After months of whining... One last try.
When will someone finally make a legitimate Sense app to adjust autobrightness light levels?
The default autobrightness is too bright in the dark, too dim in sunlight. I want to be able to check that autobrightness box once, and forget about it, yet still have pleasant to the eye brightness in all conditions.
CM6 has had that feature for months. Can no one hack Sense autobrightness?

Not everyone has the time or resources to learn everything. In fact, this community is here to help people who don't have that knowledge
I believe calkulin's evio rom has this in it

I've been looking since yesterday, and I finally found an app that lets you use your dual LEDs on the back of your Evo to use it as a flashlight[like many apps on the market for Droids and Nexus Ones]
They're are two apps that we know work for sure:
I personally recommend the first one because it includes brightness settings...
1) thorpe24 has found an App that allows you too adjust the brightness; it also includes a widget, but IMO its not very attractive.. but its functional!

2) The other one is LED Light [Includes Sense-like toggle Widget for quick on/off, but no brightness control]
Enjoy!
Thanks was looking for that earlier too many different choices in the market
Awesome! The widget is an instant toggle!
Thanks just what I was looking for.
WIN! *downloads* Oooooooh shiiiiiiiney
I was just looking for this earlier. Awesome find, thank you!
Awesome find! I was looking for something like this. Thanks!
Cool! I wonder why they didn't put this on it stock?
It also works or the video recorder so you can now record at night so long as you're within like 3 feet of what you're recording.
led
does anybody know of one thats let you adjust the brightness. this one compared to the one i had on my nexus is very dim
Led desire light lets you adjust brightness and has morse code it's what I use.

I like the adjustablility of LED Desire Light, but it's still not as bright as the "Flash" setting of FlashApp. The widget included with LED Light is super handy as well, so now I have three different flashlight apps installed. If only one of them could combine the features of all three...
big thanks to the OP and also Thorpe, both apps are great like the desire app better for the brightness incase I really need the extra light and the morse and SOS are cool
good find guys! i still have my HD2 laying around and those LEDs are firebright! still a good bit brighter than the evo's, but who cares! lol
Nice! Thanks!
i use switch pro...it has an led light too.

I was looking at my battery stats, after 12.5 hours my display has used 58% of my battery. Is this abnormally high for this phone?
I am using automatic brightness.
If this is not normal how can this be helped/fixed?

use a pure black wallpaper, turn off auto brightness, and set it at a lower brightness manually.
Also an app called "screen filter" works great. I have 2 widgets with these settings with the app
1) 48.6% (indoors, just to darken it a bit)
2) 25.5% (at night, dark rooms)
Of course mess with it and find what works best for you

Really don't agree w/ you there. All they do is turn the app on/off at the selected setting. If the app isn't running they aren't doing any damage.
Screen filter seems good but it gets too dark at 48 for me, ill try a bit higher. As for the black wallpaper. That looks pretty bad IMO. Is it really worth it?

It doesn't have to be completely black. Basically dark colors helps out. Try and stay away from whites as much as possible
I am using the original honeycomb background, pretty dark but with neon blue.
Im going to try 52% filter with auto brightness. Should be good.

can anyone either make me a app that makes the camera flash a notification light or point me in the right direction on how to make it myself? I am not very good at coding but I'm willing to try to learn. I know a little java and html, although it's been a while for both so i doubt they will be much good to me. Thanks!
you try noled yet? its pretty nice and almost (almost!!) makes me not miss having a notification light.

this would be awesome however I think its only doable through some custom kernel work which isn't possible as of yet since imnuts and other kernel devs have no source code

How is Noled on the battery though? I tried it on my fascinate and it seemed to eat through the battery. This has been almost a year ago though.
NoLED will slightly lower your battery life, but it's the only option we have right now. We just can't get true BLN without the source code.

It does eat your battery because it unlocks your phone. That said, it does have the option to stop itself after a set time frame. I'm never away from my phone for more than five minutes, so that works for me.
I have the proximity sensor setting on for NoLED and it saves the battery a ton! The screen stays off when it's in your pocket or holster and shows the notification as soon as you take it out. NoLED is honestly the best app I have on my charge. I love seeing the icon of the notification rather than having to remember what app was yellow or blue!
BLN seems pointless on this phone. The back light on the buttons is too weak to even notice it during the day. Which I did enjoy BLN on my fascinate, but seems like it wouldn't work very well on the charge.

That's not at all true if you're indoors. The button backlight is plenty noticeable even under fluorescent lights, and would be even moreso flashing.
I could be wrong but I believe this (BLN or back LED flash) is only possible through some custom kernel work, and since we have no kernel source code yet it can't be done... your best bet now, at the cost of battery life, would be noLED
blazing through on my VZ Droid Charge 4G
Ya it is a custom mod for a kernel. Could be cherry picked into the froyo kernel source from neldar's github.
Fyi I am having IMoseyOn take a look into it since the people have spoken

I am using Undead's ICS splashed 3.0 which comes with Nexus Torch installed. The "bright" setting is incredibly bright, but doesn't stay on steadily. I have tried a good number of flashlight apps from Market (including the HTC 3 setting clone - or is it the original?) but all seem about as bright as regular setting in Nexus Torch. It seems that they all use the video light setting as opposed to the camera flash.
Has anyone found anything, if not as bright as Nexus Torch on "bright", at least brighter then the rest?
Try teslaLED I think its called, I used it on other devices idk if it works with our phone, states its the brightest flashlight app for android..
Sent from my HTC myTouch_4G_Slide using Tapatalk
I did try it (I have it on my phone right now) and it doesn't seem brighter then the others (I also tried Brightest Flashlight, AOI Flashlight, Maxflash, Tiny, HTC clone and others) and I think it is because they use the video light. I think I even came across that point somewhere that they actually run your camera/video. The nexus one (N1 torch) is way brighter, but doesn't stay on steadily. If you run the video light while taking a video you'll see it's no where near as bright as the flash for a picture.
I also wonder how the standard HTC app has 3 different settings, and no other app does.
Lastly, I find the color of the LEDs interesting, they're not as bright white as on my HD2, does anyone have any info on them?
I've been using tesla led for years. Stable. The widget is good and it has an ics theme button which looks nice

From my experience the led being set on bright has never given me trouble on other devices. As far as I know from my various dozen or so Android phones the brightest by far has been the G2. I've kept that thing running on bright for a minimum of an hour without it giving me trouble while I had to drop the tank in my truck to change the fuel pump on the side of the road......
Frying leds is almost as fun as burning up a dry clutch hehe.

*These values also work for CM7*
I personally take no credit for this as i was searching how to set proper settings for my auto brightness using Team DIRT v1.7, so i searched all over Google and came across these settings that were recommended by the user "brkshr" over at rootzwiki, so all credit goes to him as i'm only basically copying and pasting what he has over there, hopefully it's not a big deal, if so, we can always remove this. They seem to be working just fine for me, but if any of you would like to give it a go, go ahead. I'm not responsible if your phone blows up, make a nandroid backup before you ever play with your phone settings. Shout outs to Team DIRT, CM Team for everything they've provided to us for our beloved Evil (Evo) OG (4G). If you don't find it too much to ask for, please thank the guy i bit this off of. "brkshr"

i haven't heard anything new on the compass so I'm assuming it's working just fine, i use googles maps without any issues so i would say yes it's fixed. as far as the auto brightness features, if you follow this guide, it will set your values up in a sense that it covers all types of lighting situations. i tried it out yesterday in doors and out, i'd have to say i was quite happy with the results. very responsive as well.
Am I doing something wrong? I tried following the steps here but my screen was so dim that I could barely see it indoors.
I am on Deck's Reloaded and I changed the number of levels to 20 and tried to mimic the settings but didn't have any luck. When I change the number of levels the "upper" value (that can't be changed) are all 0...Do I need to do something to change that? I tried just going through and setting it like in the attachments but maybe I did something wrong.

Change the entries under "screen" to something higher until it looks good to u. I like mine a little brighter, so I started with "0,80,0" as the first line, and then increased as I went down the list. Hope this makes sense.

I think you guys misunderstood my question earlier. Last time I tried cm9 (about two weeks ago) the custom auto brightness settings could not be changed, they would revert as soon as you exit the menu even after hitting save and apply. Also the time it took to adjust to changing light conditions was +10 seconds and basically unusable. (I saw in the changelog it was this way because they werent able to get custom auto brightness and the compass working at the same time). So am I to believe this is not the case anymore?
