Milestone overclock now available on Froyo - Defy Android Development

YAY!
Here's a fresh BETA (so use on your own risk!) of the Milestone Overclock project, now supporting ME525, aka a Defy running Froyo. Thanks a million to the folks at the MO project, buy them a beer or something!

You need it to go even higher with the MHz or, and that is really important, to adjust the maximum voltage. I don't like the feelin of not knowing how high the voltage is set ;-) Download the beta and set it to 1000MHz and 56 vsel. That worked fine for me...
Edit: Btw... thanks for the beta

I've heard of 1350mhz at 76vsel...

i've made the same on my Gefore GTX460 under voltage which keep the card quiet and cool
Else, its fine on mine 2.21 @ 1.2Ghz 0.76... played 3 races of NFS (3D) without any problem... got my Defy yesterday

Sadly no
The app starts now, but crashes after applying the same settings I used with setcpu and milestone overclock. Then it locks itself at the lowest setting and removes all the other profiles:

The highest I've gotten mine was 1250 with 80 vsel. Any frequency after that only makes the device completely slow and unusable. So I think it may be a hardware limitation - which would explain the variance in maximum clocks from device to device.

alright guys.. can someone confirm this for me??? with this mod you cannot get in to recovery mode. it switched the keymap on reboot.
No problem getting into recovery via Volume-/+ and Power with this mod. Still works fine.
Yeah I can still get to recovery through quick boot and with buttons.
If you had an improvement, did you run the other fugu before? I'm also thinking about mixing up the original and mine to see how that changes things.

I was getting consistent 1790's @ 1ghz and 2110-2118 @ 1.5ghz with the other fugu files. I picked up a little according to quadrant (10-20 depending on the OC) but overall use of the phone is where it shows. The phone was really smooth and snappy before the gb fugu files, but there was a little improvement that was noticeable to me. Either way, this thing screams for a stock rom with tweaks.
I look forward to a deodexed GB ROM and a OC kernel for it also.
How to flash this fiel anyone?
You can't flash these, you'll have to push them both manually to /system/bin then reboot.
Backup you current app_process and system_server files first.

do other roms offer this feature?
Sweet... another ROM Dev!
The biggest props right now go to Roach's Kernel, Blades and co haven't had a source release since August, I dont know what Roach has had over them during the interm time, but it seems to be pretty damn decent if i say so myself... Oh, and the TF201 (Transformer Prime) Kernel Source is out, so hopefully someone will tear it down and see what can be ported over to our TF101 (Transformer)!
And speaking of Roach's Kernel (which sadly lacks UV aka Undervolding to save power), look into the dual core optimized OC daemon and OC Daemon control panel! Best low level OC tool ever... Talk about Mhz speed scaling!
EDIT: yes, most other ROM's support GPU UI Acceleration

The reason why overclock doesn't work properly, is because the "userinit.sh" script located in "/data/local" is not running on boot.
I have to add another script to "/system/etc/init.d" in order to enable it.

nope.. simply it only changes some values of the original pegasusQ governor, overclock is a feature of the modded kernel witch has the correct code in its modules
so, no modules no oc
btw, 4 cores at 1.6ghz is not a common situation, so, an overclock could only increase the consuption since 1 core goes to an OC value witch is to high..
you have to know, more is the freq, more and more is the power consuption
a simply ex, 1 dualcore at X freq absorbs less energy than 1 core at 2X freq.. but, the real teorical computation power is the same..
multithreading is to prevent high battery drain caused by too high freqs
Any feedback?

I never saw unstable power while charging.. maybe you have some issues with cable..
anyway only kernel mod can change modules, so, only kernel mod could do what you would
It's only a setting
i have a problem with my note 2... extremly slow charging...
i try a lot of solution....
the only that work probly is to use moded kernel and use stweak or any other control kernel app for ignore unstable power

Yup if those have stock governors
@iba21, testing on Phoenix stock kernel with pegasusq governor. Think you've done a great job.
Regards.

Undervolting our Note 3:

I think that could be a good idea to post the lower voltages that are stable for our devices.
And post the CPU bin for see how much it affects the voltages.
Binning info can be found at /d/acpuclk/pvs_bin
PD: I can't post mine yet...

Is CPU bin how they distinguish between defect concentrations?

No, depending of the binning your CPU has a different voltage values.

That looks seriously undervolted, I've never heard of a microprocessor operating in the .7V range! Whats your bin number?
Also, what frequency are you stable at 1.4V? Based on this table you should be able to break 3GHz!

I have bin 3.
2,5 GHz and 2'7 GHz aren't tested at that voltage, so don't pay attention on it.

Alrighty. And remember every core will have a slightly different stable frequency so make sure to test all 4
My major in college was Computer Engineering with a concentration on Semiconductor Devices, so I really enjoy seeing the stuff I studied in real world applications.

And I really enjoy reading such interesting information
I test the stability with an app that force all the cores with a hard load, so I think it is fine.
If you want to try undervolting just install a custom kernel and have fun x'D
What is your bin ?
PD: I have posted the same thread in the T-Movile Note 3, where there are more people participating... If you are interested.

My bin is 2.
I'm going to wait a little while before tripping Knox just in case I find some serious manufacturer defect.
Sweet! I'll head over there.

I am from Europe so I don't really care abour the warranty.
We will enjoy your company x'D
Also runnig at .7V (-75 MPU) with the ABYSS Kernel (only I could find), and it seems to be running smooth, did some stability tests.
My Note 3 has a pvs_bin of 4.
are you guys using Trickster with stock kernel/rom?

-75mv in all the frecuencys is pretty awesome, if you want to try another kernel go to original android development of the t-movile note 3.

Stock kernel doesn't allow undervolting.

/d/acpuclk/pvs_bin is missing?
If you are on Kitkat navigate to /sys/devices/system/soc/soc0/soc_pvs with root explorer and open that with the text viewer.
If you are on JB still it is located at /d/acpuclk/pvs_bin
Because these threads come up as the first Google results for checking cpu bin of a note 3, here's some updated information (had to dig forever)
