I feel like a newb asking this question, but the Tilt doesn't have Internet Sharing like the roms for the 8525. The Wireless Modem utility doesn't work worth a chit. I've search for an hour to find a cab for installing Internet Sharing but I can't find it. Surely some of the masters here has come up with one.
Or could I just grab the exe file off my 8525 and run it with any "installing"?

SWEET! Thanks!!
Advantage? So far it is the best option for tethering my laptop. PDANet worked like a charm, but with Internet Sharing it's not need anymore.
I was trying to get the Tilt to work like a modem for a couple hours last night and it would disconnect every time it got to "Registering computer on network". I saw that Internet Connection Sharing (post 30) and gave it a go. Tethered like a charm, 768kbit down ~125ms latency.
The file \Windows\Internet Sharing.lnk contains this text:
41#:MSINTERNET_SHARING?:intshruiapp
And I just copied it to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and can run it from there or the shortcut I created in the HTC Home plugin. You don't have to do anything on the PC to use it either, except have ActiveSync (I think it requires even less because activesync automatically disconnects when this is in use).
I cant get ICS to work on the Tilt. I get "cannot connect for unknown reason" error in ICS window. Any ideas?
Is your "Network Connection" set to MEdia Net? I have two things on my list, that and "AT&T ISP GPRS". If I try that one, it tries to connect a bunch of times then dies with the unknown reason thing.
It gave me that same message if I end-tasked ActiveSync on the PC, so I'd say make sure they both say connected before trying to connect the internet sharing.
Yes, its set to Medianet. Do I need to be connected to my laptop for this to work? I didnt think so.
swweeet i got it working thanks everyone

help with tethering
Hello everyone I did some of the applications last night on trying to setup my tether to my tilt but its not connecting. I could not find internet sharing to change those setting on download needed cab for it. My phone is set media net and have the correct ip and subnet gateway so what am I missing??
It seems AT&T was pretty successful in killing Tilt Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) with the introduction of 6.1. It was seamless until the upgrade, now it is not. Lotsa complicated workarounds been posted here for the past year and a half. I wish someone who is doing it successfully would post a set of step by step instructions. We novices keep sorting through all these posts on the subject and if there is light at the end of the tunnel, it needs a new bulb!! With data plans getting more and more lucrative for the carriers, tethering is getting more and more important, anyone got a simple answer?
Anyone get one of the free WiFi Router/Hot Spot apps to work in the i920?
Tried the link at /forum.xda-developers.com / showthread.php ?t=357152 [which I can't post as a noob] - program installs and runs, but no Access Point is visible to other computers.

Need better link. Post #2 what thread?
Followed the instructions at
http : // forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=20628
still with no success. No computer can see the phone as an AP or Ad-hoc router
YES! I used it on my i760 and when I upgraded to Omnia 2, that was the FIRST thing I installed. Use it everyday. Everyone in our house connects to it. Am using now to post on this thread!
Are you sure you have ICS?
I installed that FIRST, then wifirouter. Started right up.
FYI --
If you really want an updated and 100% working version of WMWR for the i920, I suggest you go download the latest trial from www.wmwifirouter.com because this new version (while it is not free, there is a 30 day trial) will automatically install and configure itself. The earlier versions were not nearly as advanced as the latest version, and it is worth every penny if you decide to buy it.

I'm typing this using the Verizon OmniaII-920 [using nothing but the files attached]. Been using this setup since the II came out. It works.......bout all I can say
thanks ChillyCat , can you provide more details.
i'm lost here
You're right it doesn't show up on my thinkpad wifi map, even if I clinck find to remap.
But if you plug in the usb cable that came with the phone you can do WIFI to USB.
This works great, and is faster than DSL.
questions to [email protected]
I tried two other progs. I now have this running and have been using it daily since 2010.
This is the only connection I use with my laptop. The only problem I've had is if I fall asleep and
leave everything on, it might hang in the morning. "time out". But then I just reset my phone and
everythings back to normal. This is the BEST router app. It connects using WiFi, Bluetooth, micro USB
or any other hardware your phone can support. Currently averaging about 3.5 Mbps
it works for omnia2 i8000. heres how: 1. install first the WMwifirouter software only on you WMphone. 2. run the software in you WMphone. 3.in your laptop or wifi capable PC search the WMwifirouter wifi signal. 4. Finally connect it. then.. it works!!! you can now start your internet.

Okay, need a little bit of assistance to see what basic step I am missing. I've just taken my stock Sprint HTC Hero (1.56 RUU), rooted it using the steps on the site here, and flashed the Fresh 2.1 ROM onto the device through the MicroSD Card. Between the rooting and the custom Flash, I was hoping this would be enough to get tethering working but I seem to be stuck somewhere.
When I attempt to use the Wifi Tether for Root that's built in, no other computer is able to see the created access point, so as a result, no connections, no data passing. It doesn't shoot up any error message, nor does it cause any interruption in my mobile network data as a result. So everything appears to work well, just not tethering.
Maybe related, maybe not, when I try and do a straight-up wired tether, I get an Error 67 saying my Sprint username and password are wrong. I was hoping that with just rooting the phone now and using a Fresh ROM that is post when they found out about the PRI issues that it would fix it. My PRI currently shows as flipz_01.
So, I've done the research, I've come up with solutions that appear to be helpful, I'm just wanting to get a little assurance of the next step I need to do to make sure this works, still new to the Android flashing process.
Thanks!
When you used WiFi tether, were you prompted to give it superuser permissions? If so, did you allow?

Yes, was prompted, and told it to always allow.

The version that comes with the latest Fresh 2.1 ROM is 1.6, so I don't think that's the issue.
The thing that concerns me is that the PRI says "flipz_01". Most everyone on here seems to have PRI numbers that match something completely different, and I am worried that mine may have been overwritten. I have done a check for an updated PRL since I moved to the custom ROM, but nothing with the PRI.
Honestly, I didn't do anything fancy at all. I just fired it up and looked for the ESSID on my laptop. When I selected it to connect, I went back to the phone, selected menu, Access Control, and selected my laptop to allow the connection. It just worked from there.

Don't sweat that. He did that so you could tell that the proper PRI is being used. As long as your PRL is 60663 or 60664, you are good to go.
pri is why the wired tether through htc sync doesn't work, and you can't do anything about that, I'm afraid. Uninstall wireless tether and try to reinstall. It worked great for me when I was on fresh rom.

... and it is 60664, so that's good.
Now as far as an ESSID code, where on the laptop did you find that? Assume I'm running Windows 7 ... cause I am!
And, a secondary question for my own familiarity. Should I be seeing an infastructure access point with this wireless tether or is everything done ad hoc?
danaff37: Since the wireless tether is cooked in to the Fresh ROM, is uninstalling going to involve re-cooking the ROM or is there an app I need to acquire to make the process doable? I don't mind if that's the case, although it will certainly be more of an adventure! Good to know on the wired tether with HTC Sync too, I'll try the wired tether app for that purpose.
it's an ad hoc network.
did it ask for su permission when you stopped it as well?
... and with that I think we have our answer. Just tested this on an older XP laptop with Intel ProSet since it does a great job of seeing ad hoc wireless, and it saw it right off the bat. I did notice that the app didn't remember my custom SSID, which is fine as long as I can tell what SSID to use.
(Now asking about ESSID feels a bit silly)
That said, should Windows 7 be seeing these ad-hoc networks in its normal view, or do I need to specially program those names in?
danaff37: Yep, it's allowed in both directions. SU was never an issue which is why I was initially a bit fooled.
(and go figure, my Win7 laptop sees it now, I think it was playing tricks on me!)
Thanks for the help guys, there are great tips in here for newbies like me getting used to the tethering.
I think it defaults to "HTCTether", but don't quote me on that. You can change it to whatever you want in the wireless tether app in its settings/preferences.
Bring up your wireless network connection manager on your pc and let it scan for available networks. Hopefully, the tether will be listed.
I have win 7 64 bit, and it picks it up fine. Shows up after a couple of seconds of turning it on.
default is g1Tether
I am running Win 7 Ultimate 32-bit and it found it without any problems as well. I haven't tried it on Linux yet. May be time to reboot just to see....
I have a fully functional wired tether and wireless tether setup on my phone running Fresh 2.0d (I have also changed my PRI)
all the information to do this is readily availible if you search
I usually have to start wifi tether and then go to mobile network and uncheck it then check it again then I can get on the internet.
Edit: This works with Linux and Windows. In Linux I had trouble connecting, I used Wifi Radar to do it. It works perfectly after that.

This. There's a thread on getting MNS working, I actually was using it for two weeks until we got our internet turned on. Worked great and I transferred over 3GB with no problem.
same thing for me
flipz pri is 1.70, and thats the correct one, although to my knowledge wired tether doesnt work, only wireless tether works, when you first open wireless tether, it should ask you to allow superuser permissions, you have to make you sure you click always allow. Make sure you use wireless tether 1.6 it works best.
I got the wireless tether app and when I use it, no device can find it. I press start tethering and nothing is happening, it doesnt show up on any device wifi like my iphone and my laptop. Any ideas?
I am now using pre8. I went into the settings and set up my own SSID and security. If you haven't done that, I would start there. I also had to reboot my phone after my first install as the phone locked up on me.
Sometimes I do have issues with getting my laptop to connect properly. It will get an IP address, but not be able to connect to the internet because it doesn't get assigned a gateway.
Going into Access Control and then doing a 'Reload Client List' when this happens cures the problem.
I just downloaded cognition v2.1.7 (unhelpfuls kernel) from Eclair stock. I now have the mobile ap option in my wireless folder but when I click it the ap is "not responding". I am very happy with everything so far except this one issue. Is there something I have not done like a setting change or is this an outright problem with my download? Do I need to download a wireless tether ap in addition to the new rom? Also wanna give mad kudo's to designgears. My speed and over all use of the phone now is nothing short of incredible. Will be donating soon and suggest all who use do the same. Designgears you rock!
unhelpful 1.7 or 1.6? try 1.6 - afaik 1.7 has some bugs with init.d scripts
Ok if I download 1.6 will I lose all my info? Ap's phonebook etc.?
Will I lose all info if I flash 1.6? Should I do this on a full battery and could that have been a problem on first flash?j
just disable lag fix prior to flashing. And always do backup
First and foremost, thank you very much for your advice. Where can I find the lag fix? I think voodoo installed with 2.1.7 but I have no app icon for it. I have everything backed up on titanium ( I asked that before thinking because of a prior problem) but thanks also for the reminder.

You should have the lagfix by default. You heard the robot voice the first time you booted after installing 2.1.7, right? To disable the lagfix, 1.Create an extension-less file or a folder name "disable-lagfix" in /sdcard/Voodoo 2.Reboot.
If you're new to cognition, you should read the FAQ.
As far as your problem with mobilAP, I am running 2.1.6 with Atinms kernel, so I don't know if there is a problem with 2.1.7, but I think it should work correctly. When you click the AP Mobile Settings item in Wireless and Network, you should get a screen with a check box to turn on Mobile AP, plus some info. When you turn Mobile AP on, you get a screen with directions, including a passcode.
Maybe you should try reinstalling 2.1.7, or alternatively try 2.1.6.
Yeah, I did, thought bout that a second after the last post. I am going to try .6, but when I do, do I flash over .7 or do I need to reflash stock and then download? I'm assuming if you guys are saying disable voodoo then there is no need to flash stock, just wanna make sure. I already have a Blackberry paper weight I don't need a 500 dollar captivate one beside it too lol.

Might be a bad download. You can try getting it from the market. Next time you have wifi access, turn on airplane mode, then turn on wifi. Market search for wifi tether. Get the one that has the green wifi bars as the app symbol.

Wow I didn't think I'd be this much of a pain to you folks trying to get this working. Thanks for replying again & again!
Installed "Wireless Tethering" free app from marketplace, and it just "FC" fails when I run it. It DOES have SU privs, confirmed.
When I go to App Settings, i see I have Wireless Tether ver 23 installed, and I have an option to "uninstall updates".
2 prereqs listed in Market:
1 Rooted (yes, I am rootted)
2 Netfilter-enabled kernel (I have absolutely no idea. I'm Captivate stock, 1-click rooted, and UTBV0.2.
Can anyone tell me how to tell if I have a netfilter-enabled kernel, or how to get one?
Should I Uninstall Updates, and Reinstall?
I know for sure pre8 works on a stock captivate.

OK so I have had my Transformer for 2 days now and so far it has been little more than a paper weight. I have not been able to download a single app from the market. I've tried everything suggested here (cancel/restart, reboot, etc) with no luck. I have not been able to even update Google Maps or install Flash Player, literally I have not been able to install anything. I've tried stock and rooted plus I cannot get any version of Prime to install (finally got the root and CWM installed). Lastly, since this is a Wifi only device it is important to wireless tether with my cellphone. Two days and I still cannot get it to work, will not even find the device. Only 2 days of ownership and I am completely frustrated with this thing. I really like and want the micro SD capabilities but if I can't resolve this ASAP it will need to go back to the store.
Anyone have any suggestions on what all I can try? Please help!
Sorry, I'm a little busy to look for the direct links.
Just look-for the vanilla NVFlash then add the Prime 1.5 (nvflash version). Dump them together into a folder then run the batch file. Simple !
I just helped two co-workers with their brand-new TFs getting rooted this way.
Maybe 5-10 minutes top.
Make sure you unzip the downloaded Prime file (it becomes 4 files). Read the NVFLASH post and have the USB driver ready.
Thanks man I'll give it a shot here shortly
Good luck.
And if you ever have a need to get back to stock (refund maybe ?), there is a stock-ROM (nvflash version), just as easy to get back.

You don’t have to root or flash with a custom rom to get the basic stuff like Wi-Fi. Everything works out of the box as advertised. If something doesn't then either you are doing something wrong or there is a fault with your device. Did you try connecting to a normal Wireless Router? Honeycomb can not see some types of adhoc networks without installing a patch (i.e created by Windows, this may be applicable to some phones too, however it worked fine with My Galaxy S).

Hi, sometime the problem is in the market. not the device itself. I got similar experience with my HTC device. I've installed many ROMs but the market always screwed. So what I did was, just reset your device, when it asks the Google account, type in your email like this: [email protected] instead of just blablabla or [email protected]

I guess your phone is offering up an adhoc connection, which Android doesn't support out of the box. It should work fine with phones that offer up a true infrastructure hotspot. Personally, I think adhoc networks should die a horrible death, but I appreciate their necessity if that's all your phone can do.
Search for adhoc and you should find a solution to this issue. You can also try PDAnet (tablet) too.

Dave

Ad hoc issue appears to be most relevant.
Market download issues =software issues not hardware. If you do not have any other wifi option then go to McDonald's or Starbucks and try it on their wifi.

My EVO 3D, iPod, TV all work with it hidden.
Does someone know if you can setup the TF to connect with hidden SSID?
Thanks
Thanks for the advice all. I don't have a custom ROM on it yet, just rooted. I can't get the zips to work. Says cannot open (bad). Will try re-downloading for a 5th time and see how goes it. I did figure out the wifi issue on my phone - it was ad hoc as stated and it recognizes my phone now but still won't download apps (says it's downloading but never does). Tried cancelling and restarting several times as well as factory resetting the device. Does the same thing when I connect to my home network as well.

My Wifi network is hidden and I had no issue connecting my TF.
What type of router and what settings does it have?
I am using a NetGear WNDR3700 (802.11-g,n). The TF connects to the 2.4 GHz section over 802.11n.
Is it wise to be playing with recovery images and custom ROMS, if you can't get basic market functionality working?
Clearly before changing your TF from stock, get the market working, this is almost certainly a probem with your Wifi router...
The only problem I am aware of with the Transformers Wifi, is sometimes it does not getting a DHCP address when coming back from sleep (use Static IP), the TW release has this fixed, but the WW does not for some reason, i'm guessing they know 3.2 is incoming soon.
Follow these steps to get the market working:
I don't exactly know what the problem is, but I've had it on a couple of phones before. I do NOT have a googlemail account, so that wasn't the problem.
I deleted all cache/data from the following programs: Market, MarketUpdater, Downloads, Download manager, googleapps (anything that seems relevant)
now first go on a computer, open your gmail via gmail.com, send a mail, edit some contacts, just make sure you do something! Now reboot your eee pad, accept the market policies and see if it works....
If this doesn't fix it, then I have no options left
Update: I ultimately returned my TF (I had already suspected that I didn't receive a new device due to other issues and packaging). I received the new TF yesterday (A+ to Amazon.com). The new TF was 1000x better. Loaded right up, connected, market apps loaded easily, quickly and on the first try. All in all I am pleased. And the root and ROM installs worked flawlessly. Actually enjoying my TF now. Thanks all for the advice and help!
