Hi, I just bought an Samsung SII for my wife. She has a lot of contacts in her old Nokia N81, around 400 contacts (she is a sales). Is there any quick and easy way to to import contact information into the SII? I have managed to save all those contacts into the SD card, but each contact is a single file, so I ended up with 400 files. The file format is recognizable in SII, but the problem is I have to manually open each contact file. Is there any quick way to do it?
Could you try google contact sync? Never tried it, my n81 is having problem(slide up and the screen goes blank).
copy all the contacts from ur n81 internal memory to sim card then put that sim to ur S2 and import it..

dunno if anyone knows...
i was in a situation tonight, a friend of mines sim card is begining to go bad. since our phones are capable of more than they appear, i wanted to copy his sims phone #s to my phone as a backup, to my contacts list
after a hour of looking i could not find the contacts list database file
does it exist as a regular file anywhere ?
what i ended up doing, i had a extra sim card on me, so i copied all my phone #s from my contacts to my sim card
deleted all my phone #s from my contacts
put his card in
copied his sim card to my contacts
put the blank sim card in and copied from contacts back to sim
but it would have been nice to just rename my contacts db, make a new one, copy his in, rename his and back it up to a sd card, then rename mine to bring everything back to normal
so... does anyone know if the contacts list is stored in some sort of database file ? and if so, where is it / whats it called ?
if not, this might be room for a new program / mod / hack

What you where looking for, though years ago, was the PIM.VOL file in the root of the device.
You can copy this over with Total Commander and also overwrite it when copying it back (or better to rename original first then copy new pim.vol over to root, wait 20 second then reset device)
Hi,
I've got a problem and I hope someone can help me out here! I've tried several searches, and remedies, but can't find the "helping hand" I need.
I have an HTC Vogue, AKA P3450.
Windows Mobile 6, ROM version 1.11.404.1G NLD (dutch version)
What was I trying to do?
I bought an android phone and wanted to migrate my contacts to the android phone.
Outlook
So I opened Outlook, deleted all calendar entries, contacts etc. and synchronized. I figured that since Outlook was empty, all data from my phone would be copied to Outlook. No such luck: only a few deleted call histories were put in Outlook. Nothing else.
Copying contacts to SIM card
So then I copied my contacts to my SIM-card. I knew it can only hold 50 contacts with limited info. I wanted to put 50 at a time on my SIM, then put SIM in new phone, copy the contacts and start again with the next 50.
Problem
But now, I can't find my original contacts anymore! All I have are the 50 that I copied to my SIM, but they are not actually ON the SIM. The icon before each name shows they are on my phone.
Also, when I put the SIM card in my new phone, there are no contacts whatsoever.
Does anyone know if I still have the contacts, but I'm looking at a selection of some kind? (All filters are off.)
Remedies
I installed PPCPimBackup to at least save my pim.vol file. This was after the copying-to-SIM. So I have that file. No idea if it only has 50 or all contacts.
I also installed a trial of SpbBackup to view the pim.vol file, but I cannot see the file in SpbBackup, so I can't check if all my contact are in there.
I am at a loss here, can someone help me out? I would really appreciate it!
(PS: Sorry for long post, wanted to make sure all info was in there.)
Damn
I'll ask around for ya.
Nobody has any idea?
Hello all.
Just bought a HTC Chacha.
I have transfered my contacts from my old phone to Chacha, but even though I have "Sync Contacts" enabled (Home->Settings->Data Sync->Google->Contacts) on the phone I don't see these contact details when I log into Gmail on my Win PC and click contacts???
I found the similar issue in this thread, and someone gave a explanation.

Hi guys...
Actually the problem is with the HTC... when u sync ur contacts 2 ur fone it downloads the contacts 4m gmail but not sync and stores in ur phone... if u wanna do so u need to export all the contacts to ur SD card n import back to the gmail... this syncs all the contacts to gmail including facebook, twitter n flicr links if any... these contacts are stored as other contacts in gmail... so after this if u add a contact in gmail n u want them to show in ur fone that shud be added in the other folder only... my contacts in gmail does not synced to fone...
All this **** kinda thing is entirely due to htc sync... in vanilla android all the contacts are in sync all the time automagically...
Apologies if this is confusing, coz I'm typing this on my fone...

Are there any way to fix it?
thanks
Go to people tap Menu>Import/ Export, and choose to export the contacts to the SD card.
Go to people again, tap Menu>Import/ Export, and choose to import the contacts from the SD card, when the phone prompts you which type of contact you want to import choose “Google”.
Then sync. Now you have the phone contacts on your GMail account.

Actually it's not an issue of ChaCha, all Android phones work the same. I can confirm Galaxy S does the same (at least on 2.1-update1) which was my previous phone. Maybe you have already performed this on your Galaxy and forgot about it
On every Android phone you need to perform the steps I said above (Export contacts to SD card, Import from SD card as GMail contacts, sync).

Thank you Alex, I remind that I didn't import contacts from my old phone to Galaxy S.
Another guy transfer from Galaxy S to Chacha
I never had to do this ever, Google contacts always sync'd fine scores all my phones...

Yes, once you have them on the GMail server. But if you never had contacts there and only on your phone then you need to perform the steps above. (These steps are provided by Samsung and HTC).
Ah... Got you now, explains why! Thanks

SIM or Phone?
Thanks for the info above - I'm having the same problem. I am confused tho -
If I go in to 'People - All', this offers a relatively small list of contact names but if I go into 'People - Groups' then I can see all my labels from one of my gmail accounts which is a much larger number of contact names. Where is this 'People-All'? Is it on my SIM or the Phone or...?
ie if I want to export ONLY the contacts in 'People - All' onto my SD card, then do I need to choose to export from my 'Phone' or from my 'SIM'???
I am desperate to get this done as I want to print all these contacts off from my PC's gmail account. I'm going to be out of internet/Wifi contact for a while and I may need some of the telephone numbers urgently.
What I don't understand is how come all of the group labels I've created in 'People' now appear in my Gmail account but with only a few of the contacts.
If I've added contacts to People manually - have I added them to my SIM or my Phone or my SD...??
Thanks!!!
Hi guys , I purchased Nexus S I9023 2days ago , I update the software to ICS 4.0.3
I need to copy my contacts from my old phone Nokia N73 , I got the contacts in Vcards but a lots of files , when I try to upload them to google contacts it only allows one file upload , is there another way to copy the contacts or a way to combine the contacts in VCF file !?
and thanks in advance for any help
I didn't have any problem when I first moved to android from my e71 but I think that's because I was already using google sync. Do you still have your n73? You could set it up still.

Using vcfcards is the simplist way to copy contacts from old nokia to new android. Try it yesterday and it was working with no problem. Dont be scared of the large number of exported vcf contacts. Android wil import them all at once.
How about copying them to the SIM card on your Nokia then to your Nexus S?
set sim card in nokia , copy all conctact to SIM , set sim card in nexus s and move all SIM contacts to nexus s..
what about import/export function in your g account?
Application

So I have 2 problems with the contacts:
1) When I go in messaging and then add a contact, all are doubled. Doing some research it seems the messaging application displays all contacts, in my case phone + sim. Now one of the solutions would be to delete the contacts from the sim, but then there's the other problem.
2) For some strange reason I cannot edit or delete contacts from the sim. I used to be able, but then I suddenly couldn't anymore. Then I did a factory reset (because of another small problem) and I was able to edit contacts. After some time it didn't allow me to do it, again...
Any ideas as to why? I don't use any third party application and don't have a google/facebook/whatever account connected. Galaxy 3 updated to Froyo.
3) I currently have a SanDisk 4GB class 2 card. It's quite old (3-4 years) and it has been formatted a couple of times. I also need more space so I'm planning to buy a new card.
I know our phone supports up to 32GB but that is really too much for me, so I was thinking to buy a 8/16 GB class 6/8/10. Any particular suggestions (brands, sizes, speeds)? I'm buying on Amazon UK.
Thanks for any help.

huh...well...for contacts: just delete them all
that are on phone...backup the ones you need with any app capable of backup contacts...then only import the ones you want from sim...and restore the ones that were on phone before & aren't doubled...
for sdcard:
i personaly use Verbatim 8Gb class 10...it's great sdcard...
what is above 8Gb...on our phone takes long time on boot up for media scanner to scan if the sdcard is filled a lot...
anyway...i'm more than happy with this one i've bought from some Slovenian online store....
I hope that helps a bit

Thanks for the reply.
What I would like to do with the contacts is edit the ones in the sim, but as I said I can't.
As for the SD card I went ahead and bought a Samsung 16GB class 10 card. It has a good price and positive reviews.
About the media scanner taking long, it shouldn't be a problem since I add only music to the card and I do it only once in a while.
My suggestion would be to open a google account.
And never worry for your contacts.
Registering takes just a couple of minutes.

There's also one another solution if you want to hide double contacts.
Go to more from the menu option select display option. open up the drop down list of sim..uncheck "all contacts."
You are done.
Also If you want to backup all your contacts select Import/ Export--> export to sd card..
You have backuped all your backups in your sd card as a vcf file.
Whenever you format/factory reset your phone and want your contacts back..go to import/export--> import from sd card .it will automatically search for vcf files in your sd card and you are done
For editing purpose you will have to use kies if its working still after flashing or else try my phone explorer its an app that will backup messages, contacts, menu, call logs etc
Hope it helped.

as already said:
open a google mail account, store your contacts online at google
-> no need to worry about loosing the contacts at next format/wipe!
For speed and classes, please have a look here.
no real need for fast and expensive cards.
Taken from this thread.
The choice is yours.
Cheers

Thanks guys for the replies.
I will probably link it to my google account.
Regarding the memory I already suspected it but I use my card on a card reader so class 10 makes a difference.
