I noticed a hot deal for Android tablet on fatwallet. I think it's a great deal for Android 2.2 tablet based on the fantastic price and powerful spcs. The seller site is here: Freescale A8 Android 2.2 tablet
You can take a look at it and there are also many comments about this hot baby on fatwallet.
Thx but really looking for 10in screen

Not much choice in Tegra 2 ATM or even 10" altogether. If you can wait you MIGHT want to wait and see what actually does ship from what was shown at CES...
gTablet is nice and hackable, but a number of people don't like the poor viewing angles of it's LCD panel. I don't notice this much as when I use the tablet I'm looking directly at it. (Also have a Nook Color which has better viewing angles but, again, I rarely notice this because 99.999% of the time I'm looking directly at the screen...)
If manufacturer support and kernel source are important just don't buy a Chinese tablet, or at least one w/o a western re-badger supporting it, but even then only a handful have released source. There was a list compiled by someone @ Redhat the other week, check back on /. for a link. (I got the NC because I trust B&N to support the NC for a while yet at least, presuming that they don't go under, but be aware that their customer service is beyond awful... and so far Viewsonic is supporting the gTablet...)
Also, any tablet that has 3/4G is likely to be expensive in the US as they will undoubtedly be tied to a carrier(s) who will insist on a grossly overpriced MSRP such that they can look "good" when they offer a deal if purchased w/a 2y contract, however, the total cost will be MUCH higher than even the grossly overpriced unlocked one should it even be offered.
I agree with the positive comments about the G-Tablet made by others here.
Personally, I think the criticisms of the screen are overblown. I find it more than workable and simply don't do things that make it less than optimal. No question it could be better -- but at the price point I think it really is okay.
As I have said in other posts -- I bought my G-Tablets because (1) they are here NOW; (2) the price is much better than the $699-$1100 tablets that aren't even here yet; and (3) who can put a price on the fun we are having making them like we want them? If you don' want to do that then go buy a fruity-pad at way more $$$$.
If I decide I want something else later then I'll go buy it then.
IMHO!
Rev
Thx for the comments. Thought about zpad. But it is alot higher for only difference I see is resolution. I don't like how these new ones coming out are tied to carriers. I have a cell phone for gods sake. I don't need 3g. I have wifi and tethering for that

Personally, I think the most portable size is 7" or 8". 10" is a little big to take along.

zpad does however have 3G and GPS if they are must haves for you.
For anyone interested flat compuing has 9 flatpad a-10w tablets left. Just another zpad rebadge. But with a 1366x768 screen. Having owned the gtablet too the screen is a big improvement. Oh and mine was shipped with market.
Flatcomputing.com. no i dont work for them. His just seems to be the better product.

Daml, I gotta try and verify this with you. I noticed on their site originally they had the a10w listed as 1366x768 but now it has been changed to 1024x600. How can you be sure it has the higher resolution?
Hmm ... that FlatComputing system looks identical to the gTablet ... There is no mention of a different display and the remainder of the hardware is spec'ed identical, isn't it?
For me, I must say that I *cannot stand* the reflective surface or terrible viewing angle of the gTablet. With that said, I'd still buy a gTablet, if the cost/value factored into the mix. There just isn't a better tablet going, for the money, than gTablet *with* VEGAN.

The one you recieved is 1366 x 768? The site says 1024 x 600. It only has 1 GB memory?
Daml: would you mind to send us some screenshots of the viewing angle? Since the hardware are very similar, if the screen is a big improvement, we may be able to replace the gtab screen with this one.
Thanks
Got my a10w from Flat Computing today. It's a rebranded Advent Vega. As a matter of fact, in the software update instructions it looks like "Find/Replace" missed a Vega reference, lol.
I can confirm that the unit is nearly identical to the G Tablet minus the capacitive buttons on the front of the panel. The screen is 1024x600 and DOES NOT have better viewing angles. My guess is the screen is IDENTICAL to the g tab.
So, needless to say, my A10W will be for sale shortly. Not because there is anything wrong, but I pretty much have no need for two identical tablets

It's truly rebranded, isn't ? If so, the quality should be reliable?
I noticed a Chinese tablet with awesome specs. It attracted me a lot and I almost pulled the trigger. I shared it on other site and hoped to get some helpful advices. Well, some Android fans mentioned it's exactly as same as G-tab. One guy even pointed viewsonic rebranded this matala tablet. So, what's really going on?
The tablet is, Malata ZPad
There's many versions of the tablet. Viewsonic rebranded the tablet for the US.

Malata is the OEM for G-Tablet, It is the same as G-Tab with more memory and SIM.
So, the design and patent belong to Viewsonic? Or viewsonic just bought this production and then place their logo on? I think if totally belong to viewsonic, they should have a unique brand for one product.
Does this tablet also have that stupid TnT stock interface?

I have the Zpad T2.
It has Bluetooth, I even have a Bluetooth Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard working perfectly. It's fast and I'd be lucky to get one force close a week.
The OEM case is also great, you can use it one way to watch videos (sits on probably a 70 degree angle) or the other way to type on it (on a 20 degree angle as it's sits lower).
Given all the problems I read here I'd probably say get the Zpad over the G-Tablet.

Ha Ha, yep. That makes the G-Tablet a Z-pad Clone
I also noticed the similarities and posted about it on a different forum.
Apparently the Toshiba Folio 100 also has the same chipset, but a different screen etc., not sure if they get the chips from Malata or make it themselves. Purely speculation.
I'm getting a Z-pad soon. So excited. I ordered mine with 3G & GPS, it apparently comes standard with the bluetooth, as was mentioned. Also has 1GB of Ram. Getting the docking station too.
And the UI is apparently better/more stable than stock tnt.
One of the dev's; rothnic works on a ROM for the G-tablet, based on the Zpad firmware. I'm not sure how similar it is now, but I believe that originally that was what he did. I am open to correction on that.
Actually, no matter Malata or viewsonic, this tablet adopts Nvidia Tegra2 and Freescale cortex A9. I guess that's why it's so powerful.

But you have to order them with it, they are optional. It costs quite a bit to add them.
I think you can get up to 32GB internal with the Zpad too, but I they didn't want me to order that because mine was bought as a sample through my friend's business.
It's not as dodgy as it sounds, he has an importing business, hence he is sampling their stock before importing a larger amount from them.
Is it worth to pay $150 extra on top? You can get gtab for $400 nowadays and this one shows $540.

If you have to use 3G and need GPS, then yes it might be worth it, eg. if you travelled by car a lot, or lived in a 3rd world country where wifi is not free and there is hardly any coverage. But it is up to the individual. And also the Zpad works out of the box . ha ha

If so, I will think a little again. Will contact the supplier to see what's really about the optional function.
32gb would be great. Well, 80gb,120gb...would be much much much better. :=)
seriously?! You guys just discovered that the gTablet is actually the Malata A1002(sold as zPad -- several variations)? (You never wondered why the fw updates(official) have a1002 in the name?)

Hey everyone I haven't got a clue about tablets which is why I'm asking you guys which tablet I should get. I need it mostly for school (ebooks, music, play videos online, etc). Speed isn't my biggest concern but I don't want to go back to Windows Me speeds either . Money is probably my biggest concern and I really don't want to spend a fortune on it mainly because my college funds are draining my money and my soul. Any advice would be appreciated .

so you want a honeycomb tablet or ANY tablet in general? is 450e too much? you want a good battery life? screen size 7 or 10 inch? you want future android updates? you want good xda community? tell more and i will answer
wow lol
well honeycomb would be very nice but im assuming price skyrockets w/ it so a general tablet would be perfectly okay one i would prefer to be upgradeable. I would like a good xda community because i'm sure ill try to load something on it and brick it. Battery life isn't a big concern granted it doesn't die out in like an hour. Screen size... 10in would be nice but i wouldn't mind a 7in. As for price I'd like to keep it under 300-400 but as i look up tablets it doesn't sound reasonable lool

well here are 3 tablets that i recommend
dell streak 7
pros: cheap (on amazon 300e) , good xda community, you can get working honeycomb via xda, it has tegra 2 so its powerful (fast), 7 inch screen with gorilla glass
cons: bad battery life (average 3 hours when used), no official updates anymore.
samsung galaxy tab
pros: also pretty cheap (350e on amazon), also good xda community, can get honeycomb via xda, you can make calls with it, also 7 inch screen and gorilla glass, good battery life, 3g.
cons: single core A8 processor (not so fast), no official updates anymore.
asus transformer
pros: genuine 3.0 tablet, will get all coming updates very fast, good community, GREAT screen, 10 inch wit gorilla glass screen, VERY FAST, good built quality, awesome battery life (+9 hours), everything in this device is awesome
cons: expensive (450e (altought its cheap for a 3.0 tablet)), some devices have bad speakers.
so what do you say?
EDIT: and yes i own a transformer, thats why i love it

xoom is not cheap i recommend transformer
Transformer is having tons of problems from what ive heard, the good models are very good, but youre taking a shot buying one. Iconia's are also having problems but not as much. I would recommend those two though. If you dont need SD card or usb or any of that shabang, you can get a galaxy tab 8.9, they are relatively cheap, and have the perfect screen size (8.9" )

really my transformer works great, no speaker issue or any else issues... and i dont recommend samsungs tab (10/8.9) because it has touchwiz skin on top of honeycomb so the updates are going to take ages and as for iconia tab, it has locked bootloader and not so fast updates. asus has very fast updates, good support, much more developement than any of 3.0 tabs and no skin with honeycomb
i gotta say im quite impressed w/ the transformer price but if a lot of them are not working up to par that is quite disappointing. A random question - what's the difference between a tablet pc and a tablet? Is it just the keyboard addition? does the transformer come w/ the keyboard or is that a separate purchase?

dont know whats the difference between those 2 but the transformer is 450e without the dock and 550 with the dock...
Maybe a Advent Vega?
Gotta throw in my 2 cents. I looked and Transformer and Xoom, but didn't like the price. Started hearing about the Advent Vega (Point of View Mobii), and that was my choice. Solid machine, less expensive, etc.
Honeycomb looks great and fast!
Tablet NVIDIA Tegra 250 1GHz Dual Core
Multi-touch LCD 10.1" 1024x600
RAM 512MB + 512MB NAND
WiFi
Bluetooth
GPS
3G slot (on some devices)
USB 2.0, HDMI
1.3Mpix webcamera
microSDHC slot
Pros
Unbrickable (so they say, I've flashed alot of ROM's on it)
Cons
Only 1 gb memory (512 OS, 512 apps) but SD cards up to 32 gb
Viewing angles of the screen
Here is a link to a Vega forum post, watch the video.

The Xoom is crap and way too expensive! Don't even consider it. If money wasn't a problem and you wanted a tablet, I would go with the iPad 2 or Samsung 10.1. Tablet PCs are obviously more expensive than tablets because you're actually buying a computer and not some toy. The best and relatively cheap Tablet PC is the HP TM2T. Keep in mind there are some tablet PCs upwards of 2k. Outside of the iPad, 10.1 and true tablets I wouldn't recommend anything. I think you would just be wasting money.

I would also recommend that you go to your local Best Buy and play with the tabs first hand. I did not too long in order to see HC for myself and really did like it, it is gorgeous. The Moto Xoom felt great in hands, but its screen sucked. It seemed faster than the Iconia A500 which also has the Tegra 2. That was odd. The Iconia had the nicer looking screen. I have had the original iPad and VS Gtab, but believe 7 inches is the way to go. Both 9.7 and 10.1 are IMO too big, but most people seem to disagree. Good luck!

Good choice!!!! The Transformer is the obvious choice with the keyboard dock, especially if you plan to use it for school too. As you might have guessed, I have one too for much the same reason.....except school was out for me about 16years ago, however, I wanted something I can enjoy as a tablet but also use for work e.t.c
Once again, good choice!
hello, I've been recently looking at tablets. I want something pretty decently nice, with honeycomb (which you can put on this), and just generally nice specs. But my real question is, is this thing a piece of complete crap? it's off brand for things i buy usually, but I've seen generally good reviews. I've also been looking at the Transformer and the Xoom. Thank you all for the help.
considering that you can get one on Ebay for under $250, I would say yes, it's most definitely worth it.
Even with Froyo roms, it's a very useful tablet that will probably do the things that you want it to do. Yes, the screen angles are not ideal, but they are acceptable (in my opinion)
Put it this way, is buying a transformer, or Xoom for almost twice as much going to be just as useless when the newest tablets come out for Christmas?
I believe that it's a question of perception. What do you want to use it for?
and who knows, when Ice Cream Sandwich gets released, it may be easier to port to the G-Tablet than Honeycomb.
Well the transformer is only $150 more.. ill look up a comparison between the two. That was the other one I am still honestly considering

I guess my point was, is the transformer going to be just as obsolete when the new tablets arrive? Nvidea is releasing a new tegra platform, that will basically make anything running on a tegra2 old hat. This would include the Xoom, Transformer, Iconia, as well as the G-Tablet, Adam, Vega, etc. These things depreciate faster than a car driven off the dealer's lot. Originally what, $450 when they were released? I bought mine for $300 (with a few extras) on Ebay. now they are retailing for $250 in Woot deals and Tiger Direct, while used ones on Ebay are plummeting down to nearly $200. When the new Tegra devices are released, I suspect that a G-tablet can be bought for $100 used.
What I mean, is why not save the $150 now, to put toward a better tablet down the line...The g-tablet will at least give you a less expensive introduction to the android tablet world, while still being a quite useful tool.
I would just hate to see somebody spend more money on a similar tablet that will cause them buyers remorse in 3 months or so. Of course, if you have the cash to burn, then go ahead and buy what you really want...for most people, that's an iPad...jk

Honeycomb is not completely functional on the gtab (as of now). It is missing the Honeycomb specific drivers from Nvidia (aka full hardware acceleration, high def video).
If you really care about Honeycomb you should get the transformer IMO.
Although, I am quite happy with froyo based ROMs
Others are right in saying that quad core Tegra 3s are around the corner, Tegra 2 prices might drop by the end of the year. Given how Nvidia and Viewsonic acted regarding the gtab, I foresee support for Tegra 2s dropping drastically as newer hardware gets released.
Yeah the almost fully functioning honeycomb on here is fine for me. Should be ordering my g tab this week!

Hello, I wrote a quick review for some guys that I work with. I am sure there are many reviews of the gtablet, but...
Here are my conclusions so far;
This thing is about the same size as the Xoom, and thicker than the IPAD. It is definitely not as sexy.
The screen is OK. It is not a high quality screen like you find on the other devices.
The processor is great, and the memory is sufficient. Things move pretty quick.
The ROM out of the box REALLY sucked. I was hoping to just deal with it, but Google had not approved the tablet so there were NO Google apps at all. Not acceptable. It took me a couple of hours to learn (last night till around 1:00am), but I replaced the stock ROM with a hacked ROM with everything I wanted.
This thing is really just a big Android phone with no phone or GPS.
I loaded up my Sony Reader software, downloaded all of my books, and then imported them into a DRM capable reader that is better.
Although there are some ROMs that support Gingerbread screens, I think I will stick with this 2.2 (or is it 2.3) Android feel.
What will I use it for?
Reading ebooks, PDFs (Scientific American, Maximum PC)
Google apps – maps, search
Kayak, hotels.com apps
Games (mostly for the kids) – I got Android Market to work
Web Browsing / some forum reading (via Tapatalk)
Personal email reading and contacts (no work email will be set up)
Maybe occasional Skype and Gotomeeting (camera sucks, so mostly audio)
News and weather
Of course, with the exception of reading the ebooks, I would always use the Macbook Pro if it were available.
So the speed and memory makes this all possible, but the experience (screen, size, build) is not equivalent to the expensive tablets.
Biggest complaints?
No GPS
Screen is not easy to see at an angle
I needed to root the thing to make it useful, which means I now need to stay on top of that and update it manually
The 10.1 device is a bit bigger / bulkier than I expected – the weight is the same as the ipad I believe.
I “can” watch videos on it (even 1080p), but moving the files would be a drag… it uses a microSD card that I would need to pop ion an adapter, or I could use the USB connection. Maybe I can find a way to do it with wifi or Bluetooth.
No USB charging… WTF??? It comes with a separate adapter that has to plug into the wall…
The screen is a 1024x600 which is similar to most pads, but it is really inferior to the Macbook Pro, and there is just something that is “fuzzy” about it.
Biggest positives?
Cheap - $269 delivered (no tax or shipping)

Should do what I want…
Next Steps…
See how much I actually use it for anything other than ebooks. If I do end up needing it more than I think, I would consider the Asus Transformer or something else new in the next year or so.
Hope this helps,

hello, I've been recently looking at tablets. I want something pretty decently nice, with honeycomb (which you can put on this), and just generally nice specs. But my real question is, is this thing a piece of complete crap?

The screen is complete crap.
You should look hard for something with a better screen around $300-$350. If you can find it, get it.
And I *like* my Gtab - but its really just for kicking around and messing with roms and android. The screen really is killer bad unless you use it only at night, head on
Honeycomb works, and works well, as well as you could hope for unsupported xda rom hacking - ie, no netflix, no Hardware acceleration, occasional stand on your head workarounds, and the possibility of sudden death... well, ok, not that last one.
Bottom line: if you can find it for $100-$200, and want to play with roms, and tweak, and screw with it a lot to get it to be as good as a $400 one except for the horrible screen that cannot be fixed, YES, this is your tablet.
If you want a tablet to take out of the box and use, with rom updates from the manufacturer, and a screen you can read ebooks off of, this is NOT your tablet. Even for free.
So should I just get the transformer? Ah so many decisions!
Well I'm literally about to go to fry electronics and ill test out some there. Thanks !

For $400, I'd say yeah.
Better screen, 1Kx800 resolution, 2x the ram. Yeah, looks like that's all worth $120.
Oh... and a GPS too.
Oh, and Honeycomb 3.1 from Asus. Plus lots of XDA love it seems.

I think the main question is what you want the tablet for or what to do with it.
A cheap $250-300 laptop has so much more computing power and practical use than any tablet...just a bit bulkier.
The tablet market will have much more offerings and better with faster cpus and such..just have to wait a bit.
I bought my gtab from woot 4/2011 for $275. I have installed several ROMs on it. They all are pretty good with their own pluses and minuses.
I'm currently on Flashback 5.4 HC: it looks nice and works well. Gmail, Talk - w/o video; G-Voice, Maps, Lattitude, Earth etc all work. You Tube works; a bunch of games works. The big screen is better than the phone size screen. Nice quick weather apps. Nice calendar.
What it cannot do is replace the screen and functionality of my desktop for real work.
If you can find a cheap Gtab and play with ROM's, flashing, androids quirks etc - jsut for the fun of it, then get a gtab. Fully flashable with great recovery process. Almost 99.99% Non-brickable. Get a used one for play and test.
If you want a decent a functional tablet w/o hassle, get an I-pad2.
I have read many complaints about the viewing angle of the screen, but I have had my tablet for months and I have no complaints. It has replaced my planner for work and is great for watching movies, not sharing with my neighbor.

B60 revision fixed the problems.
staples also have -$100 off any tablet but Transformer is not one of the choices I believe since it is not in stores.
you can always return it or exchange it for something else if you have a problem with it.
I have a B60 model and haven't had any serious issues other than enjoyment. I have played with every single one of the 10.1" tablets from major players (samsung, toshiba, acer, motorola) and would put this one above all others. The fact that it is $50-$100 less than the others you mentioned is pretty incredible. Asus' commitment to fast software updates is great too.
For $299 with Staples' deal, I take the Acer Iconia.
(I currently own two Transformers).
Other than a little bit of light bleed I really do not have any issues. Mine is a B40 model.
With that said, if I were buying today, I would sure take a close look at the Lenovo because I need the ability to dock the unit.

It's on the box as well as under the device. It'll say S/N: B40/B50/B60..XXXXXXX
XXX = being numbers/whatever that fill the rest for your serial
B60 is basically a later build that fixed most of the problems. That doesn't necessarily means all the previous builds were bad. But the later they are, the higher chances that your problem free.
I've enjoyed mine alot. If the Samsung had a microSD, it'd be the clearer winner. But because it doesn't the TF wins, and because it has the keyboard dock. I don't have one and i'm not sure i'll ever get one. But it's a nice option to have.
I have the transformer with the keyboard dock, and I have to say it was one of the best purchases I've made in a long time.
Very flexible, nice screen and fast response. I am now using it instead of my work laptop.

Today a dev released a working netflix patch.
That combined with the $100 coupon from Staples makes it unbeatable.
I wish I had passed on the dock for now though. The battery issues with it makes it all but worthless to me as a "dock". Hopefully the 3.2 OTA fixes it. I think just the tablet though is best android tablet available and best price for honeycomb one. You could always use a BT keyboard like any other Tab.
Asus has put out consistent OTA's, and is beta testing 3.2!! Gorilla glass, good weight, gps, NETFLIX, dual cam, sdhc(dock has sdxc)etc For $299 sheesh. No 3g but I BT tether my phone for free.
EDIT: Something else to think about-The next generation of tablets with newer Tegra chips are supposed to be some crazy...5X faster...coming out in less than 6 months.
Tegra 3 (Kal-El) series
Processor: Quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore, up to 1.5 GHz
12-Core Nvidia GPU with support for 3D stereo
Ultra Low Power GPU mode
40 nm by TSMC
Video output up to 2560x1600
NEON instruction sets from ARM
1080p H.264 High Profile video decode
The Kal-El chip (CPU and GPU) is to be about 5 times faster than Tegra 2[15]
To be released in the second half of 2011
thanks .....how much difference will it make if i dont buy the dock...and one more thing should i wait and is there any 3g or 4g coming ??
thanks
Haven't bought the dock for my TF and after a month of use I don't think I will.
Very easy device to use without the dock in my opinion. Best gadget I have ever bought!
I'm 100% happy with my transformer (B50) and undecided on the dock. If it was <$100 for the dock I'd be completely sold on it, but at $150 it's a toss-up, tbh.
Tablet itself is great, newest ROMs for it (rooted) improve speed quite noticeably but it was perfectly satisfactory without, too.
If you can get it at $299 I'd say RUN and get it. Yes, Kal-El stuff (and it's competitors) is coming but likely not till '12 and will cost a premium to start, for sure. And in the meantime you'll have a completely usable tablet at a very reasonable price to help you really know if it's something you'll use a lot.
I was unsure myself because I wasn't sure about e-books, the prime driver for me to get a tablet. I just sold off 5-10 thousand books (yes, I'm nuts) and my wife was keen on me not acquiring more I'm now mostly ok with using the tablet as a reader (DRM still blows chunks and the "buy a book here and you can only use this reader" BS is unconscionable) and the other benefits have sold me.
Do it.
using one since may, with the dock (got the bundle) and find that I use both the dock and undock mode depending on situation. eg on bus standing = undock. sitting = dock. typing is way faster using a proper keyboard.
also with a sd card slot helps me previews picture from my camera straight.
the 2 usb ports do help me along with my work. I'd say the transformer is a one darn good productivity machine that helped me with my work for the past few months. Try to get the bundle. its cheaper.
