[Q] Desk dock that gets detected by the Desire - Desire Accessories

Hello all,
While I can find a car dock that gets detected as such by the Desire (or I can build one myself), I struggle to find a desk dock that gets detected by the Desire.
By detected, I mean that an application like Tasker or Locale gets notified it's on the desk dock and then can react to it.
Does anyone know if that exists? Or if it can be done by some special wiring of the ID pin on the Micro USB plug?
Regards
Olivier

Well, I can't answer your question but I managed to get past it with an app called bluedock. It forces car mode when paired to a specific device (like handsfree) via BT.

REQ: freeware Bluetooth-toggle at carkit power

I've seen the question (and the answers) several times here; But not for freeware versions.
The request is quite simple: Automatically turn on the Bluetooth when HD2 is placed in active carholder, so it recieves power. And BT off again, after removing from power.
Several paid programs can do it with profiles. But I don't need all the profiles, just one nifty little app to do the BT-toggle-at-power-toggle-trick. Bluepower should do the trick, but that doesn't work on HD2 sadly.
I allready placed a shortcut at the todayscreen, but it can be done automatically, so it should be done automatically. (you get the idea? It CAN be done, so it HAS to be done... )
Anyhow: does anyone know of a freeware app that does the trick, turning on BT at power-connected, and off again at power-disconnected?
Thanks in advance!
looking for this too!
fantastic idea, i see no reason for bluetooth to be disabled when connected to a power supply.if anyone can do it xda can!
google this
kixass bluepower
It worked for me , while I still had the Touch Diamond and Touch HD
Haven't tried it on HD2, but, hopefully it will work
I allready found kixass bluepower, but another thread here on XDA says it doesn't work on HD2 due to different Bluetooth methods:
http://xda-developers.mobi/viewPost.php?id=599980&PHPSESSID=b4f4cf54198fe7e540312d95fbb088aa
@SMS92: it's the other way around: connect to power = BT on, disconnect = BT off. (Hence power comes from the active carholder, but the audio-signal is connected via BT)
I'm not sure if i understand you correctly but don't you mean ?
Settings > All settings > System > Car kit mode > "Auto connect when in car kit mode" ??
greetz,
Plaspop
No, for that the bluetooth allready has to be on (Or am I mistaken? EDIT: YES!!!! I'm mistaken!!)
I'd like the BT to be off all day, except when I'm in the car. For that's the only place where I use BT. After getting out of the car the BT should be switched off again.
In order to do this automatically the phone needs to know whether I'm in the car. The easiest trigger for that is the power-connection, as I place the phone in an active phone holder (Brodit). This action could then trigger BT to switch on automatically, and removing the phone from the holder (and therefore from the power) should switch BT off again.
(The BT is used to connect to the built-in carkit in the Mazda 6), Power to the phone is supplied via the active carholder, which ONLY gives power, no audio-connection.
EDIT!!! OOOOW WAIT!!!!! YOU ARE RIGHT!!!!!!
WOW!!!! So simple.....
(Settings > All settings > System > Car kit mode > "Auto connect when in car kit mode")
So no special app needed, no profiles, no reg-changes, just a mere setting.
I LOVE HTC! Soooo much clever things in this HD2!
Just tested: BT off, connect to carpower: BT switched on automatically. Remove from power: BT switches off again. So this works!!!
(I didn't have time to test actually connecting to the car in this modus, but normally it works, so I assume this last bit works too.
You're my hero! (ok, that's a bit exegerated, but you get the idea) THANKS!
EDIT: see post below for last status.... sh*t.....
Ehr...... Sh*t.... My Brodit holder doesn't connect the right pins to trigger the carmode, and therefore the BT doesn't automatically switch on.
My desktop loader uses a converter cable, and that one DOES trigger the carmode
So.... sorry, no solution yet....
Found this in another thread. Could this help you ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3367344
Thanks, but no, that doesnt work on the HD2.
Has something to do with changed Bluetooth system in the HTC models after the touch?
A similar request thread has been started here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=667901&goto=newpost
Im following it too, and hope it will lead to development of a cab for this much wanted function.
I don't know how the carmode works, but issn't it possible to edit the registry to activate the carmode when the phone is on any kind of charger, instead of when some pin is connected? Then you would combine two functions witch are already on the phone.
Brodit activation of car kit mode
Has anyone succeeded in getting the Brodit car holder to automatically activate NaviPanel?? I see in other posts that if pin 4 of the micro USB is grounded it auto switches NaviPanel - has anyone else tried this yet?

Official car dock, and how to switch to dock mode

Hi
I've heard that there is an official car dock coming which will switch the phone into car dock mode. Does anyone have any idea how this might be done? Someone on one of the other forums tried shorting some pins in the usb connector but without success.
Could it be through magnets like some other phones? Does anyone have any ideas about how the phone is signalled which mode it should be in?
I'm using an app to change modes at the moment, but it would be lovely if I could do it all in hardware.

can you tell me what app you use to change modes please? i've been trying to find it for ages now
I'm still not sure about how the modes are recognized yet, although I know it's done within the USB somehow, there are no magnetic switches in the Desire.
And for the apps, there are a few to choose from.
Nexus - CarHome.apk
EVO- NavPanel.apk
DeskClock.apk (there are a few different ones) for "HomeDock"
And there is an app to launch the 2 different apps manually; DockSimulator.apk.
You should be able to find all of the above in this forum, DockSimulator can be found in the market.
It's really frustating...
I've had a play around again with the data lines, but no matter what I do with them all I seem to be able to do is trigger PC mode. Some people have said that by wiggling the micro usb they can sometimes trigger the car mode. COuld it be something to do with the 5th pin on the micro usb connector?
I guess we may just have to wait until the official dock launches, and then try to reverse engineer it. I don't really like the look of it, as I don't want a suction mount and I'm very happy with the fixed Brodit cradle.
Using the dock simulator is a good second best, especially in conjunction with the free 'Car Dock' app available from the market. It seems to switch the phone into a mode where it never locks and the backlight is permanently on. It also switches on speakerphone mode by default, although I use a bluetooth kit instead.
Any further thoughts on where to look?
James
If You use a bluetooth kit I'm sure You can figure out the way to launch car dock mode once paired to Your bluetooth car device. I know for sure, that You can simulate car dock when the phone is charging using Locale.
As an update, I've found a great app on the market called 'Bluedock' which does exactly this. It triggers car dock mode when connected to a bluetooth headset (you can specify exactly which of the paired devices, so you it only triggers when in the car), and optionally when connected to power. Mine is set up so when it's in the charging cradle, and connected to the handsfree kit, it switches into car dock mode.
Well worth $1! The author also has written a free car dock replacement app also on the market which I'd also really recommend.
Now listed on Clove.co.uk
I haven't checked whether anyone's commented on it already but the official car dock is now listed on Clove
It does state that the NaviPanel is automatically activated when the phone is docked ...for my money it's dead expensive though.
Still listed as pre order on clove, i am guessing it will come out after the next desire update which will have the navigation software built in.
Wouldn't mind a price drop when it is officially released!
pure speculation tho!

Diamond [cheap] car kit solution. Need some software upgrade...

Hi. I wanted a cheap solution for mounting my (soon to be replaced) HTC Touch Diamond in my car with the fewest cables possible (I need to mention here that I don't want to use a car mounter and a car charger...the whole idea is to just slip the phone in when you enter the car. I also found the beautiful solutions from brodit or carcomm or adapt but these are a lot more expensive).
So I found this desktop charger (photo downstairs) at 20$ on ebay that I intend to glue somewhere in my car. All good ...
BUT, I was wondering if it would be possible to use a third-party software (if such exists) or to modify some registry entries so that when I connect my phone to the charger, it would automatically modify the phone answering options and a phone call could be answered by pressing any hard key (like the up-down volume keys on the side) or at least switch to that existing option when the phone auto-answers after a set period of time (0-120 sec.). These should be disabled after the phone is disconnected!
Also, in order to use the above-mentioned features, after the phone is answered it should automatically switch to speaker mode.
So...what do you guys think...is this science-fiction ???
bump...
Handsfree
you can plug it into a car charger and then pair the phone with one of those new solar powered bluetooth handsfree kits that you attach to your sun visor. EBAY!

[Q] Is it Possible to have the MM Dock mode pop up instead of the Car Dock mode?

Is there an app or mod that allows me to have the Multimedia dock app engage rather than the car dock "app" when I sit my phone in my car dock.
Or are there special pins in the hardware usb port to only operate its specific app? Thanks
Anybody or should I ask this in the Dev forum?

[Q] USB-micro USB 5 pin for car mode?

Are there any aftermarket USB to micro-USB cables with the shorted 4/5 pins that will activate the S4 and put it into car mode?
And are there any Y-cables with the shorted 5-pin micro-USB cable to activate car mode, AND output sound from the S4's micro-USB to a line out?
Basically the same cable that's sold with the iBolt? I'm just looking to buy the cable and not the entire dock/cable.
Okay I found this cable after reading a similar thread under the Note II subforum.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-Charger...ader_Chargers_Sync_Cables&hash=item53f0a73387
Has anyone tried this for the S4 stock kernal yet?
Hmm seems iBolt sells it's own cable also.

Hi,
this is the cable you're looking for:
http://www.ebay.it/itm/261278306020?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
when connected, switch S4 to Dock Mode, even if not connected to a power source.
I use in my car, in conjunction with Tasker to automate cardock mode.
Bye

Does the cable put the S4 into car mode? I think there's a difference between car mode and dock mode right? A lot of the car dock programs like iBolt's own app can do certain things when it's in car mode (and not dock mode). I can turn on Dock Mode via settings or drop down notification menu, but there's no way to turn on Car Mode. Funny thing is, the CarHome app turns on Car Mode when it launches even without a cable.

Hi,
connecting the cable, your phone will go in Dock Mode, and I setup stock option of the Phone to do Nothing when dock cable is connected.
Then I setup Tasker, to detect when phone go in Dock Mode. With Secure Settings and Tasker I can put phone in Car Mode. Please note that Samsung's Car Mode, is not Android Native Cardock, so you need to workaround this.
Due this limitation i cannot use a Dock on My desk. This Because my phone will go in car mode when connected to a dock.
You can workaround this, if you have a Bluetooth Radio on the car.
With Tasker you can Detect Dock Cable and turn on Bluetooth, and trigge car mode when your car hands free will be connected.
Marco
So I ordered that USB cable from eBay and it works very well! It automatically puts the phone into Dock Mode when plugged in.
I have the phone set to launch CarHome Ultra when it goes into Dock Mode, and CarHome Ultra actually turns on Car Mode automatically when it launches. It can also be set to turn on the phone's Drive Mode if you want, and it turns on Bluetooth, and turns off WiFi also.
So now I just plug the phone into the USB charger, it launches CarHome Ultra automatically, turns on Car Mode and Bluetooth which then pairs with my car's bluetooth. I even have the home button working so that it goes back to CarHome Ultra when pressing the home button (using Xposed framework with EnableCarDock module on stock, rooted odexed Sprint S4).
Too bad my car's bluetooth is older and does not have the media playing profile so I can't stream the phone's sound via bluetooth. I'd either have to use the headphone out to the car's auxillary (works great but bluetooth phone can't be used when the headphone jack is in use - stupid Samsung!), or buy another bluetooth to auxillary device just for music/sound streaming, or buy iBolt's Y-cable (which many people seem to report poor sound quality or lots of noise).
The S2 Car Dock doesn't work with the S4
For the folks out there wondering whether an old original Samsung Galaxy S2 (i9100) car dock will work with the S4, assuming one could somehow shoehorn the S4 into it: Nope, It doesn't work. The S4 doesn't enter "Car Mode" as one would expect.
I didn't actually use a shoe horn - I took apart my old Galaxy S2 Car Dock and plugged the phone into the base once I had it separated from the holder.
I figure that Samsung either disabled the mode on the S4 or they changed the resistor value in the S4 so that it is different from the S2.
... or my S2 car dock is dead (unlikely).
It is frustrating that Samsung hasn't released a "proper" Car Dock for the S4 yet, like the kind they had for the S2. The one they do sell is a rip-off and a PITA to use with it's separate "charger" and "holder". There are a few vendors out there with "active" car docks for the S4, but I haven't tried any yet.
The S4 kernel was not configured with Car Dock mode enabled. Most cables have a 635k resistor for car dock mode and won't work on the S4. Only home dock mode is enabled and needs a 320k resistor (values might be different).
