[Resolved] Dual Core Phone - General Questions and Answers

I currently have a samsung epic 4g that I bought on the release day. Sprint has agreed to let me out of my contract because when I purchased the phone multiple representatives promised me that froyo was a month away, two months at the most. I was hoping to switch to a new dual core phone and was wondering if there were and credible rumors as to what and when the first would be released. Has anyone heard anything? I tried googling but didn't see anything that seemed credible.

Also, any guesses as to which of the announced dual core phone will get support from cyanogenmod? Is on processor architecture more likely than another?

Virgin mobile and their Instinct.

So,this is my first post. Been lurking quite a bit though. Not sure if this is the best place for this topic, but I do have a question.
Virgin Mobiles Samsung Instinct says it runs Android 2.2 but flash 10.1 is not available for it, as in it does not show up in the app store. I'm new to the whole Droid world and was wondering if it was Virgin who disabled flash on the device, or if anything can be done to bypass it.
I've searched quite a bit around xda. And Google and could not find any info.
Thanks!

It's actually the Samsung Intercept. IMO don't pick it up; It's garbage. My 3 sisters have the Sprint version and I had it for a week before switching to the Evo back in August. It's sluggish as hell. Definitely get the LG Optimus V. It's MILES better than the Intercept in every single way.
So the intercept in general wont have flash 10.1 support? Also, the optimus v only has a 600mhz cpu, compared to the 800mhz of the intercept. This phone isn't for me a friend recently got one. I got a t-mo defy and I love it

Yeah but the 800 MHz on the Intercept feels like 500 MHz. Trust me, I have 3 of them in my house. The build quality is absolute crap. The Optimus V is A LOT better.

[Q] any one else heard of the HTC Superphone?

I dropped by my local att stores to see if they had heard anything about the inspire HD or the holiday. They told me they usually get email updates and such and haven't heard anything about them.
Though both stores told me they recently got an email about an upcoming HTC phone code named "super phone." I think its kind of a gay name; never the less, I couldn't find any leaked info on it.
Just though I would see if anyone else as heard about it or has found any information.
Maybe they are referring to the Sensation?

I doubt it since it is supposed to be released on ATT.

I don't think that is what they are talking about. I think that "superpower" they are talking about is in fact the Holiday, under the official name the Inspire HD.

That is what I am thinking as well. Unless they are pushing out a quad core (I highly doubt it since tablets are supposedly going quad core sometime next year), it wouldn't make sense to push two dual core phones out right about the same time.
Though they had no idea what the holiday or inspire hd was, but then again "most" sales rep's don't have any idea what they are talking about..

I agree entirely. Sales reps are generally kept out of the loop on new phones until release is emminent. I don't think quad cores will be ready until November or December, at the earliest, as that is when we see Ice Cream Sandwich start to roll out. Seeing as how ICS will blend gingerbread and honeycomb into one unified Android OS.

This actually wouldn't surprise me, seeing as the Inspire was pretty much a rebranded dhd.
But it would be nice to have a completely new offering, instead of a rehash.

Should I? Should I not? Should I?

Hi,
HTC have released some awesome phones like the One X and my god it is fantastic, but the question is, shall I sell my Galaxy Nexus for the HTC?
The good points from the nexus are that I would be that I would be supporting to the next Android with no worry.
But the HTC would be more than capable for running the next Android version as its hardware is far better. Also I like the 1.5GHz Quad Core processor with nvidia tegra. But the updates that I would get will be later than the Nexus and also HTC are a pain to root with the boot loader and EXT partitions
What should I do?
Thanks Guys

The question isn't whether it's capable, but when the manufacturer releases the update. Currently, none of them have yet released a Gingerbread -> ICS update, and it's already been 5 months.

I would wait for people to test it first...I am a bit worried with the battery stamina from One X

With the Nexus, you do not have to wait to constructor update, you will always get the last Android's version.
But HTC phones are more powerfull and XDA community will let you have the new Android OS
Cheers people. Ill get the HTC

After the radio and GPS problems with this phone (and apparently with the Fascinate) I will probably not buy a Samsung again. Either moto or HTC, and especially moto if they have something like the razr maxx (samoled and a massive battery) by the time I upgrade in 1.5 years.

Afaik Intel will be behind on the mobile processors for a while because they are just entering... But it will be interesting to see how x86 fares against arm. Who knows maybe they will be better come upgrade time.

re
either the snap dual core or the quad core.. either way it will be gobs better than the Charge.
The frustrations this phone and the Fascinate have caused, I look forward to using a phone from another manufacturer.
Supposedly HTC is coming out with a Note competitor this summer.
I'm actually quite happy how my phone has performed. I haven't had any issues besides a couple of force quits from some apps. They just had bugs in them though. I've had my phone for 7 months and I've been quite happy. Got it right around the Gingy update. I guess I would upgrade if a decent phone came out that had all of the bells and whistles.
The ReZound has almost everything but it's missing a few odds and ends. Still an awesome phone. I find myself playing with my wife's ReZound from time to time. The iPhone 5 almost sounds promising, but I want to see what is going to compete with it once it comes out. I guarantee something awesome is going to blow the iPhone out of the water. Waiting...

Word is that Samsung's quad core exynos is incompatible with US LTE frequencies because they don't make it in that specification or something, which is why the US version will have the s4 like the one x on at&t.

Gay. Why is it the states get the ****ty end of the stick when it comes to android phones? Phones have to be modified to come to the states and then the same phone that released in europe, korea, and china differs from what we get here.

Maybe because they aren't US based companies? Motorola is, and I am pretty sure the US moto phones are released before their international equivalents. Also, US carriers run on different frequencies from everyone else.
I am pretty excited for it. I am waiting to use it hands on before I make the dive. My plan just went up a few days ago so I am waiting to test this before upgrading if it comes to Verizon.

Wrong. It will have lte but not quad core.

What phone are you guys picking up after the G2x?

I'm thinking about getting a new phone soon... I wanted to pick up the HTC One X but reading about so many faulty devices over on the forums I'm kinda hesitant now. Still wondering whether or not I should make the plunge; on the other hand the 4S looks pretty interesting as well so that's also an option. So does the Xperia Arc S.
I need to get the phone before Julyish since I'm going overseas to study.
I don't see the newer phones (even One X, Galaxy S3) being much better than the G2x already. Sure they have ICS, but all the apps I run are fine on GB. Plus the extra cost to upgrade vs the ~$200 out-of-contract price of G2x on $30/mo plan doesn't justify it.
With all pricing aside, what's in ur opinion the best phone on the market right now?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA
I wana trade my g2x for a nexus s. Or sell and buy a sensation. Won't get a new phone cuz its first new Gen phone. So wait for the better improvement phones

S3 only thing that catches my eye now, waiting until the next nexus line looks, and if LG follows through ill upgrade and sell the phone, if not then I'll keep it is a backup and put the mt3g in my antique case with my g1

Galaxy Note for T-Mobile, Galaxy S 3 for T-Mobile, Nexus Tablet.
That is what catches my eyes but in reality, my G2X will do just well for like 4 years more just as my Etched Nexus one does. My G1 is just too slow now.
Sensation rocks because the developer support is unparalleled. But the S3 is fantastic, and if you want a big screen the Note is excellent. And the One X, while it does have a few kinks in terms ram management, its arguably the best phone out there. Tried it in the store and it is unreal fast

Screw the carriers and their neutered phones. Sgs3 is getting a dual core across the board in the US. From now on, I'm only buying direct from Google and the carriers can take their contracts and shove them... if you know what I mean. I'm waiting for the next nexus, which should be available to buy by Thanksgiving.

I was going to get the s3 untill they took the quad core out of it.
I didn't really want to wait for the next big device to come out, so I just got a Galaxy Nexus. I really couldn't be happier. I still have my G2x to test some ROMs on and as to use as a backup phone.

Look at the post for the s3 in the general section, and then look at the comparison for the new krait CPU that will be in the sgs3, yes it is a bummer that its only a dual core but how much utilization will a quad be used? With the research I've done I'm more then happy with what the stateside sgs3 has to offer just have to decide other things my previous post stated.
And don't worry my mt3g isn't going anywhere like my g1 its safe and sound lol.

If I stick with android I won't buy another non Nexus phone. If the manufacture updates the phone any it won't be updated for long and in most cases 3 months later there will be a slightly refreshed version that comes along and goodbye support for the phone you got. I had a Samsung Vibrant well you know that support died when the Galaxy S 4G came out You all know the support on the G2X and I also have a mytouch 4G which is running 2.3.4 just like my G2X which I also don't see it getting updated either to ICS.
As long as I know the phone will have xda support and Dec community support from the manufacturer I'll get it. Like the sensation that thing is fully supported, the HTC Vivid that's on at&t is extremely supported, sh¡+ even the G1 is lol....

I jumped ship to the HTC One S. Besides the pentile screen it can hold its own against the One X, if not beat it at benchmarks and in my opinion just as good as anything Samsung is releasing. I love the overall build quality and feel of the One S and the 16gb storage is more than enough for me. I tried to love my G2x, I was even convinced that it was the best phone out there but the software/hardware issues finally got to me.
