On how to add a different keyboard?? I can't seem to get it working.
Thanks.
What rom are you running? Also, is this a keyboard you've installed but can't seem to select? Some keyboards you have to activate first by going to Settings and under the Language & Keyboard section before it will show up in your Input Methods list of keyboards for you to be able to select it.

Stock with added proformance pack. I installed swiftkey, and tried to select it and it didn't
work. I seen that the file need to be moved and have values changed, which I tried, but
could not get it working.

Using a Different Keyboards.
1. You need to install the keyboard you want, from the Market or sideload the apk.
eg. thumb.apk
2. once installed, go to settings->Language & Keyboard, and see if that keyboard needs to be enabled.
- some keyboard needs enabled from the settings.
3. From the browser or search or on any input area, Long press ( press and hold your finger) until it pops-up the option to select input method.
From that list select your keyboard.

Not sure what your saying. There is a way to any keyboard, but it seems to enable it, you
need to move the file then change values or something like that.
rothnic had some hack for swype keyboard, so i thought you you could follow some of his steps for the permissions.

Try
Try a different Keyboard and see if you can get it to work with the steps given. If you can then maybe try and reinstall the keyboard you want.
Just a thought.

Tried that also. I tried to install thumb keyboard and got the same result.
I hope maybe someone wont mind maybe making a video that shows how
to do this...
This worked for me:
Download the files from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9532446&postcount=1
1. Put the "Replace_TNT_Settings.zip" in you internal SDcard.
2. rename it "Update.zip"
3. Reboot into CWM recovery and choose "apply sdcard:update.zip"
4. once done reboot system
5. Go to settings> language & keyboard
6.enable you keyboards
7. Put the "Rollback_TNT_Settings.zip" in you internal SDcard
8. rename it Update.zip
9. Reboot into CWM recovery and choose "apply sdcard:update.zip"
10. once done reboot system
11. long press on a text entry field and select your keyboard of choice.
I now have the Swiftkey keyboard and thumb keyboard working. Swipe Force closes on me (I'll see if I can get a different Swipe version to work).

Hi guys, i've tried searching for the fix before posting but i was unsuccessful. i installed dutty's rom on my att tilt now i cant use my keyboard wen texting because of the xt9 and other keys not being mapped correctly. ive tried to mess with the xt9 settings and the word completion settings but nothing seems to fix it. when i type a text the predictive text pops up and i have to push over on the directional pad to move the curser over then continue typing. also some of the alternate characters dont match up to the keyboard. is there any way to fix it? thanx in advance..
HOW TO Disable XT9

FOR SAPPHIRE
I read a post earlier about fixing some apps not working.
in build.prop
change to 4 instead of 5.
ro.build.version.sdk=4
Did this and re-ran part 1 and part 2. Works fine with Handcent and facebook app working. haven't got any FC with other apps and navigation still working after a few hours and some reboots.
Uploaded a new .rar with changes to build.prop
http://www.mediafire.com/?jwhmkzay2mm
Extract All to Desktop
Run part 1 - when prompted hit any key and phone will reboot.
when up and running, run part 2.
Test nav by opening google maps and geting directions. Underneath "Show on Maps" you should see "Navigate" If you don't try installing Google Voice (fixed it for a lot of people)
If you did the above and Navigate isn't working, here is a link to the build.prop version that causes some app errors but gets nav Working

Thank for putting this all together - i'll try it later on today.
Quick question though, why would you wipe after you install the rooted base? Would that not defy the point of installing the rooted base in the first place? Shouldn't it be: 1. Wipe, 2. rootedbase.zip, 3. Reboot, 4. cynwmap.zip?

Yeah that looks correct to me. My understanding was 1. Wipe 2. Flash base 3. Reboot in recovery again 4. Flash Cynwmap
Also: If we already are already running CM 4.2.3.1 can we just flash the cynwmap.zip over the top without worrying about flashing the base again?
if i wanted to just run part 1.bin how would i do this? i tried and i got some errors about the files not existing.

That should work to push the correct buid props, the reason that the rooted base was put in there, was to add the maps to the original package...
I'm going to modify this later tonight to make it just a patch update deal...

No...nothing of the sort. It just looked like the normal Google Maps app to me
My steps EXACTALLY
Ok here's what I did, and its only for the **mt3g** (possibly the sapphire)
1. used amon's recovery and partitioned my card 3 ways.
2. enabled USB mass storage from recovery
3. Wiped
4. choose update ---> rooted base.zip
5. reboot right into recovery
6. wipe again (probably repetitive)
7. choose update ---> cyan w map.zip
8. wipe again for good measure (again probably repetitive)
9. reboot
at this point i get the familiar cyan boot, it goes into the setup and says welcome to droid.
I skip all setup because I have to use wifi, probably not relevant but that is what I do.
Enable wifi.
click on maps (which you will see has a different logo now)
enter 2 USA addresses
click get directions
it finds directions and right under show on map, it says navigate.
clicked on navigate.
I then get prompted to download voices, click download
sign-in to google shiz
download voice pacakage
rerun maps and do a directions again
click navigate
EDIT:
There is a possibility that you will have to clear the data that is stored in the applications:
Settings
Applications
scroll to maps
Click on clear data
done.

If this works, there is a couple more changes I am going to make, but I first want to see if people can get this working.
so, it seems as if a lot of people want to get the stock Android keyboard onto sense builds, because they type better, keys larger, word prediction less intrusive, etc.
so, i got it to work, but i don't believe that the voice search for it works.
i attached a LatinIME.apk to the thread, download it and save it to wherever is convenient. I saved it to my desktop.
1. adb push the LatinIME.apk to /system/app
Code:
adb remount
adb install <where you put your LatinIME.apk>
2. go to Settings> Keyboard and Language and make sure Android Keyboard shows up. There's going to be two different Android Keyboards, nevermind that.
3. find any app or place that has a text input box, like chompSMS or your texting app. open up a thread or start a new message
4. tap and HOLD the empty text box, and select Text Input. there should be three choices: Touch Input, Android Keyboard, and Android Keyboard.
5. it could be different for you, but if you select the first Android Keyboard, you'll encounter a force close. If you chose the second Android Keyboard, it should work.
BASICALLY, pick either of the Android Keyboard choices; one will not force close.
now, you can use the Android keyboard on 2.1!
EDIT: there might be only one Android Keyboard, i had two, but your results may vary. Either way, it should work
EDIT2: if the adb install method returns an unexpected error or a failure, try doing an adb push.
Code:
adb remount
adb push <path of LatinIME.apk> /system/app
that's fail for me... I only have on android keyboard show up, and it just FC's.
Running fresh 2.1b
make sure you downloaded the file i attached.. it says 0 views.
well, i've downloaded it twice and it still says 0 views lol

shows 10 views now....
reported that this works better if you do an install instead of just pushing...
so
Code:
adb install LatinIME.apk
I am using the Eris Leak (Villian3.3) on Hero and on installing I get the following:
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_UPDATE_INCOMPATIBLE]
Pushing also fails with a'No space left on device error'. I tried some other LatianIME.apk's that I got out of other 2.1 Roms and had the same troubles.
Is there anything I am missing or could try? I really like the android keyboard over the HTC one!
EDIT: If I remove the HTC keyboard and push the attached I end up with no keyboard at all as the apk is not compatible (I'm guessing). I even tried to using a LatinIME from an 2.1 asop Rom thinking it should work! Nope...
did adb install on 2.0b, said successful installed and nothing show up in touch input after reboot.
Worked great!
Thanks!
Off topic
Do you know the name of the 2.1 lockscreen apk? I was going to rip it from the DarchDroid release but I can't find it.
This doesnt work on 2.0b2. Damn, says "not installed"
update
Here's the link for the source code for LatinIME
If anyone want's to play around with it, maybe we can get it to work.
http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=platform/packages/inputmethods/LatinIME.git;a=tree;hb=HEAD
We're missing some resources that are only available in the open source eclair builds.
+1 for this thread. I followed the adb instructions above and successfully installed the stock keyboard to the fresh 2.0b rom the other day but for whatever reason, doing the same thing to damage's new rom gives me the "install unsucessful/failure dialog mentioned above as well. I'd appreciate any help or suggestions.
if you get an install unsuccessful, try an adb push.
instead of adb install <path of LatinIME.apk>, try this
Code:
adb remount
adb push <path of LatinIME.apk> /system/app
at first it was discovered that the install method would work better, but using adb push worked fine for me. test it out anyone?

Same here using DamageControl. I really want this keyboard.
No luck on Damagecontrol Rom,
I've now tried both pushing and installing following the instructions above on the most recent Damagecontrol v.9999999 and have had no luck with either. I get the same [INSTALL_FAILED_UPDATE_INCOMPATIBLE] when I try to install and when I push, it shows the file as having been transfered but it doesn't show up when I long press or in my language & keyboard settings. Anyone have any other suggestions? Any and all help is appreciated.
I tried to install this on a HTC Hero with Villain 3.4 (sense 2.1) and it does not work, the apk is there, but it does not show up.
I've also tried the VoiceSearchWithKeyboard.apk (should be nexux one keyboard with voice control), this shows up in the options, but it does not show up in input method, maybe someone has more luck?

Completely excellent! Works fine on Villian3.4. Would prefer the keyboard without the voice search, so I can type a comma without two keypresses... Still beggars can't be choosers!

Ok. 2 things for you smarties-
A. Flashed MHX's superlite4.2 and lost my abilities to see, let alone download chrome and facebook in the Play Store(and probably more... havnt looked much further than that)
Re-flash?
B. Also, I havnt seen say anything about this yet, but in CWM (both touch and normal) when i go to clear the dalvik cache i get an "E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]" along the bottom when i click the "wipe Dalvik Cache" button. Note: this is not when i actually go to clear it, just when i hit the button before the no/no.../yes/no... prompt.
I one-clicked and rooted twice, and this was there both times.
***Edit- did some more searching, NVM on part B. Figured it out. Nothing to worry about!!

Yes but you have to be rooted and have a custom recovery installed to flash the zip that removes it. You can find the zip in the theme and app section.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33655756&postcount=2
I long press in the notification pull down, select app info, and force close. Works good until you reboot.
