FOR SAPPHIRE
I read a post earlier about fixing some apps not working.
in build.prop
change to 4 instead of 5.
ro.build.version.sdk=4
Did this and re-ran part 1 and part 2. Works fine with Handcent and facebook app working. haven't got any FC with other apps and navigation still working after a few hours and some reboots.
Uploaded a new .rar with changes to build.prop
http://www.mediafire.com/?jwhmkzay2mm
Extract All to Desktop
Run part 1 - when prompted hit any key and phone will reboot.
when up and running, run part 2.
Test nav by opening google maps and geting directions. Underneath "Show on Maps" you should see "Navigate" If you don't try installing Google Voice (fixed it for a lot of people)
If you did the above and Navigate isn't working, here is a link to the build.prop version that causes some app errors but gets nav Working

Thank for putting this all together - i'll try it later on today.
Quick question though, why would you wipe after you install the rooted base? Would that not defy the point of installing the rooted base in the first place? Shouldn't it be: 1. Wipe, 2. rootedbase.zip, 3. Reboot, 4. cynwmap.zip?

Yeah that looks correct to me. My understanding was 1. Wipe 2. Flash base 3. Reboot in recovery again 4. Flash Cynwmap
Also: If we already are already running CM 4.2.3.1 can we just flash the cynwmap.zip over the top without worrying about flashing the base again?
if i wanted to just run part 1.bin how would i do this? i tried and i got some errors about the files not existing.

That should work to push the correct buid props, the reason that the rooted base was put in there, was to add the maps to the original package...
I'm going to modify this later tonight to make it just a patch update deal...
Got a micro-bio test in the AM
and yes, i had the first two instructions fliped.. i'll edit to correct it.
What are the odds Cyanogen puts something like this in the next update?
I hope so
ps, first post, been rooted and running Cyanogenmod for a week or so now, really digging it.

I forgot about that.
Well is there a way to make a quick patch job of it for noobs like myself?
I tried this exactly was instructions said...but couldn't get navigation...
I went to "get directions" and typed in the addresses and whatnot, but didn't get any navigation? Maybe someone can enlighten me (isn't it supposed to be turn by turn voice?). Thanks
no offense to the Original Poster but...
can anyone else confirm that this actually works?
i really want Google Maps Nav on my phone!!!
Thanks again to the OP for this.

No...nothing of the sort. It just looked like the normal Google Maps app to me
My steps EXACTALLY
Ok here's what I did, and its only for the **mt3g** (possibly the sapphire)
1. used amon's recovery and partitioned my card 3 ways.
2. enabled USB mass storage from recovery
3. Wiped
4. choose update ---> rooted base.zip
5. reboot right into recovery
6. wipe again (probably repetitive)
7. choose update ---> cyan w map.zip
8. wipe again for good measure (again probably repetitive)
9. reboot
at this point i get the familiar cyan boot, it goes into the setup and says welcome to droid.
I skip all setup because I have to use wifi, probably not relevant but that is what I do.
Enable wifi.
click on maps (which you will see has a different logo now)
enter 2 USA addresses
click get directions
it finds directions and right under show on map, it says navigate.
clicked on navigate.
I then get prompted to download voices, click download
sign-in to google shiz
download voice pacakage
rerun maps and do a directions again
click navigate
EDIT:
There is a possibility that you will have to clear the data that is stored in the applications:
Settings
Applications
scroll to maps
Click on clear data
done.

I did not do this, I only remembered it from when I had my nexus, so I thought I would share here, because I'm sure many of you do not check the nexus forum. It works, 100%, I've tested it myself on build 7 of CM6 nightly.
All credit goes to rcxquake.
Here is the link to the original thread... HERE
Here are his instructions. I just renamed the file so it was a little shorter. my changes are colored.
This is a modified flash apk file that enables you to watch hulu on your rooted, froyo-running android device. It is my project to return to the community. Please only use this fix if you know what you are doing, as I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone.
Instructions:
1.) UNINSTALL FLASH
2.) Download the .apk
3.) adb install nexusflash.apk (or your preferred method of installing the .apk)
4.) apply the ABOUT: DEBUG fix if you haven't already (both fixes are required) (Alternative option provided below)
5.) watch hulu!
The about:debug fix is that in the browser address field, type 'about:debug', without quotes, and then hit 'go'. then, in the browser settings, at the bottom of the settings list you will see 'uastring'. change it to say 'desktop', instead of 'android'
Adam B. has requested I link to his post on a .apk that automatically applies the useragent (step 4), so you don't have to. Find it here. Install his .apk just like you installed nexusflash.apk.
Changelog:
June 17- Updated to Version 10.1.72.7
June 09- Updated to Version 10.1.72.4
Enjoy!
If you don't understand the directions, I suggest you use the SEARCH function. I will absolutely NOT answer questions that you can find the answer to on your own.
QA:
Q: I upgraded to FRF72, and the flash.apk isn't working. What is wrong?
A: You lost root. Root your phone to get this .apk working again.
Q: I am running Froyo on my droid / other non-nexus phone. Will this flash.apk work?
A: Maybe. This apk appears to work on recent froyo roms, but not older.

Its working, I can watch Hulu but its not 100% smooth. Definitely watchable but it gets a little jerky at times. Any idea or is this expected?

C:\Users\me>adb install nexusflash.apk
1430 KB/s (3917376 bytes in 2.674s)
/sbin/sh: pm: not found
so it def. wont work on 2.1.

in the browser address bar, type 'about:debug', then hit the return key, or go, or whatever to enter it and make the browser process it like a web address. then, hit your hard menu key, go to settings, and all the way at the bottom is an option to change the uastring. change it to say 'desktop'

Keyboard works.
Wifi may work(untested)
Accelerometer works.
Missing anything...?
Thanks:
Thank you Brendan for testing this release for me while my phone takes a little "nap" lol.
Features:
Deodexed
Bloatware removed
Scripts
Build.prop mods
Not sure if everyone know's this, but all my releases come with a widget that looks just like the HTC Clock called Fancy Widgets.
Please report bugs to me as you find them. Best way to contact me is email me at or my GTalk Matt4542.
How to install:Important!
You will need to download Koush's bootstrap application and bootstrap your recovery. Then you can boot into recovery via the same app or you can install via ROM Manager(by rebooting into recovery, not via install rom from sdcard). Once you boot into recovery do a FULL nandroid backup and then you go to mounts and storage and mount /system manually to avoid more issues. Install zip from sdcard and toggle signature verification to disable. Now you can install the zip from the sdcard. Once this is done, reboot.
Now after reading all that here is your download!

NOTE: Updated September 7th, 2010. Added additional steps to the process. Reread to reapply the Epic Unleashed 1.1!
Please READ each direction CAREFULLY and BEFORE executing each step. I can not stress how many mistakes are made because someone did not READ the directions carefully. So... yeah, once again, READ THE DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY!
How to Apply EpicUnleashed 1.1
Credits: The ROM was created by Matt4542. Tutorial was written by me with some simple directions from Matt. You'll need to be rooted in order to run the Droid 2 Bootstrapper.
The fine print: Matt4542 and/or I (DarkOnion) can not be held responsible if you mess up. If you mess up, you mess up. That's why I wrote the .sbf recovery tutorial. Matt has also written one. More simple, but requires Linux.
Here we go.
1. Download Koush Bootstrap here.
http://koush.tandtgaming.com//motorola/droid2/Droid2Bootstrap.apk
2. Download Epic Unleashed 1.1!
http://www.epic.grrmode.com/Epic-Unleashed11Deodexed.zip
3. Move both files to the base of the SD Card. Best way to do this is to plug your phone into your computer and move it like that. Make sure you phone is in USB mass storage mode. To change it, pull down the notification blind, choose USB connection, and choose USB Mass storage. Now copy and paste the two files to the new removable drive that showed up in your My Computer. The Epic-Unleashed11Deodexed.zip needs to be at the base of the SD card, and not in any folders. After moving all the files over to the phone, change the connection type back to Charge Only. Notfication blind -> USB Connection -> Charge only.
4. Install Koush Droid 2 Bootstrapper. Using an app installer, Astro File Manager, or equivalent, navigate to your SD card. The folder in Astro File Manager will be called sdcard. Choose Droid2Bootstrap.apk and install it. Follow the directions.
5. Now that it is installed, open Droid 2 Bootstrapper located in your applications section menu. It'll probably ask you for Super User access, say yes.
6. Press Bootstrap Recovery. It'll probably ask you for Super User access, say yes.
7. Next, we want to back your system file up by making a system image. In the Droid2 Bootstrapper, which you are already in, choose Reboot Recovery. Your phone should restart and load up into the bootloader. You should see some green text with various options, and a little lower than the middle of the screen, it says ClockworkMod Recovery.
Notes for navigating through the system. You need to use the keyboard to navigate. "Enter" will select. "Del" will cancel/go back. and the arrows are movement.
8. Using your slide out keyboard, scroll down to backup and restore and press the enter key. It should take you to another window. Choose Backup. Let it runs it's course. After it is all said and done. Reboot your phone by choosing reboot system now. (I don't think the rebooting is necessary, but I am just going to do it be safe.)
9. After you are done rebooting, if you did this, go back to the Droid 2 Bootstrapper, and choose Reboot Recovery. It'll reboot, and you'll eventually be back at the screen with the green text.
10. Using your keyboard buttons, choose mount and storage. And then choose mount /system. After that, press del to go back to the main menu.
11. Using your keyboard buttons, choose install zip from sdcard.
12. You need to make sure signature verification is off. Choose toggle signature verification and make sure it is off. At the bottom, under ClockworkMod Recovery, it'll say whether or not signature verification is enabled or disabled. You want it to say that it is disabled.
13. Then choose install zip from sdcard. Choose Epic-Unleashed11Deodexed.zip. It'll ask to confirm. Scroll down to Yes, and press enter. You'll see some commands going and eventually say it is complete.
14. Now navigate back to the main menu by pressing "Del" on the keyboard. And restart your phone by choosing reboot system now. It'll reboot and that's it! You've added EpicUnleashed 1.1.
Note: Your first boot will take a little while, up to 10 minutes. PLEASE BE PATIENT. You know that you corrected updated if your start-up animation is different.
If you need to undo this thing, boot back up into bootloader using Droid 2 Bootstrapper -> Reboot Recovery -> Back Up and Restore (after the reboot) -> Restore.
If you like this tutorial or any other tutorial, please feel free to show your gratitude by sending me a few bucks my way. I am a poor college student always trying to make ends meet. And please don't forget about Matt. Send some love his way, too. It takes time create this stuff, not to mention troubleshoot, fix, and update. Make sure you send some love his direction. He needs money for a domain name. Paypal him at:
If anyone comes across and problems with instructions, please let me know. I am going to try to keep this thread updated and easy to use.

Maybe you can put the launcher2.apk for 2.2 as the main homescreen. I downloaded it from the droid incredible forum on my phone and everything is working alot snappier on my end. Still using stock just looking and waiting until everything is figured on this rom.

Actually all of the bugs have been ironed out. It is a problem with the recovery. It may affect you, may not. I would put the stock Froyo launcher but I am not going to risk screwing with blur and causing more problems now. I will do it in a later release.

Hey guys!
Noob here who has flashed other phones in the past, but never anything Android based. Is there a step by step guide anywhere for the Mesmerize? Something generic and simple to follow from post root to a fully flashed phone?
Thanks for any input.
Tyler
Well our moderator is nowhere to be seen.. we should have a step by step sticked.. but we don't.
1) Root your phone. Search the forums to figure out how to do that.
2) Install RomManager and the ClockworkMod Recovery. There's a thread for that as well.
3) Download and install the ROM of your choice. Roms are located in the Dev Forums.
The details can be found in the Mesmerize General and the Mesmerize Development Forums. Search is your friend.

When I began this process about 2 weeks ago, I was at the same experience level as you Tyler. This is what worked easiest for me for my US Cellular Mesmerize.
(I'm just going to elaborate a bit on what Dcow posted, hopefully he doesn't mind .
Also keep in mind there are many variations to each step, this is what worked for me the easiest as a newb, hoping it does for you too.
And last but not least. There is always the disclaimer that attempting any of this can and will make your phone dysfunctional and or possibly bricked beyond repair (but most likely just dysfunctional which is a pain in the arse to deal with) if you do not follow steps completely (and of a trustworthy source such as xda).
So take your time, read each step that these people have taken the time to carefully write up, and you'll be just fine. Be patient as things don't always move fast and you never want to freak out as you may screw things up bad, when it's actually just taking longer than you would expect. There is alot going on behind the scenes so just give it time, trust me!
1) Root your phone. - Basically all this means is gaining the ability to give programs/apps and yourself SuperUser access (equivalent of being admin in windows) and also the ability to flash roms via recovery, detailed below.
The easiest way to root is to acquire the z4root.apk.
Download Here
After download, put z4root.apk on your SD card root directory
Then make sure in Settings->Applications that the "Unknown sources" box is checked.
If you don't have a file manager, download a free one from the market, using the file manager navigate to the z4root.apk and select to install it.
Reboot your phone
After it boots, open the z4root app and press root. At this point it is going to hang, give it 2 minutes and pull the battery. Count to 10, put it back in and turn it on. - This is normal, trust me.
After it reboots open z4root again and run it, this time it will run no problems and phone will reboot.
Once you are rooted (you will see the superuser icon in your apps, it will show apps you've given that permission to eventually) you will need to make sure you have a file manager that can request root permissions (read/write) before you will be able to complete the next step. Search the market for "root file manager" and pick one to download and install.
Also at this step I would download and install RomManager and TerminalEmulator as you will need these later.
2) Install RomManager and the ClockworkMod Recovery. These will basically just give you the ability to boot into recovery where you can more easily flash kernel's/rom's and anything else you wish to push to your phone.
I was able to install the Clockwork Mod Recovery very easily just by simply using the root file manager app I downloaded with these instructions.
Download the two zip files located in the first post here
Place both files on your SD card root
Using the root file explorer app, move the Redbend_ua file from the SD card to /system/xbin/
Long press on the Redbend_ua file and click permissions, there should be one check missing, check that.
Now open the TerminalEmulator
NOTE:The spaces below are actual spaces and the bml8 is a lowercase "L" not a "1" there is also a space after cd, after redbend_ua, after restore, and after recovery.bin
TYPE THIS ALL EXACTLY AS SHOWN BETWEEN THE QUOTES
at the command line ($) type "su" (then hit enter)
Type "cd /system/xbin" (then hit enter, which changes directory)
Type "redbend_ua restore /sdcard/recovery.bin /dev/block/bml8" (then hit enter, It will now scroll a bunch of text and reboot.)
After phone boots, open RomManager
Click on Flash ClockworkMod Recovery
Select the Samsung Fascinate your phone will still be the mesmerize
At this point you're all stock and ready for new kernel/rom.
3) Install Voodoo lagfix kernel and new 5.0 sound
If you want speed and good battery life (and high standard marks) +unlocking the headphone amp and eq controls (it makes even the samsung headset sound killer) go here and follow those steps for using your now functional recovery mode to flash the new Voodoo 5.0 kernel.
Note: There are a few ways of getting into this recovery mode, the best way if all else fails is to hold phone from the back with left hand (thumb on volume button, in the middle holding both down and pointer on power button) hold these down until the mesmerize logo pops up then slide your thumb down a bit to volume down only (if you slip don't worry it might blink but it'll still go to recovery)
Note: If you are more code/computer oriented there is a method using a program called ADB, which I'm not familiar with and seemed more complicated than what I went with. Search for that on the forum if you wish to do the above process that way instead.
4) Download and install the ROM of your choice.
Just pick one from this list Here, read through the first post of each before you decide, some are plug and play some take a few steps first.
Credit goes to all of the OP's and many others included in my sig, these people are awesome show them some love!

In the meantime Ill move this to general.
I few days ago I found an explanation here on how to do this:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1694111-Installing-Clockwork-and-Voodoo-onto-the-Samsung-Mesmerize
(The same explanation bdemartino gave here today)
1. I used the files from there. How do I tell if I am running voodoo5?
2. If its not the same, I've read that I can install voodoo5 over another voodoo, correct?
3. Is anyone having trouble with 3g, vibrate, etc...on the mez? I saw in the voodoo5 thread that a few people were having trouble with these things. I couldn't tell if they were fascinate, mesmerize or captivate.

http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...ockwork-and-Voodoo-onto-the-Samsung-Mesmerize

That is the old Voodoo kernel, you will need to go to the link I listed in my post for Voodoo 5, and yes you can simply disable lagfix and flash the new one over the old.
And no problems on the write up, I spent a good amount of time digging up the links and stuff but I'll spend a little more time polishing it and will post it in another thread for Scotsman to stickie.
And to answer your last question, no I'm having no problems with any functions of my phone after upgrading to voodoo 5.
Thanks for the write up and nice job on it too. It seems, sometimes when people try and tell others how to do something, they don't break it down enough. But you did and made it easy for us noobs. Thanks again.
My clockwork ( or voodoo, not sure) didn't come with a "disable lag-fix" button. I just have to create an empty file called "disable_lagfix". I'm just unclear where to put it. I saw it somewhere before I just have to find it

There isn't a button, per se. When you go in to recovery, there is a disable lagfix option under voodoo. You can put the file, disable_lagfix, in the voodoo folder on your sdcard to do the same thing.
He does write up a good how-to, though, doesn't he.
Haha thanks guys, and you're welcome!
I think the reason you don't usually see this much detail from others is because they are more developmentally enabled and therefore "forget" to break down the little steps that are second nature to them but foreign language to a non-developer.
Thanks. I found it. and disabled it aready. now i just download the file in the write-up and boot into recovery, install zip from sd card and select my file correct?
I always wipe dalvik cache (in advance settings within Recover) before flashing anything.
So it's;
Disable Lagfix
Reboot (you'll hear the chick reversing the process)
Clear Dalvik
Install voodoo 5.0 from zip
reboot
re-enable lagfix and reboot one last time.
Then you'll need to download the voodoo controller app from the market to control the amp gain and set a few other eq settings.
Man you guys are fast. Thanks for the quick replies. WOW
Ive done all that except re-enable lag-fix. Noone ever mentions that step. Do I just remove the "disable_lagfix" file from the voodoo file and reboot?
I just enable/disable it through the voodoo menu in recovery, much easier than pushing files around. In your case i think you should be able to delete the file and reboot, but if not you may just need to go into voodoo and enable it that way (after removing the disable file)
I guess if I edit a post and dont finish it, the post gets deleted. Oh well, I asked how to reenalbe lag fix but i figured it out. Like I said I had to put the disable lag_fix file in the voodoo folder. I just had to remove it from that folder.
Is there a way to tell (besides the quickness and the extended battery life) how do i tell if its voodoo5? just out of curiousity
Just a guess here but possibly under About Phone the kernel version might? Mine is listed as 2.6.29
I would also think that when trying to use the Voodoo app it would fail if you didn't have the kernel so that would be a sign too, if that's what you're looking for.
Well thanks alot. Thats what mine was listed as also. And the voodoo app did work, so I guess I've got it. And I think thats all for now.
Now I think I might wait to see the awesome developers come up with for 2.2. I dont mind the stock 2.1 for now. I just dont want to keep flashing ROM's, if they might be close to getting a version of 2.2 going. I can wait....I think.
Thanks Again

2.2 is so close, you should be able to smell it. I've had it's froyo-ey goodness all over my phone and even with the issues we're still having, I flash it back every night when I get home to play with it.

Ok. 2 things for you smarties-
A. Flashed MHX's superlite4.2 and lost my abilities to see, let alone download chrome and facebook in the Play Store(and probably more... havnt looked much further than that)
Re-flash?
B. Also, I havnt seen say anything about this yet, but in CWM (both touch and normal) when i go to clear the dalvik cache i get an "E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]" along the bottom when i click the "wipe Dalvik Cache" button. Note: this is not when i actually go to clear it, just when i hit the button before the no/no.../yes/no... prompt.
I one-clicked and rooted twice, and this was there both times.
***Edit- did some more searching, NVM on part B. Figured it out. Nothing to worry about!!
Thanks for your help! You guys rock!
try this first:
http://www.mediafire.com/?2bzkpwmwc652vn8
clear data under applications for google play, then install this within regular menu, from astro or any other filemanager
run and reconfigure. I you still can't find them then yes, perform a darkside/reflash
And yes, as you already figured out. "E:unknown volume" is nothing to worry about
thanks icenight89!
I ended up doing a darkside and flashing nexusmod ICS... Looks like it's more of what i want for the time being.
You da BOMB!

I already have the apk of it. I would like a fix to make it compatible with the ROM superlite 4.2 . I guess I'll ask on the ROM thread.
The Google Now Installer/Restorer v1.1
Purpose
There have been a lot of users with issues installing and uninstalling Google Now for ICS. This is my solution for those users.
This is only an installer for the many different variations of Google Now that were created in this news worthy thread: The Google Now for ICS Project
This installer allow user of different types of roms and devices to quickly install Google Now to see if it works for them and if it does not, it allows these users to restore their original Google Search.
This thread is not and will not be about issues with specific modded Google Now apks, go here: The Google Now for ICS Project for that. I have no problem incorporating new apks into the installer. But I will not attempt to deal with issues outside of the installer.
Testing(Green = working, Red = not working)
(Need more people to test as many different devices, roms, and recoveries)
Devices
HTC EVO 3D
HTC EVO 4g LTE
Roms
OTA_Shooter_ICS_35_S_Sprint_WWE_2.89.651.2-2.17.651.5
Tranquility rls1b
Recoveries
CWM 5.0.2.0
TWRP s-on
So if you experience any issues, I will attempt to help, but understand that I if you are not setup the exact same, I may not know what is wrong.
Touch recovery is not active in this aroma installer, so use up and down to make a selection and the power button to confirm the selection.
Requirements
Rooted
ICS
CWM (only recovery tested, others may work, you let me know)
Instructions(should already know this, but here you go)
1. Transfer .zip to the root of your sd card
2. Boot into recovery
3. Select "install zip from sdcard"
4. Select "choose zip from sdcard"
5. Select "GoogleNowforICSInstaller_v1.0.zip"
6. Select "Install GoogleNowforICSInstaller_v1.0.zip"
Once the installer is up, the rest should be self explanatory, if not just follow the prompts.
I hope this helps someone.

I havent been following google now lately, but it seems that you're using stock rooted ics on evo where this works. is this also true for touchwiz phones?
will it work on stock rooted samsung?
Just checked it out on my HTC EVO 4g LTE running tranquility rls1b and TWRP s-on, works great back and forth. Thanks!

It should work on any ICS phone, but it has only been tested on the phone listed in the 1st post.
jdcasino confirms that it works on his HTC EVO 4g LTE.

yes, but if I remember correctly, touchwiz differs from sense in framework files or something. I have epic 4g touch. can anyone else confirm that google now can work on stock rooted touchwiz phone if /system space wasn't an issue?

Sure, give it a try.
edit: there may be an issue with the Installer not finding the original Google Search apk, someone posted this and basically it states that you may have a some extra characters at the end of the apk.

I don't think it has anything to do with sense or touchwiz, the modified Google Now was modded for AOSP, which doesn't have either, but has worked on HTC and Samsung.

Since it won’t let me post to the forum I thought I would just do it this way. On my Verizon S3 I’m rooted, unlocked, OTA kernel, running a stockish rom (cleanrom) and CMW 6.0.1.2. The installer said it worked but it broke Google search. In the installer it said everything was fine but nope. I went to do the restore and it said it couldn’t find the backup so I went with the one provided and that worked fine. When setting up I chose the first one which I think was v7 for arm7. If I chose wrong I’ll try again but otherwise I’ll just wait for an updated version. Unlike others I’m in no hurry and was just testing it out on my phone. If you want more info I can try to install it again and try to provide whatever you might need or want.

What do you mean by it broke Google Search (what were the indications that it did not work)?
When you restored did Google Search work again?
Check if you hae the follow "GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk" in your "/system/app"
Are there other files with this same name?

How much space does it state that you have free in the /system directory?
It would seem that you don't have enough space in your /system directory of your internal memory.
One thing to try to see if this is the case, when you do it manually, don't modify or add any files to /system/usr/srec/ directory
larva_pro said:
if i go to settings>storage its says
Device memory: Total 1.97GB ; available 1.3GB.
i did installed manually with out changing nothing on the /system/usr/srec . and im able to opent he register of google now.. as soon i click im'in

To get the total /system directory size you need to run the following command in a program like "Terminal Emulator" or "aShell":

Yes I have that GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk in /system/app and yes it is without the _usa after it. On the line under it it has the odex version. Then the Google search widget apk and odex. It is this way with before and after I try to install.
Just tried it again choosing mikeyxda v7 it says created backup ok and return status 0. Google now installed return status 0 once the phone boots up it says “unfortunately, Google search has stopped”. I also get that message no matter how i try to search or tap on the google app it puts on it. Double checked the permissions from the main thread and all permissions are set right, if that helps. Went to restore and it says I never backed it up but I can use the generic one which I select and get again return status 0 for everything and once the phone comes back up Google search works just fine again. Hope this helps.

That's good to know. I see that the problem has to do with your system being odexed.
The reason it FCs is because when replacing the Google Search apk there is no matching modified odex.
This is modified for deodexed roms.
Check on this thread and ask about a modified odexed velvet.apk and velvet.odex

I'm using GN on an odexed ICS ROM, no problems. Just had to delete the *.odex files for the apk's that the installer replaces.
