[Q] Increse Time Before Numeric Screen-Lock Activates? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to increase the time before the numeric screen-lock activates?
Often, I am working on something, or am using a calculator, and if the screen times out, the numeric screen lock appears when I turn the phone back on, even if it's only a minute or so.
It'd be great if I can set it to activate after, say, 20 minutes of inactivity, like the iPhone does.

You can Chang the time out for the screen to go black from display settings , but if you are talking about the time before you need to unlock your phone again I don't think this option supported yet ,I'm not sure . But there is some apps that you can try that prevent the screen from locking such as mylock.
Give it try.

Tasker or Locale plus Locale Password Locker from the market. An expensive solution but capable of doing exactly what you want.

If you're running cm7 you can change the timeout options for the lockscreen.

Looking for a simple brightness managment app

All I want is an application that can switch between Auto Brightness to Minimum setting (OS specified or lower) at specific time, time when it gets dark. or maybe it can choose the time automatically based on dusk and dawn.
I noticed that Auto setting NEVER drops to minimal setting for some reason......

There is an app called Timeriffic (I think that's how it's spelled). You just input the settings into the app and at that predetermined time, it will adjust settings (including brightness, not sure about auto brightness).
I have it set so that at a certain time (when I leave the house) it will turn off the wifi, turn on vibrate, etc...
But if you fall out of your routine, you kind of go bonkers because you forget that you have timeriffic set and can't figure out why the wifi turned off, etc... LoL!
How about just using Power Widget when to switch between auto/minimal when you realize the screen is too bright?
Thanks. Timeriffic gets the job done, but i wish it would support auto brightness. using power widget doesnt work for me because if i forget to switch back to auto setting, in sunny day i cant even see the screen at all and have to find shaded area just to switch back

Yeah I've had to learn where certain objects are on my home screen.
*Unlock* *Swipe right* *press top right of phone*
Haptic feedback is my friend
It's a shame, OLEDs are so much better than TFT screens for battery conservation but they suck in the light, you know, outside, the one place you are most likely to use your MOBILE phone. Ah well, it performs almost as well as the iPhone when the N1's on full brightness. I held it next to my friend's 3GS, but thinking about it forgot to check what brightness hers was on... DOH.
I think they've corrected it now though, with newer designs.
There is also an app that is called auto bright and it can be made into a homescreen shortcut and is basically a macro that turns on autobright. I put it next to my power control widget so in the case where I need to switch brightness manually I can easily switch back. FYI Froyo's power widget has added the autobright setting so soon as a stable version of Froyo comes out this will be a mute point.

Setting Profiles does the same as well, and a whole lot more.
App I use is called, dimmer. It has to manually be switch.

OP pointed out (correctly) the Automatic Brightness setting will never automatically set the brightness to the minimum point (that is, as low as you could set it manually). I can confirm that, though Froyo does include the Automatic option on the power control widget, it still won't go all the way dim. It seems rather silly that the Automatic range doesn't go all the way down.
Also, the word you're after is "moot", not mute.

yes. thats correct. if auto setting would go all the way down, then i would not need any 3rd party software to begin with. i really wish we could adjust the range and sensitivity of the sensor
ps. developer of Timeriffic said that its not possible to add Auto Brightness setting to his app because there is no API for that and the only way around is to hack it.

[Q] How to extend lock screen time-out?

Dear all,
is there any way/tweak how to extend lock screen time-out for instance to 60 minutes?
Thanks in advance
you go into the settings, lock and wallpaper!
The highest value I have there is 5 minutes which isn't enough for me. Do you have higher value there?

I have 30s, 1m, 3m, 5m and "never".
If you don't have the option "never" you have to unlock your phone (using chevron or developer unlock) and make a change in the registry of the phone.
It's very ridiculous that not every wp7 have the option "never" to choose.
There is no "never" option just in case you set a password for the lockscreen.
if you remove the password, the never option will be available again
It´s really ridiculous that I cant set higher value then 5 mins if password is set..
I have no password and still only have 5 min. I wish Diagnostic Tool in the phone could be used to fix this.
for Samsung devices u don't Have This setting because the technology of the screen (S.amoled) don't like to stay long time with screen on else if u Can damaged the screen...

[Q] Different pattern lock time than screen timeout?

I'm almost positive that this can be done, but I don't know how simple it is. I would like a way to make the pattern/PIN/password not happen immediately upon screen lock. Anyone who has used an iPhone has probably seen this option...you can make it not show the PIN screen until a specific time has passed...if you unlock the screen before that timeframe, it resets the timer.
Here's why I say I'm almost positive this is possible: the last company I worked for made this happen automatically when you used their Exchange email server. I could lock my screen, and it would not ask for my PIN if I unlocked it again immediately. I couldn't specify the timeout, but it seemed like it was about 5 minutes. I used ozmail, and I know it did it though the device administrator somehow, so I'm thinking it may have to be done programatically, but I'm hoping there's an easier way.
Any ideas?
All I do is turn my screen off manually when it goes in pocket. Then 10 min later timeout/lock time has passed but any time before then, screen turns on without having locked.
But in display settings I see "screen timeout" and in security settings I see "lock phone after period of inactivity".
I can set them to differ... Maybe it's your ROM.

Charge roms only have display timeout. It doesn't have a separate lock timeout, and we don't have any roms not based on stock.

[APP][FREE][2.2+] IntelliCover - Proximity Sensor Based Screen Control (And MORE)

Finally got my app up and running on the Market and being a die hard xda user, I thought it would only be appropriate to post it here for fellow users to enjoy. =)
IntelliCover is a utility which uses your device’s proximity sensor to control its display and allow fast and efficient access to your phone or tablet.
It turns the screen turns off automatically when you put your device in your pockets, close its flip cover, store the device in a bag, or even just leave the device facing down on a table. As soon as the device is back in your hand the proximity sensor is triggered again, the screen turns back on and your phone is instantly ready for use.
IntelliCover is more feature-filled than any other similar application on the market. And the best part? It's FREE!
Click here to visit the market page and download the app for free
P.S. If you find a bug, I'd appreciate if you could report it to me before giving a bad rating because it usually only takes me less than a day to fix.

*** Frequently Asked Questions ***
Q) Is it really free? Where are the ads?
Ans) IntelliCover is completely free and has no ads whatsoever!
Q) Do I require a rooted device to use IntelliCover?
Ans) Nope. IntelliCover works on all supported phones and tablets, rooted or unrooted.
Q) Doesn’t using the proximity sensor consume a lot of battery?
Ans) Actually, the proximity sensor consumes minimal power, almost little enough to be insignificant.
Q) What are the ‘Screen On’ and ‘Screen Off’ actions?
Ans) IntelliCover allows you to set events to be triggered when the screen turn on or off. For example, by setting wi-fi to turn on when your screen turns on and setting it to turn off when the screen turns off, you could save a huge amount of battery power.
Q) Can I request a feature?
Ans) Of course! Head over to the Contact section to drop me an e-mail.
Q) Why does IntelliCover keep running in the background?
Ans) It has to run in the background to know when the proximity sensor is triggered.
Q) Can I donate to the developer?
Ans) Not yet but hopefully I’ll have something set up soon.

Hello! I love the app! I just installed it, and it works great so far keep up your good work!
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
Seems good, some questions though.
1. Is it supposed to be able to turn the screen on? Take phone out of pocket, proximity sensor detects values that indicate there's nothing near (Sorry, dunno how / what values are calculated / used) and viola, screen on?
2. Dunno if I've set it up incorrectly. But, currently, if I turn on my screen, via the power button (Sony Xperia S), the stock lockscreen will show, and either one of two things will happen. Either I unlock it successfully, and the split second I'm completing the unlock, the phone will screen off, and engage the lockscreen - after unlocking this, can I get into my phone. OR it'll do what I've previously mentioned, without input.

Yup, it turns the screen on as well. The values are pretty much just FAR and NEAR for most proximity sensors, so once it detects that there's no object close to it, it should turn the screen on. If it's not turning on at all, that might be the root of the problem i.e. it might be causing the unlock issue as well...Hmmm...I checked out your phone specs and since you said "stock lockscreen", I think it's safe to assume you're on the stock ROM but are you still on Gingerbread? If so, that partially explains the issue. Some Gingerbread ROMs have compatibility issues with the app that are very similar to what you've described, I have no idea why but I'm still looking into it. I had to fix ALOT of Gingerbread issues to get it working this far lol. If you're not on GB though, I guess I need to hunt for an Xperia and begin testing/debuggin. :fingers-crossed:
HUGE update released! V2.0 Hope you all like it. =)
Thanks a lot for sharing your app, it looks grate but unfortunately it is not working with my Galaxy note 10.1

I like it! Works fine in my SII stock rom. It will be perfect if i could enable a sound notification when turns off the screen. Not really necessary but cool 4 me (car unlock beep-beep)
Thanks mate!
Frank
thanks for the update
working good.
I'm working on adding a widget and changing the design, but if anyone has any better suggestions, I'd love to hear them because design is not as important as functionality.
Love it. great app, and working fine on both my LG Optimus 3D and Samsung Galaxy Note II.
could we have a choice on the notification icon, would be nice to have a small black dot or something. i just like a empty notification bar but understand the need for it to actually be in the notification bar
thanks
other than that this is my fav ap on my phone
won't this drain battery

Yea, it's unfortunate that foregrounding requires the notification icon. You could try using the app without foregrounding, it works for some people. Adding more notification icons should be easy, won't take much time. =) Which ones do you think I should add? A small black dot would disappear on most black status bars (but it'll look like there's an empty space in the status bar so it'll look a little weird)...

The proximity sensor uses very little battery and the app itself is pretty light (4-5MB RAM). So far I've only gotten one deep sleep complaint out of 3500+ downloads but no battery issues.

Finally! Found a way to completely remove the icon and the notification from the status bar when the app is foregrounded. It'll be in the next update (today or tomorrow). It can still be enabled manually from the Notifications section but yea, enjoy the emptiness of your status bar. xP
Pretty Huge Update. Hope you like it!
Version 3.0
-Added Screen On Fix for some phones (Enable in settings)
-Status Bar Notification/Icon will no longer automatically show up when app is foregrounded.
-Added Pocket Mode
-Added Table Mode
-Added Widget
-Fixed Screen On/Off Actions bug
One thing I notice (which is NO WHERE CLOSE to a big deal)
The launcher I use (Nova) I hide the status bar and use a gesture to bring it down. When ever Intellicover turns the screen on, the status quickly shows itself and then goes back hidden, not more than a half second of this, but I cannot select anything on the screen until after that status bar thing happens
I like the concept of the app, and it works fine with my sensors. I have one complaint though, I don't like how when the phone screen turns on, it opens to the Intellicover App. Sure I can set it to go to the home screen, but I don't always want that. Once Intellicover is running, I don't want to ever see it again unless I manually launch it from the app drawer. If I have Chrome open and I have to suddenly put my phone down or in my pocket, I'd like to pull my phone back out and have Chrome still be on the screen, just like happens now using the sleep button.
Turns my dumb flip cover on my note 2 into a smart cover. Thanks

Actually, that shouldn't be happening. Once set you never have to see it again. I'm not quite sure what could be triggering this but if you could provide a little information about the OS/phone model/etc. I could try to get a hold on the device and try to replicate the error...

A more intelligent way to control screen lock ? any 3rd party app ?

I would wish a more intelligent way to control when using fingerprint lock and when I want no security at all... For instance I have been home alone all day... when I am alone I have no need for fingerprint or screenlock.. I wish there was a more simple way to "toggle" on and off like from the notification bar..is there any app which give more intelligent control of when using screen lock ?
using the fingerprint scanner for every notifciation popup is very overkill especailly when I am at home..
I wish there was some more intelligent way.. for instance I could set I use screenlock in certain intervals.. maybe 2 times in 30 minutes or something..that would be enough but not constantly.. when I am at work or at friend I would have constant screenlock of..
