i realize that there are a few threads on here about the gTab having to be powered on after it goes to sleep.
mine on stock and vegan will not resume from sleep ever after about 5 minutes.
is everyone having this issue? i would really like to hear from people and hope that most people do not have this problem.
if i see that it seems to be rare then i am going to get a replacement for mine while i still can from Office Depot.
please respond if you do or do not have this issue and what OS you are running on it.
thanks for the help.
I have two devices, both running the same VEGAn b4 build. One is a first batch from early November (SEARS), the other is a newer device from early December (also SEARS). They are both used.
The older device has a tendency to shutdown or freeze when idle for a long period. I have to hold down the power button for a few seconds and it will power up. The newer device never seem to have this problem - it actually goes to sleep and stays asleep. But, if I manually put the device to sleep, it's OK. I have not been able to figure this out yet, but perhaps the insides are a little different.
i am going to do the following test to see when it does not wake up. i am currently running latest updated stock only because i was trying to eliminate it being a vegan or TNT problem.
for the test i am going to wait 15 minutes or more to try and wake it up with the following:
1. letting it fall asleep by itself which i have set on 10 minutes.
2. power button it to sleep.
3. tap power and hit the sleep in power options widget.
thanks for the reply and some other user results would be great.
UPDATE!!!
well i didnt even have to wait that long. my gTab failed to wake up already from all 3 different ways of putting it to sleep.
i am going to exchange it. though not a deal breaker i wouldnt mind seeing if a new one might work right.
I had similar sleep/shut down issues with the original stock ROM but since the 3053 update, no problems sleeping...
Well after trying everything possible I exchanged it and works perfectly now: )

I picked up a Captivate and used SuperRooter, got Clockwork on there, and put on some apps. What's odd is that if the phone sits for a while and I try to wake it up, the screen doesn't turn on - even after waiting like 3 minutes. Besides flashing back to stock, is there anything I can do to see what might be causing this? Would a logcat via ADB help? When I set it down and use it every few mins, it's fine. It's just doing the weird not waking up thing when it sits for a while.
I've had mine since aug. 2nd....this just started happening to mine over the past few days, where it'll shut off while sleeping. Its only done it 2 or 3 times tho. Mine isn't rooted.
Seems this is happening to a bunch of people, some have had to remove the battery to get it back on....i haven't had to do this yet. (knock on wood)
Is there a way to disable a long press of the Power button while the phone is locked? I'm wondering if that is part of the problem.
Are you using SetCPU? The ondemand CPU governor is known to cause this problem.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Setcpu was causing my vibrant to do the same thing, deleted it and everything is fine
If SetCPU is an app, i haven't installed that one....
Removed it and it is still doing it. If the phone is plugged into anything (weither stay awake is on or not) it seems fine but when it is unplugged, it shuts off every few mins. My girl has this phone for the week and I won't see her til the weekend but I was reading on Android Forums and it seems alot of people are having this issue. I will flash back to stock and see if it helps, but I have a feeling it won't help.
i think its the root i mean i it did taht after i rooted i just got my replacement seeing if itll act up if not ill keep it if it does im jumping ship to buy a international galaxy s
Does your phone smoke a lot of pot?
I'm actually wondering if it doesn't have something to do with power handling with a full battery. I had to swap mine out because any time it was charged 100%, if it slept it turned off. After a few restarts or me playing with it enough to drop it below a completely full charge it was fine. I don't know, but if this new one does it I will just return it and look for something else :_(
well ricparr and anyone else i would just return your model saying its defective and get a replacement tahts what i did
Hi everyone, just got the tablet today and set it up at work, played with it for bit and everthing was working fine.
Got home about 2 hours ago and now when I wake it from Sleep, the touch screen is not responding at all. Have tried everything, power is 98%, plugged into a PC, did the hard reboot, even wiping the data to start setup again. But all to no avail.
The screen isn't responding at all. Its very frustrating as I want to play with it some more!!!
Hope someone has experienced this and can help.
had the same issue once...i turned it off and left it for about 5min...turned it on and the screen works again...
this hasn't occured since then..probably just a system glitch..
Happened to me once, reset the device and it worked. Now it happened again and its been unusable for a day. If it doesn't work tonight, the $hit is going to hit the fan...
Are you stuck at the lock screen immediately after booting because the unlock function doesn't respond to touch? If so, I'm having the same situation. I really hope that waiting a few minutes does the trick...
Edit: even did a full wipe and the thing is still unresponsive. I assume this is a very bad sign. FML.
Have you guys contacted ASUS support? They will probably have you RMA it. How long did you guys have it before this happened? Now I'm worried that mine will do the same thing.
ASUS support did want to RMA my TF that was having this problem. However, after leaving it off for a couple hours, I went to turn it on to wipe out all my account settings and the touchscreen started working again.
I have no explanation for why it started working though. The last thing I did before it was magically fixed was go through the normal shutdown procedure by answering the 'do you want to shut down' using the dock's mouse instead of just holding down the power button. Maybe that made a difference?

This is what happened to me. Stuck at the lock screen, no touch at all. After 4 days of waiting for Asus to reply to my email and several disconnected phone calls, I have returned it to newegg. Since this item is still out of stock I expect to receive a full refund. Which is fine by me. June 8th, here I come.
Same thing happened to me, just returned it to fry's and was able to avoid the restocking fee. Going to get the galaxy tab come june 8th now instead.

I have weird little quirky things like this happen from time to time with my TF, such as having to hit the power button or lock button twice before it works. I think it might be more of a software issue than anything to be honest. Hoping that future updates will correct all of these issues.
I hope its a software issue....
Found a solution that worked for me. I booted into recovery mode by holding vol down and power. then I selected vol up to enter recovery. Then the exclamation point came up with the android robot. I left it like that for a few minutes then held down the power until it resarted.
It booted up like normal, no data lost. I then restarted for good measure. Came right back up like normal, touch screen and all.
Thanks jdmnash. I followed your instructions and it worked like a breeze. Should make this part of a sticky help thread.
Found a solution
Update: Tried every fix I could identify on the forums as I was also draining the battery as suggested on several forums. After 4 days waiting for the battery to drain, I was able to restart the TF and get active responses to the touchscreen. Unfortunately I had performed a reset and wipe earlier so I am having to reload everything. I am happy to have a functioning TF again, but have serious concerns about this failure and this awkward repair method. Additionally, I have still not had a response from ASUS support from 5 days ago.
Mine is constantly doing this. Randomly.
Its as if the daemon for screen touch detection crashes. The rest of the unit is fine but that stops and the only fix is a power button off, then on.
Something is not right here. Its vanilla out of the box, no extra software just the 13 FW update.
Will 3.1 fix this? Hopefully, as it stands, this will have to be returned. It is not fit for purpose, constantly failing.
same problem
Just picked up mine. Out of the box at a cafe it worked just fine. Brought it home and same problem as everyone else in this thread. Have tried all of the suggestions in this thread (except waiting for the battery to die). Even installed the 3.1 update via SD. Still no joy. Guess I'll try a few more things before returning it. My guess is a problem in the supply chain with the capacitors that detect screen touch. Doubt that it can be solved solely through a software update (or if it can it definitely didn't make it into 3.1)
my touch screen stopped working a week ago while i was at school. and i got really pissed and just kept on rebooting it and after like 5 or 6 reboots it started working. Havent had same problem since.
Hmm... thanks for suggestion. Tried booting it about 5 times but still borked. Draining the battery now as my last attempt before taking it back.
Update: I ran the battery down to zero. Charged it up for 30 mins and now it works again. Hope I don't have to repeat that very often.
BTW, the fastest way I could find to run down the battery was to power on while holding down the volume down button. Then just leave it sitting in that state until it reboots itself and then repeat.

Hi , After the battery is zero and then 30 minutes charging, in order to make it work , did you discharge it right after 30 minutes or still you keep it charging ?
I got same problem with my TF which is really a disappointment.. I tried to factory reset, reboot ... but still can't make it work. I have to try this trick by draining the battery to zero. Hopefully, I get advise from all of you for this problem ?
Thanks a lot
Can you guys try using ADW launcher and see if things improve?
I think it did for me.
My TF started an odd behavior in the last couple of days. For some reason it reboots after it's been asleep for an extended period (maybe an hour or so). Info:
I initially had the sleep screen of death, where it wouldn't wake up from sleep without a hard shutdown and reboot. To fix that, I disabled the lock screen and disabled the screen shut off while idle. I also have the wifi set to off while sleeping. Now, while sleeping after about 30 mins or an hour, it will just reboot. I just happened to look over and catch it rebooting this morning. I did a search about it, no one seems to have reported something like this.
Hopefully 3.1 will fix it.
Having this same issue myself. Never did it before and the only new app I have installed was thumbtype.
im having the same problem, running 3.1. My tab will just randomly reboot when sitting there sleeping, and it just happened twice in a row, within 5 minutes of each other. I haven't had any other problems, nor has it rebooted when not sleeping.
Not sure if I should take it back or not, I'm still within my exchange period.
Oh, and I've also installed thumbtype.. though I have a bunch of other programs installed.
Mine started doing this today too. Running 3.1 with dock. Don't believe I installed any new apps today either.
Honestly I did not notice mine doing this at all until I had installed 3.1, granted I only had it for about 4 days prior to 3.1 coming out..
Hrm!
Mine just did it tonight for the first time ever, undocked, running leaked 3.1. Scared the crap out of me too, as I was sitting in a dark room and it just sprang to life, lol.
Add me to the list. Started happening right after 3.1 Primordial. However...I had installed Multiple Live Wallpaper immediately following the update, which was not appearing in my app drawer, but I could open it from the Market. I removed that, and can't say that I have seen the issue since.
so i'm guessing it has to do with 3.1?

I would think so cuz it has already done that twice since installing the leaked HC 3.1
Had mine for a week. I love it but: it updated to 3.1 pretty well straight away and now some days it will go into a sleep reboot loop. The evidence is clear in the ramdump.log files which are, I guess, generated each time this happens. it will reboot every 3 or 4 minutes.
I did a factory reset. It still happens so I don't think it is related to any particular app. I need to know if there is a solution. Is this 3.1 related and likely to be fixed in 3.2? Do I have a faulty unit?
I have had this phone for a couple months rooted it as soon as I got it. I have been running CM7 on it and it has been going good but about 2 days ago out of the blue it just started randomly rebooting and shutting itself down. Is this a known issue with this phone or is it possible the rom I am running is the culprit? If so what is the most stable rom out for this phone right now?
i just bought the phone and it did that 3x a day until i removed the battery and then put it back in. i then fully charged it, with it powered off, and it doesn't do it anymore...

Track back what apps you've been installing/using over the past few days. 99% chance it is the app that just does not sit well with your phone. I have CM7 on mine and it is rock solid and have always been.
Mine started doing the same thing around the same time. Weird. Ever find a fix?
I've seen the problem on my phone... originally I though I had a corrupt SD card, but that's not it. The one posting I saw somewhere that resulted in a response that said "that works" was the one where someone disabled the advanced wifi sleep policy. If you go to Wifi settings to where you view the available networks, and then click on the menu button there is an Advanced option. Under the advanced option you can set the Wi-Fi Sleep Policy to sleep "Never" according to the post I read.
I have no idea whether this works-- I recently did a factory reset for something else, and this always works temporarily to stop the reboots. Can't hurt to try.

So I've had my 16gb Tablet for a few days. Upon first power up, I ran through all the updates, including 5.0. When all the updates were done, I did a complete reset of the system to get Lollipop nice and fresh.
I've noticed that a few days ago, I left the tablet on my nightstand at about 50%, the next afternoon it was completely dead. I didn't think much of it, thinking maybe a program went crazy and sucked it dry. It happens.
Yesterday I left it on my bed at 64%, a few hours later I went to use it and it was powered off. At least I thought it was powered off. I'm noticing this unit might have bad buttons, as they are really squishy and don't have a lot of feedback for the up volume and power. So after pressing the crap out of the power button, it seemed to power back up. It greeted me to showing about 60% battery. Ok, that was weird, but not the end of the world. I plug it in to charge to 1005%.
Last night, I unplugged it at 100% and left it on my computer desk. Just now (next morning) I went to flip open the cover and it wouldn't turn on. I try hitting power and nothing. I hold the power down for about 20 seconds and it finally powers on. It boots up to 48% battery. Now keep in mind that I didn't do anything to it last night when I unplugged it. As a matter of fact, I didn't open apps, but I made sure I swiped all open cards away so nothing was running.
Sorry for the long post, but I want all the details here.
A couple questions:
Anyone else having random sleep issues where it won't wake up? I thought a lot was resolved going to lollipop?
Anyone have issues with soft sloppy buttons with no travel or click on the side? This is my second unit and I thought the first one had better buttons..
I'm having the same issue. Once it goes to sleep, sometimes it randomly just shuts down on its own. When I leave it on overnight, it's almost guaranteed to be off in the morning. Since I've come to work today, it's already automatically shut down twice. What the heck is going on?

It was the first thing I checked, and yes, it's disabled. I did a reset of my device yesterday and I've only had one random shutdown thus far. Not ideal, but still an improvement....
You need RMA, Please read this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56907689
Same story for me, tablet was defective, battery drain even in airplane mode with no application installed. If your tablet do this, don't lose time and change it.
I've just purchased one and it's happening exactly the same, it happens constantly, also the battery drain is considerable.
I'm in Lollipop, and I've already done a coupe of factory reset.
Does anyone know if this can be repaired somehow? Or I'll have to return it...
Thanks!

Never requested a RMA to NVIDIA, are they fast? I've bought the tablet in Amazon, I have doubts yo who should I request it.
Thanks
So you should request amazon, unless Nvidia offer you a direct replacement in their forums.
Quick question. Does everyone here experiencing shutdowns have a case with an auto wake/sleep feature?
I too have this issue. Auto off is disabled.
I tried going back to gingerbread and the power issue is non-existent. Once I do all the updates to Lollipop the issue returns. Think it's an issue with the rom, since gingerbread works flawlessly.
I have both a skin and one with auto wake and my k1 has been shutting down on its own even with just tye skin on it.
