From viewsonic.com/products/gtablet.htm
Features include:
Improvement in JavaScript loading
Better overall performance of Android OS
USB and Wi-Fi Internet Tethering

gmail for mobile 2.0

Google has launched Gmail for Mobile 2.0, an application for mobile devices that allows users to continue working on their email even with low or no cellular signal at all.
The application supports some basic offline access on phones like the Nokia N95, Sony Ericsson W910i, and BlackBerry Curve. It also allows access multiple Gmail or Google Apps email accounts from the same application.
The company says the entire client was rearchitected to push all the processing to the background, greatly improve the client-side caching scheme and optimize every bottleneck piece of code they could find.
Users can expect an overall performance improvement, new powerful shortcut keys and support for 35 languages.
Users can visit m.google.com/mail from their mobile browser to download the new Gmail for mobile for your phone.
Thanks Mods for putting this at the right place

I just use opera mini 4 to access gmail. they seem to have recently made some changes which make it work fine. No need to a separate java client, I can just leave opera mini running and check gmail along with all my rss feeds and news sites.
Offline capability does sound cool however. Can you just fire it up and work without a signal, or does it need to login on the server first?

yep, you will need to 'refresh' to send. I am enjoying this as my exchange can only go back so far I can use full gmail functionality with this.

I have the Esmertec JVM from December and on a QVGA screen I only see two emails in the list.
This is no pleasure to use. Is there a chance to adjust the font?

[Q] GPS position update frequency on WP7 - anything faster than 1Hz?

My Samsung Focus only gets GPS position updates once per second (1Hz). At 100kmph (~62mph), you've already moved ~28meters or 91 feet. Thats pretty inaccurate.
Are there any WP7 phones with built-in GPS that update more frequently than 1Hz?
$40 external Bluetooth GPS units update at 10Hz and some wired usb units update even faster than that. But Microsoft isn't supporting the SPP Bluetooth profile even with Mango update and I see no way to communicate with a generic USB device through the micro-usb port cause you don't get native access to write a driver. So no luck getting external GPS working with the current framework
I'd like to build a list of the GPS update frequency of the various phones out there. Hopefully they are not all using the same crappy GPS chip...
10 Hz GPS update will drain your battery much faster... Also, GPS software have some interpolation algorithms. From my own experience with Navigon 3.0: I very like WP7's default GPS accuracy.
Thanks.
I don't care about battery life though; my scenario has power cable available (non-hand-held scenario).
The compass and accelerometer sensors are available on my device but unfortunately the Samsung Focus does not have a gyroscope.
Accelerometer and compass samples at 50Hz, but they are fairly noisy. The new Mango/7.1 Motion API should help filter some of that noise and maybe I could get a reasonably accurate equivalent of a 2Hz GPS with some tricky math.
Double the accuracy is double the accuracy!
BTW, for what kind of tasks you need this accuracy? As I said before, Navigon 3.0 (see corresponding forum) works very fine and precisely, as a standalone Garmin, for example (what is internally also WinCe device ).
I'm not doing GPS maps. Everybody's done that Mine is more of a real-time motion analysis and visualization. I don't want to give away too many details cause I don't want someone to beat me to the punch. I do know that nobody has an app that does what I want on the marketplace yet.
OK, it's up to you. Take a look to my advice : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15982827&postcount=574
Sent from my SCH-I800 using XDA Premium App
Oh cool. I wonder if mine is set to 1000 impliying 1Hz updates. 500 would be 2Hz updates.
But I reckon when submitting an app to the marketplace you're not allowed to edit the registry

Apple have patents on these features so they are less likely to appear in android.
However it is possible google will implement augmented reality navigation at some point. Or something similar.

No, just not the features mentioned because apple have already shown that they will attack android for any patent they can claim it uses and so google can't risk yet more legal action.
With google glasses I think they will bring augmented reality to android, and improve upon the nfc file transfer feature, things like that.

Windows RT: App recommendations

I am switching from an Android tablet to a Windows RT one. I am looking for apps that can replace the following:
Cam Scanner: It processes the pictures it takes so that they are look better if they are documents.
ezPDF: None of the PDF apps in the stores has capabilities like this. I specially miss seeing the PDF's Table of Contents
Browser with tabbed browsing, even if it's based on IE 10
Google Maps: public transportation directions. G Maps and gMaps are inflexible. The former has fixed times to depart, has mediocre pinch to zoom, and does not manage location very well. The latter (gMaps) does not find routes too many times, and freezes. Neither allow to pick mode of transportation (like bus, train, etc.), best route/less walking etc.
Tile with battery meter that when clicked shows stats of what processes are using the battery and for how long
Offline maps and directions. I use CoPilot GPS in Android
Could you suggest good replacements?
Thanks to your recommendation.
I will test ezPDF.
I looked for nice stand-alone RSS reader in market, and my conclusion was wien rss reader.
It was perfect except shortage of article storage and performance in list mode.
