Hi,
I have a Captivate (rooted and unlocked). When I updated to JH7 a few months ago, the unlock was lost. However, I had written down the ulock code from before, and it worked again.
Now, I got a new captivate for my wife, which came with JH7 preloaded. I have tried searching the forum and used the SGS unlock tool with no luck. With so many posts, I am all confused now. Can someone point me to the right direction?
Regards
Nick
I use this to root....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=751182&highlight=unleash+beast
then search for one click decrippler, that is what i used to enable sideloading.....or flash a rom that has it built in.
Thanks.. but I don;t see how this will help me "unlock" the phone i.e, enable me to use the phone on ANY GSM carrier.
Regards
Nick

I am on JH7 and I used the One Click Root for Captivate by TGA_Gunnman and it worked like a charm. I can't find the link for it right now, but I will look later and edit this post if/when I find it. Once the phone was rooted, I was able to use the Samsung Galaxy S Unlock Tool from the market successfilly.
Found it. This is what I used to root the phone:

Here's some info that may help you.

YouTube video on unlocking
I hope you get it working.
just flash back to jf6 and get your unlock code. Keep it somewhere safe and if you ever need it again you have it at your disposal.

I tried that also but the 1.0 version says I am missing the file.
The file the unlock tool is looking for has been moved and encrypted when you install the new Froyo ROM. Even if you flash back to 2.1 ROMs, you won't have that file back. I read that somewhere there is a thread in dev section to help you recover from that but it will be very difficult thing to do because this file is not part of the firmware (each phone has a different file/unlock code).
What you should have done is unlock first in 2.1, save the unlock code somewhere and flash to Froyo firmware. The unlock code for your phone will never chang (based on your phone's IMEI number).
Right now I am kicking myself I didnt save the unlock code somewhere =(

Then you're probably screwed. You have to wait until you can get one from AT&T.
Hello, i followed the exact instructions as said on this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761408
I had tried the one click unlock method prior to this one and it showed file not found so i moved to this long method. I did everything properly but basically when i open sgux.exe to read my nv_data.bin that is in c:\ this is what shows up.
"
SGUX v0.91b (C) 2010 By Mark0 & rbnet
Samsung Galaxy Unlock code eXtractor
(based on a tip posted by rhcp0112345)
Opening file <nv_data.bin>...
Searching code block...
Found.
Searching code...
C:\
"
So basically it says that it found the code but it does not even display the number. I actually opened the nv_data.bin file using a hex editor and i can see that there is some sort of data in there (this probably means that my code is in there) but i dont know why this sgux.exe can not read it.
Can somebody please help!
One thing i should mention is that this phone i recently bought and it came with firmware "t959uvji6" i tried to use the one step unlock method here and failed then realized i should downgrade to "t959uvjfd" and i followed the instructions of of the xda website doing this using odin with both the pda and the pit file. So everything worked. Then i tried one click method again and it didnt work. so i tried the long method and i have shown the results above!!
Please help!
Thanks

Hi there;
Having a bit of trouble rooting my Infuse 4G. I am new to the Samsung world of Android and this is my first ever Samsung device. Used to HTC and LG phones.
I've had experience rooting before (LG Optimus 3D, HTC Incredible S, Xperia X10 etc) but I can't seem to get this one. I followed a thread for rogers specific phones and it did not work. Tried an AT&T thread and it wasn't successful either. Also hoping to unlock the phone too! SuperOne Click locked up and stopped responding and ODIN method couldn't locate my phone. even though all drivers and KEIS is installed on my computer.
Phone is running 2.3.3 OS
Any advice would be appreciated!

The Odin method is the only way to root your phone. You need to go into device manager and select the phone and update the driver as a Samsung serial device. Odin should read after that.
Thanks! I didn't know I had to go in as serial device. Thank you so much!

Would you happen to know a method to unlock the phone too without paying some company $20 for a code?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1093476\
you can try that. im not sure if it works on gingerbread. youll also need another sim card so the unlock code dialog will appear.

1. Calling the company and asking them nicely for the unlock code may work.
2. The hard way:
a. make sure you have a stock roger's rom back up.
b. odin your phone back to froyo.
c. use lost1's root and unlock thread in the q/a section. (reason: this only works on froyo)
d. get unlock code.
e. odin or heimdall back to roger's stock or whatever rom
Hello, all
I have looked and searched. I have seen a few threads and a few posts, but cannot find anything concrete about this. I even officially bricked a device trying to follow a thread (to the letter).
I have rooted and unlocked several devices in the past, and installed many ROMs before. However, this device is proving to be a pain.
Recently I purchased the Tab 2 (SCH-i705) for a very low price. It was shipped to me running Android 4.1.2 (on Verizon) and the baseband is VRBMI1. I saw MrHyde03's post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1885558) on rooting and unlocking the bootloader. However, when I flashed the aboot.img file, it toasted my previous device. No power-up, no USB recognition, no nothing. Managed to take it back and got it traded out for a new device. I now have a new Tab2, but the same setup. What I want to do is run the Slimkat ROM.
My long winded question is: can I do this? I know Verizon has made it tough to unlock the bootloader, something needed in order to add a custom recovery. Does anyone know of a method that will allow me to add the Slimkat ROM to this device? I know not many people are using it or developing for it any longer. But any help would be appreciated. Again, I have seen what MrHyde03 wrote up, but I am afraid I will brick another device by trying to flash an aboot.img file.
I did see this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48392009&postcount=1) about using Safestrap and not actually unlocking the device. I am currently doing that on my S4 since Verizon has it locked down. But I would not be able to run the ROM that I want.
Any help or pointers would be great. Thanks for reading and helping.
Cheers!
You can root it, but I don't think you can unlock the bootloader anymore. The root method is linked in one of those Hyde threads near the end. It's not his method... there's a "one click" for multiple devices that works great.

That's what I've realized. Bummer too. I'll go take a look. I hadn't seen a one-click method. Everything I've seen has to be done via Odin & ADB.
If you happen to find the easy method, let me know!
My phone is boogered up so bad that it just boots into fastboot mode. I have been unsuccessful in flashing the stock ROMs. It's the Canadian version with unlocked GSM. I'm hoping that unlocking the bootloader will help me to flash it and get it working again. I have tried using the Motorola site but it says my phone cannot be unlocked.
Anyone?? Please? I have search these forums for days and cannot find the answer to my question. If it's there I'm finding it. Any help would be appreciated.
I know Rogers allows unlocking the bootloader. As I recall, you're a Fido user (which Rogers owns) right? Are you still looking for the Fido 4.1.2 SBF? I think I can track it down for you. I'm surprised Moto won't unlock the bootloader via the website. Have you tried Motoclypse (I think it's called) to try and unlock it? I guess you'll need a running ROM first.
Lemme know what you need exactly and I'll see if I can hunt it down for you.

CWG... Thank you! I've scoured a few sites that are still up and running (best one so far is motofirmware.com.) I found and downloaded this.. 9.8.2Q-8-XT925_VQL-12.2_CANADA_VANQJBLTEFRCI_P004_CFC_fb.xml but cannot flash gpt and boot partitions. I have tried editing the xml file as suggested in other posts to prevail. Is there a way I can positively identify which region my phone is? I purchased it brand new from a Canadian seller on eBay. The listing said that it was a Rogers phone but when I unlocked the GSM the key came back as being from Fido. There was no carrier specific apps on it. I'm at the most current level of firmware on it by the carrier as of a few weeks ago.
I got the bootloader unlocked!!!! I was originally entering the code into Motorola's website through Chrome and something told me to try it through Firefox.... success!!

Awesome, so you're good to go or still need a SBF for Fido?
