So this morning I was checking out the new choices in my Froyo leak - rooted Captivate, I clicked on every one of them to see what it is and then I clicked on one that said something like user accounts, well ever since then my phone has been a black screen only displaying the top clock and a no signal bar. What should I do next? Unfortunately Im stuck at work with no programs. So Im wondering what would you do, which Odin should I use? Ill be checkin in cause at least I can do this and plan fixing my phone for later
Im guessing you tried pulling the battery?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
sure did tried the reboot screen.
and the other thing, now the phone wont go into sleep mode so my battery is slowly dying too
try to boot into recovery and clear out the cache...
I did that too and it clears and then i reboot then it goes right back to black screen
The same thing happened to me, but I wasn't digging around in the settings. Like previously mentioned, I booted into recovery, and cleared cache/factory wipe, and it booted back fresh. Luckily, I had a Titanium Backup from a few hours before it happened, so I didn't really lose anything.
I had something like this too. Can you get into Download mode and use Odin to return to stock rom? It took me several tries before Odin worked.
Well I still haven't heard anyone who has completely bricked there samsung captivate yet so I think you'll be alright. Just to be the 1 click Odin when you get home.
I'm pretty new myself at this But I think the only way were really screwed Is if we kill the bootloader.

i will try when i get home, im stuck at work unfortunately, at least i know im not the only one, i was also fooling with settings
thank you
Theres been a few people that have fully bricked their captivates... Including me.
If you got your captivate within the last couple weeks be careful using odin with a froyo kernel. Check the Q&A thread for a post titled "phone-pc something" (Using my phone otherwise I'd provide a link)

lol its happened to many people, myself included.
It looks like I've done the impossible. I was running cm 7 gb on it and like a dummy went back to stock. Tried flashing continuum 3.1 and phone got stuck in a vibration loop.
Was able to get into d/l mode with jig and tried to odin stock again. Phone screen went all green and odin was stuck at rfs. Can still get into d/l mode with jig but now phone just shuts off while running odin.
I think my biggest issue is that I didn't follow the steps properly and repartition while going back to stock.
I just ordered an inspire 4g, hopefully I will be able to get the cappy up and running again so I can sell one of them later.
Anyone have any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Next time just use the one click package
Have you tried pulling the battery for a minute or so before putting the phone in download mode?
I've tried every method I could find. I tried with odin one click but don't think I have everything downloaded that I need to make it all work properly as far as the put files and everything.
I tried finding it to try it but have had no luck. When I tried odin I used a version that I've had since buying the phone. Its a very old version of stock that I think I got from ponack.net last yr some time.
thank you for the reply's. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

When I first replied about trying everything I hadn't read your full reply as i was using my wifes phone. After reading it on the pc I am going to give it a shot.
Will let you know how it goes, thank you for the help.
Tried method above with no success. No biggie, I'm going to send it to a guy to try to get it fixed so I have it as a backup in case I don't like the inspire.
The wife is ready to strangle me over this. Good thing she loves me.
Thank you all for your help. If I get it fixed and like the inspire enough I might end up selling it our keeping it for a play toy.
Thanks again.

Sounds like you're trying the wrong thing. The one-click odin stock doesn't require you to download any extra files, that's why it's a one-click solution. Everything is already packaged into the program, so all you have to do is connect your phone to the computer in download mode and hit the start button in odin, and the software takes care of everything else to get it back to factory defaults.

I am able to get it into d/l mode only using a jig but no matter what I try it doesn't seem to work.
I'm going to send it to Josh from mobile tech reviews, he thinks he might be able to fix it.
If not then hopefully I will have learned a lesson from this. That lesson being, don't mess up my inspire or I might end up single again. Not a big fan of that happening.
Thanks again to you all for your time and suggestions. People like you guys are the reason I like xda so much.

Weird, never heard of a situation where you could get into download mode but couldn't recover your phone. Keep us up to date about whether you could get it fixed, yeah?
I'm returning my current Captivate to ATT because it has way too many random shutdowns, it gets really annoying having to boot up the phone every 5 minutes. They sent me a replacement but currently I can't get ODIN to recognize the phone so I can flash it back to stock. I have Continuum running on it right now.
Could I just remove root and send the phone back? Or does anyone here have experience returning a phone with a custom ROM back to ATT? I don't want them to call me back and blame the custom ROM for the shutdowns and then in turn charge me for the replacement.
Thanks.
Yes you have to use one click and return to stock before returning phone. Custom roms and root void warranty.
Turn phone off. Plug in usb to pc. Hold volume up+down. Plug in usb to phone. Should go into dl mode and press start on one click odin.

I have a similar question, I have loaded GB continuum rom. If I return to stock with the one-click return to stock, will restore all GB boot loader?
Luckily I have an ATT return center not too far from me. I can walk in there and get a replacement. I am hoping to get one with better GPS performance (I know they exist).

Removing root wont change the fact that you have a custom rom. Make sure your in download mode on your phone, make sure odin is open first then plug in your phone. If it wont recognize your phone, try other usb ports or restart your comp. Make sure you use one click odin.

If you use the one click odin and master clear it will look like you never modded your phone.
I just did this at lunch today. Was having so many problems with my phone. 100% Sure I had faulty hardware and nothing software related. So this is what I did. I Odin-1 Clicked back to stock. Well one of my issues I was having was that even with Odin I would get a boot loop. It did get past the sbin and bootloaders, and replaced the flash screen with ATT and those annoying 3G Bars. Didnt even waste my time going to a retail store, went straight to a warranty store. In the store I explained the boot issue, and I was out with a replacement within 10 minutes. Granted if your Odin-1 Click works, you should be fine.
Sweet guys, thanks! I'll probably do this sometime next week.
Cool, thanks for the replies. I'll give it a shot on another computer because I can't seem to get ODIN to recognize the phone. I've tried 3 different USB cables. ODIN does recognize the phone when its on and running but I know you can't do anything with ODIN if the phone is on.
Try reinstalling pc drivers for phone see if that works.

But I seriously think I effed up my phone and I really need someone to help me fix it. I was trying to root it via this youtube vid:
How to Root Samsung Galaxy S 4G Gingerbread 2.3.6 Part 1
But now it's stuck in an infnite static boot loop and sometimes won't even turn on. Is there any possible way to fix this or at least get it back to it's original software
Please help!!!
can u get into download mode?
Yes I can. Is there a kill disc program or something I can download to completely reinstall my original android software? At this poinnt I just want it back to where it was
You will hv to download ur phone's firmware an use odin to restore it to factory defaults, just google search ur phone's firmware ul find it an use odin ul be good
hey i tried that and i have SU and CWM app. is that considered rooted?

1. Get odin
2. Google search your phones factory firmware
3. Google search how to Factory Reset from boot cause im to lazy to go that far. its all over this forum.
and for the dude above me. just cause you have superuser on you phone does not mean it is rooted. have you used applications like setCPU, if so does it allow root access. if not you do not have a rooted phone. superoneclick. use it. its geat
Yeah, Odin is your best bet to go. Make sure you get the correct firmware. Whatever you do do some research on the stock Galaxy S 4G Gingerbread firmware if you make a mistake loading the wrong files and letting odin to go to work you will dead brick the phone. There will be a still chance on recovering it but you will need a person that can do that and there are some here, they will charge you like $30 for it at least. Good luck
If you have those on your phone then you are rooted

Hello,
this morning i woke up to my alarm on my samsung galaxy s3. still not fully awake i unwarily opened my phone to see that there was a new update for my phone today. i foolishly clicked the accept for the update not thinking straight. now my phone is frozen after the logo with the message that there are unauthorized programs on my phone. i can't even manage to get into the hard reset menu either because the same message keeps popping up. did i really screw up this time, or is there a method where i can still salvage my phone
Thanks for reading. hope there is a solution to this
Can you get back into download mode. If so then you should be able to Odin the old jb software and it should be ok.

There have been several people saying they flash to stock and then. Take the ota have been able to follow the same root procedures to get on the new OTA
