I wiped and cleared everything (cache, SD Card...) from the settings in order to install the new Ice Cream rom which I got working but then wanted to clean everything up. So obviously after doing the formats, it also wiped the zip (icecream). I can access clock work recovery, but it doesn't recognize my USB at all, same machine and cable is fine. I am trying to do it as a USB Mass Storage device but still it cannot recognize it. Any help would me much appreciated.

I'm not sure if you mean SD storage and not USB but you should have never formatted your SD storage.
In clockworkmod recovery there is an option to mount the SD storage. Make sure its mounted and then try activating the USB storage again. This should give you the ability to add a ROM zip file on the SD storage so you can flash it.
Thanks for the reply. Basically I am in clockwork recovery mode, I mount the SDCARD, then I go and select the option "mount USB storage". Sometimes I find that it finds Android 1.0 and I see the I: come up but then goes away quite quickly. But most of the time it comes up as unrecognized.
Now I have 2 cables, both which charge the phone fine. I have used one on a BlackBerry and remember it does the job of connecting as a data connection fine. Also have tried my XP laptop, same result.
My feeling is that it may possibly be the actual USB port on the phone that is the problem but I am unsure in this. It never failed to connect when the phone was working properly (in an actual OS).
You should update your CWM... 5.0.2.0 is the latest version.
But anyway, you don't need to mount SD card then mount USB storage. Only need to do the latest. Once you do this, unplug and replug the phone, the drive should pop up.

When I go into clock work recovery it says USB device Unrecognized. Problem is I don't have anything on the SD I have the ROM on my computer. Whether I go to the mount USB storage menu or not. Unsure what to do?

I imagine you don't have a working adb setup on your computer to update CWM, right?
Boot into CWM with phone plugged in. Go to mount USB storage. If your "SD" isn't recognized, still on that screen, unplug and replug phone. It should get detected then.
Tried this several times keep getting Unknown Device. I installed the SDK with Google Drivers. Unsure if that is the ADB set up.

Yes that's the adb setup.
You might need to manually install the drivers for your phone, although this shouldn't impact on the SD mounting capabilities. Just to make sure, I would get a working adb setup and use fastboot to update your Clockworkmod Recovery to 5.0.2.0.
You can follow this to know how to use fastboot
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Fastboot#Flash_Custom_Recovery.img
If you have trouble getting your phone to be detected and the drivers installed, I suggest you use PDAnet drivers instead (if you're under Windows). Some phones for some reason need .inf driver hacking to get detected.

I will give this a go many thanks.

Just to let you know, I am trying to access USB Storage from clockwork recovery since I don't have any rom on here at all.
This may sound weird but I held the USB in the phone port in an angle, luckily the removable drive came up. I got the the ROM on the SD it has installed and loading. I'll see if its an issue with the USB on the phone later on but as long as it got back up and running (Ice Cream) for now.
Anyway thanks guys much appreciated. I'll be a lot more careful next time before I go around wiping everything especially the SD LOL.

I gathered this much from your posts.
Edit: Glad you got it working. Make sure you get CWM updated whenever you can if you haven't done so, this could lead to problems down the road to flash different zips.

The Nexus S is a difficult phone to brick, luckily. Most of the rooting, bootloader unlocking and flashing steps are easy to follow too.

Got a bit of a problem folks,, hope to get some help...
i have been running TNT lite since i got the tab and was up to 4.1 and started getting the acore force closes. so i followed some threads and installed clockwork and did the partition reformate and wipe data,,,,
now when i reboot, it gets the birds splash, and moves to the G-tablet boot image (i have the dancing droid one) and it hangs,,,,,,, nothing....
any ideal how i "fix this"...
thanks for any help because as you can see i am at a stop!

I had some issues with my first tab similar to what you are having. The only way I solved it was by reflashing and wiping all date, which takes you back to the EULA. Good luck.
Do you have functional recovery? I'm guessing yes since you partitioned. Go to recovery and flash the rom again. You can mount the usb drivers in cwm to start usb mass storage so that you can download the rom on your computer and transfer to tablet. You can also put rom on external sd card and install from cwm.
When you partitioned the storage you deleted everything including the os. I believe it warned you of that before you did it.
If no recovery then you will have to nvflash. Search nvflash and bekit to get the nvflash info.
Matt
Make sure you are using bekits .8 CWM release. The latest release of CWM gave me fits, the only thing that would install was CM 7.
This isn't an Android Development topic, its a General topic, but don't worry about it, a mod will move it.
As to the question, like the others said. Use CWM .08, Wipe System, Wipe Cache, Install zip from SD Card, Install your choice of ROM (in your case, TnT Lite 4.1), Install gApps.zip, Reboot system now. That should get you up and running.
I am confused about you saying that you just now installed CWM but have been running TnT Lite. How would you have done that or do you mean you tried to update CWM or do you mean you have been using the stock TnT?
Also, feel free to hop on the #Tegratab IRC on Freenode if you need fast troubleshooting. Someone is usually on there to help

I "think" i tried this last night. I have 4.1.4 Update.zip and recovery folder on an USB stick. In CW, i went to "mount USB" (thinking i could access my USB and install from there) but ???? i didnt see anything and the only options were install update.zip from SD, and from Location but no USB option, and of course no way (that i saw) to brows to another location to "pick" where i wanted to install from.
Im thinking i am missing something with this step, or just plain old doing it wrong..

I have been installing the Roms, by downloading, taking the two "files" and moving them to my tab, and then rebooting with the power volume up,, ,finds the update and installs the ROM. its worked for all of them since 2.2...i thought i read that was an acceptable means of installing the ROM.????
as far as getting the files onto my SD (now). How? my computer doesnt see the tab because it is just hanging on dancing andy(unless there is anothe way of making it "see it", i cant seem to figure out how to get CW to read from my USB drive.....
Im just plain "stuck".
I am by no means a Android guru, and up to this point havnt had problems in the past... I TRULY am thankful for ANY help and all help i have recieved...
thanks folks

power off the tablet.
hold vol+ then power till u see recovery key pressed in the upper left corner of the screen. it will appear while the birds are still on the screen. If you get to the g tablet screen power off and repeat till u get into cw recovery.
Using volume +/- to navigate up and down Home to select and back to go back one level
Navigate cw recovery till u see mount usb storage i think its under partitions.
when you see usb mounted hook up the usb cable to the computer to the tablet mini usb port. copy the rom of your choice to the tablet. u only need the update.zip
once copied unmount usb storage.
back out till u see apply update.zip
Install and reboot u will be good to go.
of course flash gapps if u know what that is and want market on the tab.
Enjoy.

CW Won't read your USB drive. The "Mount USB" option in CW is to mount your tablet onto your computer as a USB storage device. By doing so, you can push files over to the tablet's internal storage from your computer.

Agree. That is what I was talking about earlier, I just couldn't remember what it was labelled in CWM. Mount the USB to your PC and push over the file. Then in CWM choose install from sdcard (I think, too lazy to look). Navigate to the rom file and run it. All should be well after that.

Update:
Stock update.zip needed!!
or, does those mod update.zip helps too ?
I've had trouble connecting this SGS4G to my PC.
I got it used, the previous owner fomated the SD card.
Is there any files comes with the stock SD card that affects the connection?
I tried hard and soft reset, still the PC said can't recognize it.
I even hand pick the USB driver in update driver option.
It says "Device cannot start (code 10)" something like that
Any advise will be appreicated!
Look for drivers only maybe different bit than your pc
Try just the sd.card in your.computer

+2 I had this issue before.
Thankyou for all the answers, I've used 3 different drivers, 1 from Kies, 1 from that Noob root guide, and one from somewhere i forgot.
I also used 3 different micro usb cable, HTC, MOTO, and samsung.
I went to Tmobile, plug in one of their sgs4g in my laptop, works perfectly, so not my laptop and not my cable.
Then i tested, my phone is not rooted yet with root checker, when I install superuser, it gave me an error msg saying that su binary file has a problem, It disappear before i write it down. and it said it copied that su binary on my sd card and tell me to reboot into recovery mode and install it.
I dont know how, and i guess that means a hard reset? I used that vol up+down and power buttom. Then I clicked reinstall packages, big discovery!
I found out that "E;/fail to open.mnt/internal_d/update.zip(No such file or direstory)
Man.... somehow that update.zip isn't there!!!
Anyone could point me to a place to download it? or simple upload me or send one to me email [email protected]
Again thank you for all the comments!

Have you installed the driver's from Samsung yet?
Additionally, when you plug the USB cord in, what happens on your phone? Do icon's show up, up top? Nothing happens?
Have you tried to go into Settings>Applications>Development and made sure USB Debugging is on?
Now if you have tried a standard SGS4G from the TMO Store on your laptop and it worked, you might have gotten a bad deal buying that one used. Something might be jacked up on it.
Additionally, if it's unmodified which it sounds like it is,
Just go to Settings>Privacy>Factory Data Reset.
That will put you back to the original state.

No icon show up.
Something is missing from the phone, i did the factory reset both soft and reinstall package in Recovery/ delete all user data, still no help.
When i use root checker, it tells me there is no su binary in system/bin
Superuser created one for me to the SD card, but es file explorer wont copy it into system/bin for me, and in recovery mode, it just say no update.zip exist in internal SD

I'm not sure what would have been deleted off the phone to prevent the USB from working on your computer. Either way, you're kinda out of luck if it won't even connect to the computer.
Only other solution would be to download the stock ROM in the form of update.zip from your phones web browser, save to SD, then reboot into recovery and choose the second option.
The reason why update.zip is missing is because you haven't put it on your SD card. You typically download any zipped ROM, rename it to update.zip and then put it in the root of your SD.
Since you can't connect to the computer you'd have to download from a browser.

Very usefull Info!!
I'm downloading that Stock DEODEXED KC1 now. But it's in Mc5
So, i just zip it right?
Luckily I could still take the sd card out and use a card reader to load stuff on it.
Mainly i want the connection to the pc for rooting.
Moreover, the Root checker says i already have Busybox installed, does it mean, the previous owner might have tried to or did rooted, but unroot it ?
That one doesnt work, so I tried another one which it states its completely stock (T959VUVKC1-REV00-ALL-low-CL933594.tar)
But still both turns out "E: signature verification failed"
any idea?
Hi All -
Not a good day for me at all I installed one of the latest Stock Odexed ROM. Then for some reason I wanted to reinstall it so went to Touch v6.0.1.5 recovery and wiped everything without taking nandroid back up as I was 100% sure that I have all my different ROMs in my external card. Then after wiping the device when I went to my external card to install the ROM I found nothing in there !!! Total phone wiped out !!! Now cant even go to Download Mode to install a ROM using odin. Tried adb reboot download but still No luck. Cant go to download mode. May be my USB cable or PC has issues, wont detect my phone right now every time I want to go to download mode it goes to recovery mode. Hence cant install any ROM. Please help !!!
I also installed the Samsung USB driver but still my PC wont detect my phone.
My device is Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket.
You help is highly appreciated.
Thanks.
If you can still access recovery just DL another ROM and flash it. I must be missing something here. Is the phone usable?
Most likely it's the OP that's missing something, being in panic.
OP, get an SD card, load any ROM on it, insert it into your phone, boot to recovery, install ROM, profit.

In both TWRP and CWM recoveries you have "Mount USB storage" option.
Connect your phone to PC with USB cable, use that option, and copy the ROM right on your USB storage.
Or grab a card reader for $1 from eBay To have one just in case. Or use any other phone (family/friends) for copying the ROM on the SD card. So many options...

Thats the only option I see Jack_R1, either buy a card reader or use friends one. I tried Mount USB Storage before but nothing happened. And other issue I have been having for last few weeks is - my PC wont detect my phone, it says unrecognized device or something. So I have been using FTP for transferring ROM and other files to my phone.
But I will try with a card either for now. Hope that helps otherwise will need guidance from expert ppl like you all.
Thanks again. Appreciate for your quick responses.
You said in the OP that you tried adb reboot download. So do you have adb installed? If so have you installed the google drivers?? Here's the link:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html
If you don't have them installed do so. Then type:
Code:
adb devices
You might need to exit SDK manager and reboot your comp before it shows. Also there is a program called usbdeview you can DL to remove any drivers you have installed that might coflict.
Never heard of having recovery but not download.... Sure you don't have a usb cable/connection problem?

Jack_R1 - what is the best way to clean the USB port? I will keep you posted if driver clean up and re-installation helps to detect the phone or not.
Toothpick and gently going over all contacts inside the socket.
Prying up on the prong ever so gently(it really don't take much) with a toothpick worked for me. Although now that I think about it, the toothpick may have just helped clean it ^^^

Upon trying to update my TF101 device to Jelly Bean using this guide (wiki.cyanogenmod.org/index.php?title=Install_CM_for_tf101), at the 6th step of Installing CyanogenMod from recovery (i.e., Select install zip from sdcard) the tab says it's unable to mount the SD card.
The exact error is: E: unable to mount /sdcard/
I have CWM v6.0.1.3 installed.
Now, I'm stuck with a TF101 that isn't detectable via USB (or APX for that matter) running ClockWorkMod without root. What do I do? I'd like to upgrade to JellyBean but if that's an issue, I do not mind sticking with ICS.
Bear in mind that I'm completely new at this and I might need a step-by-step guide.
P.S. - I can't post links. Sorry.
If you boot to ICS and enable USB Debugging in Settings - Developer Options, is your device visible from the PC?
If yes, then I would try using PERI to root and install CWM.
If not, then I would try installing the Hybrid Touch 6.0.1.2 of this recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1855686 Download the file in ICS, place it in the /sdcard/, flash from Recovery and see if it will let you. If you can see your microSD from recovery put it there. Then reboot and you should have a working recovery.
I have seen quite a few people try to use that wiki 6.0.1.3 and have no luck with mounting the /sdcard/

No such luck. Still not able to mount the /sdcard/ and it doesn't seem to recognise the microSD as far as I can see.
Might be a bad USB cable. I have seen a few users (myself included) where my cable would charge, and be recognized by the PC but it would not do APX or ADB. New cable fixed it for me, and most others.

It was working till right after I fell into this rut.
I used mine for ADB, 3 days later I tried it again and no dice. Thought it was the ROM I was on, tried another one, still no dice. Flashed back to stock rooted, still nothing.
New cable, viola!

I'm unable to mount/unmount USB, as in, it doesn't do anything at all. My laptop still doesn't recognise the tab.

Okay, done. I shall let you know in a couple of days.
Ordered a new cable online.
I got a Xoom for free a couple days ago, I decided I wanted to put KitKat on it, I didn't really like how 4.1 looked. I installed ClockworkMod Recovery on it to, but I can't push any files to it using 'adb push 'filename'', this is because adb does not recognize my device. I believe this is because there is no driver installed. In Device Manager it shows up as "Xoom" in the "Other Devices" dropdown. I've downloaded and installed the drivers previously from this link (can't post links because I'm new, the name of the program is Motorola Device Manager ), but while in recovery, they don't seem to work. When I try to run the driver installer while in recovery, it does not install any drivers, and Windows cannot find any drivers. So, any suggestions?
Edit: I booted back to the factory OS and tried installing the driver there through Motorola Device Manager, but it says to switch the device into "Media Device" mode (MTP), which it is already in.

Are you using the correct cable? Have you tried using another USB port?
I'm assuming you have a memory card. So if you had a custom recovery already installed why not pull the SD card out of the xoom and move the files required for custom os onto that directly from computer.

I don't have the factory cable, I believe I have already tried two separate cables though. I have tried front and back USB ports on my PC. I've been trying to do it without a micro SD card, as the only one I have is in my phone. I assume if I use that it would mess up the formatting on my phone though?

No. If you have recovery already loaded, then place the rom of choice on the card insert in xoom and install from SD card. No formatting required on card.

I was worried about my SD card, which is in my phone, getting messed up and not work properly with my phone. I'll probably go ahead and try it and not worry about my phone. I'll let you know how it goes.

Copy all files to computer from SD card to be safe. Then if you do lose something. No worries![emoji16]
