Skype BIGBIG Traffictrap!! - Android Apps and Games

Hey!
While using Smartphones for more than 2 years and beeing a computer-enthusiast I'm pretty much stumped at the moment.
I just got a 350€ phonebill ....
The first thing i did ofc was check my online-bill and see there ->
At 5 different days my handy consumed 500mb each within a few hours .
I didn't use any trafficmonitoring tools since i NEVER(!) topped 200mb. I just used my phone to surf a bit and check for e-mails.
This month i installed Skype. I did NO Phonecalls and chatted for a few hours tops which resulted in horrendous 2 gig traffic (my contract covers 1gb)
Just wanted to tell you guys to take care!

This is why I use 3G Watchdog Pro and APN Droid, because, you just never know
I had a similar problem last year, had a £99 bill which didn't get capped at £45 over like it should.

how long do you get on a single charge? i would like to buy one of these devices and use Exchange push, but if it can't last the whole day, forget it. That was why i ebay'd my iPhone. i would like a device to last ALL day. can the Fuze do it?
that depends on what else you doing with the device, long phone calls etc, if all you were doing was push email, you should be fine
well, what about if i talk for about 20 - 30 minutes per day....
what if i watch a handful of youtube videos....
what if i browse the net with WiFi for 15 minutes....
i am just asking for someones actual battery stats.
More than likely, you will not make it through the whole day if your watching youtbue videos, talking on the phone and using WiFi. Add GPS to that mix and I promise you it will not last more than a few hours.
I flashed my TP to ROMeOS 1.40 with radio .28 and have absolutely no problem getting two days with normal usage. I have Exchange syncing as items arrive. If I added some wifi and video as you suggest, it might struggle to get two whole days without charge, but certainly no problem with one day's heavy usage at all. And "heavy usage" would include some TomTom - a big battery drain.
perfect. exactly what i was looking for. thanks. i'm on my way to the AT&T store now.
I've had mine a few weeks now. It has Exchange push mail on all day(syncing as items arrive), and I'll make a few phone calls. I get about 2-3 days out of it doing that from full charge to almost empty.
If I use TomTom it's massively reduced.

data destroys battery

so my battery life id say is average it may go down about 5 pct an hour with average use as in just texting or messing with it but no calls or internet.
when data gets turned on i often lose about 7 percent in 10 minutes.
im on 3G so obviously some drain is expected but this is absurd and didn't happen in the past.
any ideas?
or where have people found the best deals for batteries maybe i just need a new one
thats not obserd thats normal lol and ur lucky if im txting like all the time my battery may last maybe 3 hours lol
You might want to consider changing your radio version.
Out of intrest how old is your touch pro? I've had mine 18 months and the battery life over the past month or so has been degrading rapidly. I find that if i play a game then i get about 30 minutes battery life and web browsing kills the battery too in 2 hours. expansys or handtec should have replacement batteries available.
i just updated rom and radio and hasnt been a noticeable change.
i got it the day before it was released on att back in november so about 13 months now
yea i know what u mean i cant even get 3g to turn off and there is no 3g in my area only max edge if i am lucky

do you know how to get 3g to show up in the comm manager but it wont turn off? or need help with that in general

My take as a new Thunderbolt owner

Look, this may not be a 28nm quad core phone with a 4.5" IPS 720p display, but we're getting there.
This is the best LTE phone still. Samsung has the AMOLED, but HTC gave this one the dual radio chipset and 4 antenna to give you the best reception, and since this phone is all about LTE, that's what makes it the best.
Battery life is the boon of LTE. You can get 3 hours of mobile hotspot if you're serious, but take today for example. Been at work for 4 hours with wifi on, and my battery still hasn't hit 80%.
Why is it I see everyone complain about the TB battery life?

Because its easy to drain. The phone has a smaller than average battery and the 4G tech is power hungry.
I've had the phone since release, and I'm always testing tweaks to improve the battery life. This phone is a beast, so it can tear through the stock battery, depending on your use. I only have experience with the TB on LTE though, so I'm not sure how it is for the Charge. I wouldn't trade the TB for anything else though.
been using the phone for about a week and battery life really depends on how its used. for example, on days im constantly texting and using apps, the battery lasts me only half a day. but yesterday i was heading into nyc and needed the phone to last me the whole day and once i limited my usage of it, it did last. the phone doesnt drain battery very fast unless its under intense usage.

The problem with that statement is we shouldn't be forced to limit our phone use to make it through a day. I am not advocating heavy usage...2 days worth of battery etc, but under normal daily conditions the battery should make it through a day...meaning a combination of all the general things done on a smartphone, and then kinda averaged out to make it thorugh 10 or 12 hours.
I know all the arguments about it all ways...all I am saying is a smartphone should make it through a normal day usage...almost as a standard.
I am still torn on the phone...but I have trouble making decisions for myself...so no suprise to me there...I like some of the features of the phone, but really am just blah on it. The power button is under sensitive, the volume buttons overly sensitive and IMO in the wrong spot...dislike the feel of it in my hand *(had it since Tuesday).
The only appealing factor to me is the fact that AOSP has made it (and HTC's recent annoucement regarding unlocked bootloaders...makes me want to buy into the cause....and is what is deterring me from other LTE phones (I dont know why I give it so much thought we won't have LTE here til sometime before December (hopefully)...I just was ready for an upgrade, figured why not get at least unlimited LTE til sometime in 2013 (at the least..)
I am leaning heavily on bring this back for the charge...or waiting til the bionic....though AOSP is a very important factor for me in choosing a phone
I haven't had my Thunderbolt for long, but I'm enjoying it so far. I've liked HTC phones since my days with WinMo, and the TB is an evolutionary, not revolutionary, step up from the Incredible that I replaced. Digging the larger screen and LTE is fast in my area (Pittsburgh). I think it has a better feel than the Incredible, too. I didn't mind the tiered back, but it felt mostly plasticky. The TB definitely seems to be made out of higher-quality materials.
Battery life is it's weakness, though, but it's not a deal breaker. I can go from the time I wake up until the time I go to bed with it, for the most part (although I was able to go 2 days on a charge with the Incredible). I don't think I'm a particularly heavy user, though... an hour of talking, maybe a dozen texts, an hour on the internet, and sporadic checking of my email or Twitter. I keep my brightness set to about 30%, GPS and Bluetooth are off, all vibration is off, Twitter and email are set to update manually. Weather updates every three hours, contacts whenever.
So far I really like my TB. Battery life isn't the greatest but there are people working on that.
We weren't supposed to get 4G until Dec also but it showed up a few days ago.

Is not the phone in TB pretty crappy? It least on mine I get a ton of static when talking on the phone, and the volume is often either too loud or too soft, as if the range for volume control is not wide enough. It feels like my old clamshell from 3 years ago sounded much better.

I wouldn't say it's crappy. I'm not getting static or anything on it. But it does sound a little tinnier than my Incredible did.

This is the primary reason I hate my TB. I use Exchange and Gmail push mail and I have done everything I could to reduce battery life, incl. limiting background data like weather, but my phone still only last 5 hours under normal usage. My old iPhone 4, with the same usage, will last another 3 hors at the minimum.

Wow, 5 hours? That's crazy.
I use my phone to stream music for about 1 - 3 hours a day, sync google calendar, contacts, and gmail, and weather widget and I can get about 20 hours. If I start playing games or make long phone calls, that definitely makes a difference. But I can easily get 20 hours with moderate usage.
Have you thought or rooting and running a different ROM/kernel? I'm running Tesla Coil with leankernel and I love it!
edit: I also leave wifi, bluetooth, and GPS on all day. Wifi is set to sleep after 15 minutes. I'm also in a 4G area.
Well... that is the problem. I'm trying to use my TB professionally. I use it to join conf calls, always with my bluetooth headset, check and reply company emails, etc.
It just doesn't cut it. I always have to recharge it mid day. I never had to do the same with my BlackBerry Curve or Tmobile G2, specially the G2.
Problem is not always I have the option to recharge. And just the fact that I have to pay attention and monitor battery level is not good.
I need a phone that I can use A LOT for email (a lot!!!) and calls, several calls per day, with bluetooth. The TB is not this phone.
I've had mine sine thursday and the battery sucks. It reminds me of the original droid which I ultimately had to buy the Seido extended battery for to get the use I wanted out of it.
If you leave it in 3g it will go all day. On Friday my wife and I went looking at houses (we're shopping to buy) using my wifi xoom to do research while accessing data through the mobile hotspot. We drove around for about 4 hours and the TBolt still had 50%charge when I got home and I still had power when I put it on charge at bedtime. This was on 3g though.
Yesterday we did the same thing but I left 4G on. We drove off at about 2:00PM with a 90% charge on the phone. By 3:15 it was down to 39%. That's ridiculous, and the phone was crazy hot too.

You are probably in a sketchy 4g area and probably used more data. Both will make a huge difference in battery life.

Maybe, but it appears to have a pretty good signal. I haven't been watching that cloely but when I have looked it hasn't had below two bars. They claim the whole city is well covered and quite a bit of the countryside around it. Jacksonville Fl. may not have the *most* in population but it is the *biggest* city in the state.
The TB is Verizon's first CDMA+LTE phone & has its shortcomings, just like any other 1st-gen technology. The battery is only 1400mah, so don't expect it to last as long as 3G-only phones with similar battery size. You can extend battery life by disabling nonessential apps/services & turning off 4G when you don't need it. You can also flash a custom rom & battery sipping kernel, but a lot of ppl are not willing to go that far, especially with the recent bricking issues. The best way to ensure you have enough juice w/o recharging is to buy an extra battery & charger. You can get both from ebay for less than $20. Then you won't have to gimp your TB just to make it through the day

I said the phone on t-bolt was crappy. People who said the word crappy was inappropriate were correct, thanks for that, it is not crappy. But, coming off at&t iPhone I immediately noticed that t-bolt did not sound as good, and this he first time ever I noticed a difference in call sound when switching phones, so got a bit upsetting I guess. By now I am used to it and sounds ok to me.

When you realize that this phone is more powerful than the computer I took to college and it's running on a battery the size of a saltine cracker, it's only logical that it won't last all day if you're using it nonstop.
Older phones seemed to last forever because all it did was make calls and the occasional text. I had the original enV and if I sat around using AIM and playing what few games were available the battery drained like my bank account at a strip club. Android phones? Fugeddaboutit. We're talking, texting, streaming, listening, WiFi hotspotting, playing, and recording all day long and DON'T think we'll need a power boost? Puh-lease.
Buy a spare battery, keep a charger handy, or just use it more conservatively.

O3D from GumMobile UK, faulty or has to be like that

I bought my o3d from gum mobile UK, after month and a half daily use, I'm worried if my phone is damaged or not, I have 3 batteries for phone now to survive day at work. When I listen music and use MSN, battery dies after 4 to 5 hours, recently started to happen weird stuff with 2g network, I used to use 2g only option to save battery but now my radio signal is 1 to 0 like week ago I had it all the time at 4. Phone is Simfree and I use o2. Yesterday my 2g network continuously swapped between e to g every min causing my phone staying without signal, so I had to use 3g to get atleast some network signal, its at 0 to 2 on 3g but also was at about 3 to 4 before.
My battery drains like 30 % per hour when playing dungeon defenders 2 and when I'm on standby its about 5 to 10% per hour, I changed LG home to go loader ex to fix Android system to use 60 % of battery but battery life still hasn't improved.
Anyone experience same issue and how good are gum mobile UK return faulty product policy ?
H.
Seems about normal that, battery life is not that good then again most smart phones don't last much these days.
Since you had the phone for a while they might tell you to take it up with lg if you are having issues.
But I don't see it as faulty, though
Today started to happen complete madness with phone, since I'm using 2g most is the time, today my sister couldn't call me neither I could call her back while with 2g network with 3g I could call and text her but when I also tried to call friend of mine who stood next to me, I couldn't because some weird error occur saying that connection was impossible to made. Has anyone experiencing samelately?
I'm on o2 and such weird stuff started to happen few days ago. Is there problem with phone or It's O2?
Hey there,
I'm with O2 as well and my 3G is ALWAYS off and I've never had this problem.
I'm in London I dunno about you.
Perhaps your region isn't so go with 2G?
I mean I dunno for sure this but I have no probs here with my 3G off.
And the battery isn't the best of this phone, but you can do some stuff that might help to improve its life.
At work, where I have access to internet, I switch off the Wi-Fi from my phone and that has helped a lot!
Don't worry your phone shouldn't be a problem. Try to restart it to see if it helps or something.
As its only just started happening then give O2 a call, perhaps they have a problem in your area.
Even if they deny it I would be inclined to give it a week or so before worrying about it being a problem with the phone.
I also have doubts about 2G saving much battery power compared to 3G on the Optimus 3D, as it uses so much power idling anyway. I have tried my phone overnight in airline mode, 2G and 3G, it doesn't seem to make a great deal of difference unless you accidentally leave messenger running which really kills the battery.
I not touched my O3D lately as I hate the battery life, picked up a Galaxy S2 last week and I can easily last 2 days on this phone and the choice of custom roms out is insane, take away the 3D side and it trumps the O3D in every department.
I am absolutely fed up with this phone. Have the above isdues and more. I am so angered that I paid for this piece of junk a efin premium price on a contract and now I'm stuck with this phone. Battery life is unbelievable. Never once had it such lousy batterylife with a smart phone. I have to reboot this jubk phone every then and now to work with it. LG u make me sick.

Hi all.. Before i begin the rant, i will ask everyone to excuse me for any bad language i might use but i've reached a point where i haven't been in all these years, a point of so much dissapointment and rage, words cannot even describe.. Okay.
15 days ago i bought a Note 3 from a local store and problems began 8 hours into the day. I charged it from 50% (factory) to the full 100% took it out of the plug and i don't know what i was expecting, but with moderate use (screen at low but constant usage, youtube app, facebook and some internet browsing) about 4-5 hours screen time that is, at around 6-7 hours the battery was already 15%.. Okay i told to myself it's the first day "what you gonna do".. Fast forward because i don't wanna waste your time reading this whole text, next day i had even worse so i did 2 factory resets (because i screwed up some of the application manager apps) and it was still ****.. I began to get used to having a ****ty battery life but i guess a good screen, but now, i've had enough.. I updated the firmware yesterday and it is bull ****ing ****.. Then i started to turn off applications again and i panicked and then for some reason the gallery wouldn't show up so i turned some things again on and it did, now i disabled some again and things work blablabla, but 1 hour into the battery ( i think 1 hour might be 1 and a half i don't know) it's at 75% having 2 episodes of two and a half men and disabling enabling apps..
I haven't ever ever EVER had so many problems with a device, i really don't know if i was just ****ing expecting a limousine or something but i'm getting a poor zastava and i feel so so so ripped off.. As an iPad 3 owner and a previous iPhones 3gs owner, yes the apps are limited and yes it's definetely slower, but i can get 2-3 days out of the battery and whatnot.. Plus, i won't panic and lose my brain and have my whole body tremble as i don't know what the **** i'm disabling and what should be disabled what kind of this app this is, i.e sns, printing services, all kinds of ****.. Please tell me note 3 users what your experiences are (I got mine 15 days ago preloaded with ****kat so jelly bean users don't rub it in my face, i couldn't do anything about it) and tell me if i'm just the unluckiest person in the world and got the only note 3 that doesn't work or is the note 3 just plain bullcrap that just has a big screen to show off and then procceeds to being more crap than a ford pinto..
TL;DR At this point i wouldn't recommend ANYONE buy the note 3 because if this is how the phone works, you're better off buying any other device (Prefferably nexus 5) than this **** right here.
(Right now i can't upload screens of stats because the stats screen was reset for some reason and even though it's showing me 1 hour of usage, when i go into screen settings it shows me just 16 mins wich is totaly untrue since 1 let alone 2 two and a half men episodes last 20 mins.. Will upload later when i finish banging my head on the wall and eating my own hand.)

I am sorry about your experience with the note 3. I can see your frustration. Have you tried looking in the Note 3 threads for similar battery issues. If you tell me the type of Note 3 (carrier) I can better help you like give you the correct thread to go to.
