[Q] Wall paper is stretched and lacks crispness - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
trying to get this to be my wallpaper...
http://www.technama.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/002-abstract-002
I used chrome to phone to send it, then long pressed and set as wallpaper.
But it seems to be so stretched, and zoomed in and lacks any crispness.
Any idea why, or how i can go about sorting it?
Using launcherPro if this make any difference.
Thanks

It's the wrong dimensions unless you are using it as a static background that doesn't scroll.

is that set in the launcher pro settings?

It is, but I just checked that image on my phone and it won't work. Wallpapers need to be 960x480.

Loss of colours when setting wallpaper

Hi,
I'm having a weird problem I don't even know where to post. I recently created a picture which is perfectly visible in the gallery, and browser. But when I set it as wallpaper, I can see very visible banding effects. Is this a software bug or a hardware issue?
The wallpaper in question is linked below here:

Thanks.

Try using an app called Wallpaper Set & Save. I use it and it makes the banding and detail look much better. Hope this helps!
Hey, I tried it. Thanks, it works well. Though one wonders what's the problem with the default one.
I think because of the ability to resize it, it must do something weird.
Launcher Pro widgets can do this too unless you use High Quality mode.

[Q] Wallpaper "cropping" not working properly (multi-touch)?

Hi all,
I am still very new to my Xoom (have only had it for about a week) and I have noticed what seems to be a glitch with the "wallpaper resizer/cropping tool" in the gallery when I am trying to set new wallpapers.
On all of my other Android devices (past and present) when I resize the picture to make it may wallpaper I can simply do so by using 2 fingers (pinch to zoom) but when I try this on my Xoom it is only recognizing one finger at a time and I have to resize by moving the box down, then to the right, then up, then to the left, etc.
Does anyone else have this issue and if so does anyone know how to fix it?
Please advise...
Thanks in advance...
That's going to be the least of your concern. I'm trying to figure out how to enable the whole wallpaper instead of cropping it.

LOL... Ya... I read your thread as well. I can get my wallpapers to work from the gallery using the crop feature but it is a pain in the a$$ to do when it wont work properly...
One easy way to get all of the wallpaper to view is to install wallpaper slide show. It's a live wallpaper but it allows viewing of the whole thing.

Hi all,
I had this same problem until another thread on this forum where some one mentioned the Live Wallpaper app that solves these problems and works really well you can give it a try as its free.

Can someone tell me how to configure the app? When I click on folders it FC's.

[Q]How to set a wallpaper without cropping?

Hi!
I've got a Motorola Xoom, and I'm trying to personalize it a bit, but when it comes to setting the wallpaper I want I'm stuck.
Apparently some design-genious at Google found out that you have to crop your wallpaper so it fits both in landscape- and portrait-view. Doesn't actually sound too bad, but when you realize what resolution the wallpapers need to be; it starts getting utterly stupid. In order to make the wallpaper fit perfectly into the crop-frame it has to be 1920 x 1408px. That means that i have to crop all my 16:10 wallpapers quite a bit in order to make them fit.
What I actually want is a fixed wallpaper. I want a wallpaper that fits in landscape-view (1280 x 800px) and doesn't move when scrolling through the home-screens.
Is this possible?

Maybe I can give you some ideas. First a disclaimer: I'm running ICS and using Trebuchet launcher, and I add my custom wallpapers to the Trebuchet launcher before compiling it myself. I like to have the fancy wallpaper selection screen with my custom wallpapers, so I don't know how this would turn out if you just selected a wallpaper from the sd card and used that annoying crop screen to select a wallpaper. Anyhow, with that out of the way, this is how I do what you describe using a photo editor such as GIMP. Maybe you can adapt this to your situation:
1. Resize the original wallpaper to 1920x1408
2. Add solid black background layer of same size (1920x1408)
3. Resize the foreground picture layer to 1280x800 and save
4. Using Trebuchet launcher, disable wallpaper scrolling
That gives me the entire photo inside one screen without scrolling (landscape mode only). When in portait I have black bars on top and bottom. I'll attach an example. Maybe you can adapt this somehow because I'm not sure how it would work with the wallpaper picker that makes you crop the photo.
That is actually the best solution I've seen so far, but I still feel it is a little too much hassle for something that really should be easy to do.
Thanks for your help!
I think, unfortunately, the most common fix to this issue is to install Multi Picture Live Wallpaper (free in the market).
You can set the picture as the source image and you'll want to disable vertical sync I think it is..
Unfortunately the cropping issue blows and we have to go elsewhere to fix it.
Multi Picture Live Wallpaper is an okay solution, but it is kind of buggy. When changing to portrait-view and back to landscape-view the wallpaper gets zoomed.
After checking the Android bug-tracker I found that there were several people with the same problem, and I added a comment. I suggest that everyone else who is bothered by this, does the same.

I just tried QuickPic and it works great, no cropping necessary, but it leaves you the option to do it if you so choose.
Thanks!!

I am using HTC One V and I tried using quickpic but it doesn't work for me as mentioned above I used option "Set as quickpic wallpaper" and still shows me frame to crop and it doesnt stretch to entire screen. Anybody else faced this problem? Please help. Its annoying that HTC is forcing crop to set image as wallpaper. I downloaded HD 480x800 resolution wallpapers to go with my screen resolution and it still doesn't work
What a great idea though....quick pic def crops but if you put an extension on the photo you could get the whole photo in the crop
How would one do that? Or if someone can make an app...

I use PicSpeed from the market.
Select a pic from my gallery and then set as PicSpeed wallpaper.
Worked great for me.

I've tried this on kindle fire and transformer prime and my wallpaper always resets back to default crop after I go from landscape to portrait, or when I reboot. Any fixes for that?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium HD app
I'm not the creator of the app. I don't own a kindle fire to try it out so I'm not sure why that is happening or how to fix it.
As for the transformer... not sure either. I use that app on the tf01 transformer without any issues.
I have also used it on the xoom as well without a problem.
Both of those devices are running ICS ROMS with a custom kernel.
Maybe it's just my launcher then as I use nova prime on both devices
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium HD app
That would make sense. I don't use nova.

GEL: Stop wallpaper scrolling

I want to be able to stop the wallpaper from scrolling for my wifes N5, she's just moved on from a Galaxy S4 and doesn't like how the N5 scrolls her wallpaper picture.
Is there a way to stop the scrolling while still using the stock GEL launcher? I tried a few things people have suggested on forums but none work for the N5.
I don't want to use Nova or anything like that, I want to keep the GEL launcher as we both really like it.
If there isn't any way I'll just write a quick live wallpaper to show only one image and that will stop the scrolling, I'm just shocked someone else hasn't done anything yet if you can't change the stock launcher.
Cheers,
Just have one home screen?

I believe that the Xposed Module - 'Xposed GEL Settings' allows you to disable wallpaper scrolling in the GEL launcher.

She uses more than 1 home screen, by the time you put widgets on you can't live with one.

Requires root doesn't it? This is for stock android no root.
Sorry, forgot to mention that.

Top 2 are launchers (kitkat launcher is horrible compared to GEL, tried them last night).
wallpaperwizardrii doesn't work with the N5, exits the app every time I select "no scroll".
What I want is a way to do it without rooting or installing a custom launcher... e.g. keeping it 100% stock.
Looks like I'll need to write a "live" wallpaper that isn't live. Seems strange to me.
Thanks.
If you choose a wallpaper that is 1920x1080 resolution it should not scroll. There's a thread in themes and apps that had just those in portrait mode.

This is the answer. But I think you want a 1080x1920 wallpaper if you use 1920x1080 it will want to scroll across those 1920 pixels.

using s note page as wallpaper

Hey,
I thought about how sweet would it be if there was an app that can use the handwriting great ability using the s pen on the note 3 and combine it with another app that allow to use the s note(or any other similar app) as a wallpaper. this will allow me to use the wallpaper as a blackboard in a single press and see the changes automaticaly on the screen.
I searched a lot on every forum that i know if anyone found a solution for this and coudnt see any.
obviosly i can use the s note and then screencapture - set it as a wallpaper. After giving it a shot i found its uncomfortable and i will gave up on that idea as im looking for something more friendly without all that mess.
Any suggestions?

I have now. Allthough its pretty good it doesn't seem to help my issue as i need it to change it on the wallpaper.
I mean that if it would just auto save the screen captured to be the wallpaper it would be IT.
But it doesn't and so i'm left witht he same ritual of set to wallpaper.
Thanks though.
Any other suggstions?
