Hi everyone I am new to the forum but have been reading through the threads and it seems there is more knowledge on hear than available on HTC's tech support hotline so hear goes.
My micro sd card that came with my DHD and that had all the map data on for locations navigation completely died and wouldnt even show up on my pc. (ran a couple of recovery progs to but to no avail).
I have downloaded the mapping software when prompted to onto a new msd card but the POI are not showing up and says "no locations found", also if I do a destination search for an address, town or city it is the same. But If I manually browse the map it looks like all the POI are there with all the info about them when highlighted.
Any help would be much appreciated
Hi everyone I am new to the forum too but have been reading through the threads trying to find a solution to the very same problem as above. There is more knowledge here than available on the geek squad who twice suggested a master reset.
My micro sd card on my DHD completely died too and wouldnt even show up on my pc, but it did come back to life eventually when trying it back in my DHD. After trying a master reset I searched for clues as to what to do. I even deleted a number of times, the contents of the data directory as decribed on one of the threads here, re-booted the DHD and re-installed the locations. Still no POI or other stuff that should be seen.
Eventually I went into Locations widget and tapped on the pin, taking me to a map of Taiwan. I opened the menu and tapped on "Get more". tapping on maps button I searched the list for my maps, in my case United Kingdom and downloaded them, 532 MB which took quite a while even over WiFi. Once downloaded all the POI were there in the list and on the maps. Locations gave my location instead of a longitude/latitude location and it no longer displayed "Updating".
I hope this helps you christofy and others if you should be unfortunate enough to lose data from your sd card. Do back it up. Afraid I still haven't.

I have re-cooked the latest official HTC ROM, however it is pretty tame and doesn't (I don't think?) contain anything that should lock the whole thing up. However I am suffering IE issues where the phone is just locked and inoperable, the only resolution is to soft reset - it is really annoying.
I am using IE over my broadband WiFi and other stuff seems to works OK (Windows Live sync, 1-Calc currency download, Office Communicator 2007). If I launch IE and the click one of the favourites it starts but inevitably 'locks' when the 'Opening' begins.... Sometimes the page starts to load, but then locks, other times it just locks as soon as 'Opening' appears.

I think it's my customisations....
I have IE set to use the Storage Card for everything and I think it's this that is causing the issue...
This is what I have set:
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders]
"Cache"="\\Storage Card\\Temporary Internet Files"
"History"="\\Storage Card\\History"
"Cookies"="\\Storage Card\\Cookies"
The folders are there and there is stuff in all of them.
I have just deleted the settings from the registry and reset and it now appears to work OK
Is this a known issue with the Kaiser and IE/Storage Card?

That is definitely your issue, it's a known cause of IE lockups to put the cache on your storage card.
In the future, these kind of questions should be posted in the Kaiser Software, or General forum, and not the Rom Development forum. Also, it would probably have been a better idea to just post this question in the thread for whatever rom you were using or a thread about this issue if you could find it, rather than creating a new thread.
Glad your phone is working now.
I can also confirm that storing, cache, hsitory, etc. on the storage card is the issue. I also use Tiny Twitter, and it would NOT update anything, with all the "store this IE stuff on my storage card" settings. Once I changed that back to main memory, all was right with the world.
Thanks for the replies & confirmation

I have here a GolD GPS, model GDGPS3.5''.
I'm sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong are or the wrong forum even, but I don't know where else to look.
I'm trying to install a new Cardinale version, that is, the 3.0 Black. The device has, up until now, used the original SD card with an older IGo version. As mentioned, I'd like to update the maps and the software used to Cardinale, and since the original card is too small to do anything useful with it, I've bought a new one.
In order to install the new cardinale, I need to simply copy it to the card, load it with the device along with the maps and languages I need, and run it from the device, yes?
My problem is as follows - once I turn the device on, it gets stuck on the company splash screen. No errors, no Windows, no messages, just a splash screen and nothing loads. In order to run it, I would need it to load its system so I can navigate to the exe file, but I get nothing but a splash screen?
Could it be that the device is locked in such a way not to recognize anything beyond its original software? If so, how would I go about unlocking it? The device has Win CE. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
P.S. doing some more checking, I found that it uses Nav N Go Igo from 2006, if this info is of any use.
I have now downloaded a new version of Nav N Go Igo and attempted to copy it to the new card. The device still refused to even begin loading.
I then backed up all the contents of the old SD, copied them exactly as they were to the new SD, and then tried loading, hoping to be able to still load the old software, but just add new maps to the now bigger SD.
It finally loaded it, but upon getting past the splash screen it sad "HardwareIDerror" and prompted me to shut down the device, not letting me do anything else.
It seems the device in locked to one and only one card, the original 256MB card that came with it, and refuses to accept others even if they have the identical content. Is there any way to unlock it and make it accept other cards without throwing the Hardware ID error?
P.S. another thing that might be of importance : whether the device works or not, I'm not presented with the WinCE interface. I have no start menu, no icons to click. All I get when the device is turned on properly, is the simple Nav N Go application, ready to go, without letting me choose anything else. I can't shut down the app alone and get back to WinCE, because I never was given access to WinCE.

Hi! About that gps you got problems with, i have one now same model and with the same problem. have you got any solution fot it? did you managed to get rid of that splash screen and enter in the WinCE? i am very curious .
I was doing a trick. when shutting down the igo program it gave me a screen and i was holding the screen tapped and creating a new folder. open the new folder and from there through the explore bar get into WinCE filesystem. After that remove the SDcard with iGO6 and put in the iGO8 map updated and open it manually from the system.
If you know any solution to get rid of this entire ritual please i would be gratefull if you would let me know
Respect!
Guys,
I have the following problem with HTC's "locations" app.
I was downloading some maps, and some are rather large (GBs). At somepoint my phone got switched off. When it switched on, I was notified that the downloads had not completed. So I select to continue. But the downloads immediately jump to pause and I get the download warning notification, telling me of the incomplete download.
I thought that this probably is related to corrupt on the map files that I trie dto download. Since these are supposed to be on the TF card (mini SD card, whatever you wanna call it), I cannot find them anywhere. Since its an unrooted phone (and i want to keep it that way), I cannot see if they are stored in the phone's internal memory, and I certainly do not want to go through a full reinstall of everything again by doing a factory reset.
Can anyone tell me how I can solve this problem?
is this an actual problem of the application (HTC Locations) or is it a problem with potentially corrupt downloads (in which case, where are they and how do I remove them), or could it be something else?
Can I uninstall HTC locations and reinstall it again, or does this just affect the app itself, not the maps?
any help would be appreciated
Thanks,
K
Hi,
Never thought my first post may be informative but I want to share the events as it may help others.
I'm new to smart phones (first one Elephone P3000s) last phone I had was a Nokia 3310s and I had that for a long time!
I know, so this piece of electronic communication wonder in my hand is quite the thing and has me wide eyed and legless at times.
Yesterday I was updating contacts and generally doing some housekeeping on my new smart phone. I also wanted to create more room on my sd card so moved MapFactor: GPS Navigation data from SD card to main phone storage, using the apps built in option to do this.
I then deleted the folder on the sd card.
Later after lots of playing about, what "She who makes lumpy custard" describes 'housekeeping' as. I noticed that I had the red symbol where my cell phone signal is normally expressed.
My first though was oh no what's wrong with this phone. What followed was search after search but everything I found related to particular phone makers and models but I didn't find anything that was more generic to my issue. Bed called and the search continued this morning but to no avail.
I then decided to reverse everything I'd done as I do remember seeing something somewhere that mentioned navigation as a possible cause. I uninstalled MapFactor: GPS Navigation, still my cell signal would appear as good then fail after 10 seconds or so.
OK reinstall MapFactor: GPS Navigation, still the same as above, so I decided to move MapFactor: GPS Navigation data back over to the sd card.
Did that and low and behold I have my cell signal back and it's been stable all day so far.
I have no idea why this issue exists or if I'll ever be able to move the data back to phone storage, that's an experiment for later.
If anyone can throw some light on this I'd be interested to know. If I can provide anything to assist just ask.
I hope this may help someone else recover from a loss of SIM card and remind everyone that we the "Human Elephant" are more likely to be the cause of these fine pieces of engineering failing than the fine pieces of engineering themselves.
If this post is deemed, by a higher authority, to be better placed elsewhere feel free.
If anyone is helped by this, bless you and don't forget to thank me, it'll probably be the one and only assistance I'm able to offer as there are many younger and brighter lights burning in these forums than this old candle.

Kernel 3.4.67
Nice share
I just bought a 6.2. Ridiculously huge phone. I have trouble believing this is now considered a small phone. The huge screen is a plus while I'm stuck at home. It'll get annoying quick once we get back out into the world.
There seems to be something wrong with sqlite on the phone. F-Droid repeatedly crashes with a grab bag of sqlite errors - "file is not a database." "Loc header is corrupted." - going from memory here, because most of the time the message flashes by on the way to the "Would you like to e-mail the details to help fix the issue?" screen. Everytime OI Shopping List starts up, it thinks it's being started for the first time and goes through the "choose your preferred layout setup." Any created shopping lists are gone. The default one is empty. I can't say for sure this is the same problem, but it seems related.
Does anybody know of an app to stress-test sqlite creation on the phone? Or, even better - how to fix this?
Follow-up. Sqlite errors in Aldiko, too. Setup from first install is gone. After putting all my info back in, I attempted to download a book from the library and got "Import failed [file is not a databse (code 26 SQLITE_NOTADB)]" - one of the same errrors that F-Droid gives. Something is very wrong with this phone.
No help on the internet beyond some applications showing the same behavior, all solved years ago.
Nokia support did not find the problem, and after a soft reset and factory reset, told me to send the phone in for repair. "Two week turnaround, just go to this website, fill out your details, print out the paper, tape it to your phone and bring it to the nearest Fedex office. No cost to you!"
However, on the setup after the factory reset, there was a message about my SD card being too slow and could cause problems being used as a phone storage device. The message was not there during the original setup. It's a Samsung SDXC 1. Not that old, or slow, but removing it solved the problem. Maybe my previous phone corrupted it as a parting shot.
