Hi all,
I am still very new to my Xoom (have only had it for about a week) and I have noticed what seems to be a glitch with the "wallpaper resizer/cropping tool" in the gallery when I am trying to set new wallpapers.
On all of my other Android devices (past and present) when I resize the picture to make it may wallpaper I can simply do so by using 2 fingers (pinch to zoom) but when I try this on my Xoom it is only recognizing one finger at a time and I have to resize by moving the box down, then to the right, then up, then to the left, etc.
Does anyone else have this issue and if so does anyone know how to fix it?
Please advise...
Thanks in advance...
That's going to be the least of your concern. I'm trying to figure out how to enable the whole wallpaper instead of cropping it.

LOL... Ya... I read your thread as well. I can get my wallpapers to work from the gallery using the crop feature but it is a pain in the a$$ to do when it wont work properly...
One easy way to get all of the wallpaper to view is to install wallpaper slide show. It's a live wallpaper but it allows viewing of the whole thing.

Hi all,
I had this same problem until another thread on this forum where some one mentioned the Live Wallpaper app that solves these problems and works really well you can give it a try as its free.
Marc
Can someone tell me how to configure the app? When I click on folders it FC's.

Does anyone else use this app and experience a problem where after a while half of the wallpaper goes black? It seems to be something to do with the orientation because it's as if it thinks it's in portrait so it cuts part of the wallpaper off. Switching the tablet's orientation to portrait and back temporarily fixes it.
Not sure if it's an app bug, honeycomb or just my tablet.. haven't seen anyone else mention it :S
No it is not your tablet, I had the same problem with my xoom. Are you using another program like HD wallpapers to set wallpapers? If so, this is your problem. What you have to do is download the wallpaper you want then use ww to set it. Hope this helps.

Ah ok thanks! Was using ww to set it to no scroll and then was using gallery to set the wallpaper. Have done it with ww now so should be all good.

I'll have to give that a try. I had stopped using the program because of this issue, but scrolling is SO much smoother with wallpaper scrolling disabled. Thanks!
Hmm.. thought it had solved the problem but it still happened. Have sent an email to the developer so hopefully will get a response
Cannot say thanks enough for the WW app!!!! I was about to go postal trying to change all of my sizes for wallpapers! Nothing worked and it all looked crappy. WW to the rescue! Thanks a ton!
And now I have the dreaded "black bar!!!" Jeezus these android devices are kilin me here! Why is this so damn difficult...
Forgot to post response from dev the other day, seems to be a problem with android not the app:
Hello James,
Thank you for taking the time to contact Twisted Apps. I really appreciate the information and hopefully I can explain the issue.
The black screen is not due to Honeycomb, but instead due to an Android API bug. I have noticed the error myself and I have only created a work around for it within the app. I have tried posting the issue to Android forums, but I haven't received a goodresponse as of yet. The problem happens more redly with devices that rotate because WW has to set the display demensionseach time the display isrotated. It isduring this Android API call that the screen goes back. The Wallpaper is still set, but nothing shows. Otherthan rotating the display, I have also created a Fix menu options. Select Menu->Fix and it attempts to resetyour current wallpaper. I personally have only noticed the error a few times with a few otherrandompeople mentioning it happening seldom. You are the first person to indicate it being more often then not. I amreally sorryit is causing issues for you.
Not the best solution, but here is a work around. Use WW to set your wallpaper as Scroll, and then if you want to set your screen to No Scroll use a home app such as Launcher Pro. When a home app normally sets the display to No scroll it doesn't keep reseting the display dimensions upon rotation. To get the Exact Setting with Scroll you will need to set the Wallpaper as Exact and then select menu->Scroll. Menu->Scroll will keep the current set wallpaper, but change it from No Scroll to Scroll. As a note most people like WW because of the No Scroll option, but WW also automatically resizes the images withouthavingto do special modifications to the image.
Twisted Apps is my startup with WW being the firstapp. I have anotherfull time occupation, but I willlook into this issue in the next couple of weeks to see if I can find a more permanent solution. Again,I sincerely appreciate you using WW and your time to e-mail me.
I hope you can be patient while I find a solution.
Sincerely,

Rooted my Fire and installed CM7. I am trying to install wallpaper but i cant get the size figured out. When i go to set the jpg as the wallpaper it is making me draw a box around an area and the box is smaller than the jpg. The wallpapers that come with CM7 work and look great, but i cant figure out the size of the screen for wallpapers i want to make. Thanks
Something like 960x800 (default Zedge wallpapers size) worked for me.
Take a look on that pack.
Around 40 wallpapers from there, simply chosen by me.

can you get the zedge app on the amazon app market?
Can't tell you, I'm on CM7.
Try simply search for "Zedge" or if you can't get it through Amazon, try to sideload it. Apk for you is right here.
The app is free, so nothing criminal, I think.
It looks like the wallpaper size is actually 1024x600
I'm having an issue installing wallpapers. I'm trying to pull them from my gallery but it keeps re-sizing.
Is there some trick to keeping the original size?

This appears to be the same problem i am having. The gallery is making me re-size the pic.
Same thing for me it forces me to resize and the quality turns to crap
No luck. I tried .jgp and .png files. Tried all kinds of different sizes and it still makes me crop it......
Have this problem with Gallery too.
Only option now for me is 960x800, at least looking not so low-res.
I tend to stick to very simple Live Wallpapers or none at all due to how fugly any image file tends to look
anyone come up with a solution to this problem yet?
this stupid problem ... I too annoying.
I just set wallpapers through PicSpeed Wallpapers. When it asks you to resize, pick the portrait box and it looks good

If you search google for a wallpaper that is 2048x1600 or something huge like that and use it on CM7 it works out looking great, at least it did for me.

Thanks, wallpapers with a resolution WHUXGA (7680 × 4800) really kicked ass this stupid error.

You can do this with WallBase. make sure whatever wallpapers you want(whether they be from your pc or downloaded on to your Kindle) are in the "saved" folder of the "WallBase" folder. You don't even have to resize it. It also keeps all the images high res.
Hi!
I've got a Motorola Xoom, and I'm trying to personalize it a bit, but when it comes to setting the wallpaper I want I'm stuck.
Apparently some design-genious at Google found out that you have to crop your wallpaper so it fits both in landscape- and portrait-view. Doesn't actually sound too bad, but when you realize what resolution the wallpapers need to be; it starts getting utterly stupid. In order to make the wallpaper fit perfectly into the crop-frame it has to be 1920 x 1408px. That means that i have to crop all my 16:10 wallpapers quite a bit in order to make them fit.
What I actually want is a fixed wallpaper. I want a wallpaper that fits in landscape-view (1280 x 800px) and doesn't move when scrolling through the home-screens.
Is this possible?

Maybe I can give you some ideas. First a disclaimer: I'm running ICS and using Trebuchet launcher, and I add my custom wallpapers to the Trebuchet launcher before compiling it myself. I like to have the fancy wallpaper selection screen with my custom wallpapers, so I don't know how this would turn out if you just selected a wallpaper from the sd card and used that annoying crop screen to select a wallpaper. Anyhow, with that out of the way, this is how I do what you describe using a photo editor such as GIMP. Maybe you can adapt this to your situation:
1. Resize the original wallpaper to 1920x1408
2. Add solid black background layer of same size (1920x1408)
3. Resize the foreground picture layer to 1280x800 and save
4. Using Trebuchet launcher, disable wallpaper scrolling
That gives me the entire photo inside one screen without scrolling (landscape mode only). When in portait I have black bars on top and bottom. I'll attach an example. Maybe you can adapt this somehow because I'm not sure how it would work with the wallpaper picker that makes you crop the photo.
That is actually the best solution I've seen so far, but I still feel it is a little too much hassle for something that really should be easy to do.
Thanks for your help!
I think, unfortunately, the most common fix to this issue is to install Multi Picture Live Wallpaper (free in the market).
You can set the picture as the source image and you'll want to disable vertical sync I think it is..
Unfortunately the cropping issue blows and we have to go elsewhere to fix it.
Multi Picture Live Wallpaper is an okay solution, but it is kind of buggy. When changing to portrait-view and back to landscape-view the wallpaper gets zoomed.
After checking the Android bug-tracker I found that there were several people with the same problem, and I added a comment. I suggest that everyone else who is bothered by this, does the same.

I just tried QuickPic and it works great, no cropping necessary, but it leaves you the option to do it if you so choose.
Thanks!!

I am using HTC One V and I tried using quickpic but it doesn't work for me as mentioned above I used option "Set as quickpic wallpaper" and still shows me frame to crop and it doesnt stretch to entire screen. Anybody else faced this problem? Please help. Its annoying that HTC is forcing crop to set image as wallpaper. I downloaded HD 480x800 resolution wallpapers to go with my screen resolution and it still doesn't work
What a great idea though....quick pic def crops but if you put an extension on the photo you could get the whole photo in the crop
How would one do that? Or if someone can make an app...

I've tried this on kindle fire and transformer prime and my wallpaper always resets back to default crop after I go from landscape to portrait, or when I reboot. Any fixes for that?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium HD app
I'm not the creator of the app. I don't own a kindle fire to try it out so I'm not sure why that is happening or how to fix it.
As for the transformer... not sure either. I use that app on the tf01 transformer without any issues.
I have also used it on the xoom as well without a problem.
Both of those devices are running ICS ROMS with a custom kernel.
Maybe it's just my launcher then as I use nova prime on both devices

That would make sense. I don't use nova.

FREAKING GENIUS!!! Made an account just to tell you THANKS!!! :good:
Hey,
I thought about how sweet would it be if there was an app that can use the handwriting great ability using the s pen on the note 3 and combine it with another app that allow to use the s note(or any other similar app) as a wallpaper. this will allow me to use the wallpaper as a blackboard in a single press and see the changes automaticaly on the screen.
I searched a lot on every forum that i know if anyone found a solution for this and coudnt see any.
obviosly i can use the s note and then screencapture - set it as a wallpaper. After giving it a shot i found its uncomfortable and i will gave up on that idea as im looking for something more friendly without all that mess.
Any suggestions?

I have now. Allthough its pretty good it doesn't seem to help my issue as i need it to change it on the wallpaper.
I mean that if it would just auto save the screen captured to be the wallpaper it would be IT.
But it doesn't and so i'm left witht he same ritual of set to wallpaper.
Thanks though.
Any other suggstions?
I've purchased the Pixel 7 Pro when it came out and migrated apps from my OnePlus 6. Since then the wallpaper has been changing automatically every day. Doesn't happen on the OnePlus. It didn't bother me much, but after a while it started to get a bit on my nerves. And I am now trying to avoid doing a factory reset.
I haven't rooted this phone yet as I need it for work, and I am wondering if anyone in this awesome community have some ideas they can share on how to debug the problem. Do I need to root the phone to be able to identify the problem? (avoiding this as I won't be able to use it for work due to the apps I need)
I've gone through all apps to check whether they have any automatic wallpaper switcher and couldn't find the culprit. Also uninstalled any wallpaper related apps and disabled the ones that I couldn't uninstall.
I use Nova Launcher and uninstalled it for a few days to see if that was the cause (it wasn't). And I've searched on the phone for all images I have to try to find the active wallpaper to maybe identify the app this way, but can't find anything. Using Mixplorer, but probably will need root to better access all files?
Any help is appreciated.
Um, have you used the Styles& Wallpaper built in app? This should overwrite everything else as soon as you set it to something...
I did yes. But as there is no automatic wallpaper setting in the Pixel I guess it doesn't change that.
I've tried setting live wallpaper, static, own photo, and it always change.
It's been a challenge trying to find the issue
Maybe someone can point me in the right direction to identify the wallpaper location or some logging.
Damn that's weird Good luck with logging, I think it'll be like looking for a small needle in a large hay stack... Unless you know the exact moment it changes?
