Ok, so I just took the tutorial written by Slimdizzy and have modified it for Windows users, as he stated he was using a Mac, and a lot of people seem to be having issues getting this working. Go easy on me this is my first TUT write up, I hope it helps......If anyone has a correction or a suggestion please let me know.

When I rooted my Telus HTC Desire the first time it was hit and miss, if I remember correctly I did it 3 times until it worked 100%, by this I mean Unrevoked/Root ran without hitch, and after running Unrevoked I was able to reboot into Android, and then reboot back into recovery on my first try without any weirdness.....
The following steps are what I did to get my drivers installed and working the first time, rooting the phone, installing Radio 5.09.00.20, and getting a custom ROM installed (I used OpenDesire)
First things first you need the drivers, this is the most important part. Nothing will ever work for you if you don't have the right drivers installed.
Drivers:
1. Download the Android SDK here: http://dl.google.com/android/android-sdk_r06-windows.zip
2. Unzip and place the files in C:\Android. You can place the files wherever you want but my steps will use this location.
3. Run SDK Setup.exe , if you get the Failed to fetch URL error, hit close and then go to Settings and enable Force https://. Then click on Available Packages, near the bottom you will see USB Driver Package, place a check mark beside it and then click Install Selected.
Alternatively you can try using these drivers, they have worked for other users but I have not installed my drivers using this method so I can't say how well they will work.....

4. Android SDK will download your drivers and place them here C:\android\usb_driver.
Now plugin your Desire with USB Debugging enabled (Settings --> Applications --> Development). Windows will prompt you for the device drivers, point windows to the C:\android\usb_driver folder and it should do it's thing. YOU MUST BE SURE TO INSTALL THE ADB DRIVERS, without those Unrevoked will not run.
5. Once all your drivers are installed, you can verify them by checking with the Android SDK
Open a DOS prompt (CMD in the Run box) and navigate to C:\android\tools and then type "adb devices", it should return a funny device name/ID, if you see a device listed then you are good to go, if you don't then repeat these steps until you do, check your Device Manager for an uninstalled device/driver.

Steps for Rooting:
***Follow these steps after you are 100% sure you have the drivers right!***
***DO NOT plug you Desire into your computer yet***
1. Goto http://unrevoked.com and download the software
2. You now have a choice of recovery, Amon RA has released an SLCD version of his recovery, which in my opinion is much better, it has a few more features than Clockwork. I recommend Amon RA, but the choice is yours.

3. Go to HBOOT, this is done by shutting down your phone and powering on the device while holding the Power button down and pushing Volume down at the same time, once HBOOT is loaded do a wipe (Clear Storage). You can navigate the menus by using the volume rocker and the Power button to select your option.
4. Load Unrevoked and load the custom SLCD recovery file on your PC:
Goto File>Custom Recovery and point it to the recovery image that you downloaded in step 2.
5. Restart your phone, it will take a few minutes because you did a wipe, just wait it will load (up to 5 minutes). As soon as the welcome screen loads plug your phone in to the PC and Unrevoked should do it's thing. If Unrevoked doesn't start, then hit the Menu button go to Settings --> Applications --> Development and enable USB debugging.
6. The phone will restart a couple of times, and will look like it's hanging on the HTC screen but it's not! If the HTC screen is present for more than 5 minutes pull your battery and start again ( I had to do this a couple times myself). If Unrevoked pauses half way through its process, it could be because for some reason you don't have the proper drivers installed. You can load them as Unrevoked does the root process, while the phone is rebooting if Unrevoked pauses and Windows prompts you for a driver point it to the C:\android\tools directory and it will load the drivers and Unrevoked will continue its root process.
7. When Unrevoked is finished you will be left at the recovery screen,
8. *** VERY IMPORTANT*** Before restarting do a "wipe cache partition", "factory reset". And now would be a good time for a Nandroid Backup
9. Now reboot, and Android should load. Check for Superuser Permissions app, if you see it you're good if not restart from step 3.
10. Shutdown and load HBOOT, wait a few seconds for SD card (you'll see something try to load quickly), then load recovery again, it should load everytime without issue now.
It may take a few tries, but just follow these steps and it will work.
Steps for flashing radio, and custom ROM:
1. Grab a custom ROM from the forum, I used OpenDesire: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712615
OpenDesire comes with a nice reboot to Recovery feature built in.
2. Once zip is download, copy it to your SD card
3. Get the updated radio needed from here: http://www.mightyrom.com/mrx/MRX/Bravo/Radio/Signed/32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2.zip
4. Reboot into recovery by powering on the device while holding the Power button down and pushing Volume down at the same time. Select Recovery with the Volume rocker and then click the power button to launch it.
5. Select "install zip from SD card" using the trackpad and select the radio zip that you download in step 3.
6. Let it do its thing (could take up to 10 mins to finish), use the back button to get to main menu and select "reboot system now" with the trackpad. If your phone hangs after rebooting wait at least 10 minutes before pulling the battery, it could be finishing the radio update.
7. Once rebooted check that the new radio is good by loading HBOOT (you should know how to do this by now) and at the top it will show you're radio version.
8. Load recovery again and select "wipe cache partition", "factory reset" (for the 3rd and final time). Then select "install zip from SD card" using the trackpad and select the ROM zip that you download in step 1.
9. The new ROM is now installed, restart the phone and wait up to 20 minutes (it shouldn't take that long) for the new ROM to load, DO NOT PULL YOUR BATTERY UNTIL AT LEAST 20 MINUTES HAVE PASSED.
You should now have your phone rooted, new radio installed, and a new custom ROM loaded.
Sorry for such a long post, but I found all these steps necessary to get the end result.
If I have missed anything or if anyone has comments / corrections post them here and I will try to keep the tutorial updated and easy to use as possible.

Couple of things.
USB debugging is under development in Apps. (not a big deal)
Those unrevoked drivers worked great for me, I followed the instructions in the HTML doc that came with the zip. I have heard there are extra drivers needed for windows 7, and you have to be sure your running unrevoked as an admin.
Once I was rooted, I used RomManager to get the newest clockwork and flashed it. I used rom manager to flash the rom, HBoot to flash the radio, and did it backwards. Seems to not make a difference.

Can you elaborate on this? I'm assuming Clockwork recovery is stored on the SD card?

//////////////Yes there is a folder called clockwork mod, in there were my nandroid backups. I copied everything on the SD back and Clockwork booted, so I can't say for sure, but I'd assume all you need is the clockwork folder. There are other folders that look like system folders that may also be important./////////////

I believe this is misinformation.. only reason because I was having that endless HTC frozen screen so I formated my SD card, the FAT32 partition and the EXT3 partition in windows using Paragon Partition Manager, finally got back into recovery, wiped everything from cache to davlik cache as well.. then installed my rom.
If Clockwork was stored on the SD card.. I believe it wouldn't have booted.. got a little confused there. However, the Nandroid backups are stored on the SD card.. that I know for sure!

These devices make no sense to me. Maybe I didn't help anything with the copy and just trying to boot a few times would work. I would expect things to work or not work, but they work intermittently some times. Certainly increases the confusion/frustration levels.
Wouldnt be using the latest radio and using "recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-bravo.img" instead of the old one be better?

What is EXT3 partition ?
I would like to get more details about the sdcard ? I make my backup with nandroid and after I format the sdcard....so if I want restore the back up from Nandroid, it will not be there....sorry for the noob questions

Ext3 partition is for A2SD, I never touched my SD Card until I was rooted, updated radio, and loaded a custom ROM. I can't say whether or not the SD card plays a role in freezing during boot to recovery or not? But like I said I never partitioned my SD until after everything was done.....

Hey there hope this is the right place for this ... Just want to report something that has happened. I am currently unable to use the G tablet stock vanilla TnT... any clue as to why this would happen? I dont really use it anyway however should this be resolved? and would it affect the tablet in the long run if not addressed? I use Launcher pro and the tablet forces itself to that when "home" force closes. I would like to try the TnT lite however am not confident about it.
Do i need to root the device before i hold the power button and vol +? to flash the new rom ( it bugs me that this is all i have to do to put in a custom rom. it seems to easy, unless it is that easy)
Will i lose all the files, PDF's, and documents that i have on it once i flash the new rom ?
As you can see im a noob to Android. Thanks for advice and guidance in advanced and patients.
Follow the instructions in the alternate gtab firmware post. It worked great for me. I would suggest installing cwm so you can back up your existing firmware.
My update would force close during download on the stock firmware. I finally got it to work by minimizing the pop up that displayed the progress. For some reason the screen would crash the download.
Your files should be there but you will lose all user settings and installed apps when you do the factory reset.
This is a common issue with stock, and TnT Lite. The user data seems to be very unstable once you upgrade to different firmware.
The "easiest" thing to do is just wipe the user data. However, if there is certain data you need to keep, I would recommend the excellent Titanium Backup. The only caveat is that the device has to be rooted, to use it.

Tntlite is that easy I was surprised. Too since rooting my HTC hero a year and a half ago was so much more hands on

This is where all hell broke loose ....the file i wanted never downloaded.... then the pic gallery forced closed then the launcher forced closed and had to shut down now now its in bootloop....I attempted to power and vol + but nothing happened in fact got a triangle !.... what is needed now.....
LOL at the entire situation this was my fear..... please if someone with extreme patients can list or point to a noob friendly thread on what i need to do

I had a similar problem twice today (installed TnT Lite 2.02 and ran into boot loops). Here's how I recovered. Results may vary, so use at your own risk:
1. Download the vanilla restore from http://forum.tegratab.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=16 (this is just to get the recovery\console file unless you want to manually create it).
2. Download the updated stock TnT from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9362168&postcount=35
3. Extract the "recovery" folder from gtab_full_vanilla_system_2010_11_09.zip downloaded in step 1.
4. In the recovery folder there is a file called "command" with no extension. Open this file with a text editor (eg. notepad) and edit the line so "SDCARD" says "SDCARD2" instead. Save it and ensure you do not add any extension. It should look like this:
--update_package=SDCARD2:/update.zip
5. Rename the "update-smb_a1002-2967-user.zip" from step 2 to "update.zip".
6. Copy the entire recovery folder with the edited "command" file from step 4 and the "update.zip" from step 5 to the root of your MicroSD card. It's important that the contents on the root of your MicroSD ends up with:
/update.zip
/recovery/command
7. Put the MicroSD in your gTablet.
8. Power on while holding the Volume Up button until you see a message regarding recovery.
9. You should see a graphic showing package box with a progress bar after a short time.
10. Wait until it completes and the unit will restart.
11. If all goes well, you should be back to stock TnT with the last OTA update.
If you are wondering why I just didn't use the gtab_full_vanilla_system_2010_11_09.zip downloaded in step 1, it's because it didn't help me. I initially used the same general method above with the gtab_full_vanilla_system_2010_11_09.zip downloaded in step 1, but my gTablet still continued to boot loop. After a fair amount of panicking and looking over all of the threads here, I found that gtab_full_vanilla_system_2010_11_09.zip added ClockWork Recovery so I was able to use this to copy over the update-smb_a1002-2967-user.zip to my internal SD, install it, and get my gTablet working again. When the problem happened the second time, I used the method above and it worked for me.

You mind if I steal these directions? It's more detailed than the one I wrote up on my TnT Lite post. I'd like to post it there (specifically the command file, as some people have issues understanding the "SDCARD2" change).

Same here Roebeet thanks for your work...dcomm222 thanks again... So I tried to only install the TnTlite 2.0 from the microsd card, it read it, looked to have loaded it, and it went right into the bootloop again.... I really want TnT lite ......
so now i am going to try your method... fingers crossed

I had no luck trying to re-flash to 2.0X once I got in the boot loop - I couldn't get past it no matter what until I went back to stock. Once I was back at stock I could re-flash to 2.0X from the internal SD. I'm still trying to figure out what's getting me in the boot loop - everything seems to work great for a while.

GOT IT BACK!!!! geez man I was full on panic mode
have you flashed back to TnT lite back yet and how long does it last? Damn i am so tempted to go back im thinking it has something to do with what we attempted to load on the tablet ... i dont know just looking for a reason to Flash ....can this constant recovery flash do any damage to the tablet? I would like to try other Roms but dont want to mess my tablet up..
BTW i got this EUL when it rebooted especially sections 4.1 and 4.2 wtf!!! sorry about that but that is how i felt

If I remember correctly, the stock firmware with the OTA update will prompt you to accept a license and prompt to set the time, etc....
I just flashed the TnT 2.02 again. So far it seems OK, however it did the first 2 times I did it as well. I followed all of the instructions at "forum.androidcentral.com/showthread.php?p=442691#post442691" except I substituted using roeboot's TnT. Once I did it I had everything working (flash, market, etc...). Both times the boot loop happened when I tried to install or uninstall something, and both times were after a few hours of use. I tried a third time and almost instantly got into a boot loop, but I think I got ahead of myself in that try and did some things out of order. The good thing is that I was able to recover each time.
Out of curiosity, did your tablet come with a gray or green cloth to clean the screen? The reason I ask is that I thought I had seen somewhere that this might be an indication of a difference in gTablets.
The EULA shows up with a new stock firmware - and yeah 4.1 / 4.2 kinda bugged me too. I never selected "I Agree" - fark that.
As for the boot loops, it seems that we still can't pin it down - maybe it's just random, I don't know.

I was stuck after bootlooping using Cyanmod, then flashing NVflash still didnt fix the issue, this fix did it for me. Thanks for getting me back up & running. I will give another shot at using cyanmod now that I have all the files needed to get me back.
BTW< I have a green cloth. What does that mean?

My tab came with a grey cloth... funny thing though I got mine on the second wave of shipments to sears... I NEVER had any issues with the time i just set it and it kept the time... I remembered that when these first came out that was a problem... i thought mine was diff because i never had any issues with time reseting itself... anyway Thanks again dude for your help hope i could play this forward to someone more noobier than me

I now have clockwork recovery installed... How do i copy the update.zip from external microsd to internal microsd... mounting sd-ext gives an error..
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
(No such file or directory)

a "me too" reboot problem
I was able to install TNT Lite 2.0, then 2.11. I got Clockwork Recovery installed as well.
The market would start, but if I did a search for obvious things like "Kindle", the market would give an error that it didn't exist in the market. Thinking it was the error situation described here:

I applied those instructions, and rebooted.
Upon reboot, it ended up in a continual reboot loop.
Trying to do the start with volume+power, it brings up Clockwork Recovery, and when told to wipe data/factory reset, it stays in the reboot loop. When told to apply sdcard's update.zip, it looks only at the one on the internal sdcard, which is for CWR, and goes back into the loop.
At that point I setup a microSD with the information from this post:

including changing the line from sdcard to sdcard2. Again it doesn't recognize that the internal sdcard2 is plugged in, and attempts to mount it with CWR (mount /sd-ext) yields the error:

So, unfortunately I'm at an impasse, like the previous poster. I just bought the tablet a couple of days ago, so I'm far from expert at tweaking it into working.
Any suggestions on what to do, are greatly appreciated.
PS - Bought the gtablet from Office Depot, and received a green cloth.
Boot into clockwork recovery and go to advanced and format SD, use the 2gb and 512mb I believe, then flash TNT or another rom. That fixed my boot loop.
So got my g tablet for christmas and as you have known i've been following this forum for a few weeks getting myself ready for this tablet it updated to the newest UI and now i cant seem to get clockwork installed on it, I tried even rooting it first with the z4root and still having issues with loading clockwork on it, i downloaded version that was recommended in the forum 8 and than extracted the files to the root of the sd card and now when i power it down and back up and press the power and the volume up button it goes to the typical box with the arrow in it coming out and than just boots up never loads up clockwork on the device.
the other issue im having is getting the market going the market fix is supposed to be to stop the market from running and the google services but when i go to settings and applications theres no manage application section in the new update to 3889 or whatever the version is, right now im running launcher pro so i got the vanilla android look just need the market working and to get the tnt lite or the vegan installed on it and obviously cant without clockwork, i've tried searching today and remember all the threads i've read before and for some reason i still cant seem to figure out what the issue is. i thought it would be as easy as rooting my droid but i guess i was wrong.
thanks for any advice you can offer up, other than not getting what i want to load on it so far its pretty damn good other than missing the market other than this gmarket that comes with it and not having a custom rom running yet.

To get clockwork working I put it my micro SD card. There's a thread in the dev section for installing clockwork, and an old version of tnt lite. I followed those and they worked perfectly.
If you are still having problems getting CWM to install, in your menu, security, do a factory reset then try reinstalling CWM. I have had to do this when I can't get it to install, then for some reason it installs like it should.

I am having a hard time with my tablet (I think its because I lack computer skills) well lets start off with I installed the newest version on clockworkmod recovery I was told it was working with vegan beta 4 and should work with the new roms so I flashed it. Well a little while later I saw that vegan 5 was out so I decided to clean up the internal sdcard before I installed only because I had just about every TnT lite, Vegan, and my stock rom backup in clockwork recovery all of which I haven't used much since the latest roms continue to be better than the last. So i removed the old clockworkmod file on intrernal sdcard also the recovery folder. I only did this because I thought I had a working recovery on the sdcard2. So I tried to flash vegan beta 5 as an update.zip after wiping data/cache. Then I got the magic value mismatch error so I tried the nvflash since I'm not that great with Linux I couldn't get pass open command to folder where the extracted files are and run ./ I can't remember the rest. My tablet was in apx because I confirmed by opening a terminal and typed lsusb and pressed enter I could see the the tablet. Well since I couldn't do it I took a break. When I came back to the tablet tried to go back into apx and tried to confirm but I couldn't see tablet so I decided to take out the sdcard2 and try to boot into clockworkmod recovery and by my surprise it booted into bekit.8 So I tried to restore tried update.zip also tried install from sdcard all fails to find file. So now I'm stuck tablet will go into clockwork but no files to use, and will go into apx but can't see in Linux having a really hard time first time I have had an issue that I couldn't get fixed with a little help from the community now I need a lot of help thanks in advance
edit:dont really know what happened but i can get into apx now but ./nvflash:command not found it was weird with sdcard2 in i could not consistently boot into clockwork recovery but if i took it out i could also i would get the magic value mismatch error if i tried to boot up regular (power button)

edit2:first i am very new to flashing using nvflash on linux ubuntu. i tried to do every thing the traditional way and kept getting a command error. this is what i ultimately did. i used roebeet's nvflash FULLrestore, using bekit's original image (instructions) and got the "nvflash_linux_2010110500.tar.gz" and the "nvflash_gtablet_2010110500.zip"
1st create a file in your "downloads" folder named "nvflash"
2nd downloaded "nvflash_linux_2010.tar.gz"
3rd moved "nvflash_linux_2010110500.tar.gz" into the nvflash folder you created
4th right clicked on "nvflash_linux_2010.tar.gz" folder and extracted files
5th moved "nvflash_linux_2010110500.tar.gz" back into downloads folder
6th now in the folder you created called "nvflash" there is a folder called "nvflash_linux_2010110500" open it you should see 2 folders "nvflash" and "nvflash_gtablet.sh" hold shift and left click on both to highlight then drag to the "nvflash" folder you created
7th now in the "nvflash" folder you created ther are 3 folders "nvflash", "nvflash_gtablet.sh", "nvflash_linux_2010110500" i grabbed "nvflash_linux_2010110500" and put it back into downloads
8th now i double click "nvflash_gtablet_2010110500.zip" it opens there is a folder "nvflash_gtablet" right click on it and select extract
9th now open "nvflash_gtablet" you should see 14 files "bootloader.bin", "gtablet.bct", "gtablet.cfg", "part10.img", "part2.img", "part3.img", "part4.img", "part5.img", "part6.img", "part7.img", "part8.img", "part9.img", "README.txt", "system.img". Left click on the first file then hold shift and down arrow until all are highlighted then drag all 14 highlighted files into the "nvflash" folder you created
10th now make sure that you have all 16 items in the "nvflash" folder you created
11th make sure g tablet is off
12th plug usb cable into g tablet and the other end into computer
13th press power button and volume - at same time you should see the screen turn on then quickly turn off
14th open terminal type in lsusb
15th press enter
16th you should see Nvidia device says "7820" - that's APX mode. (thanks roebeet) after you see this close terminal
17th open the nvflash folder you created
18th now double click "nvflash_gtablet.sh" folder you should get 4 options "run in terminal", "display", "cancel", and "run" click on "run in terminal"
19th let it run and after your tablet reboots, safely remove nvidia tegra 2 device from pc.
I don't take any credit for this I'm just learning linux and i think this will help people like me. roebeet, gojimi,rothnic and bekit are the guys that have put in the work and deserve all the credit. I hope this helps a few people out there.
If you can get into clockwork and the only problem you have is that you dont have a rom to flash, you can mount the sd card from the cwm menu and then put a rom there to flash. Not sure if thats your only problem tho

yeah i tried that installed clckworkmod.8 and vegan beta 5 as update.zip and it fails to locate files tried changing recovery to sdcard2 and still no luck but thanks
Okay, I have a G Tablet running cyogenmod 7.1.0 and wanted to move to the 7.2.0 RC, but when I do the Vol+ boot, it hangs on the dreaded white screen with the image loading...etc which I know means I don't have clockworkmod installed properly.
So I can reboot inton cyogen 7.1 no problem, and have downloaded the cwmod internal files, but THEY WON'T LET ME install them to the root directory...only the /MNT/SDCARD folder...I am pretty sure I need them in the base / folder, but nothing I do will let me move them or copy them...message will say "can't copy folder" or "can't copy file"..I have tried downloading various file manager programs but nothing will let me move stuff into the root directory...
Also, when I used ROM Manager and tell it to flash clockworkmod at the top, it reboots but nothing ever happens...just reboots back to cyogenmod 7.1
Have I done something really stupid or really easily fixed?

First, ROM Manager on the gTab is a BIG no no. Remove it before it does BAD things to it.
Second, when copying roms from your PC to your gTab you will be copying them to /sdcard (same as /mnt/sdcard)) and installing them from there.
Third, make sure you are downloading & installing the correct version of CWM for the bootloader you are on (.8 for bootloader 1.1 & 3.0.2.8 for bootloader 1.2). If you install the wrong version it will stop at the birds when you try to boot to CWM.
