[Q] SIM card backup software recommendation - General Questions and Answers

hi guys,
i have been using the new 3G sim card which can store 500 contacts for more than 3 years now. i change the sim card between phones very often and i want to backup the contacts just incase anything happens to the card (most imprtantly is the contacts as i store them on sim card only)
i just bought a 3G sim card reader however ther software included (simedit) could not read/display more than 250 contacts (older sim cards, be it 2 or 3G)....i have checked and i have more than 300 contacts inside and i am trying to find any software that can read the full 500 contacts, in other words, software that supports these new cards
PS: i was surprised i googled for so long and cannot even find one despite having/using this sim card for more than 3 years...i thought it would be in the market alrdy

any help?
thanks

bump bump...

SIM contacts in Phone.

Hello people
with my touch cruise I have a small but annoying problem.
I have all the SIM contacts in the phone together with the normal contacts and this creates double contacts.
I have tried to modify the register HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Control Panel / Phone --> Show Sim from 1 to 0 and this works great only in the contacts.
When I access the phone and look for contact by using the Smart Diealing, I continue to have double the contacts that is very annoying.
Is there any work around to solve this issue ?
thanks for helping

Only way around this known to me is to delete contacts from SIM.
Which, IMHO, is not a bad thing - SIM is very limited regarding data it can store for each contact. And you will regulary make backups/syncs, right?

Yes. U R right but the SIM is the only safe back-up I have.
Anyhow I will follow your suggestion. The risk is worth .
It remains a silli limitation for a mobile so advanced and with a SO on board.
Thanks for the assistance.

Regarding SIM being only backup.... you do have SD card in your Polaris?
I'm using PIM Backup (scheduled) to auto-backup daily all contacts, messages and tasks to my SD card. Then you only have a matter of copying those backups to your PC, CD, DVD... whatever...
It's freeware and fits my needs for unattended backup.
Of course, I do also have a sync with Outlook...
Thanks for the suggestion. I will follow this.

[Q] Import SMS from SIM to Android 2.3+

I am here cause I can't find any related answer on xda nor the web.
Is there a way (workaroud, app, anything else) for reading and also copying SMS stored into SIM card to a phone with Gingerbread or ICS firmware?
With Eclair and Froyo firmware I used to go in SMS app -> settings -> Copy SMS into phone, but with newer versions of Android the option is disabled (also for SIM contacts... ).
I use SMS Backup & Restore for the backup to SD, but there's no option to read SIM messages.
I faced this problem cause I've to change phone (moving temporarly the SIM) for some reason and my older phone is not Android, so SMS are still stored in SIM card.
Thanks for reply
Not so many answers all together!
I can see many viewers and no one can say a thing...
Are there no solution or I'm the only one with this problem?
Inviato dal mio GT-I5800
I have the same problem too
have looked around google but still not found the solution
the same problem.
my android is 2.3.4, and i can not copy/move sms from sim card to phone.
The only idea I have is to flash a Froyo-ROM, back the SMS up (with an app like this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync) and than import them on 2.3+

Problems with contacts + suggestion for memory card

So I have 2 problems with the contacts:
1) When I go in messaging and then add a contact, all are doubled. Doing some research it seems the messaging application displays all contacts, in my case phone + sim. Now one of the solutions would be to delete the contacts from the sim, but then there's the other problem.
2) For some strange reason I cannot edit or delete contacts from the sim. I used to be able, but then I suddenly couldn't anymore. Then I did a factory reset (because of another small problem) and I was able to edit contacts. After some time it didn't allow me to do it, again...
Any ideas as to why? I don't use any third party application and don't have a google/facebook/whatever account connected. Galaxy 3 updated to Froyo.
3) I currently have a SanDisk 4GB class 2 card. It's quite old (3-4 years) and it has been formatted a couple of times. I also need more space so I'm planning to buy a new card.
I know our phone supports up to 32GB but that is really too much for me, so I was thinking to buy a 8/16 GB class 6/8/10. Any particular suggestions (brands, sizes, speeds)? I'm buying on Amazon UK.
Thanks for any help.

huh...well...for contacts: just delete them all
that are on phone...backup the ones you need with any app capable of backup contacts...then only import the ones you want from sim...and restore the ones that were on phone before & aren't doubled...
for sdcard:
i personaly use Verbatim 8Gb class 10...it's great sdcard...
what is above 8Gb...on our phone takes long time on boot up for media scanner to scan if the sdcard is filled a lot...
anyway...i'm more than happy with this one i've bought from some Slovenian online store....
I hope that helps a bit

Thanks for the reply.
What I would like to do with the contacts is edit the ones in the sim, but as I said I can't.
As for the SD card I went ahead and bought a Samsung 16GB class 10 card. It has a good price and positive reviews.
About the media scanner taking long, it shouldn't be a problem since I add only music to the card and I do it only once in a while.
My suggestion would be to open a google account.
And never worry for your contacts.
Registering takes just a couple of minutes.

There's also one another solution if you want to hide double contacts.
Go to more from the menu option select display option. open up the drop down list of sim..uncheck "all contacts."
You are done.
Also If you want to backup all your contacts select Import/ Export--> export to sd card..
You have backuped all your backups in your sd card as a vcf file.
Whenever you format/factory reset your phone and want your contacts back..go to import/export--> import from sd card .it will automatically search for vcf files in your sd card and you are done
For editing purpose you will have to use kies if its working still after flashing or else try my phone explorer its an app that will backup messages, contacts, menu, call logs etc
Hope it helped.

as already said:
open a google mail account, store your contacts online at google
-> no need to worry about loosing the contacts at next format/wipe!
For speed and classes, please have a look here.
no real need for fast and expensive cards.
Taken from this thread.
The choice is yours.

Thanks guys for the replies.
I will probably link it to my google account.
Regarding the memory I already suspected it but I use my card on a card reader so class 10 makes a difference.

Contacts from old Nokia N81

Hi, I just bought an Samsung SII for my wife. She has a lot of contacts in her old Nokia N81, around 400 contacts (she is a sales). Is there any quick and easy way to to import contact information into the SII? I have managed to save all those contacts into the SD card, but each contact is a single file, so I ended up with 400 files. The file format is recognizable in SII, but the problem is I have to manually open each contact file. Is there any quick way to do it?
Could you try google contact sync? Never tried it, my n81 is having problem(slide up and the screen goes blank).
copy all the contacts from ur n81 internal memory to sim card then put that sim to ur S2 and import it..

Default Sim Card Contacts

I have no idea how it happened. I'm old school and prefer to have absolute totalitarian authority over my contacts. I don't link/sync contacts to Google, or use Sim Card. I prefer to store them in Phone memory via import/export.
It's not a big deal since I don't store my contacts on the sim card; however, the [6] default Verizon Wireless (USA) Sim Card contacts are not there anymore--now there are [0] contacts stored there. Again, it's not a big deal, but I'd like to be able to restore them back if I knew what the names/numbers were--hence this thread.
Can anyone out there post a vcard, or csv file, etc or whatever of the STOCK DEFAULT Sim Card Contacts off the Verizon Wireless HTC One M8 please? There were 6 of them. I'd appreciate it.
It's just one of those things--if something's not there, and one didn't mean to do it--usually one would like to correct it, lol.
Thanks.
