[Q] USB to PC not recognized after installed Vegan-Tab 5.1 - G Tablet General

hi, I just installed Vegan-Tab 5.1 and i tried to connect the USB to my computers (windows vista/xp) neither of them recognizes the removable disk. gtablet shows USB connected, and on my PC it asked for installing Nvidia Harmony driver, i dont have one so the system failed to install it. Then drive E: shows up, but when i click it it shows "please insert a disk into removable disk E:".
When i had the original TNT ROM although it prompted for install Nvidia Harmony but i can still access E:.
Please help.

Well I think you need to turn on USB storage on the tablet
Drag notification bar down and select files to copy to/from computer
Then enable USB storage

I just installed the same rom and am having the same problem. Can't find a way to get my computer to see the usb, it shows up, but asks for disc.

I'm also having the same issue, PC won't "see" the tablet
also USB thumb drives are not recognized anymore

Missing USB Flash
I'm having the same problem running Vegan 5.11 and it can't see a flash drive plugged into it.

No prompt comes up when PC is connect to device.....
Plug in USB................... nothing happens
Also, I noticed that when a SD Card is inserted, the text under >settings>SD Card & Device storage> READS "unmount in progress" after you mount the SDCARD

Now it's working

Went into CWM and mounted the USB drive, rebooted, and now it works fine?

Also, when I am in ES file explorer and I am navigated to the /sdcard
it reads ""sdcard unmounted or not present"

got it all figured out......

Still not seeing the flash
Does connect through the mini USB to the internal SD storage...
Anyone know id there's any docs for the Vegan system?

I'm having the same problem with the unmount in progress. Can you please tell me how you figured it out? I've done everything including nvflash, CWM, to start fresh and I still am making no progress.
Thanks

I had the same problem. Here is what worked for me.
1. Plug in your USB.
2. You should see the USB icon show up on the top left taskbar.
3. Swipe that taskbar downwards.
4. Click on "USB connected"
5. Click on the "Turn on USB Storage" icon on the bottom right of the screen.
6. Click "OK"
Your drive letter should be mapped on your PC, you should be able to drag and drop files. When you are done, just click the "Turn off USB Storage" icon. You can now disconnect your USB cable.
Hope that helps.

Thank you so much. This is simple once you know it, but I was completely stumped. Am still getting used to the UI.

Thanks! Saved me a lot of possible pain.

Thank you very much!!! Iwas in the same fix!

That posting is really helpful (sarcasm). How did you get it figured out?

I'm having the same problem and I'm not getting the USB connected symbol or any other notification from the tablet that the PC is connected.
I'm running CM with the clemsyn kernel 2.6.32.9.

[Q] Installed USB drivers, but system doesn't see the phone.

The phone is working fine, the port is fine, the cord is fine.
I installed the x64 Captivate USB drivers on my x64 system, and when I hook up the phone it sees the phone, but I can't use it as a "mass storage" device and copy things to it. Any help?

Same happened to me. Try using the x32 drivers.
Worked, I'm on Froyo now, thanks!
Nevermind, I see you got it fixed.
This might be a stupid suggestion but did you Mount the drives? You have to mount the drives before Windows sees them. It will see the phone but not the drives. To mount just pull down the notification area from the top and tap on "USB Connected" then tap "Mount". Not sure if you tried that yet but that's the first thing you need to do after the USB connection is made.

debugging allows adb to work.
You need to turn on usb storage on your tablet for your computer to see it.
How do i do that?
I have cyanogenmod installed in it
It should be in the notification area on your tablet every time you plug your computer into your tablet. "USB connected. Select to copy files to/from your computer"
select it and then press the button "Turn on USB storage"
When you are done then press "Turn off USB storage"
Thats what i thought but theres nothing there??????

I installed cm6.2 beta last night and I think it mounts the sdcards differently than any of the other roms. Be aware there are some differences in this rom but the usb mount is universal
So what do i do? I got noting here, is ther something in the setting i have to change?
If you have clockwork recovery installed then boot into clockwork recovery. (if not then install clockwork recovery 0.8)
Plug tab into computer with USB cable
Go into "mounts and storage"
"mount USB storage"
Don't know if it makes a difference but I only use the mini usb port on the tab.
I didn't have cm 6.2 installed long because it still has all the 3g stuff on it but it seemed to me it was seeing my external sdcard (sdcard2) as my internal sdcard (sdcard). You could try putting the update.zip on a micro sdcard and putting that in the tab and then seeing if clockwork sees it to install
Did that and still nothing
Any other ideas?

Problem with ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.2.4 (USB Not Recognnized)

I wiped and cleared everything (cache, SD Card...) from the settings in order to install the new Ice Cream rom which I got working but then wanted to clean everything up. So obviously after doing the formats, it also wiped the zip (icecream). I can access clock work recovery, but it doesn't recognize my USB at all, same machine and cable is fine. I am trying to do it as a USB Mass Storage device but still it cannot recognize it. Any help would me much appreciated.

I'm not sure if you mean SD storage and not USB but you should have never formatted your SD storage.
In clockworkmod recovery there is an option to mount the SD storage. Make sure its mounted and then try activating the USB storage again. This should give you the ability to add a ROM zip file on the SD storage so you can flash it.
Thanks for the reply. Basically I am in clockwork recovery mode, I mount the SDCARD, then I go and select the option "mount USB storage". Sometimes I find that it finds Android 1.0 and I see the I: come up but then goes away quite quickly. But most of the time it comes up as unrecognized.
Now I have 2 cables, both which charge the phone fine. I have used one on a BlackBerry and remember it does the job of connecting as a data connection fine. Also have tried my XP laptop, same result.
My feeling is that it may possibly be the actual USB port on the phone that is the problem but I am unsure in this. It never failed to connect when the phone was working properly (in an actual OS).
You should update your CWM... 5.0.2.0 is the latest version.
But anyway, you don't need to mount SD card then mount USB storage. Only need to do the latest. Once you do this, unplug and replug the phone, the drive should pop up.

When I go into clock work recovery it says USB device Unrecognized. Problem is I don't have anything on the SD I have the ROM on my computer. Whether I go to the mount USB storage menu or not. Unsure what to do?

I imagine you don't have a working adb setup on your computer to update CWM, right?
Boot into CWM with phone plugged in. Go to mount USB storage. If your "SD" isn't recognized, still on that screen, unplug and replug phone. It should get detected then.
Tried this several times keep getting Unknown Device. I installed the SDK with Google Drivers. Unsure if that is the ADB set up.

Yes that's the adb setup.
You might need to manually install the drivers for your phone, although this shouldn't impact on the SD mounting capabilities. Just to make sure, I would get a working adb setup and use fastboot to update your Clockworkmod Recovery to 5.0.2.0.
You can follow this to know how to use fastboot

If you have trouble getting your phone to be detected and the drivers installed, I suggest you use PDAnet drivers instead (if you're under Windows). Some phones for some reason need .inf driver hacking to get detected.

I will give this a go many thanks.

Just to let you know, I am trying to access USB Storage from clockwork recovery since I don't have any rom on here at all.
This may sound weird but I held the USB in the phone port in an angle, luckily the removable drive came up. I got the the ROM on the SD it has installed and loading. I'll see if its an issue with the USB on the phone later on but as long as it got back up and running (Ice Cream) for now.
Anyway thanks guys much appreciated. I'll be a lot more careful next time before I go around wiping everything especially the SD LOL.

I gathered this much from your posts.
Edit: Glad you got it working. Make sure you get CWM updated whenever you can if you haven't done so, this could lead to problems down the road to flash different zips.

The Nexus S is a difficult phone to brick, luckily. Most of the rooting, bootloader unlocking and flashing steps are easy to follow too.
No problem!

TWRP 2.5.0.0 and mount USB storage

Most of the times when I select USB storage in TWRP 2.5.0.0, nothing happens. The drive doesn't show up and nor does the USB attachment icon in the notification area of my PC. Works fine on other versions though. Any ideas?

I'd be more inclined to try another PC. Maybe some driver you installed is causing issues. When you mount your phone, go into your device manager and try deleting any phone devices or storage that appear, then reconnect and maybe it will install the correct driver.

Maybe he could also try using a toolkit?

Tried reflashing. In fact it even happened before I had my phone's motherboard replaced. Only on 2.5.0.0, regardless of which PC I use. Other versions of TWRP work fine.

Somehow CWM/TWRP recoveries were always fu*** up for me when it comes to USB connection ... Theoretically it depends on your PC drivers when its not working and you got the newest version of TWRP.
I cannot access files via usb storage in twrp, an unknown device appears in device manager on pc it named "One S" but it's unknown and nowhere to find a f**in driver for it... I cannot install ANY os on the phone now and I'm feeling very stupid. OTG doesn't work I cannot tick USB OTG in Mount menu, what a damn phone..............

Did you try another computer?
That happens to me if I have the phone locked when I plug it in. As soon as I unlock the phone the internal storage pops up. If that isn't what is happening to you then I don't know what the problem is.
i suggest u to try AirDroid instead. It seams wireless without needing usb cord.
