Update available via Kies? - Captivate General

Check this out...

Notice the writing in blue....
"Upgrade to Android 2.2 (Froyo) is available
via Samsung Kies* "
This is on the Galaxy S page. It says availability limited on the bottom, but maybe we will get an update soon with all the other news out there...

Juicy stuff! It would not be the first premature publication on Samsung's website today though. Hopefully this means they're getting close!

You just killed a kitten..................

* Availability may vary depending on country and carrier

there's an asterisk next to it, and next to the asterisk at the bottom:

Is this the newest "omg" thread posting sensation?
Added: I went back to stock today, because of rom troubles, JH7 is as far as it goes!

Well, I also found this too... I didn't mean to get hopes up, I was just thinking it was another *possible* hint that the update may be rolling out soon...

Next tweet should be: "how do you guys define 'soon' "

they've since removed all the stuff that AndroidPolice.com reported.
I got a two-parter tweet from GalaxySSupport today:
GalaxySsupport:
@ScottyNuttz Hi Scott! I can't speculate why exactly your phone is not connecting to the server. It could possibly be that there's ^Sab
...Then:
@ScottyNuttz no update to be obtained right now. We’ll tweet the second we know more about 2.2 and we thank you for your patience. =) ^Sab

Rather than reaching out, I think she meant reach around.
Sent via bamboo telegraph.

They've been saying "soon" for the last 3 months. I've been checking their tweets daily. Although they have been ignoring just about every question about 2.2 since after Christmas. Usually they just said something along the lines of 'we dont' have info, 2.2 will come soon' to every inquiry. But I did see on Samsung's site 2.2 for all SGS phones except captivate too.

Given that 2.2 has already been released for some of the models, that website is entirely accurate and your post is entirely misleading.

LOL! Best put quote for "Coming Soon" ever.
Definitions of soon on the Web:
•in the near future; "the doctor will soon be here"; "the book will appear shortly"; "she will arrive presently"; "we should have news before the 12th of never"

I propose the term "Samsung Soon" be used when referring to empty promises, vaporware, and "never"

None of the US Galaxy phones have received Froyo, the Canadian update has been pulled, and Sprint's December 26 update never happened. The Samsung website that stated 2.2 for Galaxy variants now says 2.1 again. I don't see any Froyo update coming to us before the end of the year, and it's more likely to be sometime late January/early February IMHO.

ATT Fuze (Raphael) - November 3rd - $300

I didn't see this posted but a friend/source of mine says that AT&T will be releasing the Fuze in the states November 3rd for $300 after $100 rebate.
Flame on if I missed this as obvious news
Date for ATT Fuze
Hello, Release is listed as October 23 for the Fuze release. ATT is releasing the Omnia around that date as well, I do believe the O is on the 21st.
Jon/Beachboyde
Still a close date. This is based on sales sheet information from today.

Read the entire thread. There is a stock sheet saying 23rd. Regardless, it's getting close. As far as the thread in this section, you're only a month or so late =p

ive been keeping up with that fuze thread since it started and the fuze thread before that. i saw the sheet with the 23rd on it thank you
are you the same person who put on engadget the 3rd with no evidence?
Really guys, really? Are you going to get on this kid for posting useful info when all you have are unreliable dates from a sheet (check the releases of the other phones, they don't all match up)? I'd definitely believe his November 3rd date.

Thanks for the support.
Sadly, no, I did not post on engadget and have only posted here. I don't have proof other than the text from my manager buddy who said he got a price/release date sheet and the Fuze was on it for Nov. 3rd.
I'm not a newb and didn't go around flailing about with this date. Just posting some info I got is all.
wow, people are gettin' grumpy lol fella releases some honest info, and get shat upon lol.
Hurry up ATT, the junkies in this forum are startin' to itch...
p.s. @OP, TY for the info! <3
Instead at looking at sheets or taking people's word for it I'd rather believe my local ATT cooperate store which tells me they will have the phone avaiable one week after their training on the 16th of this month. Putting the release date at the 23rd.
Earlier the better but I trust corporate stores as much as the government.
well if it doesn't come out until Nov.3 then that puts it close to the release time of the Touch HD. I still haven't made up my mind on whether to get the fuze just for 3G or get the Touch HD and use it on Edge like my Touch pro now and enjoy a much larger screen and better camera.
Nov 3rd seem like it could be true i dont see why people or bashing on him for giving us some info...i remember the diamond had a release date that everyone thought was true but it didnt release until a couple weeks later for sprint...all we should care about is that its actually will come out for ATT...oct 23 and nov 3 thats less than 2 weeks apart from one another...thanks for the info by the way
I'm only saying that giving info without proof is why everyone is upset. By the way the guy waiting for the Pro or the HD thats an easy one Touch Pro since the US will NEVER get a Touch HD in the US, it's already been officially said that there will be no touch HD coming to the US. Also I'm not sure if some have had bad expierences with cooperate stores in the past but my store last year gave me a date for the TyTn II release last year and they had it in stock a day early so yea I'm inclined to believe them, the NYC cooperate store near my house is usually very reliable and don't guess release dates like some other places.

I'm not trying to start a fight and am glad that the 23rd may be a possibility too.
I wouldn't be myself if I didn't say this though...where is YOUR proof You can't get on my case with 'well my store told me this'.
I mean this in the lightest of moods, so don't get angry...besides, after reading, it looks like this device suffers from the same "it's a business device, not a media device BS" that I got with my Tilt...and I won't go on that train again.
Well, if it comes on the 23rd then at&t will beat sprint out of the gate as the sprint version has been pushed to Nov 2nd. Plus, I have not seen any official previews of the fuze anywhere on the net. Or did I miss something..? The sprint version has youtubes all over the web with official previews.

Yes, and at the time that sheet was released Sprint's Touch Pro was set to release on the 16th. Sprint's got pushed back to November 2nd, and I believe the exclusivity still plays a role in the fact that they're the first carrier to get it, so AT&T may have had to push their date back to the 3rd. It makes perfect sense, and the training dates wouldn't be delayed if they already had them set up.

Cupcake comes out.. when?

http://forums.t-mobile.com/tmbl/board/message?board.id=Android_MR&thread.id=1
reports "end of next week".
but which "week" are they referring to?
the post was made "04-25-2009 10:59 AM".
April 25, 2009 was a Saturday. "next week" would be May 2nd, 2009 (the saturday of the week following April 25, 2009).
So the end of the week, if it starts on saturday May 2nd, 2009, would be May 9th, 2009 (saturday).
It has been 72 hours since then, and no cupcake.
Upon further inspection the post says "Message Edited by Dominic on 05-07-2009 01:58 PM". this was simply to add the "official video" part.
proof is available here: http://droiddeveloper.com/official-t-mo-cupcakes/
which was posted the day before, and reports "end of next week".
So when was cupcake supposed to be out? 72 hours ago.
If you feel mad, call T-Mobile and let them know. (i recommend repeating "all your cupcakes are belong to us")
You are such a mean and childish person.
/me goes to call them and say it
lmao. i wonder how many people actually are gonna call and say that line.
Just talked to my Tmo Business salesman and he was on his way back from Orlando. He just saw the Tmo G2... as far as i know it was the sapphire... and it seems that Tmo will be giving us plain Cupcake and if you want G2(htc build) you will have to buy the G2
.
*************that is unless you happen to know who haykuro is and then you can have all that and a keyboard and no new money spent on the magic**********
Thank you again for the hard work man. I still will not leave the h502 and I have a good feeling that when the G2 comes out more and more people on the G1 will flock the the non google version of the build.
Check the FAQ:
Q: When will these random batches of updates begin to be sent out to customers?
A: We plan to begin sending out the update starting the week of May 11th. As with previous software maintenance releases, the update will be randomly sent "over the air" to T-Mobile G1 customers. We expect everyone will have their update by the end of May.

Q: Can I manually install the update?
A: T-Mobile will only send the update out randomly over automatic "OTA" (Over The Air). T-Mobile does not support customers manually downloading and installing the update. However, veterans of the T-Mobile Forums know that the community has historically created their own manual updates.

Cellular South Questions

Hey everyone,
I am one of the device specialists for Cellular South. I don't do any kind of development work, but I will be happy to contribute in any way I can. If anybody has any Cellular South specific questions I'll be glad offer any answers I can. Also, any inside info I get on release dates or anything that may be of interest I'll share that as well.
We are in desperate need of a factory odin flash for the showcase.

Welcome to XDA, and ditto to what he said above...
You can see my thread where I'm trying to make one (or as close as one as possible) but it would really BE GREAT to have one like every other Carrier has
I will send an email up to see what I can get. Nobody will be in until Monday so I'll keep you posted. I am not here to represent cellular south in anyway and I doubt they would recommend any modifications at all to the showcase. I am just letting you guys know my position and may have access to things that could help advancement and would like to contribute if possible.

If you can find out that a factory flash exist or someone that will admit that cell south actually has it, it will be a GREAT starting point

2nd. do you have the ability to activate unlocked CDMA phones , not purchased @ cell south. (thunderbolt looks tasty!!)

They have not released a date for the 2.2 nor have they shared any other information with employees. From what I understand most of the wait comes from Samsung's end. Unfortunately since we are so small compared to others we tend to be the last carrier the suppliers worry about. We had the same issues with the HTC Hero. Also, with the Hero they went through several versions of 2.1 before they got to one that worked even semi stable and it was released and then a better 2.1 was released a couple months later so if they have a version that they are even testing yet then it honestly probably sucks. 2nd, I do not have the ability to activate unlocked CDMA phones. Cellular South's system uses a method to activate phones that also searches their full inventory. So... If the ESN or MEID hasn't been in Cellular South's inventory at some point in time, the system will reject it and you can't program it. Does it suck? Yes. However, they are supposed to be putting in a new POS system in the next few months. I doubt the conditions change but if for any reason they do I'll let everyone know.

It will get updated to gingerbread at some point, but nobody knows when.
Most of us guessed towards the end of September(about a month after the EP1W GB leak was released publicly)
Here's a fact: Nobody knows exactly when it is coming out. Even the support people at Verizon don't know. They are notified that something is on the way, but they don't tell them until it actually hits the streets.
My opinion, based on info i've gained reading various sources: It should be soon, probably in the next couple weeks. And it won't be EP1W.
I had a brief twitter conversation with p3 a couple days back, asking him if he had heard anything since the leak was released. He didn't offer any info on ETA, but DID say that he knows EP1W is no longer official...in his words, they "blew past" EP1W
This could be good, as personally I consider EP1W rather unstable (in my personal experience) and would love it if the final, official GB release is being developed further to deal with those kinds of issues. But... this could also add significant time to the release cycle as well.
Sent from my GummyCharged Charge
if the release for Gingerbread on the Droid 2/Droid X are any "guidelines", i'd say another 2 months with verizon's release schedule.
On two different occasions with two different people at the Verizon store i was told with authority to expect an update this month (sept). We will see. I tried checking for software updates on the verizon site but it wouldn't let me enter my model, which was strange. I know only the owner's manual was on there but maybe they're getting ready to add something.
I meant the Samsung page- sorry!
When is gingerbread coming to the charge? Not happy with buggy froyo.

Well, I for one can say that the Humble ROMs from danalo have been faster and more battery efficient than the stock ROMs from Samsung. So, I would be willing to bet that the Humble ROMs available now are going to be better than whatever Samsung has for the next "official" release.
That is, until Cyanogen starts his development job at Samsung, and gets some really awesome CM-like stuff incorporated into the stock Sammy ROMs.
Should be by the end of the month like the thunderbolt update.can't wait!

The guys at the Costco booth don't work for Verizon for once. The one's at my Costco are incompetent and seem to give two ****s about their job or helping the customer. I would HIGHLY recommend taking anything they tell you with a grain of salt. I find it very hard to believe they would have any true insider information on this.
Anything the guys at the booth are telling you is hogwash. They are just repeating something a co-worker or customer told them. Verizon does not provide those details to salespeople. Even the tech support people only have vague info like "coming soon", or maaaaaaybe a "this month". You can't miss target dates that you never announce in the first place.
VZ's own techs don't know when the update is coming.
I am friends with a tech at one of the local VZ stores & he has no more idea when it's coming than we do.

Exactly right. Verizon does not tell them. Truth be told, most of these guys find out about the software updates when a customer brings in their phone because of a problem the update caused.
Well. I have been using humblecomb and i so far love the rom.

Rogers Galaxy S II LTE ICS Delayed because of problems

Got in contact with a tech agent from rogers asking for the ICS update and when it would be released and this is the answer it got:
We strive to provide you with the highest level of
customer support, and hope I can be of assistance in addressing your
questions.
Unfortunately, due to some technical reasons, Rogers customers are still
unable to update their devices with new android OS. This issue is being
investigated by one of our speciality group. We are looking forward to
get a positive resolution shortly.

Email received on Monday
Doesn't exactly say its delayed. sounds a bit more of a generic response.
well it is delayed considered it was supposed to be released today (sometime last week)
weaksauce
Maybe someone is just on vacation, who pushes the RED button to release it
"Due to an error in not being able to insert all our bloatware we have delayed releasing it."
Yeah, "technical reasons"... rogers can't find a way past ICS's inate anti virus & anti spam software

sorry but
first off you have to wait for the att/global version to get it.
then two or three months and bloatbloatbloat later you will have your warranty friendly ics.
or you can go to the dev page and as soon as some sauce is out (there are leaks but the still have issues) get it then. your choice.. i just keep an odin tar of i727r around if i need to return it. as long as I don't flash anything dumb like note radios.. again. HA.
Curious as to why you posted this yesterday, if you got this email Monday? Why would you withhold that information from us for such a long period of time?

LOL... I hear you Uhhdoug... I actually used my tar last night after I bricked my phone testing a buggy rom... (not the one in my signature)
That tar is now a good friend.
Sooner or later we have to get an official release... then our Dev's will have the tools to create more stable releases.

Am I the only one who read the part where Samsung said that ICS was going to be released for select devices starting today with the rest of the devices mentioned over the rest of the quarter?
That means that they have until the end of July to release it.

Wow I thought the French where nicer then that. It was a joke, no need to get your panties in a bunch over it. Guess what? I have a wife, three kids, a house and a minivan. Who the eff cares.
I'm amazed at the amount of thought you put into that post. Definately made my day!

I do stand up. Thanks for noticing and glad I made you laugh. Try to keep your eyes on the road though, I know how good the drivers are in Montreal.
