HTC Incredible HD (The Mecha) - Thunderbolt General

This thing is sick... it will be mine!
Till then... who know how to dig into the PG05IMG to get at some of its goodies?

i want the droid bionic...

It's officially the thunderbolt, not incredible HD or mecha...just FYI.

Can't wait for this phone! Here's the link to the Thunderbolt on HTC's website. Too bad it's not a dual core processor, but it does have 768MB RAM and a preinstalled 32GB microSD card!

And Verizon already has it on their website:

What happened to the optical trackpad?
That's one of my favorite features about the Incredible.

Personally, I like the Incredible's track pad, hated the Eris' /but I can certainly function without it. when you think about it, it's a touch screen phone.. the track pad is just taking up valuable real estate.

I do love the Thunderbolt. It isn't what I hoped it would be. and I wasn't sure about the kick stand. but it looks really well built. And I'm not in a 4G area, so paying for it may not be worth it unfortunately. Hopefully they adequate the pricing so it's doable.

Ive never had that problem with the dirty trackpad. I just have really big fingers and the trackpad helps a lot. Although my next phone may be one of the 4.3"+ i was playing with an evo and everything seemed a lil bigger on the ui, so that might help me
Sent from my HTC Incredible using XDA App

Funny I figured Verizon would've called it a Droid at least. The trackpad really would just take up space on the already large device. it fits well on the incredible though. i had a droid x for a while and I felt like it needed a trackpad even though it was so large. there was definitely room for it on the X

When Verizon is selling it it'll be the HTC Droid thunderbolt. When I bought my phone the guy referred to it only as the Droid incredible. They really like throwing the Droid word around

doesnt say anything about it there. on another note... did anyone notice you cant use the kickstand and charge the Thunderbolt at the same time?

why dont any of those pictures show the FFC?
it would have been nice to have a dual core processor, i would love to get this phone but i'm scared that it is going to be outdated extremely quickly. if the development for the phone is good i'll definitely get it though. i hope when i see it in person i'm more "wow'ed" by it.
and personally, i hate the trackpad on the phone. i would have them rather just take it out and make the phone shorter

imho... this new dinc whatever you call it is not up to par..... ill just sight this.... no hdmi out? the only thing my dinc does not do well is tv out. how can i spend the money for an upgrade that missed hdmi out. Hey otherwise im drooling but Really no hdmi out? why..We all know why... big red anyhoo just my 2 cents

I can't really tell from the pictures. But am I seeing some sort of proprietary charge port instead of micro usb?? That might be a deal breaker for me.

I think there is a micro-USB and an HDMI out. Maybe you're seeing the HDMI port?

Tech specs do list micro-USB but not HDMI.

Put It this way... There are justified and explainable reasons for the lack of dualcore. If you think about, Qualcomm is really the best CPU on the market, if HTC would've debuted a Dualcore Snapdragon, everyone would've disregarded the tegra and all its mobile counterparts, minus the xoom of course =)
In Addition... There are NO APPLICATIONS or Android itself is NO WHERE NEAR the use of two cores and hyper threading. This should pick up after Q3 maybe even Q4 when the "Devs and Engineers" fine tune the use of all this great hardware.
For now, the thunderbolt is the best machine. Dual Mics plus the media mics by the camera and speaker as the Droid x had make this a Beast over that chump called "Droid Bionic" garbage. 768MB Ram, Second Gen Snapdragon, Plus the dev support on this makes it insane...

[Q] ***Day Dreaming*** What If HTC Made The G2X?????

If HTC was the manufacturer instead of LG, what changes to the device do you think they would make? Do you think it would make a huge difference?
Doubt it would be stock android and would prolly have a locked bootloader.
Honestly it wouldnt exist because of the Sensation.

It would look exactly like every other HTC phone, would be made with metal (I actually like high quality plastic better as it can absorb shock better), and would be running sense. Probably would have a locked bootloader also.
(I have nothing against htc phones, I have one myself, just stating my honest observations)
HTC already manufactured G2 (with keyboard).

First, I'm guessing that LG was looking for a U.S. carrier to sell the O2X and couldn't find one. With the Sensation, SGS2, Bionic and all of their variants coming, the U.S. carriers probably didn't need another high-end dual core phone. Especially from a company new to high-end phones. T-Mobile probably said if you strip out the UI we'd be able to find a place for it in our G-line. I'm sure part of the deal revolved around T-Mobile carrying the G-Slate. I'm also sure that LG would have rather sold the O2X as is rather than having to develop and support another version of s/w.
Carriers don't just randomly pick phones one-by-one across vendors. They sign multi-year commitments worth hundreds of millions of dollars. That's why LG and Motorola find it so difficult to place their phones. LG was vanquished to the low-end and Motorola sold its soul to VZW. Trust me, there's little passion and emotion at the HQ of any carrier when it comes to an individual phone unless said phone can make them lots and lots of money (EG: iPhone). It's all about the Benjamin's.
So if HTC made a dual core successor to the G2 I'm guessing it would be Sensation-like spec wise without Sense. I for one would camp outside a T-Mobile store to get one.

If HTC made the G2X, they would use:
1) ****ty Speakers like all their phones
2) Bad molding process, creaking here and there
3) Dust under the screen
4) Somewhat not centered Front face camera.
5) Tape, glue, double sided tape here and there to put the phone together.
Sorry i'm done with HTC phones.

Exactly... Other than the hd2s build quality. I hated my htcs.. Hardware issues left and right with them.. Even the n1 used a cheap screen and had mad dust..
I don't know why people complain so much... Build quality is amazing on the g2x, I've had no reboots like others and the bleed issue isn't a issue for me.
Trust me people, there are good ones and I got one... Actually 2 with no issues..
If HTC made the G2x it would have...
A. only came with a 1250 mAh battery (they skimp on battery size BAD).
B. it would have sucked any extended battery you bought for it dry in mere hours.
C. it wouldn't have had a Gorilla Glass screen (HTC uses a glass that they make which is supposed to be as good as GG, but fails miserably).
D. it would have had that same earpiece speaker that every single other HTC device has (don't get me wrong I've always liked HTC designs, and I know they're attempting to BRAND their phones... but it's getting old IMO).
and
E. We wouldn't have vanilla Android (or Google Dark Ale as they like to call it) on our G2x, we'd have Sense UI. And while Sense may well be the best OEM launcher going, I still prefer not to skin Android and just let us choose our own launcher instead. Every skin creates some lag IMO. With my vanilla Android G2x, I've experienced zero lag to date.
And loving it!

Atrix or inspire?

Please answer if you have had both so I can get good advice. The inspire battery isnt a big deal because I can buy another one. And as far as the atrix,I'm kind of a social person so motyrblur won't be a bad thing to me. Please kick me in the rite way loll. I've been pulling my hair out trying to decide
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
Best Buy carries the Atrix for $99.99 on contract, so if you're for hardware or raw performance I'd go the Atrix path. I personally don't like the Inspire, so I guess that discounts my opinion, but I'd get an Atrix, root it, and maybe flash a custom ROM on it if you don't like MotoBlur or any of options that ADW or Launcher Pro have to offer.
I have the atrix and to be honest with you ... I hate it. Just try and wait it out for for a better phone to be released.
I'd personally say Atrix. It is quite sluggish at times but im sure it can be solved with a software update. the reason is that you will be future proofed and also 1080p recording is in the works.
Thanks guys. Things is I can't wait for a better phone because I have to make my decision Tuesday. Please, more opinions
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
I have an Atrix, and I love it. Those that say the phone is sluggish don't know what they're talking about or have a ton of rouge apps running in the background. Just use an alternate launcher and you shouldnt have any complaints.
I would only recommend you go for the inspire if you consider camera quality a top priority or care about the locked bootloader on the atrix (which has almost been worked around anyway).

I have THE Inspire and am VERY happy with it. I was between the two myself and the deciding factors for me were the larger screen, no motoblur, and the awesome development community. If you are into modding your phone, the Inspire has it hands down. My Inspire is running @ 1.4ghz and is noticeably faster than the Atrix's that two of my coworkers have. If you aren't going to root it, or just want to retheme it, than IMO it's just a choice between features.
I really need fast performance, style and sturdyness. I love the 4.3 inch but 4 isn't that bad. Its all I've had so far lol. I wish I could have both to test out lol

I have the inspire and love this phone. Its my second android phone after being with the iphone for the past few years.O and Its free at best buy this week with a new two year or upgrade with 2 yr.
Thanks for all the replies. I think I'm gonna go with the atrix for 2 reasons. First is gorilla glass. I'm known for keeping a lighter or keys in the same pocket as my phone and I've scratched many screens. Also I hate screen protectors. Second is actually 2 reasons in one. Sound quality and the fact that the only thing that drags me towards htc and sense is the evo. I actually have the evo,and its one sexy beast. But I feel like the inspire isn't even up to the evos standards when it comes to the epicness of the phone. The evo set a high standard and still after over a year holds its ground against any other phone on the market. People are still paying 200 dollars for it with a new contract, but the inspire just don't seem to get that much hype. I really like htc's builds and how sturdy there devices are,but I'm no stranger to the plastic feel. I've owned nothing but samsungs ( ) so the atrix wouldn't be a problem on that end. The only thing(s) that is still giving me doubt is the fact that I really wanted to upgrade to a 4.3 inch screen, and that with the atrix it looks as if everything is really tiny, even the keyboard. Please,if anyone has had both, tell me why you decided to go with what phone.

Just updating here for people who may be stuck in the position I was but I went with the inspire, and folks until you hold it in your hands, you wouldn't know its awsomeness. I stated it wasn't as good as the EVO,but I have both and this thing blows the EVO away. And as far as battery life,im a heavy user and I make it through the day off a charge. That's with very heavy usage. I did tweak a few things but nothing I even noticed. Brightness down to 47% and turned off HTC mail sync and news sync. Saves a lot. Great phone here, bada ba ba,I'm loving it

From Vision to Sensation: First thoughts.

Hey fellas. This is for people who are thinking about getting a sensation. If you don't care about this phone.. DON'T READ. Thanks.
Well I just got my sensation about an hour ago from walmart. I'm really digging this phone. The screen is huge, the colors are fantastic and its lighter. TOO light for my liking honestly. Feels like I'm holding a vibrant. I hate the fact its so light. It feels fake to me kinda. I love the way the g2 feels. Its not light, but its not chunky and heavy.
The build quality is pretty good. It feels FANTASTIC in the hand but I still don't like the lightassedness this phone has. I still prefer the battery door latch that our vision has but its not hard at all to get the back off.
Speed: not even going to lie. Its fast. Pretty damn fast. But compared to our vision is what you guys want to know. And having them side by side having the sensation obviously stock and my vision obviously not (oc'd to 1.2 gigs) I don't honestly see a difference.. at all. Probably after root gets here and a little oc hits this then we will see.
If anyone wants to know anything ie want me to run tests against it etc just let me know. Just for reassurance : THIS IS JUST FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE DEBATING ABOUT GETTING THIS PHONE AND WANTED TO KNOW SOMEONES OPINION. I love reading people's opinions on phones and I always come here to read people opinions on their experience with the phone I want. Just wanted to give back my opinion. Maybe it might help someone, maybe it won't.

To me honestly I LOVE this screen. very nice and responsive (unlike my vision sometimes sadly) and the colors are better. i am a little biased sure (ive been waiting for a 4.3 inch screen for a while) but the big factor for me at least is that the pyramid is visible outside. i think its a really big step up.
How are data speeds? I know it's a 14.4 device, but a newer radio may be better optimized - also -how is the reception? Battery?
Have you had a chance to use HTC watch yet?
I have a G2 currently and love it, I really like the look of the Sensation though..
4G is insanely slow right now honestly. i think its because the device isnt even released by tmobile yet so im not making it a biggie right now. when its working though, its extremely quick, especially on wifi. and there is virtually no lag whatsoever anywhere especially when using the device. and it gets faster over time. havent used htc watch though yet im sorry. cant make any calls on the battery life. this is still my first run through of the battery.

Looks like it has the Sense keyboard to me. The gingerbread keyboard is black right?
I am also coming from a G2. I love this phone in every aspect. However, I do find myself switching back to the G2 every now and then simply because it has root and a trackpad for scrolling long articles. Thats probably the only thing I miss. A trackpad, never realized how much easier it made things. Would you all happen to know of an app that givesu a thumb scroll in every app like the music app has? I have no idea why htc, or google (whoever's fault it is) chose not to integrate this feature all around.
Well, not here to ask questions as I already bought the Galaxy S II(was between that and the Sensation),but I can tell you some things for sure.
Sometimes, you're gonna miss that extra RAM that HTC for some reason didn't give this phone.768mb on the Sensation with Sense 3 is as pure stupid as the good camera with no flash on the Galaxy S.Second is that, although the Adreno 220 is REALLY good and is bound to get even better with root and, obviously, overclocking,it isn't really the beast that'll handle the qHD screen with ease, especially when scrolling through screens.
For the rest,I still think that it's a hell of a good phone, just not quite the upgrade from my Desire HD.Not comparing or fanboyin' or anything(ALL my smartphones until now were HTC after all),but just HTC could have made it better.I kinda like the Evo 3D though...
I haven't seen any lag on the sensation at all.are you referring to the sense launcher when you say scrolling through screens? Cuz with that, there is no lag either. I knew there was less ram when I bought it and I thought I might end up regretting it but I honestly haven't seen any reason to and this is just stock. I can only imagine afterwards. I don't think I will overclock like I did my g2. 1, for the sake of the battery, and I don't see how the speed could really improve much

Well, take my word with a pinch of salt as I don't have a Sensation. But on my Desire HD with Sense 3 rom(768mb of RAM too),RAM is always less than 200mb free.No lagging there too,but after some use and some 100 apps installed,I think it would show.

but im dying either for the sensation or the evo 3d, do any of you hapen to know if theres gonna be a 850mhz version of one of these 2 beauties?
. Just because 100 apps are installed, doesn't necessarily mean they are all eating ram. I do however understand what you are saying. I guess only time will show as I've only had it for two and a half weeks now. I think that extra core will kick in then. From my knowledge, the sg2 has a processor where both cores are on at all times where as the sensation's cores can run independently of each other. I think that will lead to better battery optimization. Maybe the lag, if any one experiences any, is when that second core is kicking in. I haven't had this happen to me, but to comment on the topic in case anyone is switching, my advice would be to absolutely grab that sensation. But keep your g2 if you can cause it was indeed a great successor to the first ever android.

will the droid charge ever...

Will the droid charge ever be supported by Cyanogen?
Reason I ask is because I just picked up the droid incredible 2, which is a great phone and even better on battery life than any other android phone I've had before (evo, nexus s), and I'm still on my 14 day trial but I'm considering the droid charge. I love the amoled screen on sammy, makes all other screens look washed out, and the vanilla look and speed. So cyanogen for droid charge ever? How are the roms without TW and how is battery life on the charge?
Last question, how does the charge feel in the pocket? I remember my evo was like a brick, and the nexus s was like nothing compared to it. The droid inc 2 is about the same as the nexus s. Thanks in advance.

I just don't like TW. It really lags the phone, comapred to the nexus s which has the same hardware but stock vanilla. That is why I'm asking about CM7, but I'm sure there are other roms out there which has taken the TW out of it right? I'm just in the fence between this phone and the droid inc 2.
Let me try to give some input on the droid inc 2 and maybe you guys can give me some feedback on what your experiences are with the charge.
-very light, feels great in the pocket
-sense, a couple or roms being developed now with addition of 3.0 sense but I can live without
-no 4g, not that I have 4g in my city, but it is offered at some places I usuallly go to
-already has a beta cm7, which runs nearly perfect, very stable
-very fast phone, browsing the web and opening up apps
-battery life is best from my experience, can easily get by with one day with moderate/heavy use with leftover juice
I'm just trying to decide wich one to keep with the help of people who already have the charge and can talk about the pros and cons of the phone. Thanks again.
If the 4g is not that important to you, then your current phone has better hardware except for the screen.
I personally don't know how I survived without 4g for this long.

I have the Charge primarily for the screen. After all, any time im using the phone, im looking at the screen, making it the most used piece of hardware on the device besides the radios. Its plenty fast for me as well.

Im telling you that super amoled really spoils you. That is the one thing that is really making me be in the middle between the two. After having one and going back to a LCD is hard, really looks washed out, plain and boring.
lol, funny how companies get your attetion/business.

agreed...4 g is faster than my wifi right now. Screen is SICK. Can't go to a bionic from this, only a 4g GSII. If it exists.
I hate to say it but I'm getting the d3. I'm going to sell this phone. I hate how slow it is and knowing samsung updates won't come fast leaks are great but leaks are leaks. 4g is killing my battery and I'm always on wifi anyways. And oh who doesn't miss the keyboard. Locked isn't a problem im sure it will be unlocked the same way the atrix was and motorola left fastboot on it which means there is more to come. Just my opinion and i know the trolls will come.

r2DoesInc has a Charge and is going to work on porting OMGB and OMFGB to it, so we'll have at least those for AOSP ROMs then. Once one AOSP ROM is done and working, it should be easier to port others to the phone then as well. It will happen at some point, the only problem is, it could take a while to happen.
To put things in context, the Fascinate, which came out about 10 months ago and is extremely similar to the Charge specs-wise, has just -- literally in the past few days -- gotten more-or-less fully functional CM7.
As far as the Incredible 2 goes, it's a decent but thoroughly underwhelming phone considering it came out so recently. Single-core, no 4G, okay but not great screen...it really is more comparable to the Fascinate than to the Charge or Droid X2.
Honestly, if you have a choice, you'd be better off waiting for the Droid Bionic, which will finally mate a dual-core processor with 4G.
i tell you 4g is so sweet. I came from a dx and i knew the bonic was coming out when i bought the charge. I dont regret at all upgrading. As i hated Blur and there screens are bad. TouchWiz is not that bad to me. I think you will be very happy with the charge. I am rooted and on humble 1.3 and voodoo kernel and my benchmarks are as high as my droid x on Gingerbread. I dont see qhy everyone loves Motorola after owning my charge.
Good luck buddy
I'm running gummy charged 1.4 its aosp and running 2.3.4. great Rom and really smooth. but you have
To flash 1.0 through Odin to get the right radio.

I am so very confused. I have the droid charge. I had a droid 1 for the past year, I rooted it a hundred times or so with all different roms. it was very easy. I cannot for the life of me find on here or droid forums how to root the charge with no other changes. I guess there isnt a way yet? I really LOVE 4G. I have seen speeds up to 12 Mbs. And twice that fast posted by others like in Dallas area. I am a truck driver I am in and out of 4G areas all the time. I have a situation where I had to pay for the tethering right now my son was in a terrible crash and we have been in the Vanderbilt hospital in Nashville since Sat. $30 for 2Gigs...ugh. I need root. lol. I have searched and searched. I do not understand the oodin method. I really have tried to find what im looking for just unable right now. ty in advance
Odins the only way

Yeah, you definitely have to be willing to flash a rom to this phone, Sammy's stock software is awful. I don't think I could own the thing without a custom rom and lagfix applied.

how do these roms run compared to stock? I have seen the pictures but no videos, maybe somebody can post one and compare it to something else. Honestly the droid inc 2 has got pretty much the same specs as the charge exept no 4g and more ram. The thing that I love about the charge is that it will be future proof with the 4g and the lovely screen.
How about the droid 3? anybody seen one yet? It just seems appealing because of the dual core and front camera, but I would hate the extra bulkiness from the keyboard. So hard to decide on a phone which will be a solid phone for the 2 years.

Well I would've said yes 2 weeks ago but tbaldens ice from makes so the phone so fast and ics is so awesome so I would say no but if you don't care about development then go for it

Atrix 2 seems kind of nice. I'm not a fan of motorola, but the specs are decent. U might wanna look into the forums for that phone and see if there's any issues for the users

I would have a month ago as well.
I'm getting the GSM Galaxy Nexus in February...
And my sis needs the keyboard on this phone or I would trade
Also there are some promising ROMs looking to be released soon for this device that I'm intrigued in.

Nope. Undeadk9 has several stable ROMs that push this device very far.

I'll second this, definitely swing by the forums for the other phone and see what's going on with it, it'll help you make your decision.

Getting to the top of the benchmarks that you wrote yourself doesn't make your product actually good. Tegra is nvidia TRASH, along with their history of being total douchebags over hardware documentation and the likes. Complete contempt for everything that makes sense.

Listen I know qualcomm makes snap dragon chips. HTC just always uses them. Tegra ran smoother for me on every device I've used.

I would not trade. I'm a hardware buttons and hardware keyboard kind of guy.
That said, I can't stand the MT4GS keyboard. Half the time I press space, I get tactile feedback. Half the time I get tactile feedback, I don't get a space in the text I'm typing.
The Shift, Alt, Enter keys are not where I expect them (one row too high). Let's face it, I'm still in love with my G1's keyboard. Maybe if I could turn my G1 into a bluetooth keyboard, and make the MT4GS accept it as such... possible?
I tried out the Sidekick (much worse, specs-wise)(but hella cheap at the time and still a vast improvement over the G1) and even its keyboard -- while more like what I'm used to -- wasn't quite what I could get on board with.
But no, I wouldn't trade the MT4GS for any other phone currently being sold by T-Mo. Haven't looked at other providers at all.
Id take an Amaze or GSII over my Doubleshot. It was a major let down, I've had 3 chances for those phones. But I'm just waiting for CM9, this kinda is the only duel core KB phone. But for a Atrix 2. Hella No.

Yes I read about someone doing this with their g2 for games because they prefer that keyboard.

no the mytouch is a good phone with a great camera
I would only trade for an equal or better spec wise cell with the tilting screen n keyboard of the touch pro 2.
i just bought a mt4g to replace my g2. i prefer a hw keyboard. i do alot of email and texting and an onscreen keyboard doesnt feel right to me. im hoping htc will release a new phone with a hw keyboard soon

I hope the next one is the S4 Snapdragon processor, no need for another until then. I like this one and intend to enjoy it for a while, or until HTC puts out an S4 hardware keyboard one.

I rather have my rooted G2 over a S-On non-rooted doubleshot. There was a fuse that went that renders my screen useless on the G2. I bought this because it was easier to find and the specs are much better. The keyboard is backwards though and a huge let down. Still, its some what useable most of the time. This phone is pretty useless without root. Damn kid upgraded the phone hours before I bought it after I told him not to prior to the purchase. I miss root!

Were I that worried about it myself, I'd have told him he lost out on a sale by doing that after having been told not to. But then, I'd've been using a G1 since October 2008, and wouldn't've minded the extra wait for a decent replacement. Obviously your situation was different; just sayin.
