i am running a leaked version of AT&T 2.2 on my rogers captivate, i lose my media sound and system sound when i instill any kernel or rom with lagfix, i have tryied several roms builds, still have the same problem, anyone any ideas ? My phone sound is not affected, it still works.
I am having this same problem, but now it happens when I'm on stock and I have used master clear.

Have you tried the "official" fix? Remove the back cover, take out the battery and "thump" the panel under the battery. Believe it or not, MANY have fixed their sound problem this way.
I just removed the back cover and pressed lightly on the speaker cover and mine came back.

I have three days to change my G2x for the Nexus S.
I need to know whether putting ANY custom ROM/root/whatever can fix every single problem with this phone:
Battery life drain
Software bugs
MOST IMPORTANTLY (why doesn't anyone care/notice?!): NOISY HEADPHONE JACK OUTPUT
Is this problem entirely software, or partly hardware? I have such minimal LCD bleed that its not noticeable.
Please chime in and check my thread on noisy output and take my FIVE SECOND test with your modded device to tell all of us whether it is fixed or not.
nevermind.
Using CM7 + Faux's EXT4 undervolt Kernel + GPS fix pretty much makes this phone perfect for me. I have absolutely no issues at all EXCEPT for screen bleed. That cant really be fixed with software though. Battery life is great. Yesterday I didn't use my phone much but I went OVER 24 hours on one charge. Didn't plug it in once. Woke up this morning and it still had about 15%. Of course I turned off data while I slept though so that probably helped a lot.

Can you please elaborate and confirm that you noticed the exact same noise as I described (for a second after any sound stops, or during a completely silent track playing?) And voodoo took care of it? So it is software causing the noise and not hardware?
I'm finally at peace with my G2X and it is solid reliable. ****ty battery life but what can you expect.
In my case my phone did have reboots and freeze while charging. I still don't trust having this phone charging overnight because it might crash.
Also went and deleted both Internal/External SD and properly WIPE like 5 times. Flashed CM7 RC1 + Google apps and fixed permissions. I had issues where email syncs failed after 8+ hours but after doing this full clean flush and Wipe, this piece of **** phone finally is reliable.
Its solid and finally enjoying the phone. Just need CM7 out of RC and I'm golden.
However, every time I went to stock I had issues. If you don't plan on Rooting/Flash don't bother with this phone. Its a piece of crap and LG sucks at making ROMS.
I love my phone but I reccimend you get the nexus S. I'm sorry, its just a better phone.
Ps....Please don't ostracise me from this forum lol.

Software-wise, yes. It's a better phone... Hardware-wise, HELL NO!
CM7 with Trinity kernel gets 24 hours of battery and no reboots from my experience.

youd be a fool to trade for that phone... yes every problem fixed.. no problems for awhile for me... love my phone..
I have to agree. The G2x is a million time better then the Nexus S. The Nexus doesn't even do 4G.
The Nexus S is last generation, the only competition for the g2x is the htc sensation and the samsung galaxy s2.

G2x - July baseband/radio, Cm7 Nightlies, Faux OC/uv Kernel, Launcher Pro, Straight Beast Status! No Bugs! Smooth as my ps3 or 360 on gaming... gameloft is making some killer gamez... I love this phone... It's a sense or no sense issue if you ask me... I like both.. My last phone was the htc glacier i gave to my momma, it was a good phone... I wanted a senseless device and im glad i got this one.. not another 6-8 months down the road when the next 1.3+ Ghz batch of phones comes out i might go back to sense, but im completely content where im at right now with the g2x with the games and now netflix... dont get no better.. maybe the sgs2 but that's the most powerful phone in the world as far as buyin out the store... but the sensation.... NO!

I've never had a noise issue with the Jack and I use my g2x like an iPod. Battery life sucks but with Google music its been awesome. I've also been using the leaked gb off LG the only thing with that is now I can't seem to root my phone.

So after getting CM7 and Faux's OC/UV/etc/Voodoo kernel I still have noise with the sound. Do I need the Voodoo app to enable a different kind of processing or something? I cleared 3x caches/data, installed .zips: CM7 b89, gapps, and Faux [2.6.32.41] (v0.3.4) before restarting.
This makes the sound even more apparent: Go to a silent place and turn the volume on the phone all the way down to vibrate. Put the speaker at the bottom right into your ear and push volume up once. You'll hear the quiet boop tone and a second of very loud hiss before it cuts out. Wait until the sound disappears after two seconds to notice that it was even there in the first place, before pushing the volume button again. It even turns the amp on when you set it to vibrate and there is no tone played. Two new units fresh out of the box have had this same noise. I can't believe users, especially devs don't notice this or see it as irregular, so I must be doing something wrong with Voodoo, and every unit in Canada is the same hardware-faulty. I've got three hours to swap it for the nexus; a primary use for this phone would be monitoring detailed music, and this is an unacceptable level of noise. Please try this and let me know if it's every unit or just every one in Canada, and if the 3 dollar Voodoo app is necessary to fix it!

I had never noticed the issue before, but when performing your test I hear it. This isn't a precisely calibrated, professional audio-phile level piece of equipment. For most people, this would not be an issue. If it is for you, then this is likely not the device for you.

I just started having this same problem. Just rooted my phone and installed Android Revolution HD 6.5.2 XE. I have the Regular Sensation 4G. It worked great for a couple days, now anything that normally plays through the device speaker just makes a very very quiet ticking noise. You have to hold your ear almost to the phone to hear it. Headphones and earpiece work fine. I tried flashing the non XE rom, but got the same issue. I read through 8 pages of searches and didn't find any resolution, just a few other people that had what sounded like the same issue. Has anybody fixed this without replacing the phone?

I have JUST got the exact same problem, in-call (front) speaker works, but if I switch to loudspeaker during call it goes silent, save for sticking your ear to the phone in which case you can hear that the rear speaker is making a constant clicking/oscillating type sound, albeit very quiet. This issue I initially presumed to be ROM related, but the issue persists across the board, AOSP, Stock, all ROMs. Thus I have also just ordered a replacememt speaker and will post the results.

disassemble phone and make sure the speaker is seated correctly, if it's seated correctly then you might have a duff speaker, alternatively try a bog standard rom aka default one, and see if it works

[UPDATE] New speaker arrived, took everything apart, swapped speakers, rebuilt, booted up, pressed the volume up button- 'no sound'! Pressed the volume up button with ear to the loudspeaker and there it is again- quiet clicking sound, best way I can describe it is that it sounds like a mini tazer! Took everything apart again, checked connections over and over (bearing in mind the loudspeaker just has two pins that rest directly on to the circuit board itself- I.e not hard to check), rebuilt, rebooted, same problem! Did a nandroid of my current and flashed a stock ROM,,, SAME PROBLEM!
Either the replacement speaker is also duff, or I am seriously missing something. :banghead:

I'm stumped, love my old Sensation too so I'm relying solely on vibration to no miss calls. As I said, across the board..
I had Sultan's CM11 but had bugs so i reverted back to my nandroid of Albinoman's CM10.3, which is when it happened! Which made me think it was software related, but I've tried all ROM bases since to rule out all variables and it persists. Switching the loudspeaker and still there, checking the motherboard and all other connections and nothing makes a difference. Possibly the new speaker is also a duff?

did you do a full wipe, i would try going back to the basic ruu rom that came with the phone before giving up, although you will lose root, woth a try
as you could root again, have a go

I Always do a full wipe when I flash any ROM. I backup all apps and data with Titanium, then enter 4EXT to make a nandroid of current ROM, then do a full wipe- system, cache, Dalvik, before I try a new ROM, time consuming I know but that's probably one of those OCD'esque things I do. And I've taken similar consideration in trying to rule out what this could be. I'll try one more time your suggestion!

For some reason the microphone on my Sensation is no longer working
The microphone is incredibly quiet (shouting sounds like a whisper), but there is obviously still some response. Occasionally I get a "popping" noise from the microphone.
I'm trying to work out what could have caused the issue. I'm using Albionman's CyanogenMod 10.1 Jellybean 4.2.2 Rom and no other users have reported a problem with it. The only thing I can think of that might have caused an issue is flashing a new radio and RCdata.img file. I've tried changing the radio and it's not made a difference, but I'm not sure if there's any way of getting rid of the RCdata? Could the radio even make a difference to the microphone?
Does anyone have any other ideas for fixes or ways to find out if this is a software or hardware isse? Any help people can offer would be great! :good:
Quick update and some extra info:
I've tried flashing different ROMs on there and it's made no difference. I get the same whisper level sound in calls, sound recorder and video.
Does the video use the two microphones separately to record sound? If so, if one was broken then I'd still expect the sound to be a lot louder than it is (though obviously not normal volume). The chances of both microphones breaking simultaneously seems kind of slim...
Replaced microphone... still not working
So today my replacement microphone turned up and I set to work replacing it. I plugged it in and powered up the phone to check it was working and I STILL have no microphone :crying:
This leads me to believe that it must be a software problem, so does anyone know what things can affect the microphone? I've tried different ROMs, different radios, taking the SD card out and seemingly everything else
Any ideas?????
Edit: sound is exactly the same with microphone unplugged completely
I flashed the stock RUU yesterday and the microphone came back
I then foolishly decided to try installing a custom ROM and the microphone stopped working. I thought I'd be able to flash the stock RUU again and fix the issue but this time flashing the stock RUU didn't work :crying: I'm wondering if I've got a bad sector on the ROM or something... :crying:
again install stock RUU then

Yeah, I did... several times. It hasn't worked this time though for some reason.
So I rooted my Skyrocket last week and I screwed something up and since than I've had problems with the audio on the phone part. So I'm running Odin and even after double and triple checking I managed to screw it up by not having Auto Reboot checked. In a panic (and after waiting a long time) I unplugged the phone and powered it down. I booted into Recovery and did a wipe and installed CM 10.1.2 and I swear it worked fine for a week but all of a sudden I started having this weird issue with the phone audio. I'll call a number up and I won't be able to hear anything but I can put it on Speaker and it comes through fine or if I use my Bluetooth Headset it works fine.
I reloaded CM 10.1.2 and still nothing. I tried a nightly, I tried 10.1, I tried Beanstalk, and I now I'm back to stock and no luck on the phone audio. I have no idea what to do. I've tried Google searching and I'm coming up with a bunch of things but not what I'm looking for. I've even found some people having similar problems but they got no answer as well and I'm waiting to hear back from them (I found at least three people reporting the problem over on Cyanogenmod's Skyrocket Forum). I found some reference to it possibly being a Kernel problem. Thoughts?? I'll do some reading up on that tonight.
As a last resort I'm looking into buying a used Skyrocket to replace this one because I'm still 6 or 7 months till I'm eligible for an upgrade. HELP!
Edit, sounds like a hardware problem.
Have you tried to odin back to stock?

Well I wondered about the hardware problem myself but it was working fine before I flashed everything and was working fine for a while afterwards. But I do have an issue with hardware. A few months ago I ran over the tip of my headphones at work with my chair and broke it off. Without thinking about it I put the tip back and reinserted it back on the phone again. I immediately realized what I had done and when I pulled the headphone jack out the tip remained inside the phone. I'm pretty sure it's caused some odd issues with my phone when trying to play audio using the speaker as sometimes it would play and other times I would hear anything unless I played it through Bluetooth. I took the phone apart thinking I could get to the tip that's inserted in there but it really can't be reached.
With the new phone audio problem I didn't think it was related because it was working fine before and for a little while afterwards. Plus I've seen other people post on the Cyanogenmod Forum about having the same problem so I'm not sure.
So no thoughts on it being a Kernel issue or some other software problem?

Seems like you have your answer then. If the problem persists regardless of which ROM or kernel you're using then logically it would seem that it can't really be software related, right?
Brought to you but time and relative dimensions in space.

You have to get the piece out dude. It's making contact intermittently and killing the audio.

And just like that I'm up and running again and my phone works. I had given up and was having problems with a CM nightly so I did another wipe and loaded a stockish AT&T ROM that I've installed before and no my phone is working fine. I'm going to leave this thing alone until I pick up a spare phone!!

I'm sure it is and that's why I took the phone apart to see if I could get to it. I tried all kinds of things to get that tip out before tearing the phone down and I had no luck. I should have taken some pictures but I've tried tweezers (everything I had was to big or to weak to pull it out) and even glue before resorting to taking the phone apart. Unfortunately with the design it's enclosed all the way around with no way to really get to it. I even thought about replacing it but that piece looks to be soldered on.
In the end, I might just send it back to Samsung and see if they will fix it. Not sure if it's worth it but I never got serious about it because I didn't have a spare smart phone other than my work iPhone.
I shouldn't have spoken so soon. Rebooted the phone and it's locking up now. I give up. I can't find anything that will work. I either have sound with a phone that locks up or have to live with Speakerphone/Bluetooth and be able to reboot.
Hi - I was wondering if other people are experiencing this issue? This happens with headphone when any audio type is played. It is easy to recreate with GUI sounds by just opening the notification draw. It feels like the jack come out of sleep, plays the sounds, then goes back to sleep, and you only hear noise when it is awake.
I only started getting this last week when I tried to flash the official P6800 JB rom onto my P6810. I tried then using a custom rom (skyhigh) and then also reverted back to the original ICS P6810 rom but the issue persists.
Can recommend a ROM that might solve this issue for me?
Thanks in advance!
Very strange - I just tried a bluetooth receiver with earbuds and I can hear the weird background noise/interference when using that as well!
I have this issue as well. It was worse on beanstalk ROM. Its less noticable in sky high v3.5.
