I've seen a few threads concerning the potential issues with oleophobic coating. I found this on the web, and thought it might help clarify the misconceptions about this technology. Hope this helps!!

Hi! I am strongly considering the Skyrocket but I've always enjoyed the extra protection of Gorilla Glass screens. Any reason why they decided on glass screens for this model? And how is the screen holding up from day to day wear?
Thanks...
I'm confused by your post, are you asking why they decided on gorilla glass on this model? Cause you clearly said that you "enjoyed the extra protection of Gorilla Glass". If you want to know does it have gorilla glass, yes it does. And its holding up very well I use mine with no screen protector. Third phone i've had with Gorilla Glass and havent scratched one yet. Not to say that they cant be scratched, I just havent scratched one of mine.

Sorry for the confusion. I've read a few reviews that this phone does NOT have Gorilla Glass, so that is why I asked. So if you say it does, then I am sold on it.
This is where I saw one of the reviews that said no Gorilla Glass and it shows scratches (around the 1:35 mark):

From all the reviews I've read, PhoneArena is the ONLY publication that has said the SR doesn't have Gorilla Glass. It actually does. They probably just got a bad sample or something.
Thanks for all of the info...strongly considering this phone but have been tempted to try Windows Phone 7, in the form of HTC Titan too...
Some people seem to be confused about Gorilla glass too. From my understanding gorilla glass is scratch resistant, not scratch proof. So you still can end up scratching it.

This may help you find the answer you seek.
Gorilla Glass... scratches.
It's just difficult to break.
Just ordered two of 'em!
I think that video has been debunked. I have read somewhere that they actually scratched the screen themselves before putting it on the ground. Some of the comments for the video you linked specifically points out things like "something in his left hand" and "swiping his hand across the screen before sliding it on the ground".
Now, I'm not saying gorilla glass is indestructible, I think most people are aware that gorilla glass CAN be scratched under certain circumstances but I don't think it's as easy as they portray in that video.

As everyone is well aware, the One S has chipping issues. The question here is, what can you do to prevent it? The grey one doesn't cut it for me, its' brother One X is too big and pricey. Many probably share this thought, and have been looking at the black One S, only to find out this horrific problem. So, what can one do to prevent it, aside from HTC hopefully improving the coating?
Now there are these nano-coatings defending against dust and scratches, with or without additional help of screen-protectors. There are nano-sprays available to simply spray on the screen for it to form a protective layer. There are also coatings available which are able to protect phones from submersion in water - even though the coating is then extended to the inside hardware, of course. My question, however, is whether such coating can be used to defend the MAO coating on the One S. A few major questions arise here - what coating would work, which one would adhere to the material? What will the feel of the coating on the material be, would you end up with a plastic feeling phone, let alone the look of it? Or would there be a spray which works in small amounts, only providing a very small but effective protecting layer?
I was all hoping for black One S but after this chipping issue and a review on both where editor picked the grey one, now I am glad T-mobile USA is getting it instead of MAO
hey everyone is it possible to change the glass only on our phones? i have a few scratches and its driving me crazy! lol. ive read around and there seems to be nothing on it for our phones. only the gs2s. please any info would be awesome! thanks
It's possible but not easy, the glass is a complex with the lcd screen, you could separate them and glue your screen to a new glass, it has been talked about before so use the search.
You could try ghost armor it suppose to fill scratches and protect your screen from new ones.
where to buy glass to Norway!?
Thx xda friends

Stronger than regular glass. And strong in some respects, but not others. They are most vulnerable to edge or corner pressure. And nothing is indestructible, and Gorilla Glass is far from unbreakable. Plenty of folks have broken GG on this and other devices.

BTW just a quick question is it true that sand and dust can scratch it since silica is harder than the glass composition or is it a very rare case?

I don't know the exact hardness of Gorilla Glass, but quartz (the most common form of silica) as well as other minerals falls higher on Mohs hardness scale than glass, and therefore has the ability to scratch it.
Also remember that GG is only claimed to be damage resistant and scratch resistant. Its not claimed to be impossible to scratch, by any stretch.
Many folks will be rough with their phones, have no protection, and never get a scratch on the screen. But a significant number of folks have posted on here to have gotten scratches on GG with normal usage. Although almost certainly in the minority or even uncommon, its something I would not consider a "very rare case".
If you are worried about it, but a protector on. Whether to use a protector is a very personal decision. I know lots of folks hate them, and go successfully without. But to me, its a very minimal (if any) change to appearance and feel if you use a quality one; and worth it for the peace of mind. The thing about scratches, is that once it happens it really can't be undone.

Hello XDA Community. I am starting this thread as a Q&A to discuss a proper and well built Tempered Glass PRIVACY Screen Protector. Thus far I have scoured the internet far & wide to come up with only ONE reliable source to provide this item:
Otterbox Alpha Glass Privacy: http://www.otterbox.com/en-us/galaxy-note7/alpha-glass-screen-protector/sam38-galaxy-note-7.html#tab5
Hopefully Otterbox keeps to their promise to deliver soon as I keenly rely on PRIVACY screen protectors due to my line of work in security when traveling. I am also keeping my eyes on ZAGG however they have yet to announce anything of sorts towards bringing a PRIVACY tempered glass to market. Please comment as needed and let your voices be heard alike on this topic. :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
