Captivate Users Group? - Captivate General

Any interest in starting a Captivate Users Group or a Samsung Galaxy Site user group? I am in Tampa, Florida but could come to Orlando if necessary. I (and others I am sure) would love to meet DesignGears and some of the people who have helped us.

Sorry but we have DG strapped to a chair, churning out code to get GB working bug free on the cappy. He can't come out to play right now, haha.

I am usually not one to get into arguments but are you really going to start bashing on imnuts? P3Droid used his work without his permission and ended up making some money on the leak using imnuts' recovery.
I know you can argue that you are paying for the TBH app to get the leak early and the hosting charges but in the end it is not right.
You don't have to buy the app in 24 hours it goes public. Second its open source. He doesn't make us pay for his leaks. He gives us an option to get it early. P3droid buys the leaked software. It isn't free. It's hilarious that people think they own open source software. You don't people thanking koush everytime a cwr is released. This is a joke and people should grow up. All this does is hurt the community. All imnuts is doing is putting himself above the community and it's a community of open source.

You are telling people to grow up? You are the one who started this thread...
If you would take a look at both sides twitter accounts even you would see that imnuts is hardly pouting over this, and that p3droid was the one ignoring imnuts' attempts to talk to him about using his file. If p3droid would have responded and not blocked/deleted his posts I bet we would have a leak by now. Seems like a publicity by p3droid, I appreciate the leaks coming from him I even bought the app just to have early access, but this twitter fight of his without even responding to imnuts is bs.
I don't see why he can't release a leak without recovery. We are smart enough to use the CWR imnuts supplied us for free without being spoon fed the exact file from p3droid.
I dont think it's fair for anyone to bash imnuts over this, when if p3droid didnt want this to happen he could have avoided it easily IMO.

So, since it is open source, why can't TBH modify CWR to work with the Charge Themselves?
Oh Wait, because they dont know how....So they took an already altered CWR done by a different and packaged it with their software WITHOUT PERMISSION.
Open Source just means they are more than welcome to alter it on their own, doesn't give them permission to package someone else's work altering into a package and make money off of it.
Which is what they did. I support Imnuts on this, Papi, you need to grow up.
FURTHERMORE:
Want to answer the questions as to why P3droid blocked Imnuts on twitter, they knew they used another dev's work without permission.
According to twitter the reason we won't see a leak without recovery is that imnuts letter took down the servers for 15 days.

#2 if you think TBH isn't trying to profit on this, I've got some Ocean Front property in Arizona I'd love to sell you.
I mean really, if it weren't for profit, they wouldn't make their TBH App AND their Odin Maker App cost anything and just ask for donations like every other dev on this forum.
I'm grateful for the work of imnuts and p3droid. I've used both of their kernels. I don't know enough about the details, but lets not attack those that have given us their development for free.
I've seen the amount they make. They lose more then they gain. You don't see koush complaining bc people didn't ask to use his source. People kang all the time you don't see people filing copyright suits.

Koush can't fix cwr himself, why do you think everyone had to modify it to work? And frankly, you can thank jt1134 for cwr.
Tbh asking people to pay for an app that contains a leak is just bad publicity. Never once have I EVER had to pay money to get a leak. I happily donate, but being forced to pay? No thanks.

If they aren't doing anything frowned upon, why not communicate with each other?
I personally applaud imnuts conviction. It may not be the most popular position to take against some one who is getting leaks for you, but if not where does it end? Does everyone here want to be forced to pay for every little thing they get. Every rom, kernel, recovery, leak, app, or whatever? If you like someones work then donate, if not you should not be forced to pay. This community should be about sharing not trying to make a quick buck every chance you get.

GalaxyS 2 has CM7

Yup. It's amazing how much a hardware donation can speed things along.
Also, I think that the SGSII has been available internationally for nearly as long as the Infuse, and has sold significantly more units.
Actually, from the looks of it, supposedly the UK got SGSII on 5/1 - we got the Infuse on 5/15 - SGSII has been around LONGER and as stated above, Samsung donated a unit to a CM7 dev.

samsung made a statement that they would aid in porting cm7. so I'm sure Samsung engineers and the cm team were in contact as well as the donated phone.
the infuse has fewer users, fewer devs and the cm team doesn't have one. we could raise money for them but instead our donation bounties went to talented independent devs with little association with the cm team. we will get it, nopcodex and razor are working on it but it takes time.
The Galaxy S II community has 10 times as many devs as us. And a few of their devs are a lot more experienced than any of our devs. That's why.
This thread seems like it'd be damn near offensive to the devs we have in this community.

Yup. We have some devs pretty close to the goal, despite the fact that:
1) Despite what the OP claimed, the SGSII has actually been out longer than our phones (Someone forgot that countries other than the United States exist)
2) Samsung donated an SGSII to the guy that did the i9000 bringup, and we haven't really gotten ANYTHING from them in terms of dev support.
None of the teamhacksung developers have an Infuse 4G. If you want CyanogenMod7 on the Infuse 4G, you need some developers who are motivated enough to do it and have the wherewithal to get it done. CyanogenMod isn't like a company that assigns developers to projects, gives them the hardware etc. It is all volunteer work. If you want CyanogenMod on a device, you need to volunteer to do it and get it done.

SGS II Not Coming to Verizon

I know a lot of y'all have talked about dumping the TBolt in anticipation of the Samsung Galaxy S II coming to verizon with LTE.
Guess that isn't happening:

So, at least for the fall, looks like the droid bionic is the only dualcore lte device to look forward to.

I'm not at all unhappy about the SGS2 not coming to VZW. By the time it would have arrived the 720p, 1.5GHz dual core phones (HTC Vigor, Droid HD) would be just a few months away. The SGS2 would have looked seriously outclassed by the next gen devices.
The mobile device space is moving so fast right now. The TB has been the premier phone on VZW for about six months now and has been a great phone after the MR2 update. The Bionic will take its place and will be the king for four or five months and then something better will come along.
No, the galaxy s2 will not be missed.

I don't understand why developers left this phone for inferior devices. After using Super Amoled Plus I simply cannot use other smartphones and since the galaxy S II never came to Verizon, the charge is the only device on the carrier with this quality display. I've tried rezound and razr and they are junk. I'm sure the nexus will be a little better but its still pentile and MY eyes can tell the difference. Weird that the best device on the carrier (even with its single core) just got ditched....

I pretty much feel that development on this phone is dead in the water. Other than Danalo, I've seen virtually no official movement from any other dev's since September. Danalo is going to the GNexus and although he says he will still support the phone, I don't forsee much movement. That's not a knock against him or any developer. Lets face it though, there hasn't been much developer interest to begin with. A big part of this is due to the fact that there hasn't been source. Verizon Sammy phones are notoriously slow at getting source. Those of you reading this might say, "But the Fascinate eventually got source AND an MTD CM7 port was done. Why can't this happen with the Charge?" The Fascinate was different. You had a couple of very talented dev's sticking with it for one. For two, there weren't so many new and exciting phones coming out. Sure, there was the TBolt that drew away some
dev's and teams, but now, you have the first ever Verizon Nexus Google based phone coming out and many other (quad core phones) technologically advanced phones on the horizon. What's the incentive to stick with this phone? More importantly than this, what can even be done with it right now? Not much. You couple this with the track record of there not being many touchwiz based Roms in the past to begin with and well.....you see what I mean.
I don't mean to be a downer. I just think this is realistic. I am in no way discounting what Gummy, Danalo, Imnuts and others have done. I appreciate their efforts with this phone but it seems clear to me that the majority of those efforts are over and have been for a while minus Danalos contributions.
Again, I'm sorry but I see this phone's development as virtually over with. I hope I'm wrong but I believe it enough that I'm leaving the phone soon as well.

Imnuts is still actively working on this phone and just posted the newest Infiniti beta on twitter yesterday as well as continues to try and get gb kernel.source to work
Jt hasn't said he's stopped aosp work at all but ics source drew him back to the fascinate for awhile
And fwiw I'm thinking of picking up a charge of eBay or something after the.gnex drops cuz they all most likely bottom out in price... if that's the case then I'd work on it, or at least help imnuts maintain infinity
No bounty is going to bring developers to this phone, your best bet is to contact Rootzwiki and ask for more Charges to be given to developers. Of course, if jt gets the ril working for aosp, that will help bring interest from others. Its still a great phone, especially since the GB update.
As long as VZW keeps launching new/more phones it dilutes the developer pool even further. Unless you get the nexus, you are unlikely to have massive developer support. Gone are the days when the D1 and the Incredible were the only android phones on VZW....
On the other hand, the lack of seasoned developers has caused an increase in the # of ppl learning the basics and there is a new batch of developers-in-training. Don't be surprised to see more contributions from them in the near future.
A bounty will do nothing-developers do this for fun. They accept donations, but most do not wave around their collection buckets.
We have imnuts, Danalo, supercurio, aeroevan, and numerous themers. And maybe imoseyon too-although he doesn't have a charge anymore.

It's not too hard at all to follow you on Twitter or Rootzwiki. I've frequented IRC in the past but didn't care for the experience. At any rate, maybe I've been under the wrong impression. I've always thought your IRC/Twitter releases were alpha or test releases. I've seen you comment in the past on Twitter when referring to your Infinity Rom that "here is such and such Rom but waiting for it to be tested before making it public" so I've always thought those releases were test releases. Since you've stopped posting Roms in the forums, my assumption was that either you weren't developing or your work wasn't ready for public use.
At any rate, thanks for your work man!

I leave stuff in IRC mainly because it is faster for me, and the users there tend to be more experienced, so if there is an issue, they can usually figure it out for themselves. I don't want to post something that will have a hot boot or FC when you do something common with the device, and sometimes, the releases are a link and I'm off. Posting something on a forum brings in several hundred more users, many of which barely read anything in the topic or even the first post. I haven't had the time to even begin to troubleshoot, answer questions, or provide feedback really to people not in IRC, and even now my time is somewhat limited with the holidays.
How about adding a goggles + account I believe that would be much easier any way whatsoever is is urgent twitter so I can follow

The future of Mecha Centre! (you bet there's a poll!)

Well, it's that time of year. That time where it's better to give than receive.... Alright I'll cut the bull**** and get to the point- Some of you already know I upgraded to the Galaxy Nexus (conveniently right before the Nexus 4 rumors surfaced, but that's a different story...) last month, and you probably noticed a correlating drop in Mecha Centre updates...
So take a swing at the poll, it won't bite, let's get this figured out!
If I were to "Open-Source" it, I would manage the site/page exclusively, but the community would be able to add their own mirrors to ROMs and such, ideally they could add stuff and instructions themselves, most likely this would be sharing the site with people who want shared control via Google Sites. I know this sounds awesome, but consider the cons- the community can make it great, but the community can also **** it up. Organization of the site would probably suffer.

I think making it open source would be a great idea.
If possible, to keep it operating how it should, maybe have moderators that can only add things through other users requests. Basically get a group of people who volunteer to keep things organized. Is letting specific people have full access to the site possible?

I can just give certain people full-access to the site, again it's Google Sites so anyone with a Gmail account (so anyone...) can be allowed to edit the site through Chrome.
As for file uploads, I'd leave that to the "mods", Mecha Centre's CX repo stays, and if a mod wants to mirror CM7 for example on their Dropbox and add a link to the site, they can do so.
Sounds like a plan, certainly seems like the best idea.
PM if you're interested, don't be down if you aren't picked, I'm not even sure who or how, or even how many people to select.
Thanks to all who voted and voiced!
