Before I start, yes I did look around, and the best I found were unanswered questions, but if someone can link me to some answers I would much appreciate it.
Anyway my questions mostly deal with unlocking. Now I've heard about ChevronWP7, but, as far as I can tell, it's only for a jailbreak type of 'unlock' rather than the traditional carrier unlocking, is that correct?
If so, is there a free way to unlock phones to use on different carriers?
Also, if a phone is already carrier unlocked, will the lock return when syncing with a computer?
Finally, if I were to get a phone just for development, would I need to use it as a phone at all (meaning have a SIM card inserted), or could I just treat it like an iPhone's iPod Touch?
Thanks in advanced
ChevronWP7 unlocks a phone, so you can install applications from other sources than marketplace. For example, develop your own application, and install it on phone.
Official way: Pay 99$ for MS, to be able to do that.

Thanks, that's what I figured. But as a student, I get it free anyway. Do you know the answers to my other questions?
Also, if I were to get an HD2 and install Windows Phone 7 on that, would I be able to use the marketplace and develop applications on that?
To develop apps you dont need the phone just the SDK and the emulator.

I know, I actually have a few apps up already. But the emulator only goes so far, you don't get to see how your apps look in the marketplace and you don't get to try out competing apps. The main reason I want a device now is because I'm working on a game and the emulator doesn't have multi-touch capabilities and in general it can be sluggish

If you're saying the game performs sluggishly in the emulator, it's much more likely that you have a memory leak or performance problem with your game, assuming your computer isn't slow.
If you want the apps on the phone you're going to either need to use ChevronWP7 (which will stop working after this next patch although apparently Microsoft will release or allow some sort of homerbrew solution after that patch) or get the dev unlock. Unfortunately, if you're in the App Hub through DreamSpark, they don't check your ID (which is required to get an unlock) until you try to submit your first app. This means you either have to upload a dummy app (which counts against your 5 free submissions) or you have to build an app entirely based on the emulator.
In terms of carrier unlock, I don't believe there is a free solution, but I'm entirely unsure about that.

It runs okay, but not as smooth as when I run it natively in Windows. This one is just a board game, I ran a more complex game I was working on in the past and it also ran fullspeed in Windows but was quite sluggish in the emulator. I know there are differences in the way the platforms handle memory, but I'm a pretty careful coder, I'm pretty sure it's more to do with the fact that the whole Windows Phone 7 dev kit is still quite new.
Anyway, I'm still thinking of going with the HD2 option. Would I be able to register that as a dev phone? If not how about ChevronWP7?
i think it was suggested earlier but you register your windows live account as a dev account (to activiate requires you to submit an app). once that's done, the phone automatically unlocks and works as a dev phone. i still don't agree on using HD2 as the basis of your dev phone, but i understand your lack of finances.

I like the idea of getting an HD2 just because of it's versatility, I could put Android on it if I wanted to try developing for that platform, the only thing stopping me is the fact that WP7 for HD2 will probably hit a snag when 7.1 comes out and I'd be stuck on the emulator again.
Actually I could get a proper Windows Phone, I just don't like paying for data. I just want to run it on WiFi and use it like an iPod touch. That's why I wanted to know if the device works fine without a SIM card or will it not let you do anything until you insert one? Surely owners of a device could answer this question.

Out of curiosity, what phones are you guys using?
Edit: Doh, just saw the Venue in your signature. Has T-Mobile ever bothered you about not having data?
Not once, they can't tell... I have an HD7, a venue pro, 2 focus' one quantum, and one surround. I'm a major fan

FAQ
Q: What is all this about hacking the PS3?
A: A few weeks ago, someone released a USB tool that allows you to switch any PS3 into "dev" or "debug" mode. The long and short of this means that the PS3 has finally been hacked and homebrew is a real possibility. After a lot of clever reverse engineering, the hack was documented and distributed under the name "PS3Groove". Some clever people ported that code so that other USB devices could be used for this purpose. It just so happens that your smartphone is also a USB device and this was a project to port THAT code so that your Android smartphone could be used to hack your PS3.
Q: Cool! Where do I start?
A: Slow down there, cowboy. This is pretty technical stuff, if you've come here from another forum, or are unfamilliar with terms like "recovery", "flashing", "rooting" and such, take a deep breath and look around the forums for more information, as any mistakes could brick your phone.
First, you'll need to know if your device is compatible. There is a list of android devices maintained here: http://psfreedom.com/wiki/index.php?...atibility_list
This will tell you if your device is supported, as well as point you to where to go if it is.
Q: Ok, so I have a supported device, now what?
A: Just owning the device isn't enough. You'll need to root it to enable you to install custom ROMs. Once you're confident about installing custom ROMs, you're ready to rock and roll! Now, this IS the Desire dev forum, so from here on I'll assume you have a HTC desire, rooted and ready to go. If you have a different device, refer to the link above, or look on your device's own forum.
Q: What ROMs are compatible with this?
A: If you thought that you might need a specific ROM - you'd be right! The whole hack revolves around the kernel that's loaded into the ROM. Essentially, this means that not all ROMs will be able to do this. Right now, if you're looking for an easy solution, install OpenDesire. CyanogenMOD may well work, too, as well as ROMs based off either of those, but no guarantees or promises are made.
Q: What about Sense ROMs?
A: Unfortunately, this isn't feasible. HTC Have yet to release the source code for Sense 2.2, which means we can't port this into it. So if you have a ROM that you like running sense, you'll have to make a choice - Sense, or PS3 hacking? There's no middle ground with this. Alternatively, you can just nandroid between the two ROMs, however you'll soon see how tedious this can get =P
Q: Ok I've got Open Desire installed, now what?
A: Opendesire by itself is just a damn good ROM, not a lean, mean, PS3-hacking machine, so you'll need to add something else. The details are kept here, but essentially there are two update zip files. One will "enable" the PS3 hack and one will "disable" it. You flash those files directly over the ROM itself, using your favourite recovery.
Q: BDMV or Homebrew?
A: In order to keep PSgroove away from Sony's legal team, they released it without the ability to play backup PS3 games, only PS3 homebrew (to which there is currently very little, but stay tuned!), they did this by disabling BDMV. So there are TWO "enable" files. One is "Homebrew", which is a direct port of the PSGroove code and will not play backup games and the other is "BDMV", which will play both PS3 homebrew AND backups.
Q: Did you say BACKUPS?!
A: Yer darn tootin' I did! Legal backups, of course. One of the few pieces of homebrew available is the Backup Manager. This is a simple application that will let you backup a GAME THAT YOU OWN onto an internal or external USB hard drive, then play it without the disk. You'll still need a disk in the drive, but any PS3 game will work.
Q: Where do I get Backup Manager?
A: Backup manager is built with the PS3 SDK, which means it's technically illegal software, so you wont find it on this site, but it really isn't hard to find with a bit of googling. Whatever you do, don't ask for it here!
Q: Hey guess what, I found a copy of backup manager, how do I use it?
A: Ok, so before you start, do yourself a checklist:
You'll need -
Rooted phone,
running a ROM with the PS3groove code loaded onto it (e.g. open desire with klutsh's enable zip flashed on top of it),
USB cable plugged into your PS3 going to the phone.
Phone switched on and on the home screen.
A PS3 running Firmware 3.41 (support for earlier Firmwares will come later, but don't ask when).
Make sure there's no disk in the drive.
Step 1: POWER OFF your PS3 COMPLETELY. This means flipping the switch off at the back of it (if it's a PHAT PS3) or UNPLUGGING it if it's a SLIM PS3.
Step 2: Switch it back on and IMMEDIATELY press the "disk eject button". When I say immediately, I mean it - you've got 0.2s to press it!
you'll notice your PS3 takes longer to boot, a few extra seconds. Once it has booted, you'll notice under GAME, you'll have a couple of extra options.
Step 3: Plug in your USB drive with manager.pkg on it, then select "* Install Package File". Select manager.pkg and it'll install, giving you a new Icon.
Step 4: Backup manager is now installed. Run it and put a disk in the drive. You'll see it appear in the list and it'll give you an option to back it up. It'll first ask if you want the external drive, then it'll ask if you want to install it to the Internal drive. More on that later.
Now, go make yourself a cup of tea. In fact, make several, Blu-ray disks are frickin' huge and take time to backup.
...................
Ok, so the game is backed up. Go ahead and put it back in it's box, where it'll be safe from harm. Now, get yourself ANOTHER PS3 game, any game at all and put it in the PS3. In backup manager, you'll see both your disk game and the backed up game. Select the backup game and press "X".
You'll now be kicked back to the XMB. But look at the disk icon. It should be showing you the game you backed up, NOT the game in your drive. You'll need a legit PS3 game in your drive for this to work, you'll also need to make sure you're running BDMV enable, or it wont work (it'll still show you the game in the drive).
Q: Sounds great! But what's the catch?
A: Actually, there are several. For one, the external hard drive must be FAT32, or it wont be detected by the PS3.
Because of this, any games that have files greater than 4Gb wont work (for example, God of War III), you'll need to install it onto the INTERNAL drive.
Even then, some games may not work at all. Luckily, there are a few lists showing which games work, which don't and which only work on the internal drive.
Oh and some games require you to delete all of their savegame data before they'll load. Sorry.
Furthermore, things like DLC, patches, etc. tend to not work, but this is very early days at the moment, so sit tight!
Q: What's this I hear about "stealth" backups?
A: Quite simply, everyone is expecting Sony to want to protect their precious PS3, which will likely come in the form of a banwave for anyone doing this. Make no mistake, do not assume for a second that you wont get banned for doing this. Still, some people believe that they might be safer if they use a "stealth" Backup Manager. This is simply a version of Backup Manager that tries to make it look like you're playing a different game, like MW2. So far, despite rumours to the contrary, Sony hasn't banned anyone yet, so nobody knows just how detectable it all is.
I'm hoping something comes of this, but I wouldn't get TOO excited, the developer of this is only 15 and while I'm sure he's quite talented, he's still quite young so it could take him a while, assuming it's possible at all.
Still, I like the guy, he makes no promises, doesn't pretend to be anything he isn't and makes it quite clear what he is and isn't capable of. He's essentially said "I'll give it a shot!" and that's good enough for me.
Sorry for the double post, but there's an update on this:

This guy is working on an Android port and, from what he's posted, he's not far off.
I sent the kid a donation, looks liek he already has the PSGroove part of the app working.

I'm merely trying to point out that at 15, even if he's extremely talented, he's still quite inexperienced. From reading his twitter, he doesn't pretend otherwise. I completely support the guy and wish him well and by no means want to make it sound like he's a n00b or anything, I'm simply saying that he's young is all.

It's not the android phone that's being jailbroken, it's the Playstation 3 being jailbroken through the use of an Android phone.

I believe this is actually a software clone of the PSjailbreak exploit which has been re-engineered to be run off of our Android devices. I.E., Put your Android phone in "PSjailbreak Mode" and then connect to PS3, it would then perform the same functionality that having the actual USB device/dongle would provide.
A marvell idea and one that I would love to try out once the tool reaches a stable version. I'm sure over the next week or so we'll see who can actually port it and who is just 'fronting'.
I'll be subscribing to this thread for sure!
**EDIT** Seems neo beat me to the answer!
I've uploaded the binary files used on the N900 so we can get to work on the Android port.
It comprises of a kernel module and two shell scripts.
If what the other guy who's doing the android port says is true, you don't need a special kernel or anything to do this, just root access. Who knows how true that is, though.
Would be nice to see some collaboration from some devs here who know what they're doing lol
if this happens then its gonna be awesome!!
Finally region free BR!!
Netzke is obviously a scammer looking for a quick buck... he mentions in every post that 15$ will get beta access.
Yes, it looks like scam at mee too.
Anyway, looking forward to get the N900 version ported to Android (someone on PSX Scene said we just need to compile the source for the kernel of our phone)
It does appear to be all that's needed. It's a portable kernel module according to the dev. He's releasing the source later today so we wait in earnest.
Make that source release tomorrow, depending on time zone.
Was pushed on line just before he went to bed.
As for netkaz, he's scamming, first claim was donations for a server.
I offered up a full server for free for the life of the project, no response, now he's going to start on a iPhone port after he can afford a iPhone.
eavpsp, well his own private chat room was leaked, he was getting other dev's to do all the work then planned to put his name to it.
The dev that is showing most promise at the minute is qberty1337
But as already said, once the n900 kernel module source is out it should not take too long.
The PSP porting effort is a farce to be honest. We just need that N900 source code and we can get going.

I found that my device wasn't being recognised as being developer unlocked, so I couldn't run or deploy any side loaded apps.
I then ran the developer unlocker tool (the real one) and it said I was already unlocked and since then I've been able to side load.
Some apps just won't work now though. The restrictions have been tightened and any app using Interop services won't work.

Just wondering if anyone ran into this issue. I've been playing bug village for a little while now, Avoiding paying for coins, I would set a few tasks a day for the bugs and check back to make sure they are fed.
For a few days in the game, I started getting black screens but, it came back and worked. Yesterday, it just stop totaly working, it loads to a black screen then exits. I can not enter the game any more and I am afraid of losing my place at level 15.
Does anyone know a fix for this or a way I can really backup this game, so I can uninstall it and not lose my place ???
Thanks for any advice !!!

Yes, my phone is interop-unlocked. I am not fully unlocked due to having a CDMA based phone (no one really lets us play) and no one supports a full unlock on my phone
There are two apps you can try: TouchXplorer (on http://touchxperience.com) and HtcRoot Webserver (see my sig). Both can access the filesystem of HTC phones and let you move or back up files (backup is a little tricky with TouchXplorer but it can be done). You can also try using DiagProvXML if you know the path to the data you want to move/copy/whatever (it'll be under \Applications\Data\<GUID_OF_APP>\Data\IsolatedStore)
These apps use a variety of different hacks to access or modify the filesystem (provxml is currently write-only). Without knowing your firmware version, I can't tell you which ones will or will not work. Give it a shot, though...

Thanks for your help. TouchXplorer stopped working after Mango, it stopped working on Interop unlocked but, still works on Fully unlocked devices, as far as I know. I have it installed, it loads but, does not do anything beyond that, the Dev closed the discussion due to it not working any more.
I looked over your Webserver, I'm not a programmer so it's out of my skilset to make it into a installable file.
and sad to say, with 8107 firmware Connection Setup no longer works (error "Carrier not in Database"), so proXML is out too...
I am running stock Firmware, 2305.13.20110.605

Look on the webserver thread, not the HtcRoot thread (there's a precompiled XAP on there too, but it's just a test app; doesn't *do* anything except check compatibility).
I've pretty much outlined all the viable options for you already. If none of them work, then... hope there's a fix released soon, or a better backup option? I don't know, I've never played the game, it sounds awfully Farmville-esque, so maybe waiting that long isn't an option...

@DavidinCT: Off-topic, but there's a version of the WebServer (which my project was actually built on) that does not use HtcRoot or even interop-unlock. Aside from its own data folder though, the only place it can access is read-only for \Windows.

Interesting, I'll have to check it for the coolness factor. It does not help on my quest tho
On the subject of Bug Village, I am not the only one with this issue, if you look over the reviews in the marketplace, there is ton more with the same issue. I guess I can hold tight for an update, I guess...
Yeah, if it's a common issue, there are good odds the developer will fix it. If they don't, they won't get any more money from it...
I Jailbroke my iPhone, and have Rooted all my Android devices, which have clear benefits. Being that WP7's market is so bare, and the OS has virtually NO customization, what are the advantages to hacking WP7? I don't see any ROMS in the Forum, so how does hacking it improve it?
From the point of view of someone that's only recently 'jailbroken' using WindowBreak, I've found that sideloading a lot of random apps to my WP7 has helped me do things I couldn't before - such as using the LED as a flashlight on my Omnia 7
It's the little things...
Mine is only developer unlocked but even with that and no interopt, battery status app rocks
in other words you can download homebrew apps and sideload them. Some developers here let you try them out and comment before they hit the marketplace.
Also if you have a gen 1 inter-opt unlocked you can access the registry and do all kinds of cool things like unlock internet sharing, and run file exploring tools and such.
With the iphone, what advantages did you get? it's also a pretty closed system. With android i understand. Some phones needed custom romms to get rid of the carrier crap to make them work faster. In windows phone all carrier apps can be uninstalled. Took me 1 minute to remove all but the one that shows my data usage as i wanted to keep that one.
Without jailbreaking, we can also use cab sender to get microsoft upgrades without waiting on our carrier. We don't have to be unlocked for that. So instead of getting a put together might work or not version of ICS because my carrier won't release it, we just download the cab file right off MS's servers and use a tool on here to install it.

iPhone is totally closed to. but the benefit of unlocking was the MASSIVE app store of polished apps. So once jailbroken, I was able to install hundreds of apps. But with WP7, its only Homebrew stuff to date right? I am not knocking it, just trying to see if there is a real advantage for me to unlock mine. Just a curiosity.

If you know what your doing and don't want to support developers - you can do the same with wp7 and it's 60,000 apps. Just gotta know where to go.
We however have way more security and 2nd gen has yet to be interop unlocked which would allow the above. Also all our apps are polished also. they have to make it past MS and their guidelines before they can hit the market.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all WP7, but isn't their a NES emulator on the store? LOL
Regardless, like he said you don't have to support devs, but seriously everytime you don't, baby Jesus cries. Remember that.
LOL, that NES emulator got accepted by MS? It was one of the first pieces of homebrew for WP7, initially it was rejected from the marketplace so the dev just posted a link to the XAP file. By the way, there totally are custom ROMs for WP7, but currently they're limited to HTC phones because those are the only ones that we've unlocked the bootloader on so far...
Advantages of basic dev unlock:
* Install some apps that add nice features (Battery Status, Screen Capture, Webserver, app folders, etc.)
* Ability to install apps that make certain changes to the phone (see the "OEM Marketplace XAPs" thread linked in my sig.)
* Ability to install homebrew or pre-release apps posted on forums like this.
Potentially, the ability to restore (it's write-only) data to your phone that was backed up from a prior one (see interop-unlock...)
Advantages of interop-unlock (dev-unlock plus an extra registry tweak, not available on all phones):
* Ability to install many more homebrew apps (the registy value that controls this, MaUnsignedApp, is also the one that controls interop-unlock).
* Ability to install apps that use drivers on the phone to do stuff normally not possible (ranging from flashlight control to modifyying parts of the system, such as the following...)
* On most phones, the ability to install registry editor apps and tweak a lot of system settings.
* Ability to install ProvXML processor apps, and make significant changes to your phone (like turning off the carrier check on th Internet Sharing feature).
* Ability to install configuration tweaking apps that can do things like full custom themes and modify all the system sounds.
* On some phones, ability to install filesystem browser/manager apps.
* On some phones, ability to "root" a phone (run arbitrary code with maximum permissions). For example, I'm the dev of the HtcRoot project.
* On some phones, granular data backup and restore (things like app and game data; could be restored on a dev-unlocked but interop-locked phone).
Advantages of unlocking the bootloader and installing a custom ROM (currently gen1.0 HTC only):
* Full unlock that turns off the policy restrictions on the phone, allowing any app to access the whole device.
* Full unlock allows running third-party EXE files, including both homebrew and some WinMo apps (Opera Mobile and Mini have both been done, for example).
* Install homebrew XAPs by opening them using the phone's browser or attached in email, without a PC (there are "Bazaar" apps that allow you to access WP7 homebrew apps directly on the phone this way).
* Support custom update CABs, so the ROM can be updated without re-flashing the phone (for things aside from official updates).
* Tweak some stuff that's normally locked in ROM, like the bootup screen.
* Theoretically, replace significant system components (such as modifying the phone's UI shell).
It all depends on what you want to do, and what phone you have. We (homebrew hackers and devs) are always looking to support more devices, and to gain more control over the device.
I have my device dev unlocked. I've only installed side loaded two applications so far, one being a beta for an upcoming Twitter client called Carbon and the other being a screen capturing app.
I love using the screen capture app, it's handy when doing a review of something. However, it currently can't capture screens of games, just normal apps. Other than that, I haven't seen a major benefit for anyone to really unlock their devices.

Megadrive AKA Genesis ? Who has a Good Sega Genesis emulator that works on WP7?
I know of for console emulators
VNES Light= Great NES emu
Sonic's Jewels= A good Sega Master System And game gear emulator(pre-sound works awsome).
I know of no other console ones that are any good.
Please let us know...
Basic unlocking is the best way to go, any device can get unlocked, and some basic things like battery tiles, etc, can be installed that aren't on the market. I'd at least do an unlock.

Sorry man, I was just phrasing it like that to prove a point - should have said I'd much prefer a dev to make a Megadrive emulator homebrew than get 100 paid for game apps for free - and before anyone says "that is piracy" I still own my Megadrive and over 50 games each of which I can legally create a backup of and use on an emulator so nyeahhh
Hello,
I have a TC55 from Motorola Solutions (i.e. the enterprise division that does not belong to Google). It is a rugged phone with a big battery (4400 mAh), but certainly not the sleekest design. Not sure if there is much interest in this kind of device, and I am certainly no developer - but in case anyone is investigating the TC55, here are two things I found so far:
It does not come with any Google apps: no Maps, no Gmail, no Play store and so on.
It is easily rooted with Framaroot using the Gandalf exploit.
(I cannot post this info into the Framaroot thread due to my low post count).
Anyway, maybe this helps someone. I will be happy to try to answer any questions about the TC55, but keep in mind I am no pro and I am not keen in messing around in its internals much more than I have done already.

I heard my company is planning to go with these soon for entry level supervisors such as myself. I'm trying to figure out exactly what it is. All the specs and brochures from Motorola keep calling it a mobile computer in a smartphone "form factor" but never actually call it a phone. I didn't see anything in any of the specs to lead me to believe for sure that it was a phone or if it was just an Android computer in a smartphone form factor.
Anyway, I just wanted to confirm, that, you're certain this is a phone, correct?
Thanks.

Yes, definitely. You can call and get called, and you can send and receive SMS. It also supports wired headsets, and it is supposed to work with Bluetooth headsets, though I do not have any to test.

Thanks for the info but it looks like mine is going to be crippled.
Sort of a let-down really. Yes, it "can" be a phone. Or without a sim card it can be a really powerful Android based mobile computer. That's what it is going to be for most of us. Only a few supervisors with area management approval are going to get units with the phone features working. Still cool. Just not as cool as I'd thought it was going to be.

I see, sorry to hear that. It sounds weird to me to do that, but then again I have no clue about this type of work.
Maybe the crippling could be worked around or undone by people with good Android knowledge - but I suppose it might not be the best idea to go against company policy.

I don't think they're doing anything all that special to cripple it. They just won't all have sim cards or a cell plan. Pretty much as simple as that.
I won't be doing anything to circumvent that though or rooting it or anything like that. It's not like it's a gift and it belongs to me or anything. After almost 22 years, I've kind of grown to like my job and getting a paycheck every two weeks.I'd kind of like to keep it for another 15 or 20 years. Who knows, maybe my manager will decide that I need cell service with mine.
I work for a large automaker in the U.S. We have over 2.8 million square feet under roof. Personally, I can be anywhere on in the plant, on the roof, in pits & sub-basements underneath or anywhere on or near the 50 acre plant site at any given time. A lot of what I need to do on a daily basis is through our intranet portal. They're putting in something like 500 new wi-fi repeaters/extenders all around the plant as well. They're purchasing these for over 300 first line supervisors at my site alone. I'm pretty sure they're doing this corporate-wide so I hate to think what they're spending on these things as a corporation. I'm sure it would bankrupt many small nations! In addition to giving us portal access away from the desk, these are meant to replace our aging industrial radio system. As expensive as these are, they're still much cheaper than $1.5 to $2k per person for a radio that has no other built-in functionality and these do seem pretty ruggedized.
Still a shame about the phone functionality though.

Can you see what browser it comes with? Can you install (untrusted) APKs directly without rooting it?
FYI, in case anyone's wondering, there is a version with Google apps on the way (if it isn't already orderable).

Browser is a standard one, which comes with other devices. Name is Browser.apk and version is 1.0.9
It's possible to install unsigned APK's without rooting.
google account
Hi,
I got stucked with trying to get google calendars from my google account to TC55.
I found one solution to setup google account as a corporate one, but it's not available anymore due to change in google policy.
I can setup google mail via email account, but that doesn't bring me my calendars to the device.
I tried to install gapps but without success.
Is there any other way?
Thanks.
Motorola work on google apps for TC55.There is in beta.

No idea, I haven't tried. As far as I understand gapps are usually installed via flashing a zip from recovery, and the stock recovery of the TC55 does not have that option, it only allows reflashing a whole image, if I understand it correctly. Either way, I have come to appreciate the open source alternatives and do not want to get Google on my phone, so I will not try, sorry.
However, going by this thread over at the Motorola support forum, it seems it won't take long until there is official gapps support:
https://developer.motorolasolutions.com/thread/4989
Motorola has now released a TC55-firmware with Google apps. Here are the release notes:
https://atgsupportcentral.motorolasolutions.com/content/emb/docs/ReleaseNotes/Release%20Notes%20-%20%20TC55_RevAPlus_GMS_01%2074G_v10.htm
According to the support email they sent me, to get the actual release you need to perform the following arcane ritual:
Resolution Type is : Software Download
Resolution Id is : 95562
Resolution Title is : TC55 Update Image v1.74 with GMS (Google Mobile Service) Release Note & Factory Reset & Enterprise Enabler package
restrictedSW :
T55N0JGMVRUEN17400.zip 321 MB TC55 OS Recovery Update package
T55N0JGMVAUEN17400.apf 321 MB TC55 OS update package file for deployment using MSP
If you require access to OS files for TC55 1.74 GMS then call the local Support Desk and provide following information:
a. Site ID
b. Serial #(s)
c. Phone #
d. Customer name (First and Last)
e. E-mail address

Don't ask me what the local support desk number is, or the site ID, or why they have to make this so complicated.
Hi Elanguescence,
I think I screwed up my tc55 by enabling the multiuser function without first creating the white list. Now all the users (with admin rights) does not have access to all the programs, including Applock Administrator and Multiuser administrator.
To cut things short, do you know of a way to reset the device? I don't mind setting it to factory default and start over. I've googled it and some said to launch Rapid Deployment and scan a barcode from there... but my Rapid Deployment just says "Service Not Ready, Please Wait" and get stuck there.
Any help appreciated. Thank you.
Any TC55 users here? Should be getting my unit w/ GMS soon... How do you guys like it?
Is the bootloader locked?

Hey!
I want to Buy one TC55 for me. Normally i hate Android and the Google stuff on the Phone but some Motorola Salesman told me there is a version with out.
Now i use an Sybian Device. That mean i am "offline" the hole time and when i need Internet the Phone connect the the Internet.
So how about that phone can i work "offline" to?
I will also use an VPN Tunnel to block on my backend all Connnection i dont want. Does all Data trough this VPN Tunnel ?
How about the Barcode Scanning does it work good?
I know for 2D i need to use the Cam but how works it when i am in some other Application?
Nobody?
Ok. I just bought a TC55 from a Friend and I was wondering if someone would post the update to get GSM and the Factory Reset packages. I went to the page and it requires all the information posted above before. Mine is rooted, but i am trying to install GAPS but the recovery is the basic and cannot. I manually installed Google Play and the Google Play Services but Google Play services keep crashing and the Play Store will not connect, any ideas ?
the are 2 versions one with google s... service and the other without.
So i belive you have the first?
(Can i ask you some question about that phone?)
