Hey there hope this is the right place for this ... Just want to report something that has happened. I am currently unable to use the G tablet stock vanilla TnT... any clue as to why this would happen? I dont really use it anyway however should this be resolved? and would it affect the tablet in the long run if not addressed? I use Launcher pro and the tablet forces itself to that when "home" force closes. I would like to try the TnT lite however am not confident about it.
Do i need to root the device before i hold the power button and vol +? to flash the new rom ( it bugs me that this is all i have to do to put in a custom rom. it seems to easy, unless it is that easy)
Will i lose all the files, PDF's, and documents that i have on it once i flash the new rom ?
As you can see im a noob to Android. Thanks for advice and guidance in advanced and patients.
Follow the instructions in the alternate gtab firmware post. It worked great for me. I would suggest installing cwm so you can back up your existing firmware.
My update would force close during download on the stock firmware. I finally got it to work by minimizing the pop up that displayed the progress. For some reason the screen would crash the download.
Your files should be there but you will lose all user settings and installed apps when you do the factory reset.
This is a common issue with stock, and TnT Lite. The user data seems to be very unstable once you upgrade to different firmware.
The "easiest" thing to do is just wipe the user data. However, if there is certain data you need to keep, I would recommend the excellent Titanium Backup. The only caveat is that the device has to be rooted, to use it.

Tntlite is that easy I was surprised. Too since rooting my HTC hero a year and a half ago was so much more hands on

This is where all hell broke loose ....the file i wanted never downloaded.... then the pic gallery forced closed then the launcher forced closed and had to shut down now now its in bootloop....I attempted to power and vol + but nothing happened in fact got a triangle !.... what is needed now.....
LOL at the entire situation this was my fear..... please if someone with extreme patients can list or point to a noob friendly thread on what i need to do
i have a microSD card can that be used read somewhere that i may need that.....

I had a similar problem twice today (installed TnT Lite 2.02 and ran into boot loops). Here's how I recovered. Results may vary, so use at your own risk:
1. Download the vanilla restore from http://forum.tegratab.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=16 (this is just to get the recovery\console file unless you want to manually create it).
2. Download the updated stock TnT from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9362168&postcount=35
3. Extract the "recovery" folder from gtab_full_vanilla_system_2010_11_09.zip downloaded in step 1.
4. In the recovery folder there is a file called "command" with no extension. Open this file with a text editor (eg. notepad) and edit the line so "SDCARD" says "SDCARD2" instead. Save it and ensure you do not add any extension. It should look like this:
--update_package=SDCARD2:/update.zip
5. Rename the "update-smb_a1002-2967-user.zip" from step 2 to "update.zip".
6. Copy the entire recovery folder with the edited "command" file from step 4 and the "update.zip" from step 5 to the root of your MicroSD card. It's important that the contents on the root of your MicroSD ends up with:
/update.zip
/recovery/command
7. Put the MicroSD in your gTablet.
8. Power on while holding the Volume Up button until you see a message regarding recovery.
9. You should see a graphic showing package box with a progress bar after a short time.
10. Wait until it completes and the unit will restart.
11. If all goes well, you should be back to stock TnT with the last OTA update.
If you are wondering why I just didn't use the gtab_full_vanilla_system_2010_11_09.zip downloaded in step 1, it's because it didn't help me. I initially used the same general method above with the gtab_full_vanilla_system_2010_11_09.zip downloaded in step 1, but my gTablet still continued to boot loop. After a fair amount of panicking and looking over all of the threads here, I found that gtab_full_vanilla_system_2010_11_09.zip added ClockWork Recovery so I was able to use this to copy over the update-smb_a1002-2967-user.zip to my internal SD, install it, and get my gTablet working again. When the problem happened the second time, I used the method above and it worked for me.

You mind if I steal these directions? It's more detailed than the one I wrote up on my TnT Lite post. I'd like to post it there (specifically the command file, as some people have issues understanding the "SDCARD2" change).

Same here Roebeet thanks for your work...dcomm222 thanks again... So I tried to only install the TnTlite 2.0 from the microsd card, it read it, looked to have loaded it, and it went right into the bootloop again.... I really want TnT lite ......
so now i am going to try your method... fingers crossed

I had no luck trying to re-flash to 2.0X once I got in the boot loop - I couldn't get past it no matter what until I went back to stock. Once I was back at stock I could re-flash to 2.0X from the internal SD. I'm still trying to figure out what's getting me in the boot loop - everything seems to work great for a while.

GOT IT BACK!!!! geez man I was full on panic mode
have you flashed back to TnT lite back yet and how long does it last? Damn i am so tempted to go back im thinking it has something to do with what we attempted to load on the tablet ... i dont know just looking for a reason to Flash ....can this constant recovery flash do any damage to the tablet? I would like to try other Roms but dont want to mess my tablet up..
BTW i got this EUL when it rebooted especially sections 4.1 and 4.2 wtf!!! sorry about that but that is how i felt

If I remember correctly, the stock firmware with the OTA update will prompt you to accept a license and prompt to set the time, etc....
I just flashed the TnT 2.02 again. So far it seems OK, however it did the first 2 times I did it as well. I followed all of the instructions at "forum.androidcentral.com/showthread.php?p=442691#post442691" except I substituted using roeboot's TnT. Once I did it I had everything working (flash, market, etc...). Both times the boot loop happened when I tried to install or uninstall something, and both times were after a few hours of use. I tried a third time and almost instantly got into a boot loop, but I think I got ahead of myself in that try and did some things out of order. The good thing is that I was able to recover each time.
Out of curiosity, did your tablet come with a gray or green cloth to clean the screen? The reason I ask is that I thought I had seen somewhere that this might be an indication of a difference in gTablets.
The EULA shows up with a new stock firmware - and yeah 4.1 / 4.2 kinda bugged me too. I never selected "I Agree" - fark that.
As for the boot loops, it seems that we still can't pin it down - maybe it's just random, I don't know.

I was stuck after bootlooping using Cyanmod, then flashing NVflash still didnt fix the issue, this fix did it for me. Thanks for getting me back up & running. I will give another shot at using cyanmod now that I have all the files needed to get me back.
BTW< I have a green cloth. What does that mean?

My tab came with a grey cloth... funny thing though I got mine on the second wave of shipments to sears... I NEVER had any issues with the time i just set it and it kept the time... I remembered that when these first came out that was a problem... i thought mine was diff because i never had any issues with time reseting itself... anyway Thanks again dude for your help hope i could play this forward to someone more noobier than me

I now have clockwork recovery installed... How do i copy the update.zip from external microsd to internal microsd... mounting sd-ext gives an error..
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
(No such file or directory)
Error mounting SDEXT:!
Frustration levels are high with this device!!

a "me too" reboot problem
I was able to install TNT Lite 2.0, then 2.11. I got Clockwork Recovery installed as well.
The market would start, but if I did a search for obvious things like "Kindle", the market would give an error that it didn't exist in the market. Thinking it was the error situation described here:

I applied those instructions, and rebooted.
Upon reboot, it ended up in a continual reboot loop.
Trying to do the start with volume+power, it brings up Clockwork Recovery, and when told to wipe data/factory reset, it stays in the reboot loop. When told to apply sdcard's update.zip, it looks only at the one on the internal sdcard, which is for CWR, and goes back into the loop.
At that point I setup a microSD with the information from this post:

including changing the line from sdcard to sdcard2. Again it doesn't recognize that the internal sdcard2 is plugged in, and attempts to mount it with CWR (mount /sd-ext) yields the error:

So, unfortunately I'm at an impasse, like the previous poster. I just bought the tablet a couple of days ago, so I'm far from expert at tweaking it into working.
Any suggestions on what to do, are greatly appreciated.
PS - Bought the gtablet from Office Depot, and received a green cloth.
Boot into clockwork recovery and go to advanced and format SD, use the 2gb and 512mb I believe, then flash TNT or another rom. That fixed my boot loop.
First let me say thanks to all of you, I purchased my wife what was out of the box a useless machine. Then before I had an sd card out of desperation I used the tnt lite and flashed off onboard storage. all went fine.
Today I see there has been a few updates so I installed a microsd (16gb ) and attempted to do it correctly using the CW mod install guide. I mounted the card and used Es FE to extract the cwmod to root /sdcard folder then I powered down and did the volume +/power. I seen the prompts it looked like it went through. then i booted back into os and used esfe to delete them out of root booted down and it shows the prompts then a yellow exclamation and just goes back into OS no matter what I have tried. I tried several times.
I dont want to mod the unit anymore without the recommended recovery methods could someone guide me a bit why I cant get cwmod to load?

"command" must have this line in it

CHECK THE COMMAND FILE. If you are booting with Power/Vol+ and its not going to the clockwork menu then clockwork is not installed. Installing any Viewsonic updates will erase cwm recovery

I had the same scenario and it was due to the editor I was uing to make the recover/command file. Just delete what is in the recover/command folder, and unzip the file in the following link, and copy the file in the command folder to the SD. It WILL work with the next effort of install with the vol+ and power button function (sys recovery?) I got it to work, thanks to Robeet's Explanation....
The File is what I extracted from the original plain vanilla file that Robeet had referenced to on this forum. I only took the recovery/command part of the package.

So got my g tablet for christmas and as you have known i've been following this forum for a few weeks getting myself ready for this tablet it updated to the newest UI and now i cant seem to get clockwork installed on it, I tried even rooting it first with the z4root and still having issues with loading clockwork on it, i downloaded version that was recommended in the forum 8 and than extracted the files to the root of the sd card and now when i power it down and back up and press the power and the volume up button it goes to the typical box with the arrow in it coming out and than just boots up never loads up clockwork on the device.
the other issue im having is getting the market going the market fix is supposed to be to stop the market from running and the google services but when i go to settings and applications theres no manage application section in the new update to 3889 or whatever the version is, right now im running launcher pro so i got the vanilla android look just need the market working and to get the tnt lite or the vegan installed on it and obviously cant without clockwork, i've tried searching today and remember all the threads i've read before and for some reason i still cant seem to figure out what the issue is. i thought it would be as easy as rooting my droid but i guess i was wrong.
thanks for any advice you can offer up, other than not getting what i want to load on it so far its pretty damn good other than missing the market other than this gmarket that comes with it and not having a custom rom running yet.

To get clockwork working I put it my micro SD card. There's a thread in the dev section for installing clockwork, and an old version of tnt lite. I followed those and they worked perfectly.
If you are still having problems getting CWM to install, in your menu, security, do a factory reset then try reinstalling CWM. I have had to do this when I can't get it to install, then for some reason it installs like it should.

Can you give us more info? Were you rooted? Did you screw up flashing a rom or something? A few weeks ago I had to unroot my TF so I could RMA it and I found that a lot of the posts on here were either outdated or linked to an outside source, which was outdated.
When I got my TF back I decided to re-root it and it was a lot more painful than when I first did it about a month earlier, IDK if I had my images swapped and I was flashing the wrong files or what but it took freaking forever.
I'll upload a stock 3.2 image for you that has to be flashed with nvflash and it will unbrick your tablet. If you want to be rooted use Roach's nvflashable version of Prime instead and that should also fix your TF.
i have a b60 model i was not rooted i tried but failed because i couldnt get superuser to work. i was trying to flash back to stock because i could not get any updates so i figured if i go back to a clean 3.2 i would be ok. then i tried putting it back to stock using one of the post here. then when i tried everything went smooth but then i tried turning my tf101 on and it would not turn on. could you help me fix this? ill be very grateful to you give you a thanks and when i get a job donate to you if we get this working. thank you

Installing ADB
1. Under the Choose packages to install dialog in the Android SDK choose Android SDK Platform Tools (you don't need all the other crap) and hit install.
2. Right click on My Computer and then select Properties and then Advanced System Settings, then click Environmental Variables and add the location of the folder that contains ADB to the PATH variable in the second pane entitled System Variables (ex: [path that the main folder is in]\android-sdk_r12-windows\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools)
3. Reboot.
4. You should now be able to access ADB via the command prompt (run --> cmd) simply by typing adb
Flashing Back to Stock 3.2
1. Download it from here and extract the archive with winrar, replace the nvflash linux binary with the windows equivalent, open up download.sh and remove the ./ from the beginning of nvflash and also the first line of the file
2. Change the file extension of download.sh to download.bat
3. Right click it and click run as administrator and then let it do it's work and you should be on a fresh install of Honeycomb 3.2 in no time!
Righto. Before we go any further, jsut to say I am a relatively experienced rooter of Android handsets. Not tabs, granted, but handsets. Last night I rooted my TF and flashed Megatron and recommended kernel, no problem. I've had no problem taking nandroid backups or restoring as I've done that several times today, all with expected results.
Then I opened ROM Manager and allowed the app to update, I guess updating CWM too.
I then fiddled with SetCPU overclocking the CPU. This caused the tab to stutter a bit. Then freeze. Anyway, I hard rebooted and went into recovery to try and flash the backup I took about an hour ago. Now, CWM looks different (I guess this is where ROM Manager updated). I flashed the backup which seemed to go ok, but then when the TF rebooted I got an Android message saying that encryption hadn't worked properly, and that I would need to do a full (factory) reset. I hit ok and let it do it's think. The TF rebooted, but went direct into Recovery.
I tried wiping everything using Factory Reset, and wiping Dalvik, etc, but every time I tried I got a message saying "E: Can't mount /sdcard/" and then it reverted back to the main menu structure. Even when I choose "Install zip from sdcard" > "choose zip from sdcard" I just get a message up saying "E: Can't mount /sdcard/" and that's all she wrote. I think a) ROM Manager may have caused this and b) it's royally wrecked.
I did find teh following in a TF guide regarding cold booting:

11. Now do a Cold Boot (aka Hard Reset). This cleans system caches, but does not delete any user data.
Unplug the power cord and shut the unit off. Press and hold the VOL DOWN and then POWER button at the same time for at least 10-12 seconds until after the start-up screen appears and is joined by some small print at the top of the screen, then let them both go. If the TF booted the way it always does, you have not accomplished the task, try again until you have seen the 2 icons in the screen.
After a few seconds you should see a couple of icons in the middle of the screen called "Wipe Data" and "Android". The right "Android" will have a green highlight fading in and out. Wait a few more seconds until the term "Cold Booting Linux" appears in the list near the top of the screens and let it reboot. If you own a keyboard dock be sure you do this with the dock connected.
This process applies to all TF models, however, if your Prime or tf300 is locked up, there is a reset available using the hole just below the microSD slot, this is NOT the same as a hard reset.
12. Finally, restore your photos, docs etc & reinstall your apps from the backups, one group at a time & cold boot between each group that you restore. (Unless you are resetting because of system instability. In which case, read the next section, first.)

I tried doing this but the TF froze at the point where the unit says "Cold-booting Linux". I left it for a good 30 minutes but no joy...
The other issue I have is that even when I attach my TF to my PC the PC doesn't recignise the unit. It knows I'm trying to attach something but it doesn't know what. Therefore I don't think I can flash anything like a new CWM version or kernel if the PC doesn't know where or what to flash to...?
I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts on this one...

"Then I opened ROM Manager and allowed the app to update, I guess updating CWM too." - Never use ROM manager on the TF, it causes extensive problems. There is a warning thread about this in General.
You'll want to try running Roach2010's fix, either via my PERI tool (in my sig) or by manually typing the commands.
Lifesaver! One problem - when I plug my TF into my PC using the USB cable it doesn't recognise it. Won't this be a problem?

1. Connect cable to computer and turn device on while holding down Volume Up. Screen will stay off, but USB will come on.
2. Find “APX” device in Device manager and update driver, then point it at usbpcdriver directory from the zip.

Open the Start Menu, type 'cmd' and hit enter, then type:
pnputil -a C:\path\to\driver folder\NvidiaUsb.inf file
exit
Then plug in the TF in APX mode and windows will find drivers automatically
Or you right click computer and hit 'Manage' and then hit 'Device Manager', find the ? entry that says APX and right click and hit 'update driver', then navigate to the folder.

(Before each file are 2 letters, (US, WW, CN, TW...) pick the one that is your Region. I'm assuming you need WW, which stands for World Wide, but if you reside in Taiwan take TW, China take CN and America take US.

Extract it, and copy the Contents of the folder into the Unbrick .zip folder's contents main folder, Overwrite any files that conflict.
Then you should be able to run Reflash_Sbkv#.bat to unbrick your TF in APX mode that is connected, try Sbkv2 first, then if you get access denied try Sbkv1.
