Many people using the Power Control Widgets that I ported inquired about the ability to control the behavior of the various toggles that are available, such as Brightness Levels, Screen Timeout, Sound Modes (silent/vibrate/etc), Flashlight Modes (death ray/normal), as well as the ability to dynamically set the indicator bar on/off color below each widget (nice!).
So, I began investigating how this was controlled in CM. After some digging, I found the applicable locations where these options are controlled and began hacking away at making a stand alone application available that would present the above referenced configuration options to those using this mod, while eliminating all the various other options not applicable to this mod.
This is an extreme hack to make work, but I am proud to say that I have v1.0 available and ready for download. I say v1.0, as there are additional options I want to make available via this application that are not yet present, but I wanted to put out what I have now. This bad boy took some major surgery to get working on our Sense ROMs, requiring me to pull out a lot of tricks in my hacking arsenal, and I'm almost as proud of it as the actual port itself!
In addition to the above referenced features currently in place, I also hope to add the option to turn widgets on/off all together, as well as dynamically choose which widgets to display, in lieu of, or in addition to, the current widget.txt file.
The application, once flashed, is named 'PowerControl Settings', and when looking for it in your app drawer, utilizes the following icon:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And following are some screen captures of the options available / referenced above:
It should be noted that if your ROM dev customized your widgets to a fixed color for the indicator bars (if they are not a default cyan blue, they are fixed to a different color), that the dynamic indicator color feature shown above will NOT work, since, as mentioned, it has been hardcoded to be a specific color. This would have to be undone, or you could flash a stock version from the mod thread to get back the dynamic option.
Download PowerControl Settings Application v1.1 <--- Flash via Recovery to install
Update 1/30/22: Small tweak to the app made to prevent appearance of RenderFx in widgets selection list, since this widget does not apply to this mod and should not appear.
Of course, it is important to mention / thank the CM team for the original application of which this port is based.
NOTE: If you plan to use the 'toggleScreenTimeout' widget, now that you can control timeout levels via this PowerControl Settings app, I had to adjust the available intervals, as CM offers different timeout intervals than what are available in Sense ROMs (making it incompatible). This required an edit to the services.jar file only, as such, I have created a patched services.jar file (v2.1.1) available for download at the bottom of the mod thread. It is only necessary to flash this if you wish to use the 'toggleScreenTimeout' widget.
Nice.. thank you!
Very cool!
awesome work like always John!
going to download now
All I can say is Nice Work! Is this something that will work on the Widgets ported for Inc Roms?
man, this is great! you just keep pumping out these great mods! thanks for your commitment to the Evo
You keep out doing yourself. THANKS
Excellent stuff! Thanks for sharing your work. Humble request: Sound+Vib/Sound/Vib/Silent.
Nice.
Will future versions allow full customization of the widget itself such as background appearance, buttonize appearance, icons, etc.?
thank u man... good stuff.
much like everyone else is wondering though... will u implement a feature that will change the widgets on the bar also?
personally im not worried about it... but i do wonder.
worked great, just as expected.
i love being able to set the flashlight to death ray. that's the only way i use it!
and being able to change the color of the indicator bar worked great and allowed me to find a better matching blue than the one I had set via smali
you're the man!
Again, as I said in my post in your original thread, this APP is by far the BEST APP I have on my EVO..... Adding these features just added more sugar to an already tasty treat!
(any chance you plan on ever making a buttonized version like you had in the original one?)
You da man!! Will test this out after work today!

I want to keep the widget.txt option in place, so that you can use it to control the order of the widgets. Then, if not present, default down to the toggles checked via the application for which widgets to display (order can't be controlled). This adds another layer of complexity to the code that is making it more difficult, so I removed the check box options all together in v1.0, and as mentioned, hope to add this later.

This would take both a new application and a new framework file, which just isn't feasible to try and maintain a bunch of different versions for personal preference, etc.

I'm pretty sure some good gents in the mod thread have already ported my original.
This looks tantalizing. Any reason it wouldn't run on an Incredible with Virtuous 3.2? (Guess I could always give it a whirl, but I thought I'd ask first).

I have to be honest with you, I very rarely acknowledge / answer these questions for a few reasons.
One, I don't own that phone, and two, why not just try it and let us know?
I see no reason why it wouldn't work though.

Lol, talk about not seeing the forest through the trees. I assumed he already had the widgets running via a port Yes, this is a helper application for the already installed power control widgets in the notification window.

Downloading it now.. it looks beautiful .. awesome work man
aaah, dang... I thought this was a WIDGET...
If the carousel remained on my home screen and allowed me to swipe up/down to go from apps to games to fav people, etc... I'd pay quite a bit for it...
ALSO!! Here is a good idea...
Why not make it so that the crousel automatically adjusts for the number of shortcuts assigned to it?
I/E: instead of adding 4 shortcuts and getting those and 12 "Stars"... just have the 4 shortcuts showing; evenly spaced.
To support development; i purchased the full version!

You don't have to take any special action. This is how the application looks like. If something looks different, there's probably some issue with OpenGL on your phone.
Try playing with the background and transparency settings (Menu -> Settings)
Try completely transparent and opaque backgrounds and see if it helps.
If you're still having issues, e-mail me, Let me know what phone and what Android version you're using, and I'll check if there's anything I can do.
This is great stuff LiorG, though when opening the settings menu I can't seem to interact with it sometimes, and the times I can I have to wait a good few minutes beforehand. Other than that it's sweet!

The application should look like in the screen capture "out of the box", no need to do anything special.
What version of Android are you using? What ROM? What phone?
love it... but if you could add a feature for custom icons per carousel itd be the best. or even some predefined icons for say like games, tools, media, music, video, documents...

Make sure that all your contacts have a default number assigned to them. A default number is denoted by a small check-mark next to the number.
To assign one, open your phone's contact app, and view the desired contact, long-press a number and select "Make default number".
This happened automatically up to Android 1.6, but starting Android 2.0 it doesn't.
In the next update I will improve contact selection, and it won't count on the default number anymore.

Uninstall Instructions
For those that wish to uninstall, in most instances, you can just uninstall the app. If that doesn't work, than you can use Dutty's Default LockScreen App to reset to default HTC lockscreen. (I would post myself, but I don't want to be mistaken as the Author of his app.)
Energy ROM Advanced Feature
Thanks to NRG who created the Energy ROMs, those running Engergy ROMs have a nice feature that lets you switch between two different LockScreens with ease. By default, my LockScreen when installed will set itself as the default LockScreen on most ROMs. To switch back to the Energy ROM default, go to Settings > Personal and click on the icon for changing the LockScreen, reset your phone. After reboot the default is set again.
ADDONS for AndroidLock
(Click on an image to download the addon)
If you uninstall an addon, you must reinstall AndroidLock

Great message, i´m using v.0.9.1 a few days without problems. Only miss unread items but otherwise perfect screenlock.

Would have been really cool if the lockscreen could show a preview of a email or sms on the screen. Like s2u2.
Btw: You cant really swype the slider to unlock and then back. Seems to get stuck. And when pressing to screen to unlock the slider changes color slightly.

I'll have to port it to that rom, or if somebody else has the ability to do so, please do. From what I understand, Energy rom uses different files, currently this lockscreen will only overwrite the default HTC Lockscreens. I'll put that up in the first post.
Thanks again for the feedback, and I will work on getting this ported for energy rom users.

I'll make some adjustments to the slider to minimize the effect of it getting stuck.
As for the color issue, I'm not sure what that might be. It does not appear on my phone.
It may be that you see the slider fade and then fade back in, if that is the case there is not to much that can be done without me taking some transitions out. I will try a few things to try and minimize this.
If this is not the case please post a screen shot showing what you are seeing. Thank you

Very very nice Launcher! Thanks.
Looks realy great ;-9
If you installe HeLauncher, what about the HTC widgets?
Does the HTC widgets still work or is it like when you use ADWLauncher that most of them, eg. People Widget, don't work anymore?
It's not smooth, it lags really bad when scrolling.
Enable bounce option is pretty strange.
The concept is pretty good but it needs a lot of work to polish it. Keep up the good work !
Wow..
I like this
Im not sure if HTC widgets will work. I dont find any lag when scrolling at all really, but yeah its still being developed. Thanks for all the pos. Feedback.
I really do like this launcher however as with any app of fine taste there is room for improvement. I like how simplistic and light it is, and with the death of Zeam we need another launcher of this magnitude.
However there is a need for performance improvements for scrolling it seems to lag a bit and isn't as smooth as it should be being as lightweight as it is.
The next issue lies with the bounce effect and the ability to use both it and the screen position thing on the top. When using the bounce effect with it when it bounces it says you're on the right screen then when it bounces back it says you are back on the previous screen and then moves back to the appropriate location.

Yeah that is a Known issue being adressed. Didnt really know people had alot of lag when scrolling, def gunna try to get that fixed.
Looks nice.
I have made a widget in which you can choose to display time, date, system information or your own quote in an easy way.
The best thing about this widget is that you can choose between over 60 fonts, and more are coming.
The layout of the widget is made so that it should be as easy as possible to make a great looking widget.
You can customize 2 texts in the same widget.
You can set the XY position of the text, its size, color, shadow, shadow size and position, background options and much more.
I would love to get some feedback on bugs, settings, preferred fonts and more.

I like how you can preview what it will look like in all the different fonts instead of just the one you select at a time. I haven't downloaded it, but I was wondering if it allows you to pull fonts from your SD card? As I have a folder with all of my custom fonts.
Looks cool...how do I add more than 1 element to a widget.
e.g. Time + Date on one widget? Am I being dumb?

Right now you can't do that, but I will try to add that function in future updates.
If you want you can email me that folder, and I will add some of the fonts you have there to the widget

Right now you can't, so you are not dumb. I am working on how to add that function, without making the app UI to complex. If you have any idéas please share them with me

Yes, I agree - it would likely require quite a UI change... your UI is good by the way.
You could keep a similar UI I suppose... have an 'Add new object' (eg) to the 'Text' tab (Time/System/Quote) and then the 'Font' and 'Shadow' tabs could be context-sensitive to whatever item was selected on the 'Text' tab. You would need to indicate what object was highlighted on all tabs.
Then, 'Text' could become 'Preview' and the 'Background' tab could actually be merged with the 'Preview' tab.
Only an idea... happy to discuss...

I like the idéas. I have begun to implement a similar idéa. I will have 4 tabs, Text1, text2, text3, and background. Each text tab control one text object on the widget, and can fully customize it. Text options and shadow options have been integrated to one, in each text tab. And to make sure that the preeview image is visible at all times it has been fixed at the top, and only the settings are scrollable. The font tab will be remowed and replaced by a button which launches a pop-up with all selectable fonts. The background-tab will handle background and general setting that are the same for all the text objects.
I think this would be the easiest approach, concerning user friendliness.
What do you think?
This looks very impressive!

Thx man! And it will be even more interesting in the future!
The next update will be out soon, but I am bashing my head in the wall unable to solve a wierd bug:
On some phones the phone needs to be rebooted after the widget have been installed in order to make the widget update itself. You can add it once, but if you configure it and make changes, it wont take effect until you reboot the phone, and after that you can make as many changes as you like...
Any idéas?

Hi,
Any chance you can put a feature where the widget will display the contents of a specified file (eg: /sdcard/something.txt) with a customisable number of minues where the file will be re-read?
Thanks.
Hi, first of all...thanks for a great app. I've had several people ask me about it.
Secondly, is there a chance you could either make version 3.2 available or add the fonts that were removed from that version? I'm specifically looking for the font in the third screenshot in the first post.
Thanks.

Title says it all! I have a 4 day weekend coming up and my brain has been itching to develop a new rom.
With that being said, there are a few great roms out there (Misterxtc, Optimal Rom, Alliance Rom etc.) as well as the BL still being locked which limits what to come out with next.
This thread is for thoughts/requests of what YOU want to see in a ROM that is of course possible to do (Retail version S5.)
Please try to include stuff that is unique since I of course will do the basics such as lightly debloat (I will leave most in unlike my Symbiote Syndicate builds), native hotspot, toggles etc.
I will do my best to bring everything possible!
It will be a ROM for the people, by the people!
I will start on it Wed night!
Thanks for the input!
note: if you are a dev i might reach out for your specialties

As "Volkswagen" is the "peoples car", or folks wagen, you should name your ROM...... ready???
..
..
..
..
"Volksromen", or "peoples ROM". :laugh: :good:
I'm almost serious. Sounds awesome haha. Welcome back to ROMing :highfive:
lol reminds me of the old days "Calkulin" was awesome! I wonder if hes still around lol
Here is my wish list!
Stock-based ROM
Keep all Samsung feature functional (Multi-windows, Smart Stay, Power Saving and Ultra Power Saving, Fingerprint, Blocking Mode, Private Mode, Air View, Motion and Gestures, IR, Health features, etc...)
Remove or Freeze all Verizon Bloat
Maybe create some scripts to enable to disable each Verizon/Samsung features individually
Classic list of MODs baked into the files (no Xposed)
Tethering enabled, Read/Write SD Card, Flashlight, more Toggles, 3-way reboot,etc...
ODEXED ! (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2527268)
Some Note 4 features (like the nice App/Task Manager with Multi windows buttons)
Maybe some Dark/Black background theme

by script you mean to disable/enable samsung/vzw apks? the odexer should be easy and some note 4 stuff should b as well and the other stuff i was planning on it! not sure where i want to take the theming (extreme syndicate was black/white)
Just please keep the Verizon visual voice mail in the ROM...lol
Welcome back! Just downloaded syndicate again and was reading through everything. Kinda amazes me the reactions of some people.
Again...welcome back! Glad we still have people working with this phone
Sent from my SM-G900V using XDA Free mobile app

- I think we can do better than just freezing or uninstalling an apk, in some case there are some .lib and other files left behind, a set of scripts/SS/recovery flashable zip file that will remove or add back the feature and associated files.
- I'm thinking very light theming, just the default holo backgrounds to pure black and maybe the notifications to something like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
.
What about porting some simple xposed modules to native code ?
ill definately look into it! I know I changed icons and use blurred xposed module for notification window and i think it looks great! of course im also on my themed rom
if you want to see the icons im using look for moonshine icons on the play store
I'm definitely interested in Note4 functionality... The multi window, it would be cool to have the drag down function from the top right corner. Does that require things like the Note4 Camera and whatnot since only certain apps allow it? Action memo and S Note are great.

i will definitely look into what note 4 functionality i can bring!
One feature id like if possible on a touchwiz ROM would be the ability to pulldown the different panels based on the side of the status bar you pull down on... ie pull down on the left side and get notifications, pull down on right side and get toggle panel
Also maybe the option to not have the row of toggles on the notifications panel...
I would like to see the option to change status bar icons with a long list of different icons also be able to move all status bar icons. Also I would like to be able to change the icons and background of power menu. Maybe add 3minit battery mod and 3d toggles(from tulsadiver) Add option to change boot animations and sounds. I will think of a few more I'm sure
Sent from my SM-G900V using XDA Free mobile app
I'm slowly working on the ROM:
Based off Misterxtc latest ni2 with working art.
Has everything there plus note 4 themed settings, weather widget, my files, lockscreen, calculator etc.
Phone/contacts is next.. Need to fix FC on systemui, messages, & Bluetooth from settings
Settings have native app opps, download booster, torch toggles
Slightly debloated but everything intact just as stock
I plan on including the ps4 remote play port from the Xperia z3 as well
Im going to put a modded camera apk, build.prop tweaks, themed keyboard, some bootanimation, change sounds to note 4. I also plan to theme later on and looking at more stuff that is beneficial to the ROM. It'll be a beast but still maintain all stock features and be under 1gb
Later on custom lock status removed (I'm procrastinating with this
