MIUI for the HTC Aria/Liberty/Gratia - HTC Aria Android Development

Before you say that I shouldn't whine for things and that I should try something myself before I beg for something, I have something to say. I've been going a whole week at this trying to somehow port this beautiful MIUI rom to the Aria. I have tried theme porter by taking a translated MIUI rom for another android device and I tried to use attn1's CM 6 rom and try to swap things here and there to make an aesthetically pleasing rom, but when I tried to flash, no luck. Nothing happened. Yet, I saw someone else do this for G1, but I am a novice, not like I know a lot about porting. I know a big problem is that MIUI is for HDPI devices, and I tried to convert but was met with meager success. Now, my request is that maybe someone like attn1 or another android rom expert port MIUI to the Aria. Like I said, I attempted my best but was met with little success. The best I could do was create a pseudo MIUI launcher system, still need to work on the dock.
Here is how my Aria is set up right now (launcher only)
i56(dot)tinypic(dot)com/2uib12c(dot)png (darn picture restriction)
I also have the iphone lock screen and keyboard, lets face it, iOS is more aesthetically pleasing while android is all about the user and customization. This is the very reason I want MIUI, a great bridge taking the best of both worlds.

MIUI would be fun to mess around with. However, the Aria does not have a huge set of developer support. And I don't think that Attn1 is willing to devote the effort required to port MIUI to our phone.

I've been trying to do the same. Except I have an incredible too, that has miui on it, that I've been trying to port it from.
The only problem is the framework and mdpi issues. Its gonna take some time to get this successfully running.
Sent from my incredible Incredible.

i personally only want miui for the toolbar, many home screens, and some of the built in apps. I do not howerver want the app icons and iosy look.
btx here are some devs working on putting this on another mdpi device... the hero, our good old htc cousin...

The g1 has the same screen size and resolution as the aria so perhaps try working your port from the g1 rom instead?

G1 has no miui rom. They have a WIP going on though... see here for details

So r u saying that we fan flash g1 roms?
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App

No you can't flash g1 roms because the hardware is entirely different, but the screen size and resolution is the same between them so as far as porting a rom goes, its a better place to start than a rom for something like an evo.

O ok

So..
I'm guessing it either can't be done or the task is way too tedious for a ROM that pretty much might be overshadowed by CM 7 (2.3 if we get that)

a AOSP rom with 4g in it...that would the ultimate rom for sure
60FPS hack
Definitely a aosp Rom

Stock AOSP ROM with working 4G and HDMI. Only pre-installed with the basic apps.
A Rom that connects me to Jesus...
I agree with most, if possible a stable aosp birth with a good batt for life!

An AOSP rom. And when I say that, I know that there are some things that are proprietary to get some things working, and that would be fine by me.
So an CTAOSP rom

Definetly an AOSP rom with all working stock functions, 4g, HDMI, cameras.
OC'able kernel with FPS Fix and themed, (ManUp is awesome)
It would just be real nice to get a bare bones AOSP with everything working and we can decide on the apps.

Bare bones so we can decide on apps, great!
AOSP with everything working, GREAT!
Themed...not so great. leave it unthemed so we can decide on a theme ourselves. Im not particularly fond of clear notification bars and lock screens myself.
I would also like an AOSP rom, hopefully as bare as possible, without any sense/htc elements.
The most important things for me are speed (response), battery life, and stability.
It should only include the essential apps, maybe with whatever apps others vote on if there is a high enough demand, with anything that is not absolutely necessary uninstallable.
It should also incorporate any upgrades/fixes that will improve stock settings, though it is understandable that most of these come from custom kernels.
I would definitely not want it to be themed. People can install themes if they want but I think it would work better for everyone if they could choose what they want on their phone.
A second post aggregating as many of the add-ons/themes/apps/fixes devs here at xda have made would also be really useful.
All in all, I am really hopeful, since there aren't many AOSP roms and there seems to be a good demand for one.
AOSP Fresh. Flipz fresh evo rom is the best. I would rather see it without sense or any htc apps except what is needed, if any, for all functions to work. I like cyanogen but it isn't fully functional on the evo. So, Fresh AOSP all stock. User can change theme etc...
Sent from my HTC Evo 4G with Sprint
I'm not really sure why AOSP gets all the love it gets...it's just not my thing. Looks boring and cheap BUT thats just me.
I'm not a huge fan of the sense launcher or the rosie dock but the widgets can't be matched no matter how many apps you download =p
But honestly, there are plenty of nice sense based roms here...I'm not sure there is anything else that could really be done to improve on them...so an AOSP would prolly be my vote.
IMO, I would rather see more themes...nobody likes to theme the EVO it seems..

We need a program like the Palm Pre has!!

When I had my pre there was a program I downloaded off of precentral that would let me connect my phone via usb, and select what I wanted to mod (lock screen, battery icon, and millions of other things) Is there anyway possible something like this can be mimicked? I would love to have something like this just because of the simplicity of its concept. All you do is plug it in and select what you want to do other then going into bootloader and doing all the crazy **** to root and change you android phone. Please let there be someone out there capable of creating something like this amazing tool!!!
That was a nice program but most of the mods on the pre were patches to the same code that every device shared. Android phones have different roms which make each device unique, so I think a program like this would have to be rom independent. It's not impossible but it would be a lot of work for a rom maintainer so I don't think it's likely. Flashing roms, mods, kernels and radios are all basically the same process so I think your best bet is to get used to it.

yeh loved that lil feature program of the pre
if it had a 4.3 inch screen i would have stuck with it
a 4.3 inch screen a not so crappy slider, more flash memory, oh and an sd card slot. No, I don't want it to make my toast, I want french toast! Or if someone could write a mod to transform it into an IHOP, we'd be good!
UOT Kitchen is awesome. I wish it would work with Evo.

on a second thought, i dont think a repository of themes would bee that hard
basically it'll just be this forum in a program, meaning, the program would hold the files(that most simply flash). Just like if you find a theme in this forum, normally in the topic or first post it'll tell you whats needed(prerequisites).
For starters every phone will be an EVO, then simply hold the themes in categories, as my phone now, to get to it, i would click say CM6 category, then the theme(all themes in that category should work on CM6) .
I just came from fresh, but if i had that, say i could just click a sense 2.2 category, then the theme. Most themes that works on a sense rom 2.2 rom (odexed i believe),will work on most 2.2 phones, other than CM6
, theres not many themes that will ONLY work on one rom, such as fresh only.
(i used themes as an example but same scenerio could be supplied to mods/lock screens etc)
the only tricky thing to keep in order is what type of rom/kernel is needed to run each them. But when u come to xda to get a them ,from what i see, every theme tells you what its compatible with anyway. So i say use same method for the program
(i used themes as an example but same scenerio could be supplied to mods/lock screens etc)

Have you tried the ported Gingerbread ROM?
Launcher7 is a pretty good Winphone7 ripoff. also, there are plenty of good roms out there, CM6.1 is damn near flawless, and the CM7 gingerbread roms are getting a lot of attention as well.
oh also, you posted this in the wrong subforum, way to go.
I've tried CM6 but after awhile the launcher would restart a lot, ZenROM is good but links don't work on there, and half of the other ROMS are just htc sense with a few extra perks. I want something like the desire or windows. None of that other ****ty mess of a waste of my downloading time.
Wow...and boys & girls, this is why they should still distinguish between winners and losers in school. Want in one hand and **** in the other and see which fills up faster...or go buy an education so you can make the phone all YOU want, because there are plenty of satisfied users here and I'm pretty sure the customer service department isn't outsourced.

There is the option, if you don't like what's here, to make your own, with whatever features you want instead of complaining about how the devs are not catering to your every whim. Just an idea. A good one, too, IMHO.
As an aside, I'm not intending to jump on you, just stating a simple fact. Now, if the devs were properly compensated for the hours of hard work they put in, maybe you would have a leg for your complaints to stand on. As it is, they hardly are and you don't have any reason to complain.

a port of windows phone 7 would be less functional than most roms since none of the LIVE connections would work also its compiled for a different processor than ours along with the hero being 1/2 the needed clock speed looks like you got some work ahead of you.
As far as motoblur, seriously its like 1 step above aosp and it has nothing attractive to offer also same thing happens they are using OMAP processors if I remember right, the hero uses ARM also all of the projects you said arm close to impossible
So get a new phone or learn how to alter time and space
As for your question about the desire im pretty sure all they have is either sense our aosp like us, I think they have a miui rom too but the same issues would arrise a group is trying to port that as well.
So stop wasting server space with your nonsense and get a phone that does what you want, either way read a little before making demands.

Its compiled for different processors its the same reason why we don't have MIUI for the hero, also since its closed source writing drivers would be very difficult and last but not least just sheer horse power even if some how we got a port up and running we have about half the specs that Microsoft requires to run it

Why dose everyone keep coming out with the same ROM's

Most roms that are coming out are always so stockish, y keep making the same thing...
Believe me I understand it takes time and effort to make something deferent but ain't that whole point to start with... Thats the whole hacking idea in general, im not hating on anyone its just the way I see it, it takes to long to make the same crud over and over again and just got some small type of differences which make one stand out, here and there... That was before the theme engine days. Themes aren't for everyone, so leaving the rom looking stock gives the enduser the power of personalization.

I kind of like stockish
well from what i been trying i really dont mind a os that is stockish but with some features. I am looking at stability and features. so far the only one i have found this with after trying all the cm7 nightly(114 to 180) I finally switch to superosr and its seems good comes stock but options to custom from the menu. I find that cool.
believe it or not there's this craze going on, about everyone wanting slim, clean, fast roms
you should check out SuperAOS, that one is packed with tons of stuff
but if you really want to be unique, start creating your own ROM, then you can do whatever the heck you want to it, and fully load it with stuff you want

Lol no hateraide, xD Haven't heard that one in a long time. Just... Going from what we have to what you want, Seems like such a downgrade [such as Windows 7 -> Windows 2000] between the two It wouldnt really be worth the time. If you are just looking for a theme as such, then you might want to try a launcher such as Nova and checkout the themes available for it. I'm sure you'll find one you like :]. As for me, I prefer sense. Nova has gotten laggy before. And call me judgemental or a prick [or whatever else], but On a phone with "1 Gig" ram and a 1.5 [1.8 in my case] Ghz Processor, I want and expect zero lag. Ever. :W
If the ROM had a source, then I would have tried. The thing is though that it is based off of their stock (file modded) and not built from source, so we can't build for our device by only using the binaries since our devices are nothing alike.
Yea hear ya guys. Just more so interested in this theme. We really only have two themes for hox at this time. And this one is pretty sweet.
