dolphin? (not sure if Dolphin support OpenGL ES rendering though.)
Thanks.
It's still the same Ice Cream Sandwich browser just with HTC Sense themed over it, but the code inside the browser should be a bit different for the Tegra 3.
As long as you enable 'Full 2D GPU Rendering' or something in the developer setting, other browser should have it.
Thanks,
Is there any easy way to disable the Sense Theme then? or even run vanilla ICS? Coz in previous HTC releases, Sense of earlier versions really slow the UI experience or even lagging, that put me off a bit even they have some of the highest-end hardware in the market.
Or Does it mean that unlock bootloader, root access or even custom ROM will be needed??

As far as removing Sense (I did it on my Sensation), you will probably need to do all 3 (unlock bootloader, root access and installing a custom ROM) in my case i used Android Revolution HD, with the noSense script applied directly after installing ROM.
My guess is that it will be the same sort of thing to do it to the One S.
Hope that helps

Thanks mate,
Although I may not like the Sense theme applied to the UI and browser, I found that the HTC's touch on the camera app is quite well received. I wonder if there is any possible ways to keep the camera app HTC way and just stop the Sense theme from working over the UI and Browser?
Cheers.
You can always change launcher to GO launcher, ADW or Launcher pro. That wont take sense away completely but a big part of it. That can be done without root.

That's brilliant, thank you.
In terms of rooting the device and unlocking the bootloader, how hard will that be? As I know Sony's Xperia range even offer official unlock bootloader support, how good is this for the HTC's? Sorry for the noob questions.
You can unlock the bootloader via the HTC Dev website and there is already a method for rooting in the developer section of this forum.
The only true way to get rid of sense is to flash an AOSP rom, CM9 for example. AOSP is basically the stock android OS but when and if AOSP roms show up for this phone is hard to say. A lot of people buy HTC for sense so sense roms tend to be more popular.
AOSP means you will lose the HTC camera app which means you will lose all the cool features like burst mode. As mentioned you can use a different launcher, some like Apex launcher are based on the stock android launcher so it will be a good way to get the stock feel whilst keeping all the HTC apps. This is probably what I will do, as much as I prefer AOSP in general I don't want to lose the camera app.

Thanks mate,
but using the launcher method will mean that I only get rid of the UI Sense home, but still need to stick with other HTC Sense features like HTC style multitasking, etc. where I prefer the original ICS.
What a shame! This phone is really a beauty in built and form factor is perfect for me. But many little flaws put me off a bit and a second thought is really in my mind...
e.g. The camera's output is too soft, the HTC sense in a burden for ICS, etc.

Installing Sense 4.0 Roms

I am currently running ARHD 6.6.4 and while it's great, I think I'm getting a little tired of Sense 3.6. My question is that, other than the usual superwiping and flashing the zip, is there anything else I need to do to? I already have the 3.32 firmware.

that option is very well supported when changing roms
What ROM's are you using?
I've installed this one:

There is already several things that I miss from 3.6.
For instance the application list when pulling down the notifications screen.
Also do I miss the quick settings menu and the task manager. Are these missing only in this port, or is it actually removed as default from the original "Sense 4" ROM on "HTC One X" ?

Also do I miss the quick settings menu and the task manager. Are these missing only in this port, or is it actually removed as default from the original "Sense 4" ROM on "HTC One X" ?

You don't really need task manager.... Just long press the home ui button
Sent from my Sensation using XDA
I know that this is possible, but you get no cpu/memory statistics or possibility to force close the applications from the program list you'll brows from the home button.
The question was not for if i need them or not.
You don't need chocolate, but you want it and eat it non the less.
It's all about how you actually work with your phone and how you use it.
These features (program list, quick settings and task manager) were really nice, easy and quick to access. So I am really wondering what HTC are doing if they actually are removing nice to have features that's neither bloaty, confusing or in the way.
The question are still if this is actually the same for the original One X ROM and all the other Sense 4 phones, or if this is just removed from the ported ROM?

Hi !
ARHD is definitely a great ROM but one grows tired of the Sense 3.6 look. I really enjoy the deSensed look of some ROMs but those were still buggy. So, the nicest , most balanced alternative I found so far is SharkDrOiD S3 v1.4 which has, I think, all the features you're looking for.
You might want to try it out.
Cheers !
