*These values also work for CM7*
I personally take no credit for this as i was searching how to set proper settings for my auto brightness using Team DIRT v1.7, so i searched all over Google and came across these settings that were recommended by the user "brkshr" over at rootzwiki, so all credit goes to him as i'm only basically copying and pasting what he has over there, hopefully it's not a big deal, if so, we can always remove this. They seem to be working just fine for me, but if any of you would like to give it a go, go ahead. I'm not responsible if your phone blows up, make a nandroid backup before you ever play with your phone settings. Shout outs to Team DIRT, CM Team for everything they've provided to us for our beloved Evil (Evo) OG (4G). If you don't find it too much to ask for, please thank the guy i bit this off of. "brkshr"

First, I think you mean Deck's Reloaded ROM. Second, if you want to emulate the number of levels in the OP, just hit the button at the bottom that says "set number of levels."

i haven't heard anything new on the compass so I'm assuming it's working just fine, i use googles maps without any issues so i would say yes it's fixed. as far as the auto brightness features, if you follow this guide, it will set your values up in a sense that it covers all types of lighting situations. i tried it out yesterday in doors and out, i'd have to say i was quite happy with the results. very responsive as well.
Am I doing something wrong? I tried following the steps here but my screen was so dim that I could barely see it indoors.
I am on Deck's Reloaded and I changed the number of levels to 20 and tried to mimic the settings but didn't have any luck. When I change the number of levels the "upper" value (that can't be changed) are all 0...Do I need to do something to change that? I tried just going through and setting it like in the attachments but maybe I did something wrong.

Change the entries under "screen" to something higher until it looks good to u. I like mine a little brighter, so I started with "0,80,0" as the first line, and then increased as I went down the list. Hope this makes sense.

I think you guys misunderstood my question earlier. Last time I tried cm9 (about two weeks ago) the custom auto brightness settings could not be changed, they would revert as soon as you exit the menu even after hitting save and apply. Also the time it took to adjust to changing light conditions was +10 seconds and basically unusable. (I saw in the changelog it was this way because they werent able to get custom auto brightness and the compass working at the same time). So am I to believe this is not the case anymore?

After months of whining... One last try.
When will someone finally make a legitimate Sense app to adjust autobrightness light levels?
The default autobrightness is too bright in the dark, too dim in sunlight. I want to be able to check that autobrightness box once, and forget about it, yet still have pleasant to the eye brightness in all conditions.
CM6 has had that feature for months. Can no one hack Sense autobrightness?

if u want to adjust auto brightness on sense roms, it's a lot more complicated than on cm7, i believe u have to decompile framework-res.apk and edit /res/values/arrays.xml. But to what values specifically, u're on your own..

Important note: a lot of themes include changes in the framework-res.apk, so if you want to use a theme make sure that either the framework-res is not touched or change it again based on that guide.
btw: could you share your settings for cm7? I'm using it now and it'd be much appreciated.

With the default levels of brightness I edited the 3rd column values to
1
20
35
40
45
50
55
60
65
75
85
140
These are my values for relatively energy saving xD so the screen in normal conditions with brightness at around 15-25% then in sunlight it will go to about 55%, because you don't really need 100% brightness to look at words, you can edit them accordingly to your needs
Note, tick the Allow light decrease, so that when the conditions are not that bright, it will decrease screen brightness according to the levels you have set, and the decrease levels I've set it to 70%, working qquite well for me
Hope this helped!

How can i do it?
I saw another forum that I go, there are more users to the ICS officer, with the same problem ...
Here is what I noticed, It does it on my phone to. Any app that does not run in the background when I lock the screen does that same flash, including just having the homescreen open. But, if I have a app that runs in the background when off, it does not happen, like using my tracks.
My initial thought of this is apps that go dormant when locking phone cause that screen flash during that go bye bye process.
I would like to see this fixed. This is just what I noticed, I could be way off track.

I am proud to present the JoyOS Revamped Port. This port is a chinese rom that can be found at http://www.joyos.cn/. It is based on Decks Gingerbread 1.3 so it is stable.
** Based on JoyOS port presented by Mr_LJE so thanks to him!
** 3G is working straight from boot. No need to set APN (thanks to dumpydooby and mazdarider23 for their input on this)
** Device is not supported issue with Market has been resolved. All apps should be good to go straight from boot.
** Thanks to Deck for a great GB base to work on
** BlindnDumb for his porting guides that this was based on originally
** Shout out to JamieG71 for the input on baking a kernel and shout out to ropodope simply cuz he is a bad ass and deserves a shout out whenever possible!!
The Goods:
- 3G working from boot
- Fully working Market
- build.prop tweaks for battery and speed. This thing moves fast!!
- Mason G - v0.14 sbc baked in already!! (thanks to atyoung for such a great kernel!)

- Updated Beats audio libs to Rocko's latest (any EQ manager may FC and is a known issue with the libs directly and NOT the rom)

- Added JoySettings to allow center clock mod and iOS look (only to the one w/iOS notification) Please see screenshot in 3rd post
- Roaming indicator removed
6/29/2012 [JoyOSRevampedv2.2]

To be honest I havent even tried GPS. I was born and raised in my city so I pretty much know where everything is at and if I don't I pretend I do and eventually end up where I need to LOL. Since this is Deck based, I would assume the common GPS fix for AOSP GB or CM7 would work with this rom. I just downloaded the Google Maps app and it took 10 seconds from initial startup to update and locate me. It said accurate within 20 meters however the icon was right above where I am (since I live on the corner of an intersection) and was even pointing the way I was facing. I would say it works. If anything, make sure that you have GPS and wireless networks selected under settings and location. Remember, from boot it is different so you were asked this. I baked in the GApps used for Decks 1.3 so market can work. If you declined the consent for Google to use your location based on blah blah blah then it may be a problem. Just go to settings location and enable both. Then go to setting applications and clear data on Google Maps just for safe measure. When you reload maps, it should take roughly 15 seconds to load, update and pin point you. If not, like I said try one of the fixes available and let me know so I can update the OP and eventually bake it in. It works good for me so thats what I am going based on. I need feedback from my downloaders to tell me what is wrong so I can determine if it is user or my error.
I have to say this rom is fast as can be. GPS locked on instantly for me too. The only thing I can't find is how to add a folder. I must be blind..I can add pretty much everything but that. Anyway the rom itself is very solid and snappy so awesome job! Just not really into the whole iPhone look. I'm kinda anti-ipad/phone at the moment. They seem to appeal to the simple minded computer users for the easeability factor making them even more lazy and helpless...lol..kind of ironic that I can't find a folder option but I feel I've looked in every corner of this rom. When you click menu you can add widget wallpaper or theme and that's it. Please tell me I'm not blind

Appreciate the feedback. By default there is no shortcut to add a folder. You can long press on an app and drop it in the Utilities folder. You can also go to settings, others under Personal Manage, CM settings, Input and change the long press settings for the home or menu button. From there you can choose a custom setup and folder shortcut is an option. Then again I have rom toolbox and root explorer installed giving me these options.
Really like this one so far. Downgraded from a evo 3d that phone is crap for roms lol. My battery died in 4 hours with light use. Might be a different problem I have on my hands

The best way to tell if it worked would be to run it when your screen is already at full brightness. You'll see it go a bit brighter.
Tested on T-Mobile Note II, but this may work in many Samsung Galaxy phones.
It worked!
Could you tell me why it can be increase?
And do you know how many nit when increased?
Thank you!

I don't know and I have no idea.
My guess is that when auto brightness is enabled Samsung allows the device to go a bit brighter in direct sunlight. This Mod seems to half way enable auto brightness so that the screen goes brighter but doesn't enable the light sensor.

The brightness limitation is at 250, this mode makes it 299.
Sounds a good mod just a bit weary of any damage

Thnx for the info, but will it then decrease the screen life? I think that the brighter the screen and the longer - the sooner it will get worse (old etc)

By this logic we should keep the brightness at 20 percent. The brighter it gets the faster the quality decreases in the long run.
I can guarantee one thing: when you'll change your device, this screen mod will not be one of the reasons.

I might have been wrong saying that. When i checked paranoid and applied the mod it didn't work. But today i tried it on galaxy s III with cm10 and it unexpectedly worked. So I'm not quite sure what the deal is. Anyhow I'm gonna take the chance. The brightness gained is too great.

Just want to be sure I understood correctly.
Every time after reboot or setting auto brightness I need to install this APK? No way to make changes permanent?

You need to run the app every time, not install the apk.

Yeah the default setting is not enough in some cases.
Installed and working perfectly in Westcrip's LJ3. Very useful for a sun shining day (like today). Thx.

Just back to say it works perfectly and say thanks OP and quertiy for all the help! That's why I love XDA! hahaha
Now I don't need to be jealous about my Galaxy Note I brightness anymore! Thanks, thanks, and thanks!
You could easily make a script that would do the echo at boot. Im no expert but I think it would happen from /etc/init.d. I'm sure someone smarter than me will chime in hopefully. ...

Using tasker to run the program at boot its the way to go. The problem is you have to run the program every time you activate auto brightness. Solution to both problems: use perseus kernel. It includes this mod.
