I hope my last couple hours of searching were not pointless...but...
I am using an AT&T captivate.
I have cog 3.01, and I tried speedmod with JK4 modem. I thought it was neat, but I really want to have BT call capability. I managed to get the i897UCJI6 modem back. How do I get rid of the speedmod kernel?
I don't have a PC nearby, is there a CWM .zip for the kernel that will get my BT calls back?
Thanks alot!
Edit: I found a reply about using the Zimage from the cognition.zip

Well, here goes.
I've been reading alot for quite a while, and learning everything I could around this place. Thanks to tall who contribute.
I'm running NScollab, 1.0.42, with matrix 8.0 kernel.
Currently on the XXKB3 baseband.
Following this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884
I tried flashing the new KF1 radio for the nexus S. No luck. Either is doesn't flash at all ( status 6 error ) or when it does ( the signed version can be flashed in CWM ) no signal whatsoever. I've tried everything, changing the band, ( *#*#4636#*#* ) rebooting 45 times, dalvik wipe, changing type of radio, all guides, searched google, this website ( for a whole week ).
Nothing came up.
I'm posting, because this is pretty much last resort. I actually tried the KF1 radio on Miui, devnull, oxygen, and NScollab.
Telus users out there, what is your baseband ? What radio gives you the best signal and performance ? I know koodo switched to KF1, but I can't get it to work on my NS.
Any help is appreciated !
still noone ?
Darn.

I use KB3 for koodo(telus). I get signal... and it works.
I'm curious as to whether KF1 would be a better radio for us, or if it even works for Telus/Koodo. Anybody know?

I have a Telus Nexus S in BC and I just installed an OTA update to 2.3.6 / GRK39F / I9020AUCKF1 and the KF1 radio seems to be working fine. I've been able to call around and MMS without issues so far. (about 2 hrs) Not enough time spent with it to tell you if it gets better reception or not...
I acutally installed the OTA pacakage in order to go back to stock as I was getting sick of the Search Bug that has been plaguing my phone for ages and I was going to bring it back for warranty work, but it appears the flash of the radio to KF1 that was included in the package has resolved the Search Bug!
Sweet! So, I might stick with this for a bit to confirm it is gone and and if all is well, I guess there's no need to return the phone for service!
I have the same issue on koodo. Flashed ICS and I get reception with KF1 downtown but barely anything at home and it used to be great.
I'm running the UCKF1 radio on my telus NS, on cm9 + matrix 14.5. With my phone, it was impossible to flash the radio with CWM, it would flash, but could not get on the network. I had to use fastboot to flash the radio.
In my experience, XXKB3 and XXKD1 were definitely the fastest radios (no upload cap), but my connection was unstable, needing occasional reboots to reestablish connection if I ever lost reception. UCKF1 has been rock solid for me. (I'm in the Toronto area)
Also, for some reason I only started getting the search bug with ICS and XXKD1, but UCKF1 fixed that.

Ok..I always try to figure it out by searching the forums...could not get there this time. I had Humbles rom on the phone...then I realized I should update my Baseband...so the mission starts.. I started on Basband ep3 on both the first and second lines..after reading it sounded like I needed to flash back to stock to get the update to ee4....I first deactivated voodo by adding the file directly ...reset phone then waited while the sexy voice said it was deactivated... then I flashed the stock rom...when I powered up the the phone on stock ...it did download the update...while installing the update it crashes and does not install correctly...so after messing around I re-flashed the stock rom and then downloaded the update again.....same thing happened.....then after reading some more I thought maybe my partitions where jacked so I flashed charge.pit ...now my phone wouldn't even show signs of life...stressing a bit ....I was able to flash Hummble 4.0 which brought my phone back to life...happy that it is working I'm now back where I originally started but now I'm on Ep1...even worse than before I started..lol
Does anyone have any ideas why it would not update? any help would be great!
Ep3 is the newest radio version. Ep1 is the second newest. And ee4 is the oldest. So you were really trying to unupdate. You are fine with the ep1 modems. But if you want to upgrade flash the ep3h radios through Odin.

Yep
I'm confused....thanks for the clarification.... I thought I had to go to stock to get any updates...whats with all the posts talking about that?
any quick link to where I could download the ep3 for odin? much appreciated

Here ya go - EP3 Modem
The only reason you ever need to go back to stock is if you want to "unroot" your phone or to fix soft bricks. The baseband version corrosponds to the type of radios your phone is running (how you get your signal). And the radios are always independent of your ROM. Here's a short overview of the different radios from beginning to present.
ED1: Original charge modem. (sucked).
ED2: still sucks.
EE4: Latest official update for the droid charge. This is the radio that most Froyo Roms are based off of.
<I'm going to skip over a few because they are kind of non-existant now>
EP1Q: A leaked Gingerbread Radio. Significant improvements in signal strength.
EP1W: Improves upon EP1Q radio by handling data switching better. (A lot of Gingerbread ROMS are based off of this radio).
EP3H: The newest radio and probably the best. Some small improvements in data switching and got rid of occasional "popping" sounds from EP1W radio. Most of the newest ROMS use this radio as a base (Meaning they are optimized to use this radio).
Long story short, use the latest Radios. They always bring improvements. =)
Reflashed my wifes SGS4G last night, running Valhalla 1.3.2 with KJ1 voodoo kernel and KJ6 modem....phone doesn't register SIM card. Removed, waited, powered off etc..phone would not see it, swapped it into my phone and worked great. Tried my SIM on her phone, no dice.
Reflashed again, starting from KG4 this time. Flashed Valhalla, rebooted, voodoo, and SIM reads fine. Figured it was fixed, flashed KJ6 modem and SIM Card disappears again. Flashed various other modems and could not get it to come back. Reflashed Valhalla and honks KJ1 a third time, enabled voodoo and called it a night...SIM is reading fine.
I have the exact same setup on my phone, Valhalla, honks Kj1 and KJ6 modem and I have no issues. Has anyone experienced something similar or know the cause? I want to get KJ6 on there are the signal strength is stronger throughout our house than previous radios, but flashing the same rom 3 times in a day is my limit...
Note: I am already factory reseting / wipe / fixing permissions etc...
Thanks in advance guys.
Have you verified the modem file you downloaded isn't corrupt? If so:
Flash it back to Valhalla in a working state
Start incrementing the modem file (KJ2, KJ3, etc) and see if the problem manifests in a modem other than just KJ6
If it's still happening, I'd be curious to know if her phone has the same problem if you flash the stock KJ6 ROM. If not, throw drhonk's KJ1 on there. If the problem is still not there, then enable voodoo.
I'm just trying to think of things to try. That's definitely interesting to me.

Yeah, the file is good. It's the same one I flashed to my phone, I even copied her copy back to my phone and flashed my phone with it and it works fine.
I was planning on trying the other modems but wanted to check with the community prior to doing so. Like I said, I only have the patience to reflash a rom so many times in a day. I don't think it's Valhalla, I've been running that Rom on both phones since it came out at the end of August and it's been bulletproof for me - best Rom out there IMHO - thanks Whitehawkx. Maybe I'll flash airfluips ASOP at the weekend and see if it persists.
Thanks for the input.

Sorry I can't be of more help, man. It's definitely an odd problem.
Did you ever resolve this? I've been suffering a "SIM Card Removed" error that won't go away, that has arisen in conjunction with fixing a calendar sync issue - I can restore an earlier system backup and the SIM issue goes away (but then I have the calendar sync issue back)...
Looking over the ROMs I notice they seem to always say.
Flash radio
Flash ROM
Why the extra step? Last time I flashed custom ROMs and it has been awhile because ..... I am waiting and waiting for ICS, we used to have one zip file and it contained both.

because there are many different radios ....some work better for others .....to prevent a ril mismatch. u flash the modem. then the rom ......the rom flash will replace the ril. of the modem. so say if u want to use a kj2 modem on a ucla3 rom. well the ucla3 rom with a kj2 modem flash over it would yield a ucla rom. with kj2 modem. and kj2 ril. which may cause wacky data issues..........however if u flash modem first.....then flash rom you will have the base band you just flashed ..but your rom flash will give u the proper ril...
i can not guarantee the mismatch would always cause data issues. however with ucla3 modem it does and has been verified. numerous time.......ucla3 modem needs ucla 3 ril
but if your going to use a ucla3 modem and rom.........u may flash the modem first..if your not currently on ucla3 base band.......as long as you know for sure that said rom has proper ril.
---------- Post added at 08:25 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:17 AM ----------
theres a really cool rom called SILVER_ROM_STI you should check out......and a version that flashes the new ucla3 modem with the rom is being uploaded
ok, so what i get is to flash radio, then rom, so that the RIL from the rom is applied. but what is RIL? i'm using a skyrocket on tmobile network and want to use tmobile roms for the wifi calling feature.
in my scenario, what is the best procedure? i do not understand what RIL is and what it does and what it needs to be compatible with.
what i think is the best course is this, please correct me if i am wrong:
flash tmobile radio
flash tmobile rom
flash skyrocket kernel (is this necessary?)
again , i am using the skyrocket on tmobile network and i want to use tmobile roms for wifi calling. i would also like to be able to access tmobile networks at full speed.
thanks!
RIL is radio interface library, its kinda how your rom and radio talk. The method use just described should work, if you loose datacafter flashing the rom just flash the modem again.

data has been weird lately. speedtest is all over the place and typically doesn't go over 500kbps, but i have no issues browing web or streaming music.. i was attributing this issue to the one that is similar to samsung note users, but they have been patching tmobile radios to be used with the note.. im wondering if radios should be patched for the skyrocket
fyi, i do not know what they are patching.
Is it possible to flash the Blaze 4g radio found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1572198
Then flash a rom over it to rewrite the RIL, and see if it works for the i727, or will it brick it?
I'm on T-mobile btw, and still trying to find a good combo. Can't get over 600 kbps DL and over 30 kbps UL

can you provide more information? what rom are you using? i am currently running the blaze radio you mentioned with tmobile tuesday rom with i727 faux kernel. it works. are you sure your speeds are not linked to your location? for instance, at my desk, i see speeds like you... but when i walk away like 50 feet, i get 3mbps.. go figure.
I have tried many combos:
ROM: Juggernaut 5.0, sky-ics
Kernel: faux 9m&u ,10&u
Radio: KID, VLK1, KJ3, LB7 (Blaze)
APN: wap, epc, internet2/3
Isolated 2g and 3g/4g
Everything performed similarly. Right now I'm on Juggernaut 5, faux 10u, and any radio.
I just received it yesterday and I have only been using it at my house so it could be location based.
What I found interesting was when I'm on a phone call and I use the internet, it runs where it should be around 2mb-4mb DL but upload is still weak at 100 kbps UL. Tried it multiple times on different radios, so it doesn't seem to be an isolated incident. Any reason why this is happening?

i wish i knew, but our problems seem in line with that of samsung note users on tmobile. at the end of the day though, it's just a speed test. i have not had problems streaming music (except 8tracks), so all is good enough for me, at the moment..
So i was on 4.4 odexed rom, and flashed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...t/kernel-chronickernel-uv-gpu-cpu-oc-t2806430 (an Ne5 kernel)
And stupidly never banked up my modem, well after i flashed this awesome kernel i lost my modem/baseband for one reason or another and don't have any connectivity but bluetooth and wifi which is weird cuz no modem on my gs3 ment no blutooth, wifi, calls, basically nothing but hopefully you guys can help me.

Here is the tar for NK4 modem. You must use Odin from a PC. You can't successfully flash a modem in recovery. Make sure you go into Download mode from a complete shutdown.
