Hi everyone.
For those of you who keep up with gaming news, a huge breakthrough in Android gaming has arrived today: the addition of the alpha version of Minecraft has been added to the Marketplace.
However, it only shows up if you are on an Xperia Play phone. Of course, this does not mean you cannot get it and/or its Demo in other ways (which I will not link here), but there's a problem...
It does not play on anything else but the Xperia Play.
I have downloaded the Minecraft Demo for Android and successfully installed it onto my Transformer. It runs, albeit in a small window (and does not give me the option added in 3.2 to make it full screen.
The game does NOT have touch controls. In order to move to other options, you have to have either A. the keyboard dock or B. a controller plugged in through USB.
I have tried both methods. I can use the arrow keys and/or d-pad to select different options. However, I cannot actually choose those options to start the game up. I would assume the X button or the Start button would work, but neither of them do.
Has anyone else tried to get Minecraft working on their tablet and had better luck than me?
Doesn't matter, even if you get into the game (which I have), you cannot do anything. No moving, no dropping blocks, etc. It only works on Xperia Play for the moment.
Decompile the apk and change the controls, then remove device restrictions.

How did you manage this? I don't understand why the arrow keys would work for the menu, but wouldn't work for moving around in the game.
Moving isn't enough, you have no way to control the camera. You might be able to move, but without being able to look up/down the game is still pointless, not to mention lacking controls so you can't drop blocks/use items/etc.
Good to know. They did say that it would be available to more devices asap... and no intention of iOS support (which is funny to me but stupid financially)

Asus Transformer - 3.2 Revolver/Custom Kernel

Minecraft would be awesome. I don't have the dock though, so no touchpad or mouse for me.
Do bluetooth mice work with the transformer without the dock?
right now its a Xperia Only app for a limited time, probably for a month or so then they will allow it to go to other tablets. Im sure a modder can mod the controls in for touch screen.
I have just started using Free Minecraft Pocket Demo with my sixaxis controller. You need to use a controller because the game requires physical buttons as its made for the sony experia. Works pretty well there are a few bugs but nothing major.

It's working fine on my Incredible.
When I tried that app to get the six axis working its said no. So you must have some magical Inc that allowed it to work, tell us what you did. I had a whole topic on this in the q+a section cuz I want to use my six axis for emulators. I had no responses of how to get it to work.
How do you map "enter" or whatever it takes to smash blocks? Also have you played around with the full version? Minecraft Pocket?
I'm using miui....not sure if it makes a difference. I am running a slcd Droid Inc with .92 hboot. I installed the app turned on Bluetooth and no issues. I contacted the sixaxis dev to see if I could get more info on mapping the input commands for 360 movement and smashing blocks. He hasn't emailed me yet but I will update the post when he does. I can't seem to find the paid app in the market does anyone else have luck finding it?

Are you running a sense based rom? I remember that the wiimote Bluetooth wouldn't work with sense based roms so I assume that its the same for the sixaxis. You might want to try switching to an AOSP rom (CM7, MIUI, OMGB) to use the sixaxis app.
Also we won't be able to see the paid version in the market. It only appears for xperia play devices.

Running sense, can't live without it. Oh well.

I must have the only one it doesn't work on
This is just too funny my kids are into Minecraft. I better not let on that it can be played on my phone I would lose it. LOL!

Unfortunately, Sense framework's Bluetooth driver doesn't support connecting Human Interface Devices (HID) like a controller or keyboard.
You'll need to run an AOSP based rom, as they have a different Bluetooth stack that does support HID connections.
Also, another fun fact: TV-out only works on Sense based roms, so if you're like me and dream of playing emulator games on you DINC with a wiimote and watching the video on the TV, that'll have to stay a dream.
Ignore me. I just realized that even though I selected "Search within Incredible 2" I still wound up in the Incredible 1 page. Sorry about that.
I have the paid version of Minecraft PE, got it when Google had the $0.10 app sale last fall. I am running CM7 and can use my six axis controller with SNES and NES emulators. I am having no luck with Minecraft PE though. How do you get the controller to work with Minecraft PE?
Edit: I downloaded the demo in the OP and the six axis functions in the game. However, L3 and R3 both run. I can only run and jump. Am I missing something here?
What I need:
Edit Button Mappings
Work with paid verision
So.. what happens when this is turned off? Do I have to pair again with the computer?
I don't normally have a computer to get a hold of so I'm curious what would happen if I synced it to my ps3 after using it on my phone, could I just keep the address and sync it back?

So long as it's not paired with any other device again (PS3 or computer) it will still work with your phone. It would be great if I could pair the remote with the phone over USB.

I found the touch profiles and created one for Minecraft PE. I have the analog_left walking and cross controls the block placement/removal. I cannot get analog_right to work correctly. When trying to turn it only turns as far as a touch from the center of the screen to the right/left of the screen.
The app is listening for a touch and the analog_rght provides a touch for that amount of screen space and when the analog_right goes back to center, the guy goes back looking forward too. As if a finger was moved from center -> side of screen -> center. That's my theory.

I actually got this work.. although its still buggy..
I don't think this will work for this game. It requires a lot of pressing the controller don't have. In general it works perfect. But the GUI and crafting and closing are the problem makers.
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk 2
I will be able to play it. I emailed the dev of the six axis app and he told me how to fix my analog_right problem. All you do is set the button to relative touch. To do this select analog_right Menu -> Button Properties -> Relative Touch. Now it works. I set the sensitivity to about 75-80%.

I came very close to getting this figured out. I had the left controls set with the D-pad because if you set it with the analog you would hop around randomly. I set the minecraft options to Split controls, then set an area on the right to the right analog...this is where I came into my trouble, I will inform later on. I set my brick inventory to circle and jump to X. Then I set in the middle of the screen R1 to break and place blocks. Everything was find except for the right analog. It would sense a touch, making it place and break blocks when using the right analog, plus it would reach all the way over to the left controls and just freak out. So if you came up with a solution to this problem please let me know what you found out. Thanks.
I'm sorry to bump this, but is anyone still interested? I've mapped my left analog for the movement( I just changed some button properties) and right analog for view(and building blacks and stuff). Its not complete, but you can play with your controller. My only hindrance is mapping to your block selection. I've mapped triangle as the inventory, but you have to use the touch screen from there. If anyone's interested, send me a PM and I'll send you my mappings.
Chao.
First off, if this thread is made in the wrong section, I apologize.
Secondly, I've finally gotten around to installing Emulators for the SNES and Genesis and I've been using my Ps3 controller flawlessly since I've a dock with one USB port.
I thought i'd be a bit enterprising by getting a USB hub and plugging in a second controller so that me and a friend can enjoy some classic side scrolling goodness but unfortunately both controllers never work simultaneously. Any button that's pressed on either controller will register for both characters so neither moves Independently. (Example:- First controller hits up, both characters jump, Second controller hits left, both characters move left)
Is there anyway around this? I'm quite sure I'm not the only that's tried to do this, so I'm hoping that you lot in the know of this stuff can help me out somewhat since I've not been able to deal with this on my own. Cheers.

Multi controller support needs to be built into the app. You'll need to ask the app devs.

To answer your thread's title, yes. A hub on your tablet works just like a hub on any other PC. The ports are treated independently rather than clones. It sounds like whatever app you're using accepts any control inputs it recognizes as controler 1. As sdbags pointed out, that oversight is within the app. From a system perspective, multiplayer gaming with multiple controller inputs is totally possible. Just look at Ouya.
I bought my Shield as an emulation machine primarily. It is nice to take my collection on the go. I have run into some problems with getting the settings right. I have the psp emulator running at a speed I am happy with and as for the old consoles its pretty much just load and go with the shield. My biggest problem has been getting the ps1 emulator working. I have tried Retroarch but I am having a hard time with configuring it so I stepped away from that one. ePSXe doesnt recognize analog inputs so thats a no go. So I am left with FPse. I cant seem to get the open GL mode to work right on my shield. and the normal hardware render is buggy too. Should I just bite the bullet and try to learn RetroArch or could one of you share with me your settings that work best for you.
TL/DR
Can someone share with me there settings to get the best balance between performance and visuals out FPse?

Retroarch works almost perfectfor me minus the following issues... I can get satisfactory performance with a ps3 controller but select button doesn't work (And oddly after the 4.3 update my buttons are messed up such as Square being X on my controller?) and ok performance with my Moga given I don't care about the triggers or a select button... Using the shield as a controller works great if you don't miss L3 and R3... Haven't quite got a perfect setup yet. I was thinking about giving FPse a shot but your post worries me I won't be very well enjoying that setup experience either.

Do you mean the square on the PS3 controller is X on the shield?
If that is the case I would guess that X on the PS3 controller will be A on the shield.
I also thought the shield sticks had buttons like the PS3 controllers do.
I have not used retroarch yet.

Err sorry I was referring to the control scheme of the original PS1, For example I put in megaman legends and the tutorial said hit Square to fire and on my controller when i hit the square location I jumped and i had to hit the location where X would be in the sony scheme to fire on my moga... the shield controls are however in the correct locations

I have been looking at the shield key mappings (.kl and .kcm) for a project of mine, and I think something I found my be the cause of the select button error. I am not sure here, and I need to re-download update 63.

So now I am Asking are the buttons messed up on the ps3 controller or the moga controller?
EDIT
Or are you referring to the fact that on the moga controller the location of the X button is in the same relative location that the Square button is on the playstation layout?
By this I mean
Shield and from the pictures I have seen moga
Code:
Y
X B
A
and the ps layout
1 = triangle
2 = square
3 = circle
4 = cross (X)
Code:
1
2 3
4
As you can see (if they post correctly)
Shield/moga>ps layout
Y>triangle
X>square
A>cross (X)
B>circle
And if are meaning something completely different that what I have posted here, please be more specific.
EDIT2
found something else after making more progress with my project (xperia play involved)
here is part of the key mapping that is used on the xplay for the ps3 controller.
Code:
key 0x12f BUTTON_A
key 0x12c BUTTON_B
key 0x12e BUTTON_X
key 0x12d BUTTON_Y
and the same mapping from the shield for the ps3 controller (update 59)
Code:
key 0x12f BUTTON_X
key 0x12c BUTTON_Y
key 0x12e BUTTON_A
key 0x12d BUTTON_B
I am also still re-downloading update 63 (slow internet)
Oh yea sorry it's the ps3 controller that had the incorrect mapping in Retroarch. Moga and Shield had correct mapping although the Moga had other issues such as triggers not working in retroarch
I should probably add I noticed it was incorrectly mapped after update 63, very possible it was there in 59 and I just failed to notice it.

Virtual Trackpad Mouse
Connect the Gear 2 / Gear 2 Neo to another device, ie Laptop, Car PC, etc, via bluetooth, so that you can use the watch as a mouse. You can map the home button to the left mouse key and long clicking the button for right mouse key.
I think the smart watch would be a great platform for a wearable mouse.
Interesting idea, not sure how practical that would be though. Why not just use a mouse?

I like the idea, and for a laptop it would be great, as I never carry a mouse with mine, as I use a thin laptop sleeve and not a larger case where you can carry other items in it.
I would like it and even to use it as a mouse pointer for my note
Lazy as hell but holding my note in left hand(same as gear) then holding my right hand on the wrist and swiping on gear with my fingers. That would be extremely comfortable!

I am sure there would be several uses for it. Me personally, since I can now turn on my TV and control my Directv box with my watch, it would also be nice to control my music/video server, which uses my TV as a 60" display, from my watch when I want to play/pause a movie, select a new music track, etc.
I also know people with tablets or car pcs in their vehicles, it would be a great interface to control those as well.
It could also be used as a "mouse" for people doing simple laptop to screen presentations.
Saying "Why not just use a mouse?" is like saying, "Why buy a smart watch, why not just use your cellphone?" - I think the answer is clear, we are tech nuts who like shiny new toys and love to tinker around and find more uses for them. If the dev made this app, I'd use it daily.

What he said! One of the things I miss from my Pebble was using my watch to pause/unpause my XBMC (I have a gaming/HTPC connected to my 144" projector & screen). That's actually a thing that I would say the physical buttons on the Pebble would do better than the touchscreen, is that I expect it to be more reliable and easy to hit a physical button in the dark without having to look at the watch and focus enough to hit a small touch target. This is also something I noticed when working out and changing music tracks - I could do it without looking on m Pebble because of the buttons while the Gear forces me to slow my pace and focus on the screen so I can touch just the right spot for the music control UI. I often hit the wrong spot and invoke the wrong action with the Gear's small screen.
I use Unified Remote on my Android phone to control my HTPCs though and it's pretty handy. There's a mode of that app that does exactly what OP is asking for, which is give a virtual touchpad and keyboard that controls the PC. If those guys would just port a version to the watch, that would be awesome, although what could be accomplished in duplicating functionality in a much smaller form factor is questionable.

Offline calendar and contacts
Sometimes it would be really nice to be able to access my calendar/appointments and contacts when offline (not connected to my phone).... ideal would be if appointment alarms go off and remind me even when not connected to a phone. The Gear 2 has plenty of processing power and storage to handle such apps.
This would essentially be an important step to for the Gear 2 to become independent of a phone (but the phone/calling functionality). A small organizer on my wrist so to speak.
Other suggestions: a password storage app (encrypted and protected and sync with PC: something like eWallet or "Safe in Cloud"), chess game, world clock with alarms,...
I am sure there are plenty of other ideas.

A laptop does but things like home theatre PCs don't. I can see it being handy for people with those kind of setups. Especially with stuff like the Steambox likely to make some inroads into front rooms this year. I wouldn't have much use for a mouse app myself but I can see a potential market for one if it's possible.

GPS/location/navigation app.
We really need an app for navigation or location. Glympse is able to do it so why not make a navigation app even if you have to input then info on the phone first.
Also the keyboard app that was stated to be on gear 2 at launch still hasn't arrived. So a keyboard would be great. That way we could reply to texts, though I know that wouldn't be so simple.
Another would me a browser app. Sony sw2 has one. Would be nice to have.
I know is easier said than done but hey....
Also what's up with this shealth crap not working at all. I got an email from samsung support telling me it SHOULD work on my sprint note 3 and gave me four different troubleshooting processes to try and none worked. Told me to call but I do not get hom until 2am. This is one thing that should have worked from the start.

hey I thought of this first!! two weeks ago and yes it seems to be rather hard to find a way to implement this idea with a feture rich app. like Power point control for projector with VC(voice commands) and virtual trackpad with possible fleksy like key board or voice input. for not only PC.. but for HTPC . or mirroring or MHL connection for the phone its self. how great would it be to hook up(I have SGN3) via mhl 2.0 and jumping to the couch and contrilling a Virtual mouse with the Gear 2 swiping with 2 finger or something of the sort plus possiple use of voice to text dictation as an alternative to a tiny keyboard. it would gimickly exite even the most callus of Gadget Enthusiasts for at leasy 10 seconds (-;.
Anyway I am still trying to pull something like this together if anyone want to team up hit me up with a PM

Hey let me know if you need help testing this. Since I went over to the Gear, I miss being able to pause/unpause movies in XBMC like I could w/ my Pebble (it just sent the same codes that the pc accepts as the media control hotkeys). That's all I need for now, although with the Gear having a touchscreen I would've hoped someone could make it behave as the remote touchpad for a pc.
How about using the builtin camera sensor to automatically adjust the screen brightness level. That probably has to go into the firmware rather than an wgt type up.

another app idea
Id like an app for sailing
Simply program waypoints into phone and watch displays distance and bearing to next waypoint swipe sideways and it moves navigation to next waypoint swipe other direction it gives direcyions to previous waypoint add speed over the ground in knots and ill be a very happy bunny i frequently do yacht races that use 4 waypoints done in various orders to complete course now yes i could just look at my phone but it would be so much easier to be able to look at my wrist change the speed unit and it could be used by hikers aswell add a save my position function and you have the perfect app
