Hi,
I am just about to send off a few htc phones that I had lying about the house, it just occurred to me that I have custom roms on 3 of them.
The phones are fully working, turn on and off etc. and it doesn't mention anything about custom roms on their terms and conditions page but I was hoping someone might have the answer to this.
I can't really be bothered having to start searching for stock roms for each of the phones. I'm hoping I don't need to.
Thanks
it shouldn't make a difference but they might return it if its not stock.
Depending on what phones they are and how old they are you might get a better price if you sell them on here or ebay.
mazuma give really low prices.
they offered me £60 for a £110 brand new phone.
if they are old htcs and are in good condition there might be people on here that might be interested in them.
Hope this helps!
Or try Computer Exchange
I had a handful of old HTC phones (Hurricane, Hermes Virgin lobster tv) and Mazuma offered me just £35 for the lot
I had completely forgot about CEX as I hadn't seen them for years but I happened to stumble across one in Birmingham city center and they offered me £80 cash!! for the same phones and £105 for exchange!!
Dont bother with any of the ones on tv and if they are in good/mint condition and you still have the boxes, manuals, cables etc then you will get even more.

Hey Community,
I have moved on to a different phone and i wanted to give the people here an opportunity to possibly buy this phone from me for a reasonable price. Its an sim/cid unlocked cingular 8525 with the usual wear and tear that a phone gets.. its mostly had a screen protector on it so screen is in perfect shape, just a couple dings and whatnot on the rest of the phone.. i still have the box and all things that came with it including the software extra stylus etc. etc. i still have the receipt too if you would like that.. this phone is under a year old.. if anyone is interested please email me a reasonable offer.. i am not trying to get rich. I also do not smoke crack so please dont insult me with a 50 dollar offer.. I know what i paid for it and i also know what they are selling for on ebay.. i just want whats fair for both you and I . i am willing to trade however if someone has a blackberry(newer model, 8800, 8300, pearl [gsm only].
private message me only if you are serious about buying the phone
Thanks for your time
Abe
I have had my Fuze just under 4 months.
This past weekend I noticed the mini-USB port at the bottom of the phone was cracked. I'm talking about the plastic "tongue" with the 5 or 6 metal connectors on it (the part the charging cable connects to).
At first I was un-able to connect my charger to the phone, but after using a knife to move the tongue back to where it is supposed to be I was able to connect it.
However, it's only a matter of time before it breaks off and I will no longer be able to charge my phone. I did not purchase insurance.
I called AT&T and they told me that it is considered "physical damage" and therefore not covered under their warranty.
They referred me to HTC who gave me the same BS.
I see it as a manufacturer defect. I did not abuse the phone. HTC designed it. I can only charge it using the equipment they supplied with the phone. Apparently, 4 months of connecting and dis-connecting the charging cable is too much for the phone to handle! Of course, it is a cheap, $400 phone. What did I expect?
HTC told me I can send it to them and they will examine it. If they see fit to repair it, they will. If not, it will cost over $300 to fix it. Either way I will have to pay $35 just for them to look at it.
Has this happened to anyone else?
So my options as I see them are:
1. Return the phone to HTC and prey.
2. Purchase insurance from a third party and wait a few weeks to report the damage (and hope it lasts that long!).
3. Cancel my AT&T account (all of them, inc. my land line and DSL) and go to Verizon. I wanted an Omnia anyway. (This would be subject to getting an acceptable signal at home, something that I cannot do with AT&T).
It will cost me $180 to leave AT&T, but that is cheaper than paying over $300 to fix the phone!
I just bought a Fuze 2 weeks ago for $220 on craigslist. Screen has a MINOR scratch, thus the low price. My girlfriend bought her Fuze 3 days ago for $275 in absolute perfect condition. Both of our phones came with everything that came in the box and mine even had the original box. If you look on craigslist, you can find amazing deals. Me and my girlfriend were looking for about 3 weeks though, checking about twice a day for new posts.
This way, you spend less than the repair, and you have your original phone as backup/parts phone. You also don't have to wait as you pick the phone up yourself locally. Just never go alone, meet INSIDE a restaurant or store. I've never had bad experiences on craigslist, luckily. So far, I've bought 17" rims, 2 160GB HDDs, 4 80GB SATA HDDs, AMD Athlon x2 3800+ (for $20!!!), a complete watercooling kit for my PC, a palm treo 750w, a palm centro, an HTC Hermes, and now 2 HTC Fuzes. I make sure that the phones work perfect, check all the buttons, insert my sim card, make a phone call, etc.
I cooked my own quick little rom and the Fuze runs AMAZING compared to about 5 other roms I've tried on here, so don't give up on the phone, it has potential!
My suggestion would by to try a different approach with calling att support. Tell them the phone is not charging, will not sync, etc. Tell them you dont see any sign of physical damage and you have never dropped the phone or submerged it in water, etc. After about 5 minutes of scripted troubleshooting they should be making arrangements to send you a new phone. FYI they have a 1 year warranty on their phones. Obviously you don't want them to think you may have damaged it in any way. Best of luck!
Thanks sethstejskal, but no go.
They typed "notes" in my account saying I had already told them the port was cracked.
They also told me their "powerless" if I choose to cancel my service. The have no authority to replace my phone due to the "physical damage".
I am amazed that my 9+ years as a customer means less than a $400 phone.
Zoskalon, your suggestion would bring the cost of my Fuze to about $650 (inc. original purchase price). At that price they should throw in a blow job.
my friend had a treo on verizon that wouldn't charge. he just bought another battery and an external charger. i think that's your best bet, as long as you don't use the usb port for data transfer or internet sharing :\

I wonder if calling the ATT warranty number would yield different results than the standard customer service line. With a different department/building/computer system maybe they don't share notes interdepartmentally. I know its not terribly helpful but its better than getting the royal shaft if it works.
Sorry to resurrect this old thread but I had same problem with EXACTLY the same experience with AT&T and HTC. How did you resolve this issue?
I hope to resolve it in a couple of months. I'm just waiting for user reports on the DROID. Even though I'll still have one year remaining on my "contract" with AT&T and will have to pay around $120, I'm leaning toward switching to Verizon.
Believe it or not, my story actually got worse. I limped along with my broken Fuze, then took it to Europe where I lost it. I had purchased "insurance" for it, and was told it only was only covered in the US! (This was not through AT&T).
I asked AT&T for a deal on purchasing it again, and the best they could offer was, get this, a refurbished unit for $50 MORE than they had sold me the new one for!!!
I ended up buying a refurbished one on EBay for $200.
Presently I am so disgusted with the increase in dropped calls, plus the fact that I barely get a signal in my apartment ever since AT&T took over Cingular. I was considering buying their femtocel, as ridicules as that is to pay $150 for a device just so I can get a signal from the company with MORE BARS, but they're not even selling that in L.A. yet.
so if the reports on the Droid live up to the hype, I'll try out Verizon for 30 days. I'm hopeful that will "resolve" the issue.
well, if you have a broken port on your phone
1) you can't sync
2) you can't charge
3) you can't use those adapters
Solution
1) wifi/microSD card ... more complicated, but still usable
2) get a desktop cradle with battery charging... more complicated to charge, and need to physically change batteries, but still usable
3) bluetooth headphones?

4) Keep your mouth shut and stop complaining.
5) Give your money to any other company besides AT&T.
Of these I believe #5 is the only one AT&T will understand.
So my wife has told me she likes the look of the SE X10 Mini Pro. No problems there.
But I have 2 purchase options as I am currently on an unbeatable deal with T-Mobile.
Firstly I can but a phone sim free and keep me very good deal or I can negotiate a deal with T-Mobile as they will be carrying this handset shortly and save splashing £200 on the handset up front.
But my concern is that carriers have a habit of tinkering with phones and branding them before they ship them. I have seen horror stories of how Orange have actually removed basic features to their own ends and so on.
But what about T-Mobile? Do they tend to tinker with the handsets much or do they tend to leave them well alone (and yes I know I could go via Carphone warehouse and get an unlocked and unmolested one)?
Thanks
From what I have seen Tmo doesn't take anything out of the roms, but they do add useless crap that needs to be removed. Like Blockbuster app, Barnes and Noble app, My Account, etc...
So i wanna order the sensation, but from reading all those issues it has which can maybe happen to me, im worried. The reason is that the sensation is not being officially sold in my country so i will have to order it from the UK (handtec), and if i get the phone and it has one of those issues that people are exchanging the phone because of them (like dead pixel, dust, creaky back cover, responsive screen issue, overheating etc) then im kind of screwed cuz then i have to start dealing with shipping the phone back to htc and all that hassle.
What do you think? should i just order it and pray to the good lord that i wont be one of the unlucky people who has one of those issues which require a device exchange?
You're on a Sensation forum asking people if you should buy the phone....
All phones have major issues to some people.... No exceptions.
If you want superphone.....its the risk ya take.
It's one of the best devices on the planet right now.
Some people in here love to *****....don't listen to em. Majority of people love it as do I....
Just fyi

I was in the same boat and have had the sensation from its release in the UK, but here in Australia.. I shelled out some hard cash for the previllage and to be honest i never looked back.. it WHIPS the iphone 3GS even with jailbreaks a$$ by a long shot.. yes i do have the wifi issue (we all do and maybe with s-off there can be some tweaking), yes i have a hashing bars in some of my widgets at times (with s-off that can again be tweaked) but with this phone i have had the freedom i always wanted with my iphone (2 year contracts are way too long otherwise i would have upgraded many moons ago)... but as i said i would never go back.. i cant return or refund i just read carefully everything before i do it as to not brick it
The creaky back cover isn't an issue - it's to be expected. As the housing comes away from the internals there is always going to be a degree of give. Don't worry about it, it's a non-issue
I did my research too before purchasing mine, and yes reading all the probs scared me. But if returning it is gonna be a hassle I'd personnaly wait for the bootloader to hit then order it. On the other hand, I've had mine for 12 days now and I guess I got lucky, no probs to speak of for now(still got my fingers and toes crossed I don't jinx myself here).
I am personally blown away by this phone and all it can do. I was an advocate of Blackberry for a long time, now that i've tasted Android I can't get enough. I'm not a "heavy heavy user"(I don't think), but when I'm on my phone or using it's capabilities I want them to work. And I can say with confidence this phone is worth it(my personal opinion).
So far so good with my Sensation. I'm just waiting for the S-OFF to come out. It's been running like a dream for me.
Thanks for the replys.
Some of you didnt understand me.. im not asking IF the sensation is a good enough phone to buy. i know its an amazing phone and thats why i wanna buy. My point was that, most of you people buy it at a store next to your house and if the phone has some problem you can go and exchange it for a new device. I wont have that privilege since i live in the middle east and would have to order it from the uk so if i would be one of the unlucky people, it means i have to ship the phone to HTC to fix/replace it and that is going to cost me shipping fees, not to mention that if HTC will decide to give me a brand new unit, i will have to pay custom fees again.
The sensation is a good phone, although at the moment it's nowhere near as fast as a desire hd running one of the custom rom's with a supped up kernel, this is because it's still at stock, but when you unleash that dual core and high res screen, it's going to be a different story (can't wait for that)
All phones have their achillies heel, not just the sensation, all phones.
The Hd's battery, the iphone death grip (and apple overall) the atrix's crap OS, the LG 2x's power down and 5 minute lag etc etc etc ...... the list is endless, so it's up to you.
If your worried about the sensation then don't get it, get an evo 3d : ) I know i want one.
But then again, you'll probably be plagued with some other issue
Up to you pal.
PS: As regards, to the fees, just look at it like insurance, seeing as you'll be buying the phone, your probably not going to be insuring it? So just imagine how much you would have spent on insurance over that year (and possible excess) and that will rationalize your spending if you have to send it back to HTC.
OK then... i have made an order via handtec and i will pray for the good lord that my device wont have any of the major defects that cant be fixed
btw, which 16gb memory card would you recommend me to buy from ebay?
I am going to buy some devices from negrielectronics.com Had anyone already bought something there? Can I trust them?
I went to there website thos may not mean much but they look good to me given the fact that i brought a a junk tablet from china, because it was cheap & wasted my $$$ should have known better but just by looking at thewebsite alone its looks all high end no cheap ass junk. Items i would say go for it unlocked phones too show around!
