Is there a way to remap the Bing search button (when it opens Bing to search in WM7 "HD2 Rom") to be the stock {SEARCH} button (The functionality that actually lets you search inside your music folder in Zune, Help you sort out 1 (one) name from all my (300) Facebook contacts (People Icon).
I would of found this functionality to make more sense than to have the Bing come up (i don't use it, i could just open Internet Explorer and get it over with)
No and doubt Microsoft would allow it.

is there and app that can use google maps to show my location and get my coordinates and still be able to insert coordinates ...and other options like record tracks ...it would be very helpfull when going fishing thanks
Look for one of any Geocaching applications, tracking programs, etc.. You clearly haven't even looked in the Market yet.
Be aware that actively tracking takes a lot of battery. If you're just looking for "where did I start" you could launch it before you hit the dock, drop a waypoint, then when you're coming back in navigate back to that point. Even a "where is my car" app would work for that.
i searched everywhere the best i could find is mymapseditor
Google My Tracks combined with Gmaps and Google Map Editor. Awesome.

Look again. Like I said in the first post, any geocaching program will do it. You said "place a point on a map" and I assume you also want to navigate back to it, but regardless, ANY geocaching program will do that. Among many others, including "where is my car" type apps. And NO they do not require creating GPX.
Good grief.
Since im not a big fan of bing and the app is useless for search results in my country, i dont like the search button at all and it annoys me when I accidently press it and a useless picture with a textbox comes up... now that this problem is solved with the instant start hack its less of a big deal.
However it would be much nicer if we could map this searchbutton to a contactlist search, like when in the people hub hitting search. Having this same action on the main page. Idk if this is possible, since it is possible to tap into the browser search button, maybe it is possible to change the action for the homepage, or something else.
Anybody an idea?
would like to remap that button, too.
For now I just deleted that button, by removing websearch.exe in /windows/ . should be possible to copy another file to that location

Cool, however I have samsung and cant acces the file explorer. Do you know if there is a link to that file specified in the registry? So we could just modifie that link and see what it does.

Does disabling it on the home screen impact the button's functionality in it's other uses, such as search within Marketplace?

I have no idea, but for us the whole bing thing is useless so i never use it. Have to navigate to google.com to get the results i want to have. However to call somebody it would be really useful to have it working as people search. I dont mind if this behaviour is universal.
However i hope we will have a fully functional taskmanager soon which will override the bing app
after (how long? a year or so) the "hidden in menus" feature of the Android Market, used to hide old phones from the install list, seems to be working
shock horror! get in there before it stops working again, maybe if we set it now it will "keep" the settings
it still doesn't work in the "orders" tab and shows every single app i had once installed on old devices, but whatever
Where do you access this on the market?

Might want to point out this is the web interface you are talking about, your obvious isn't always obvious to the world...
i said Android Market, not market app
I've hidden my old phones several times, but they keep coming back on their own. I don't know what triggers the change.
Android Market could mean both the app and the web interface. In general everyone understands Android Market to be the phone app. You should specify if it is the web interface.

Google needs to fix the option menu.
They've got to add a way to delete old phones from the list.
Sick of having to hide the old phones from the menu, just to have it come back, having to redo the list again.

sorry to be pedantic but, Android Market - capital A capital M - only refers to the web interface...the Market app is simply called Market...though i understand that that would not be evident to everyone, it is not for us to know what everyone else would assume in order to cover for it...but now you know and i know and we all know, so it's sweet!

Me too!
But I'm glad that Google let my Viewsonic G-tab with Flashback back *on* the list.

i just renamed my old phones "old" so even if it reappeared in the menus, i knew which was current LOL
Is it just me and my cheap computers/phones, or have the search buttons disappeared on the xda forums? I used to be able to search forums and threads, and now I can't find the search button. have they changed, or am I just going crazy?
Nope, not you hardware, can't find them to
This is annoying as hell! Where is the search.
And please dont reply with a "use the search" standard reply.

Try to use the xda 2010 theme, when I use xda classsic I don't see a search bar
Sent from my HTC_A510c using XDA App
I have tried using both the classic and 2010 themes and both do not have the search button. Is there any work around for searching the forums?
I know you can use google to search specific sites by typing "site:gizmodo.com" into the search box. This method would search only web pages on gizmodo.com or whatever you typed in there. Does anyone know how well that method would work for find specific information in posts?
I really can not believe that xda would just remove the search feature...
Tested the "site:gizmodo.com" search method and it was not a very good tool for trying to dig up specific posts/replies. I hope they get the search button back soon, god knows I could use it.

This has happened on this site before, so I think they just need to wake up the same admin who fixed it last time...?
I opened this thread because I did not find any relevant information about google now in the other threads.
I realized that Google Now in Nexus S does not have the same answers with cards, as in the Galaxy Nexus.
Do you know why? have you noticed other differences?
Make sure you have "Search on Google.com" enabled in Google now ->Settings -> Privacy and Accounts, since the Knowledge graph which powers it is more or less limited to Google.com at the moment.
My problem with Google Now is limited to voice search. Besides the ocassional slow start up, it seems the graphics/UI/animation have trouble keeping up with the audio (chime, audio input, audio output), which hurts when it activates a voice action but you can't see the card to check if it's right or not. Does everybody else get this?
I already have google.com enable but I was never able to get any card.
I tried several examples that work with GNexus
Did you get a card using voice search?
In my Nexus S I also noticed the slow start up.
Does anyone know if it's possible to make a home screen shortcut to google now? I use ADW EX for a launcher and it doesn't have the option yet in the Swipe Up setting to launch google now, but if there's a way to make a shortcut, you can set swipe up to launch an app or shortcut.
Also, I can't seem to setup the sports cards. I follow Formula 1 in the summer, but also NBA summer leagues, but I can't setup the sports cards to give me any information at all on these things.

No need, in Jelly Bean the Search button is permanently mapped to Google now system wide (you can't use it for app specific search anymore). If you still want a shortcut, just make a shortcut to the Google app. Google app = Google now.
So...egg on my face. Hit the "search" capacitive button and it went straight to google now. Embarrassed.
Now, about those sports teams....I read an article that teams you search for in Google are enabled in the "edit teams" option, which is currently greyed out for me. Anybody get this option enabled? I've tried many things and it's not working for me.

Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788719
Enables you to use the search button and make a typing search instead of voice search, but the best part is the microphone in the widget still works if you want.
So click the search button brings typing even if voice is activated. 2 in 1
Enjoy

You have to set the phone to English as system language to get it working correctly. In Swedish or other languages it only does a voice search..

Summer leagues are not official, so they won't show up as cards. When the season starts cards will show up.

Hey I can't get any cards up other then the weather card. I don't know if it's just me but the voice searching/commands kinda suck. And there was another guy that said that his "edit teams" in the sports card section is grayed out, this is true with me also. Won't even let me click anything in any sport; anyone know how to fix that?

I know that it was a helpful tool to tell you traffic details and reminders and **** like that... But i thought it was a giant voice searching engine as well... But i guess it doesnt help at all when you dont have data  now you can ask "why the **** do you have an android with no data" LOL
Google Now is just another gimmick which I have turned off to try and help the terrible battery life.
