Guys, apologies if this has been posted before but couldn't find it.
I've rooted my phone with JF RC9, but for some reason I can't use the wifi tether (one of my main reasons for rooting in the first place). So far as I can tell, I have root (in that I can su in a terminal) and my pc can see the ssid of the phone and connects quite happily but I don't get internet access for some reason - am I missing something really obvious or have others encountered this before?
Hi!
I assume you are using "Wifi Tether for Root Users" ...
If yes please make sure that you are using the lastest Version (0.97.1) which is available here:
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
(0.97.1 fixes some cupcake-related issues)
You say that you see that your client is able to connect ... right?
Please check the following:
1) What ip-address do you got from the phone?
(For Windows): Open command-prompt and type "ipconfig"
You should got an ip-address like: 192.168.2.100 (maybe 101, 102, ... at the end).
2) Are you abel to ping the standard-gateway?
type: ping 192.168.2.254
You client must support ad-hoc mode - otherwise it won't work.
Please check and report back.
Man, have I been dense. After spending a couple of weeks, scouring forums, taking the classic I.T. approach of 'turn off, wait, turn on again', I've figured it out...
I'd set up a static i.p. on my pc a long time ago so was still trying to make it through the router...
doh!
Thanks for your reply though harry_m, it was your comment around pinging the i.p. address tat jogged my memory! works like a charm now
Hello everyone,
Forgive me if this has already been asked, but after searching and searching thoroughly I was unable to find a solution.
I have the T Mobile HTC HD2, the phone is better than any iPhone I ever owned. (Just had to get that out... )
I have a question concerning the HTC CM Wifi Internet Sharing. I installed the app, ran it without any issues. The signal was picked up by one of my laptops. I was able to connect and surf the web over 3G, pretty quick I must say...
The issue I am having is, since connecting that one time, I have not been able to see the phone as a router since. When I run the app and choose T-Mobile data, the 3G pops up. The wireless antenna icon pops up and the app says it is ready to receive incoming connections. BUT, I am unable to see this from any of my wireless devices.
My questions are, is there any specific procedure to get this to run correct? Do I have to disable wireless on the HD2? Is there some WinMo 6.5 firewall running? I know others have experienced this, but I am unable to track down a solution.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
mcv50
Are you running the app through Settings-All Settings-Connections-Wifi Internet Sharing? Or running the WifiRouter app?

I am running the app through Settings-All Settings-Connections-Wifi Internet Sharing
After i installed the cab, this is the only place I could find a way to launch the app.
Why is there another way?
I downloaded a random wifi sharing app and had the same problem, then found XDA-Tom_Codom CM Wifi Internet Sharing VGA. Worked like a charm. I would uninstall and try that one.
SxyCupcake, thanks for the suggestion.
I uninstalled, then installed the XDA-Tom_Codon CM Wifi Internet Sharing VGA.cab you suggested. I get the same result. I am rebooting right now to see if that may help...
After rebooting, I get the same thing. It almost seems like something is blocking the WiFi Transmit antenna signal or maybe it is not activating correctly... Might be a registry setting or something.
I may have fudged up some setting using BsB Tweaks or XT Hack Beta2... I might wind up just doing a complete restore and start from scratch.
Still doesn't work. I will check back often and post a solution if I figure it out.
Thank you,

Q: My PC or Laptop is not seeing the SSID.
A: For the people having trouble seeing the network, make sure your pc displays adhoc connections and not just access points.
Now it is working...
Moved as not software release.
I have problem with my Froyo Android and 2.6.25 kernel (but it was similar on .32).
I can turn ON WiFi and connect to my home network, but it has problems with loading pages (it wont load page at all most of the time, I only loaded google.cz once) and I cant even login into Google acc and Market.
My WiFi is working on notebook or other phone, but cant make it work on my Polaris and Android.
Anyone know how to fix this? Maybe some WiFi settings that Android or Cruise cant handle? Or some other fix or suggestion?
Thank you for all tips...
it wasn't kernel releated, try to change release (Fresh Froyo, Scoot's, Clemsys's)
I have tryed a few builds, but it seems to be allways the same. Wifi is connected but cant load any pages, when I restarted phone, it loads 1 page just after restart and then nothing again all the time (I cant even reload the same page again).
Its probably some settings or maybe hardare problem? I really dont know what to do or how could I test where is a problem. Probably only option is to flash WM 6.5 back and try to do something there... but still I dont know how to test if its maybe hardare problem.
So I have tryed WM 6.5 again and Wi-Fi works great there. I am glad its not hardware problem, but still it would be great to make it work on Android.
I cant access Market or sign-in account and Android is useless because of that, since USB connection also doesnt work :-/
So after I was sure WiFi is working in WM 6.5, I have tryed another Android again.
With clemsyn's RC1 build and 2.6.32 kernel I was able to at least log into Google account and access market. But WiFi is very slow only 1kB/s at max and drops a lot. I wasnt able to download Opera from market after 3hrs mainly because of disconnects. Sometimes it also crashes and show startup animation.
Now I know problem is in Android OS only, but I still dont know what to do to fix it or if it can be fixed at all (if not I have to flash WM back again :-/).
So noone has an idea?
I would be glad for any tips, because I tryed everything I found, but Internet is still dead :-/
Also with Radio 1.58.21.23 you still have that problem?
Yes, even with this radio ( 1.58.21.23) it remains exactly the same. I didnt re-flash system after latest radio update, because I dont have enough battery left for flash, so I hope it wont mind.
I will re-flash soon anyway because I am trying different setups all the time now
Only little difference seems to be between 2.6.32. and 2.6.25 kernels. While in .25 it never loads any page, in .32 I am able to load google homepage after a lot of trying (but nothing else).
I am allways downloading these throught Atools, because I dont know how to prepare different POLAIMG.NBH by myself, so I only tested two versions available there.
I dont know if it doesnt load page at all or if its sooo slow that loading timeouts. Is there any utlity where I could see if packets are being send or received? On the other hand it doesnt solve anything anyway.
But it can connect to WiFi site and with .32 it even transfer google page sometimes, so it somehow "works" and transfers some packets occasionally.
Sad thing is, that there arent much settings in Android system, so I cant play with that. I also tryed different settings on my WiFi router, but it didnt help at all.
if you use adb and ping google did you have time out?
I never used adb, but I cant find any console or link to shell in my ROM.
Should I install Android SDK and adb driver in Win or can I access it somehow in my phone?
I have downloaded "Better Terminal Emulator Pro" and "Terminal Emulator" and installed from SD card.
In command line I write
Code:
su
ping 74.125.87.104
after a few tries where I get 100% packet loss, I manage to get better results:
Code:
--- 74.125.87.104 ping statistics ---
72 packets transmitted, 9 packets received, 87% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 158.338/328.306/1143.300 ms
similar on other website, also only after a few tries:
Code:
--- 77.75.72.3 ping statistics ---
51 packets transmitted, 3 packets received, 94% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 1003.263/1090.418/1141.900 ms
Seems to be a problem with the connection with router...
How many devices are connected to it?
Do all devices work good?
Router itself isn't a problem. Only 1 or 2 devices are connected to it and they are all mine (notebook and mobile phone).
I thought it may be a problem, that Android port for Polaris cant handle my settings, so I tried different settings, but it was the same.
Router works well with LG Optimus One (Froyo) and even with my Polaris, only with WM 6.5.3 ROM and of course my notebook works well too.
I wonder where could be the problem as most of Polaris users have working WiFi. I dont thinkI have any different part of hardware in it and I changed all software related things many times ROM, radio, kernel.
PS: results above are with kernel 2.6.32 I believe with 2.6.25 I would have 100% packet loss all the time. As change of kernel is only thing so far that have some impact on this issue I think it could be with some setting in there. I dont know what things can be changed in there or how I could try different versions, so I only tried three versions (two that I can select in Atools) and one that came with Eclair ROM.
So I have found where can be a problem and it rly seems to be hardware releated.
As I said before, in WM 6.5 WiFi works well, but I found its only because there is option to set "Best Wi-Fi Performance (May consume more power)" in advanced settings of WiFi.
When I turn this option off, I get similar results like in Android. Wi-Fi is very slow, so it wont even load page.
I cant find similar option in Android settings, so I want to ask if there is similar option in Android hidden somewhere or maybe some shell command or file edit, how I can change it?
try to extract wifi_levels.sh from K_K vaniljeclair and change the level.
Hi,
I set it to "extreme" and it seems to be working!!!
Thank you VERY much for all your help.
Does anyone know if its possible to hack or re write the hardware code for the wifi using ADB shell or terminal emulator.
I have a droid x and it always has wifi trouble and ive tried everything possible i can do from the outside, have also re configured my router settings and sadly nothing helps so I am trying to see if its possible to do it internally by re configuring the code for it.
Greetings dev-people! I am hoping someone can give me guidance on an issue.
I have a Craig CLP281x netbook - yeh, the $99 one from Rite-Aid. It's a suprisingly powerful little netbook, and I got it for tinkering purposes, but now one of my kids is using it.
Anyhow, I have it rooted and Google Play installed. The issue I am having is with the wifi.
Intermittently, the wifi simply stops working. Going to the Wifi settings and trying to turn it off fails - it reports "turning off" and stays there. Clicking on "Advanced" shows the MAC address as "unavailable".
I found a work-around for this, applying a solution someone used on a totally unrelated piece of hardware. Open terminal and type the following:
Code:
su
busybox ifconfig eth0 down
busybox ifconfig eth0 up
Go back to the wifi page, and if it is back, rescan and reconnect. If not, turn Wifi off in the gui (that should work now) and back on again, and reconnect.
Anyhow, this is happening several times per day. I think it's related to the unit going into sleep mode.
I have been stumbling my way around linux and Android for a while now, but I am by no means a dev. I'd like to hunt down the bug responsible for this and correct it (I'm convinced it's OS related) or failing that, turn these commands into a one-click app to restore the wifi.
But I have no idea where to hunt for this, or what to look for.
If anyone wants to check into this, but does not have a unit, the recovery image is available at Craig's website to unzip and download.
Any help is greatly appreciated, and aside from this issue, this little device makes a great tinker-toy.
Thanks,
TM
PS: It would do this even before rooting and adding play store. Rooting and Play involve nothing but adding appropriate files to the right spot in the recovery image, so I don't think they had an effect. Could be wrong though,
Wifi Fixer
Installed Wifi Fixer onto the netbook, and using it can recover the lost wifi mac address with no muss, no fuss, no terminal. Really improved the wifi performance too. Three cheers!
I heard TechVendetta was moving away from his sylvania tablet project and looking into working with these instead. Rooting them is a breeze and modifying them is easy enough even a comparative noob like myself can do it. I hope it goes somewhere
