Would you still want to keep your Nexus S after CES? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There will be new phones announced at CES coming this January. Will you be loyal to your Nexus S after seeing all the second generation phones? In example the dual-core processors, the new 4g headsets, honeycomb tablets, and etc.
I still would want to get one, yet the thing I don't know after I would still want to.
Thanks.

Yes, I will have this phone until the next Nexus device.

Largely just bad timing, mate. We had a string of trolls roll through here lately making threads along the lines of yours. Plus this topic in general has been discussed to death in a number of really, really great threads.

truth is, nexus s came very late. to an end of an era. nexus S, desire HD, desire Z. all of those are very best. but the very best of old technology.
new phones coming up. some early Jan, some in mid of next year and some at the end of next year. this is very typical.
the smart thing is to know what do YOU really need ?
people who bought the nexus S didnt buy it for its super power. Nexus S isnt the most powerful phone . hell desire HD has more ram in it. they only bought this phone because they are sick of lag fixing, waiting for months and months to get a decent firmware update. Samsung / Sony ericsson / HTC are **** when it comes to updating their firmware " specially Sony, f**k you Sony with your 1.6 firmware on a 2010 phone and waiting till the end of 2010 to finally get 2.1
The people here don't want this. they bought an android for their software not hardware. as far as i can tell. i dont know one game or application that doesnt run super smooth on desire HD/ Nexus S. till the new games/Apps starts to lag and perform bad on these devices, then its the day people should start looking for new phone.
if you are already a nexus S owner, then its stupid to waste your money on a new device that you wont get advantage from it software side. UNLESS there is a hardware feature you wanted on the phone. like for the example the new LG phone has HDMI out and 1080p Video recording. if YOU need that, then yeah the phone is good. BUT if you buy the phone thinking software wise the phone is better, then you are wrong and wasting money.

I donot see another Stock android experience coming any time soon..and personally having a dual core phone means nothing if you are running outdated software

Actually, it is the most powerful phone atm. 768MB RAM isn't power. 90 million triangles on stock Gingerbread is power. Not that the Desire HD isn't super fast either. Just the Hummingbird is currently unmatched except for the Tegra2 which hasn't truly debuted yet and isn't necesarily "better".

Tmobile has to be getting something great for me to even begin to decide

until we all stop replying to this kine of threads and non-sense posts, this is going to continue on and on... Just ignore and ignore as I been doing, until we get some good moderator on this Nexus S area.

I just want T-Mobile to get better coverage
Sent from my Nexus S

If Verizon announces a Galaxy S type device (ie., SAMOLED screen that's 4" or 4.3", with a top end CPU and GPU, and the large 1GB ROM space for apps) with Gingerbread, and due out by March, I am all over it and the Nexus S will go back to Best Buy. If it's not LTE, I'd still consider it, but only because I just am not 100% happy with T-Mobile and AT&T service, and really would like a Verizon network device.
To those griping about "not another thread like this"...do everyone a favor and give the thread a 1-star rating and DON'T RESPOND. The bad threads will sink to the last pages of the forum and you won't have to see them. Keep responding with pointless "stop this kind of posts" posts and they'll just keep bubbling up to the top.
Along those lines, it would sure be nice if XDA had an IGNORE THIS THREAD feature to permanently keep bad threads out of your sight. I've asked/suggested for that feature in the general forum area, but no interest or responses.

I'd keep NS especially I have several top phones (N900, nexus one, MT4, NS) already.

[Q] Any other phones coming out soonish that may be better than Nexus S

So I'm getting the itch to get a new phone. I've currently got a Cliq that I've rooted and customized as I like it so I don't NEED a new phone. I just want one.
I'm with T-Mobile and my wife just recently got the Vibrant. In messing around with it, I think that without the Touch wiz, I'd be really happy with it. Which leads me to the Nexus S. The only reservation I have about the Nexus is the lack of SD card since I carry a ton of music with me for flights. It's not a deal breaker by any means, but it does make me pause.
Does anyone know of any new phones that may be coming out within the next 3-4 months that may be better than the Nexus S?
Thanks
There is always something better around the corner...
But the main advantage to getting a stock Google Phone is that you will get OS updates much faster then everyone else with android skinned devices.
If you like android this is an excellent buy.
Yeah, I know that is a huge advantage to the Nexus line, but I also know that if there is a great phone out there, people will root it and develop for it.
Like I said, I don't "need" a new phone, and the only thing making me think twice is the lack of SD card for music and movie space. (I travel a lot so the less electronics I have to pack the better.) I'm just curious if it would be better for me to wait to buy one in a few months or take the plunge Thursday.
The thing about the Nexus S is that it's future proof, by that I mean so many phones out there will only get 2 updates and thats it. With the Nexus S you could keep it as long as you want because you know your going to continually get updates directly from Google.
Too many people pay attention to wether or not there is better hardware on the horizon when they really should pay attention to whether their software will continue to be updated and keep the device alive and youthful.

Who truly needs a dual core cellphone though, honestly most people dont even need a dual core PC
To answer your actual question, the only two that have *strong* rumors that I've heard of, are the Evo Shift and the Playstation phone. As for the Shift, the current rumors don't put its specs as all that impressive (no front camera and snapdragon CPU). Supposedly we'll hear about the Playstation phone in February. I've read that its display is supposed to rival the iPhone 4's, whatever that is. In addition, there is a not so strong rumor that Samsung's next flagship will be in Q1. Which should definitely be better than the Nexus S in specs. Motorola is supposed to unveil some new hotness at CES. Probably actually launched late Q1 or after.
My guess is if you want a phone that clearly blows away the Nexus S, you'll be waiting until Q2 or Q3 of next year.
basically it comes down to this.
If your a t-mobile customer and are not going to leave anytime soon, then the Nexus S is the best phone for you.
If you don't mind leaving t-mobile, then wait because in 4-6 months verizon and sprint will probably both get dual core phones but it'll probably be 12 months for T-Mobile to get off their ass and get one. outside of the galaxy s 2, but thats touchwiz.
Also if you just want a stock android phone, then go for it as well because there won't be another one for a while.
Q2 or Q3 may be too long for me. I've read of the Playstation phone and it seems like it may be pretty cool, but I just don't know if I want to wait that long. Is it going to be unlocked to all carriers? I am in a 2 year contract with T-Mobile due to getting my wife a new phone, leaving is pretty much not an option.
More than likely my desire for a new phone will overtake my ability to wait and I'll be at a Best Buy Thursay morning before work.
Any chance they will add an SD card to the Nexus S in the near future???

no idea how the playstation phone carrier wise is going to work, hopefully it will be all carriers, but who knows.
Unfortountly it's safe to say that they will not be adding in an SD slot to the Nexus S. Between tons of apps to stream music and video, and the 13GB of storage that acts like an SD, it should be enough.
You could always buy the Nexus S then return it before the 30 days if they announce promising phones during CES. I'll be working the registration desk at CES so hopefully I have time to look around to play around with all the new phones and gagdets.

Within the next 3-4 months? Hmm.
And also, better? They may be competitors, depending on how you look at it.
There's the LG Star, Motorola Olympus, PlayStation Phone, Evo Shift, and possible Galaxy S 2. Not all of these are confirmed for next '3-4 months' and even then, they might not even be "better".
Sure, the LG Star packs a Tegra 2. Which, in all honesty, has a GPU which barely tops the Hummingbird. Tegra 2 is nothing to be too excited about. If you want a dual core, you want the dual core Snapdragon or the Orion. The Orion will most likely be the only one paired with a gorgeous Super Amoled which is unmatched but this is also preference. Even then, these may not be out for over 4 months.
Also you need to consider software. Generally, nothing runs faster than AOSP. Nor is as open nor fast to get updated. The Nexus One STILL holds its ground merely because it has Froyo when Galaxy S phones still don't. It may not be as powerful as fast, and it may be sluggish, but it's still "ahead" in a sense. This will probably be the case with the Nexus S and Honeycomb, with the exception that this thing has a friggin Hummingbird, which is theoretically capable of running Quake 3 Arena at 90fps with the 56 fps limit unlocked.
Don't get me wrong though, the Tegra 2 isn't BAD. But it isn't worth jumping the gun over a Hummingbird when the Snapdragon and Orion are around the corner to the Tegra 2. Tegra 2 and Hummingbird is like an 'either, or'. Don't let the Tegra 2 be your deciding factor. It's all about the carrier, the way the phone feels to you, and just personal preference in general. If you think the LG Star is hot, then that's what you should get. If you think the Nexus S is hot, then that's what you should get. They will probably perform about equal.

The thing about the PlayStation Phone is that well, it's clunky and huge, and potentially ugly.
I'll tell everyone a secret android is all about software so even if someone puts out a quadcore phone that still won't let it get the newest updates any faster. After 2 years of owning stock android phones I have read thousands of posts of people complaining about why their super phone has yet to get the latest update. Even nexus users had a thread that was 5000 posts of them yelling at Google because 2.2 was a month late.

The only problem is that Android isn't built and optimized (yet) for more than one core. The dual core isn't going to be making a huge impact probably for another six months or more. If you are looking for a phone now, it sounds like the Nexus S is it.
I think this thread convinced me finally to get the NS
Are you guys sure you want a dual core phone? Because, you know, there are already rumors of a quad core phone coming out in 2012 or whatever. Might as well wait for it.
I'm on TMobile... I won't be waiting around. I'm grateful this phone is releasing because after that you got the MT4G's childish face looking you in the eye. And who knows how soon TMO will drop us another gem that competes w/ the NS.

42fps nenamark + 67 fps neocore @ lg star... 1-8fps more for tegra in comparsion to hummingbird is way less then i thought and not worth an upgrade (yet) .... the difference between snapdragon and hunmingbird is much bigger regarding the gpu
Edit: getting 47.1fps on my sgs in nenamark... 59fps at neocore(seems to be limited to 59...) sooo where's the point in tegra2 anyway?

Hey mklgee, you mentioned buying the Nexus S and then returning within 30 days. Is this an option Best Buy does with smartphones? If so, that is an interesting idea if something does pop up soon after the Nexus release.
After reading these discussions, I think I will just go ahead and get the Nexus S on Thursday. I do wish it had an SD card though. I currently have a 16gb SD card in my Cliq that is filled with music, pics, and app info. I just hope a phone doesn't come out say in April that is so much better to make me remourseful.
Thanks for the discussion points guys.

Question about Buying Nexus S

Hi, here's my story:
I'm from Mexico, and I've been waiting a long time to afford for my next Smartphone (I'm an actual iPhone 3GS user). I have decided that my next buy will be an Android-phone, I love how it looks and feels vanilla android (that's why i want the Nexus S).
So, my question is: is the Nexus S worth it now (I'm paying $580+ USD for it)? Or should i stick with my iPhone 3GS (which is not a bad phone at all) for now and wait for a dual-core android phone (most of them will be announce/release in the next couple of months)?
Thanks in advance, hope your comments help me decide.
If you are not going to root and tinker with the phone then I wouldn't bother waiting for dual core phones (if you want vanilla Android and timely updates to the latest software). They will all be released (at least the ones coming out in the next 6 months) with Froyo 2.2 and will come with some sort of service provider bloat.
If you are going to root and will install custom ROMs then you could wait for dual core, but make sure the phone you get will not have a hard locked boot loader like some of the motorola phones.
Also, dual core phones most likely won't be be optimized for Android until Honeycomb comes out, although motorola did claim they are trying to tweak 2.2 a little for dual cores.
I have no intention of getting rid of my NS for a dual core in the near future. I absolutely love the NS and will probably not upgrade until the end of next year when the next Nexus comes out that should have a dual core processor, hopefully the Orion or next gen dual core Qualcom processors.
There are many threads about this sort of topic around already.
EDIT: The screen is amazing on the NS, it would be hard for me to consider a phone with a non-SAMLOED screen until something comparable comes out. Some of the newer phones coming out seem to have improved screens, like the Motorola Bionic etc, but only time will tell if they live up to the SAMOLED or SAMOLED Plus.
either way, you can still buy the SNS
then sell it when the Dual Core comes out
Yeah, I've seen the display on the Galaxy S and is mind blowing. That's another reason for me to get the Nexus S, is just that I'm afraid of buying it and become "obsolete" in a couple of months.
I'm thinking to wait for the next Galaxy S, but also I don't want to be abandoned by Samsung without next OS updates.
That's a big dilemma for me...

EVERY phone you buy will be obsolete in a couple of months, except for iPhones, if by obsolete you mean there will be a faster/better phone on the market in a couple of months.
The Nexus S has the best hardware (screen, cpu, gpu, nand memory) on the market that's available right now. It also has the latest and most advanced version of the Android OS...in fact no other phone has Android 2.3.x (aka Gingerbread) officially yet.
The Nexus S will get its software updates directly from Google, not from Samsung, and it will most likely be the first to get it before any device, just the same way the Nexus One was the first to get Froyo months before any other device. This is now Google's annointed phone for the time being. It's their baby, not Samsung's. (oops, I think I mis-read you, you're afraid a new Samsung version of the phone will be at Samsung's mercy...it most likely will be).
exactly, SNS is pretty much the only phone that will be safe, and has a guaranteed OS upgrades
all other manufacturer models are kind of left to fend for themself, if they are lucky, they will get the OS ported over, if not they will be stuck forever on 2.1 (motorola, acer, dell, uwei phones) or 2.2 (some samsung) depending on the manufacturer

This is just a confusion going on. It is just the european version of the nexus s.
Thats correct. The european nexus s is coming.....(always late)
Other than possibly some games which may take advantage of the added horsepower, I really don't see the current phone OSs needing dual-core, or being able to utilize it. And even for games, look at how much iOS can squeeze out of single-core chips. How much detail and rendering power do you really need for a 4" screen?
It's really mostly marketing for now, and for the next year, possibly two.
Plus, I guarantee you, within a month of the dual-core comes to market, there will be rumors about the quad-cores which will surely blow them away in just a few short months
Don't get an early adopter dual core. Unless you don't care about vanilla android or updates.
The Nexus S will not be obsolete until the next Nexus comes out, which will probably be at the end of 2011 or beginning of 2012. Even then, it probably still won't be obsolete. The Hummingbird is very powerful. The Nexus S is very smooth.
Thanks to everyone for your opinion, specially to posts #13 and #14.
I have decided to go and get it now, well, I just need to get rid of this iPhone I have now. =P
Any reason to not get a Nexus S right now?
I'm looking for a stock android experience. I will be buying the phone on contract. I really don't care about the tegra 2 devices.
I'm not a big fan of Samsung. But it seems that wont be an issue since all the updates come from Google.

I'm happy with the Nexus S and would buy it again if I had a chance to do it all over again. The only issue that I personally feel is valid is the lack of an SD card slot. I personally don't mind since I never really used it, others however keep quite an arsenal of files. So how you use the phone should dictate if that matters to you or not.
I've had to return my phone once but it was rather simple to just return it to Best Buy and exchange it out. The N1 has its flaws and so does the NS as far as meeting expectations. If you want a phone that is pure Google, and you are tickled by the fact of having AOSP support for your device, and enjoy reasonable and timely updates from Google then I'd have to say this is the phone you want.
The N1 is a great phone to this day, but its got some pretty annoying flaws such as multi-touch and the buttons on the N1 drove me crazy (unresponsive at times). The NS screen in my opinion is quite better than the N1 as well.
IMO you'll enjoy the phone.
Get the nexus s. Great f***ing phone

[Q] Best Android Smart Phone for games

Hi all, I just wanted to post a quick question. I'm looking to upgrade from my sad Kyocera Zio M6000 to a top of the line, best in the market, Android smart phone. I thought I was going to get the HTC Thunderbolt until I spoke with my sister who works for Verizon and she said to hold off because it's having issues right now with switching from 3G to 4G. So I wanted to check here and see what you all think right now is the best, top of the line android smart phone out there. The most powerful, can handle -ANY- games out on the market, can record HD video, has 2 way camera, all the bells and whistles and is going to last me liekly years before I even think about getting a new one. I made a mistake getting my Zio and I've been regretting it for 10 months now and I don't want to make that mistake again. I plan to play game son it, watch movies,.. everything on it .. I appreciate all your responses and thank you for your time! REason I posted here is because I want the new phoen to be able to run any app and play any game flawlessly
-Seabhac
WAIT, I must say, when it comes to a phone and games Samsung has the best hardware but horrible software support (updates). As of now, hTc is behind the game. So far they haven't released any phones that even get close to competing with the Galaxy S II. Wait for a better Galaxy S to get on Verizon and GO. The Fascinate just doesn't get the job done either.
Droid Charge? It has literally everything you have mentioned. I personally would choose the Nexus S or HTC Sensation when it comes out. Droid Bionic will also have everything you are asking for and the Atrix 4G also seems pretty future proof.
Atrix is fine but motorola doesn't seem to provide OS-Updates in a serious manner.
I'd head for Nexus S. Strong hardware and probably quiet fast updates to ice cream and beyond.
Nevertheless I love my defy and wouldn't change for a nexus S but I'm not a gamer
Appreciate the answers but let me qualify this a step further,.. I want to replace it in the near future like this week or the next so of the ones out -now- which is the most powerful? I'm starting to think I might have to go iphone 4 but I really would prefer not to go that proprietary! lol

What are everyone's opinions of the HTC Thunderbolt? I keep considering that one as well due to the fact it seems to be the top of the line right now from Verizon.
Try LG Optimus 2X.... Dual-core with Nvidia Tegra!! Should be the most powerful one available in the market for now... gsmarena.com for more info...
Well truthfully it depends on which carrier your going to go with. As of right now T-Mobile has the G2X which is an Nvidia Tegra Dual Core Device and I believe it has Full Root now at least it looked close to it when I checked in on that forum on here a week or so back. Also most Android phones can be overclocked so look through the forums at the newer devices and see what they are doing there and how active it is and that will give you a better idea of what to go for considering the devices that are good and will get updates faster than stock tend to be the one's with the best reputation and like I said updated before stock. I personally have the T-Mobile G2 and the MyTouch 4g both Rooted and Both with Custom Roms and also Both Overclocked and running Gingerbread which is not released for Either phone Officially and I have yet to have issues running any games and don't get much screen delay at all on either of them. The G2X fyi is the American version of the LG Optimus 2X.
Xperia PLay Would be great..you will hav a big screen with PlayStation And Android Support in one device...
Nexus Prime!
just wait for the nexus prime!!!
just a week!!
Optimus 2x
Yes i love my Optimus 2x with Thanatos 4.1 custom overclocked 1400mhz dual-core rom so much that i bielieve it is the best for gaming.....
I have never try anything else xD

[Q] Should I wait for quad-core?

Basically, I want upgrade my HTC Desire soon, and I'm looking to get something powerful and pretty. I'm leaning heavily towards the RAZR, however I saw the leak that HTC are releasing a quad-core phone early next year, and I'm assuming there will be a couple released prior to that.
In short: will my RAZR be worth getting seeing as quad-core is just around the corner? Or is there anything else due out that'd trump the RAZR (HTC Sensation XE or Nexus Prime)?
I would upgrade now. Even though quad core is coming soon, there won't be enough software out there to fully utilize the potential for awhile.
Yea, I wouldn't go for the quad core phones for now.. That's gonna be the 1st quad phone ever, so it might have leaks etc and better wait til the market is full of quad phones.
That way, prices will go down (don't expect to get quadphones under 500 lol) as well as the number of bugs and error apps will have with 4 cores.
mmk, cheers guys.
and just for piece of mind: opinions on the RAZR? :>
It looks like a quality phone if you are a fan of Motorola.
agreed. the razor is going to look sleak and sexy in my opinion. excited for the release
I think the nexus or the rezound would be the phone I went with, Im not a fan of a locked bootloader

Thats specifically why I said if you are a fan of Motorola. According to androidcentral, the Rezound isn't sounding as great as it should have been.
Phones are like computer hardware. Just buy the best you can when you are ready because there will always be something better in the works. I have fallen to the waiting game and its easy to keep waiting. Just buy now
i am getting aqudrant score of 2300 on my i9000 without rooting
At one point or another you're gonna have to take a leap of faith and buy something...there will always be a rumor of something bigger/better bc tech is always gonna progress. Do ur research and pick something u know u would be happy with for a while.
Plus, what happend if that quad core get's pushed back...then u waited for nothing
If I've helped you, please hit the THANKS BUTTON

Anyone else buy the G2X because it was so close to Vanilla Android?

One of the reasons I went with this phone roughly 22 months ago was that it was expected to get updates to Android very quickly, since it didn't have Sense or some other heavy overlay.
Funny, huh? Since it ended up one of the WORST phones I could have picked for any real updates. Ahh, the irony.
Anyone else do the same thing? I honestly can't wait to chuck this thing, and now that it's down to $50 per line to get out of my contract 2 months early, I'm very tempted to do so and pick up a Droid DNA on Verizon or some other powerhouse.
It's not worth getting any android phone that isn't Nexus or has a huge HUGE base (galaxy s3). I wouldn't trust the DROID DNA, honestly. Verizon can really suck with updates, too.
Don't make the same mistake again.

You should wait for May at least to see what Google rolls out, whether it is the moto X phone or something else. Also Id be surprised why you would do verizon and agree to pay prob at least $30 more per month when you can stick with Tmo or go simple talk with an unlocked GSM phone.
I got his phone for two reasons.
1. Because it was vanilla.
2. As soon as I heard nvidia was making tegra I checked everyday for news on the it's release.
Yes I waited a long ass time and nvidia didnt put out a tegra till they came out with tegra 2.
But I'm still happy with this phone.
Go to any phone thread, they all say the same thing.
"worst phone ever"
"worst company ever"
People are never happy.
This phone competes with phones coming out today with a proper stable ROM and I think that is great.
No it doesn't compete with phones coming out today. Don't try to ignore the truth.

Overclocked to 1.55 ghz with the supercharger on aggressive, it performs well. I can do anything any new phone can do! (except take good pictures, camera became ****)
I also remember watching a promo video by LG on Tmo website claiming "pure vanilla Android experience." That along with the G2x name - hinting at G1 roots- and other factors (dual core, Tegra, etc.) falsely presumed timely updates or at least easy ROM updating. I came from the pure vanilla original Droid. I wanted the same experience. Boy did I make the same huge ironic mistake. Trouble is, this is the phone I switched my wife off her iPhone for. Disappointing at best.
True, there are some great devs who have made this phone passable. Unfortunately, TEGRA/nvidia had their hands cuffed and LG won't supply them with a key. Tmo is an enabler in the whole debacle.
Besides, even though I always will root my phone, one shouldn't have to for reliable functionality.
I think the only Android phone I will ever buy is a Nexus. Wait,I can't even buy an effing Nexus! LG should allow special Nexus purchasing concessions for all g2x owners. It might help me get rid of this nasty taste in my mouth
Now this phone is to old and too forgotten to have any hope. If you love this phone, great. But, my etudes phone is still completely stock. If you haven't driven a completely stock g2x lately. Try it. It is a pathetic sluggish joke that might be funny if it didn't freeze up during the performance all day long.

You forgot to note that its horrible battery life as well with those mods.

Yes, the almost vanilla Android was a major reason I got a G2x. Like others, I assumed that meant quick updates. And while I agree that it has very solid hardware that should perform better today than it would with old software, it's still nothing like the Note 2 I got to replace it.
As other have mentioned, a big failure with the phone, other than updates, is the camera. I have small kids, and the 2 second lag makes the camera next to useless. Even if the kids hold still long enough, the camera quality isn't very good.
Overall, I was happy with the phone for most of the 18 months I had it. If it had a better camera and got reasonable updates, I probably would have waited until my contract was up (although t-mo was great about upgrading me early, to my surprise).

My words exactly. It was my first android and I did enjoy it, very briefly. Until the first freeze and random reboot. Of course that happened while I still could have returned the damn korean crap but I figured tmo and lg said they'll fix it right away, and they couldn't possibly abandon their customers right?!
Anyway. Finally dumped that piece of shmit and got a gs3. Can't be happier with this device, xda and t-mobile truly unlim h+

Ditto here. This was my first foray into the smart phone world (had a feature phone previously) and the big reason I got it was because of the "pure vanilla Android experience" they were touting about it. I expected frequent updates, and a phone I'd be using for years.
Now, I'm torn. I actually still love my phone, but the lack of any *stock* update is disappointing. There are lots of roms/mods out there, but none of them are perfect, and I'm not hard core enough to try out different ones.
Actually, if I could just have a GPS that worked 95% of the time I'd be pretty happy. I've tried so many different tweaks and still can't get it to work fast and consistently.
And as much as I'd love to upgrade and get a Nexus 4 (which I'm close to being eligible for) the lack of a removable battery and an SD slot are VERY big downers.

If it couldn't keep up then you wouldn't still be seeing kernels and ROMs being made and updated for this phone.
LG may have never gave the phone the support it deserved but this site sure has and I thank them for that.
Actually support of g2x is dying. Many great devs have moved on to better and newer phones.
LG never again for me! That's why I was so disappointed when goggles announced nexus 4 by lg...
Verizon SUCKS with updates, and they tried their damndest to keep certain apps widgets and irons of my new Note 2. Thankfully, that's why XDA exists. The bootloader took awhile to get unlocked, but we finally have some kernel/rom options and development from other carriers is making its way to our forums. God stuff.

Its more nvidias fault then lg's. Nvidia is closed source so ofc there not gonna try and help LG out by giving them the drivers they needed for hw acceleration. If anything Google choosing LG for the nexus 4 boosted LG as a company as they actually release updates every other day practically, it is a nexus phone.. Just look at how well the LG nexus 4 has sold for proof. Nvidia and there closed source tegra need to stay off android IMO as they only hurt and delay android devices getting updated.
