What phone are you guys picking up after the G2x? - T-Mobile LG G2x

I'm thinking about getting a new phone soon... I wanted to pick up the HTC One X but reading about so many faulty devices over on the forums I'm kinda hesitant now. Still wondering whether or not I should make the plunge; on the other hand the 4S looks pretty interesting as well so that's also an option. So does the Xperia Arc S.
I need to get the phone before Julyish since I'm going overseas to study.

I don't see the newer phones (even One X, Galaxy S3) being much better than the G2x already. Sure they have ICS, but all the apps I run are fine on GB. Plus the extra cost to upgrade vs the ~$200 out-of-contract price of G2x on $30/mo plan doesn't justify it.

With all pricing aside, what's in ur opinion the best phone on the market right now?

I wana trade my g2x for a nexus s. Or sell and buy a sensation. Won't get a new phone cuz its first new Gen phone. So wait for the better improvement phones

S3 only thing that catches my eye now, waiting until the next nexus line looks, and if LG follows through ill upgrade and sell the phone, if not then I'll keep it is a backup and put the mt3g in my antique case with my g1

Galaxy Note for T-Mobile, Galaxy S 3 for T-Mobile, Nexus Tablet.
That is what catches my eyes but in reality, my G2X will do just well for like 4 years more just as my Etched Nexus one does. My G1 is just too slow now.

Sensation rocks because the developer support is unparalleled. But the S3 is fantastic, and if you want a big screen the Note is excellent. And the One X, while it does have a few kinks in terms ram management, its arguably the best phone out there. Tried it in the store and it is unreal fast

Screw the carriers and their neutered phones. Sgs3 is getting a dual core across the board in the US. From now on, I'm only buying direct from Google and the carriers can take their contracts and shove them... if you know what I mean. I'm waiting for the next nexus, which should be available to buy by Thanksgiving.
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk 2

I was going to get the s3 untill they took the quad core out of it.

I didn't really want to wait for the next big device to come out, so I just got a Galaxy Nexus. I really couldn't be happier. I still have my G2x to test some ROMs on and as to use as a backup phone.

.....Iphone

Look at the post for the s3 in the general section, and then look at the comparison for the new krait CPU that will be in the sgs3, yes it is a bummer that its only a dual core but how much utilization will a quad be used? With the research I've done I'm more then happy with what the stateside sgs3 has to offer just have to decide other things my previous post stated.
And don't worry my mt3g isn't going anywhere like my g1 its safe and sound lol.

I will definitely wait until November for the new Nexus or Nexi, (hopefully the rumors are true and 5 are launched).

Hopefully no knew phones come out at all, that way I don't feel like I'm behind, and I'm very competitive and I always want the best and the greatest.

Sent From My Handheld Portal Device

If I stick with android I won't buy another non Nexus phone. If the manufacture updates the phone any it won't be updated for long and in most cases 3 months later there will be a slightly refreshed version that comes along and goodbye support for the phone you got. I had a Samsung Vibrant well you know that support died when the Galaxy S 4G came out You all know the support on the G2X and I also have a mytouch 4G which is running 2.3.4 just like my G2X which I also don't see it getting updated either to ICS.

As long as I know the phone will have xda support and Dec community support from the manufacturer I'll get it. Like the sensation that thing is fully supported, the HTC Vivid that's on at&t is extremely supported, sh¡+ even the G1 is lol....

I jumped ship to the HTC One S. Besides the pentile screen it can hold its own against the One X, if not beat it at benchmarks and in my opinion just as good as anything Samsung is releasing. I love the overall build quality and feel of the One S and the 16gb storage is more than enough for me. I tried to love my G2x, I was even convinced that it was the best phone out there but the software/hardware issues finally got to me.

But the evo hardware is going to be far slower in a year than nexus hardware. The Hummingbird processor we've seen in the SGS family is by far better than what the evo is sporting.
I don't have a single concern about my Nexus S (or Epic) not being adequate in a year or two.... I have used an evo now and I already feel that it's a slow clumsy device shoe-horned into a large enclosure to attract the "hummer crowd" ... bigger is better, am i right?
I just got rid of my epic for the ns4g (cracked screen on epic). My fiancée has the EVO and I have to say its a night and day comparison. Battery on the nexus is much better. Everything is smoother, and of course the display is 100x better. The EVO is a nice phone, but hardware wise its a bit out of date.

Torn, please help

I previously had a Vibrant, and loved it. Unfortunately I had a pretty intense water accident with it (sat in a jacuzzi for 10 min before realizing it was in my pocket). I am eligible for an upgrade and am torn on phones. I have to get a phone by the 25th, so I can't wait for the Hercules, so I'm wondering, should I even bother with the SGS4G? Or should I look elsewhere at the Sensation or G2X?

Yes. I think you should "bother" with this phone
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
By bother, I mean is it worth it to get, its almost six months old and I know that its not running on much different hardware than the vibrant (which is one reason I'm so attracted to it) but I want a beast, not a puppy when it compares to other phones in good old performance. Haha I realize now that "bother" wasn't quite the right word. I guess the better phrase is, is it worth it to get over the other new powerhouses?

Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I played with the sensation at the store and I liked it alot but I couldnt tell a whole lot of difference. But hardware wise the sensation has the high ground and it has sense 3.0 which I like alot. I,love my sgs4g but I personally like the sensation more. If only the new sgs4gs had 2.3.4 and tw4.5 or something new then it would be a beast.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
G2x is a solid phone, if it didnt have all the issues it would probably top the sensation. I like the g2x, stock android and very very fast! Sensation is an excellent phone as well, reminded me too much of my nexus one though.
You can't really go wrong with either one (IF you get a good g2x without problems) slim chance it seems to be. Battery life on g2x wasnt great barely 6-8 hours or so, sensation is alittle better though. Galaxy s 4g is nice, no issues running kg4 and probably getting around 2 days plus on one charge.
May want to consider a nexus s as well if you are looking at this phone. Personally I would try to hold off for another month or so, new nexus may roll out, the sgs2 or whatever itll be called? If you must choose now, pick up a cheap galaxy s4g off craigslist.
Sgs4g is great but either the sensation or g2x is def a better choice. Better dev communities and better phones period.. dual core ftw. Hercules is a phone to end all phones though.. why can't u wait??
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Not sure about G2x, but the SG4G is way better than Sensation 4G
Sensation got a good screen, but, the battery life sux. Also the call quality is not good as SG4G. Low ring ton volume is disappointing also. Audio quality (headphone) of SG4G (with voodoo) is 100 times better than Sensation.
Why not just get a phone like the Sensation on the 24th of this month and if the Hercules comes out before your 14 day return period then just swap it out for the Hercules.
But if you live in the wonderful state of California, then you get 30 days to swap it out.
You guys are all looking at software issues. Hardware wise, the other phones are newer...so of course the others will be faster, have more memory, etc. most, if not all, the issues will probably be addressed by the community. I have no complaints about this phone, but do your research on the development of the others.

Hercules has the qualcomm snapdragon dual core, when compared to the exynos on my sgs2, it feels like comparing a core i5 to a pentium dual core. But the screen size is a plus, but it will probably kill the battery really quickly.

Or you could just keep the Sensation. The Hercules is not that much of an upgrade anyways, unless you're dying for an AMOLED+ screen.
They have the same processor. Plus, if you're into modding, the Sensation is very close to a full working build of CM7. So you can only imagine how fast that will be. And it's a qHD screen while the Hercules is not.
I think I need to research the qHD screen. It didn't look very impressive to me, but I only used the phone for 2 minutes or so. The thing is, I LOVED the super AMOLED on the vibrant.

I would recommend that you go to a T-Mobile store and check them all out.
All three of them are different, out of the three though I preferred the G2x since I like it stock.
I had the SGS4G and although it was a good phone I think that the G2x is a better phone all around. Tetra Dual core, HD recording, unlocked bootloader, stock, great screen, hdmi port, and build quality.
Hope that helps

I would recommend that you go to a T-Mobile store as well. If you are not good with dealing things, do not go for the g2x. Don't get me wrong,I love my phone. if you cant wait for the hercules than get the g2x because its almost the same price as the sgs4g but daul core, since sensation sucks its only using one core but good gpu. G2X ftw because of performance and price.

I've read a lot of good things about the Mytouch 4g's, those could be worth looking into if you're just looking for a change.
I picked up my G2x from craigslist so I could replace the POS that was the mytouch slide 3g. So far I've been more than happy with the G2x and all the ROM's currently available for it. Personally I'll be hanging onto the G2x until either the Galaxy SIII or G4x comes out.
The sensation is also a good phone. Used to have it. I would go back if I coould. Really great phone

I'd say go with the Galaxy Nexus, the screen and Pure Google, plus the relatively cheap, no contract price made me bite the bullet.
About once per day or two there is an SGS2 for sale on Craigslist for $300 or $320. They go quick though, I've missed out on 2 of them so far. Not a bad upgrade for $100 out of pocket if you can get $200 for your G2X.
heck i got 2 g2x phones that i dont use anymore. 1 is still stock and the other is rooted w/ weapon 3.0... make me an offer.
I just went from the G2x to the galaxy s2 titanium and its pretty awesome. No more random shutdowns and supposedly it is getting a legit ICS update on the 14th
I decided to keep it, I guess I got lucky with mine because I never get random freezes or reboots..
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
You should sell it and upgrade to the Sensation. Tons of dev support, better processor, bigger screen, fully functional ICS. Or like another person said, shell out a bit more for a GNex. It would certainly be a smart move to head to a better phone while yours still has value.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA
you cant go wrong with the galaxy nexus as it has a ton of developer support right now, as it is pure google and running the latest software natively.
with that being said, the htc sensation also has tremendous dev support with many different kinds of roms and kernels optimized for it.
i would also suggest the one s by htc, since it is a quality phone with high-end hardware and shouldnt be too hard to mod once it gains some steam.
I really wouldn't fork out the money for the Galaxy Nexus. I would prefer the S2 over the galaxy nexus with 16GB internal AND you can use an SD card. GNex you're stuck at 16. I would definitely recommend the Sensation or Amaze 4G build quality is amazing and dev support will certainly be there.
I'm looking to get an S2, Amaze or Sensation depending on how much funds I have.
You can get an sensation forb230-300. Amaze and s2 for 300-400

Sensation...upgrade? Please child. Anywho I would go for either sII nexus maybe even the one s(as long as it doesn't use nvidia chip)
I was considering the Sensation at one point, but I kept hearing things plaguing the device like a touchscreen that stops working.
Can't have a phone that doesn't work.
the sensation is an AMAZING device.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA
Sensation is great but it's really not a huge step up over the G2X. If you want a real step up you will want the SII or GNex or Amaze4G....I would pass on the One S unless you really want the camera.

Where to next?

I don't have an upgrade yet, but as the date draws nearer (December) I really start looking at what is coming out between now and then, and I must say I'm not feeling particularly confident about any given upgrade path.
If it's true the next Nexus will be Nexus Optimus based off the Optimus G I'd probably consider the Optimus G since having identical hardware to the galaxy S worked many wonders for the captivate.
Outside of that, the Xperia Tl looks like a pretty great device if it gets enough support to see decent long-lived dev support.
So, what upcoming phone do you think will have the best dev support? I would really like to keep getting updates long after the manufacturer officially drops support.. and Even if it's only 400$, I probably will skip the nexus since 16 gigs isn't enough without expandable memory storage..
Same. I also have an upgrade due this December and the new phones on at&t aren't interesting. I would've gone to the one x but their at&t version has ran into a wall because of a recent update that locked the boot loaders down, hard. (At&t officially does not support unlocked boot loaders for it). So, the Cappy is still moving forward

I'm cautiously optimistic about both the Xperia TL and the Optimus G.
I know that back mfr support can ruin otherwise great phones.. both in terms of upgrades and devs ability to make custom roms.. So I'll be looking anxiously at the LG Optimus. If the One x+ keeps the 64 gb of storage or even just 32gb of storage I would seriously consider it too assuming the dev support was adequate.

I am really worried the Note 2 will be far to big for my taste. The 4.7" phones already seem *huge* to have to stick in my pocket. Aside from that I'd be worried about the quad core exynos processsors which I hear make it hard to cook up custom Roms.

I want a decent camera but, honestly my absolute biggest concern is long term dev support. I wish there was an environment more "open" to dev with carriers. I understand they don't want to have to deal with people bricking their phones.. At the same time "voided warranty" scares off most people I talk to about custom roms in the first place.. So I don't think they are really gaining anything by locking down phones.. People either care about the warranty or they don't.

Well I'm guessing it's because carriers want you to buy a new phone for every upgrade date to make $$$ so they lock boot loaders (of course, that assumption could be false). For long term development support I will buy an international Samsung galaxy s_ device or a nexus.

Unfortunately, I'm kinda tired of the SAMOLED displays.
As far as why they do it, forcing customers to buy new phones is a pretty horrible reason TBH.
There are far too many people who are angry at manufacturers for failing to update fast enough. When you remove their ability to install their own update, you're just giving them a reason to find another product.

Me too, which is why I'm going to the One X or Nexus 4. I have a Nexus 7 and support is good. But I don't think any phone out there will be better than my captivate, development wise.

Haha, yup that's a good point. I'm glad that the cappy was my first android device and is/was filled with plenty of developers to support it. I'm kind of sad to leave it this December, TBH.
What do you think of the SGS3?

I left my Cappy last October after the USB port died and I got tired of switching out batteries to use it for the SGS II. My SGS II just had an unfortunate accident involving water, so I pulled out my trusty Cappy which I could not part with since it was my 1st Android device. Thank god for all of the awesome development that has and continues to unfold for this device. I am on Jelly Bean 4.1.2 and its like I never left. I do not know how much longer I am going to use it (Nexus 4 looks tempting), but it continues to be an amazing phone that I will continue to go back to whenever other phones fail on me.
Kind of off topic but I really wanted to say how much of an awesome phone this is. Props to all of you who kept it for a full two years! :good:

Nexus 4 price is hard to resist, lack of storage and lte is unfortunate but can't beat 350 for a top of the line device. And it's a nexus.
I'd consider the nexus 4 if I didn't have the nexus 7 already
Might as well go with the school of fish since the galaxy s 3 is $99 now at select stores. Cant beat that price with all the features it has. But you gotta admit the HTC one x is a nice looking phone, and dare I say, and to which nobody has mentioned yet, the Lumia 920 (in red) *gasp*

One thing im wondering as I look at the nexus 4 is that there are 3 buttons back, home and multi task (which is long press home for us) one of the things i love is the dedicated options or settings key, anyone have any experience moving to no options button? One (of many) things that bother me when im using an iPhone is the stupid steps you have to take to change app settings.
I'm reconsidering this phone for that reason,(although im sure XDA can give me options to remedy this issue) am i the only one who thinks a dedicated multitasking button is a waste and long press home is a fine alternative to open up another shortcut option?

+1 here. Maybe a custom ROM for the Nexus will give you the ability to do that.

Getting a Nexus is your only safe bet for long term dev support and you don't have to deal with locked bootloader and losing your warranty by unlocking it (you have no choice with Sony and HTC, because you enter your IMEI to unlock it which void your warranty, unless you do some third party unlocking method). Also for the price of the Nexus 4 and being a Nexus device, I don't see why one would get the Optimus G with locked bootloader and probably poor support, if only for the 32gb storage which is not worth it compared to all the things the Nexus offer (ie, Google updates, easy to flash, best dev support and highesst quality rom, pentaband, elitist Nexus fanboys community).

Various CyanogenMod and AOKP-based rom is capable of customizing the on screen NavBar, including for the Captivate. Try AOKP rom and look for the Navigation bar settings.

Custom ROMs allow you to change all sorts of things about the navigation bar. You can have more buttons, different buttons, even shortcuts/widgets.
Also, I can say from experience that the three button setup is better than the four button setup.
