Hey guys I have SE X10 rooted 2.1, and so far didn't have any problems with it.
Last days I was thinking about trading my X10 for XT720, so I have few questions for you:
1. Does it worth to trade x10 for xt720?
2. How good is camera on it?
3. Can anyone compare xt720 camera with desire, or x10, or galaxy or whatever?
4. How much battery lasts on medium use?
Any advices are welcome thanks
1. Does it worth to trade x10 for xt720?
Yes, it is worth it
2. How good is camera on it?
Very good 8 MP with Xenon Flash and smooth HD recording. And it has a lot of options for a mobile camera, it almost feels like a real camera
3. Can anyone compare xt720 camera with desire, or x10, or galaxy or whatever?
Desire is a little bit faster with games (especially the loading time when starting a game), but normal use is equivalent. I have no experience with 2.1 on X10 (only 1.6 used a few times in the store) and Galaxy.
4. How much battery lasts on medium use?
Usually with medium use, my battery in my XT720 lasts 3-5 days
@Vistaus
+1 Thanks for response .
I've read some reviews, and I'm curious about that buggy night mode on camera?
Can you upload some pictures taken with xt720 please or send via mail or whatever?
I think the XT720 has better value compared to the X10. However, compared to other newer Android phones, the XT720 underperforms.

You're right but xt720 has same processor like Galaxy S, allthough underclocked, but at the other hand offers greater battery autonomy. Amount of RAM is concerning, 256mb is realy low.
Yeah. My XT720 also likes to randomly reboot at least twice per day. It's really annoying and it makes me wish I waited a few more weeks for the Desire Z. It also runs games really slow. Angry Birds, for example, is nowhere near as smooth as it is on an iPhone.
If you can pull off the trade, do it.
The Milestone's superior IPS screen and significantly better touch performance (true 2-finger multi-touch) make it a far better phone than the X10. Also, the Milestone has fast, customized ROMs too. Plus, the CPU can be overlocked and will perform quite well.
The X10 has the WORST touch performance that I've ever used on any Android. Its LCD is so awful that blacks are barely dark gray, and contrast is extremely low. The Acer Liquid E has a higher contrast LCD, with much better blacks, although the Milestone's is among the very best on any handheld LCD.
As of right now, the XT720 cannot have customized ROMs.

It can't have a custom kernel but like the Droid and the Milestone, customized Froyo ROMs based on signed kernels are possible.

I'm sure this has been done to death, but I'm so torn between the 2
I need the phone for web browsing, taking pictures, watching videos off the SD card, instant messaging, occasionaly editing document files plus texting&calling.
Screen
Xperia has a 4inch TFT 16M ready display, but is limited by 1.6. The Desire has a 3.7inch AMOLED screen with 16M colours.
I think that I prefer the X10's screen with it's slightly higher resolution and bigger screen (and it's more usable outside from what I have been reading). Lack of multi-touch makes little difference to me.
Camera
X10 has a 8mp camera with an LED flash and records WVGA at 30fps. The Desire has a 5mp camera also with an LED flash, records WVGA at 15fps and is rumored to haave a 720p capture update along the way.
X10's camera is better for my needs. I take more pictures anyway and according to gsmarena, the image quality is quite good
Call Quality
Good on both from what I can tell.
Tie
Handset
Well not much to write here.
I handled the X10 at a 3 store and the Desire at a Telstra store and was a more pleased with the X10. It really is a stunning phone!
Software
The Desire runs sense on Andriod 2.1 while the X10 uses time/media scape on Andriod 1.6. This is where things get complicated for me. From what I can tell (again, just by reading forums), Mediascape is better for multimedia (very important for me). However, the X10 interface seems laggy and no where near as responsive as the Desire. Is this due to to 1.6? Apparently 2.1 supports hardware acceleration which is why it's smoother. Is this correct?
Desire wins for it's smoother interface. However, if 2.1 fixes the lag in the X10, then X10 wins for me.
Hardware
They both use the same CPU, but the Desire has 1.5x more RAM than the X10
Desire easily. However, I don't multitask much, so if that's all that RAM is used for (i.e. it's not causing the slowdown in the UI), then I'm fine with the X10
You have probably guessed by now that I really want the X10. However, I only buy a phone once every 2 years (buying it on contract). So at the end of the day, I want the most future proof phone. Also, the X10's interface is not as smooth as the Desire.
Which one would you recommend for me?
Thanks!
(Also, is there a way to get landscape QWERTY on the X10?)

Firstly, there is no such thing as futureproofing in the cellphone business, period.
It seems that you've got your mind dead-set on getting the X10 already. You've even started justifying and rationalizing the weaknesses of the X10 relative to the Desire.
If you like the phone, get it and live with it for the next 2 years. Don't overthink it, life is way too short to be worried about something as minute in the bigger scheme of things as a cellphone.
Having said that, based on the flops that are both X1 and X2, you're making a mistake. Get the Desire.

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately I'm just a broke uni student, so getting a phone this expensive is a big deal for me. I just don't want to make the wrong choice.
Yes, I do like the X10, but I'm not sure if the better looks and camera justify the weaker hardware (and the older OS). As for the futureproofing thing, I fully understand that no phone is futureproof. I want a phone that is as future proof as possible

You just answered your own question. Do you want a camera in a fancy plastic shell or do you want a normal looking phone with a powerful engine under the hood? =)
Hi guys,
I own SE Xperia X10i about 10 months that it's just a pain in the ass. It sometimes performs very bad such as no response, laggy and muted by itself during in the call especially when I got the important calls.
I'm really sick of it and plan to move to HTC Chacha. My questions are;
1. In terms of specs, a friend of mine told me that Chacha holds a slower CPU than X10i. is it correct?
2. The overall performance should be faster and more response than X10i?
3. Is it worth to move on to Chacha?
Many thanks,
Lee

The Chacha is much, much faster than the X10i. It's not even close. I don't know what the speed of the CPU in the X10i is, however, CPU speed is just one spec to consider, and not all that important in the grand scheme of things. CPU architecture has a lot to do with it. Think of it like two cars, one has a bigger engine. The one with the bigger engine might not be faster, because the smaller engine might have a turbo, better technology (fuel injection, etc) that gives it more horse power than the bigger engine. So it's important to recognize that the CPU in the Chacha is probably twice as powerful as the one in the X10i (at least).
Also, the Chacha runs Gingerbread which is nice and speedy. The Chacha seems to run quite well so far (had it about a day). I would recommend that you get a large, fast SD card to go with it, however, because you'll need to move apps to the SD card, as there is barely any room for them on the phone's internal storage. I'd say minimum of 4GB, recommend 8GB+. Minimum of a Class 6, recommend a Class 10.
I would definitely recommend the Chacha over the X10i, no doubt in my mind. The keyboard is fantastic, the phone is nice and quick, the hardware feels absolutely great (HTC build quality shows), the features are top-notch, you have access to a front facing camera, and the latest version of Android!
Best of luck!
Coming from another person who has moved from the x10 to the ChaCha, I can indeed confirm that the Cha Cha is a superior phone. It doesn't have the same technical specifications that the x10 has, but it does feel much, much more polished. The real selling point is the excellent keyboard, it's possibly the best full keyboard I have used on any small mobile device, ever. Also, for the first time in my life, I am finding myself using the ChaCha before my laptop to check forums and write e-mail's. This is genuinely the most excited I have been about a phone for a long time (considering that my last two phones were a SE x10 and a Nokia 5800).
I would say they are different type, chacha is a great phone for those who need an android phone with portrait QWERTY keyboard, or bb fans feeling bored with rim OS
as the tittle says i currently own a Samsung Epic 4G which has mega awesome SUPER AMOLED display and want something that is faster(watching HD flash videos and browsing webpage that has tons of pics, has more battery, and better camera and video recording, similar or better audio quality)
right now i could get a Droid X2 but i am not sure if its upgrade or a downgrade
because My Epic 4G has SUPER AMOLED display while droid x2 only has standard LCD display
also i could make the sound quality better on Epic 4G by installing Voodoo
so does the difference in Single(hummingbird with SGX 540 and supports NEON) vs Dual(Cortex A9 with Tegra 2 but without NEON), 8mp vs 5mp worth it to jump all over Droid X2
i do not have any other choice other than X2 to replace my phone
anyone

I like my x2.
But this is my first Android device. I have played with other phones and they are nice. But I still wanna give my x2 a chance. I'm not sure how the fascinate is or how "stock" you keep your phone, but we don't have an unlocked BL. We have several members dev'ing for this device. Liberty is coming to it now(currently Official Beta is out and Full soon to be released). So it depends on what you want.
My x2 Ratings
Display: Rather Nice(super AMOLED will kill your battery from my understanding) I can't complain about our display. It plays HD videos and for the most part is pretty good.
Performance: If you are on stock 2.3.4 it is really good to be out of the box. But the other versions of stock are very crappy. If you are running one of our ROMs you will get pretty good performance on top of the already decent speed. Keep in mind the BL is locked and we can not OC, but things may change, you never know. Overall it is really smooth but will redraw from time to time if you don't use the init scripts.
Battery Life: For me, this has been a BIG bouncer. It depends on what ROM and firmware you are using. On stock it will suck(~7 hrs of moderate use ). But when you run stock 2.3.4 it is a BIG improvement(~13 hrs). For me when I run the Eclipse v1 rom on 2.3.4 I end up with worse battery life (~10 hrs). Keep in mind this is determined by frequency of use and mine was mildly moderate. When I ran my rom(which is over the Atrix Port for 2.3.4) I received 14-20 hrs of life with the same usage. So it really depends, I honestly think the battery life sucks, but I gather most/all Android devices are like this; not too sure.
Development: Rather slow at times and others it is booming. All of October was a bore, but there weren't that many devs(like 3 if that). But this month looks to be different. Seems like there is more life now in the x2 than there has been for a while.
Camera: For taking Pictures AMAZING! But, for taking 720p HD videos rather sad. I've had this phone since launch and I have made 1 successful HD video out of the ~75 videos I have made. If you can handle going under HD to VGA or w/e you will be fine, But I'm looking into a fix for us on this matter.
Overall: I can't make you buy this or switch from your current for this is my Only android device ever. If you are tired of you current phone, then switch. If not then stay with your current phone. Im not sure what the development is on your phone, But If you switch to ours, it will be a little slow, but quality work is available for the x2. Plenty of things for you to try and familiarize yourself with. If my friend asked me the question. I would say yes.
Hope this helps.
Hello Dear One s Community ^_^
finally im able to upgrade my phone from a HTC Desire to something better... But i can´t decide what to get : HTC 1 S or the Sony Xperia S
i need a phone with good cam so:
first of all the software is not important for me i will run MIUI on it so HTC Sense is not important for me
pro Xperia S:
-dedicated camera button
- RGB Led
-Design
-720p Display
-highest dpi
-Normal LCD+Bravia Engine
-Hdmi output
-USB OTG
-32 GB Storage
negative Points:
- much thicker then the One S
-"only" a S3 processor
- smaller community
- cam software not that good
now the One S:
PRO
- Newest S4 processor
- better cam software (sense based miui roms)
- much thinner then the Xperia S
- its from HTC ( i never had ANY problem with my Desire and the Desire is still an awesome phone with the greatest community on the block after 2 years!)
Negativ
- LED Only 2 colours
- Pentile Matrix ( not that good i heard... )
- lower resolution
- only 16 gb storage ...
- i read that the one s has some build issues that the case has some problems
- no USB Otg
- no HDMI (yes with an adapter but then you can´t plugin a keyboard or something like on xperia s only with bluetooth @ one s... )
i really don´t know what phone to get ...
no fanboy comments pls
best regarts Melly
My friend got xperia, I got HTC One S.
What can I say about this:
1. HTC One S is much much more thinner, and design is better
2. Xperia got 32gb memory (I kinda dont care)
3. One S got 25gb dropbox
4. Xperia got better camera and also a button for camera (I would like one on S).
5. S can make photos of video easly, also I think it makes a photo much faster
6. Xperia dont have android 4 officialy
7. I like sens on One S
8. I didnt see much difference between the displays...
9. One S battery lasts longer. Xperias bravia engine takes its part in it.
I came from the HTC Desire to the HTC One S and i am loving it. For me i checked out the Sony Xperia S in stores but not the One S since its not availible in my country atm.
I found the screen on the Xperia S to be amazing, the pixel density is unrivalled however other than the screen the Xperia S didnt have much going for it that i required. Its a bulky phone that ran gingerbread at the time and the user experience was a bit on the laggier side. I havent been keeping up so i dont know if it has ICS yet and if it fixes those issues. The experience on the One S has been great and coming from a HTC Desire its a massive upgrade in all departments.
Main reason i chose the HTC One S was because of the size, build quality and S4 chip. The S4 chip is amazingly fast and effiecient, runs much cooler than my desire for games and i suspect it runs much cooler and more efficiently than the S3 chip found in the Xperia S. In terms of camera, both phones carry good cameras for a phone and the Xperia S seems to have better reviews but neither will replace you digital camera any time soon. I dont think you will notice much difference in quality unless u do careful analysis ;p.
To answer you question on build quality, the Micro Arc Oxidation version (Black) seems to have an unresolved chipping issue and it seems to be the luck of the draw if you get chipping or not. They grey version has none of those issues though. One thing to mention is that HTC are releasing this phone with the S3 1.7ghz chip now so better make sure with your seller before you buy it.
I think you will be happy with either phone but in my opinion if you loved the experience on the HTC Desire you'll certainly love the experience on the HTC One S.
Lastly i think with the new Jelly Bean announcement and Project Butter, when it eventually hits the HTC One S official or ported by devs coupled with the S4 chip, i believe Sense 4 will be absolutely beastly!
xperia s seems like another phone from sony that's too little too late. had they released it with a S4 cpu and ICS then it would would do okay in today's market against the offering from samsung and htc.
I think the One S is sooo fast!
Now i have the cm9 alpha 12 and its running very good!

I own both Xperia S and One S(S4). I think there are quite a lots of misleading
things on the Internet, mainly from poor review bases.
1. The major advantage from XS is the 720P LCD, obviously clear than One S. You can notice it easily. However, it does come with complaint, little yellow tint or over warm color temp. I'm glad to get an excellent LCD with minor issues of both but you might not be the lucky one like me. I do rank them at the same score unless you could find Xperia S equipped with a problem-free screen but the chance isn't high, you have to be real lucky.
2. I believe all HTC ONE will has USB OTG support with custom kernels, just don't think we will see it soon.
3. The smaller community one sadly is One S. You can go to the XS board and spot the situation, there are more threads and more roms, more active users. XS is a worldwide available mobile while One S isn't(it's, now, but divided into S3/S4 lines and S3 just isn't selling any good, at least at here - Hong Kong. None of us going to buy the S3, there are only little shops who sells it too).
4. Pentile Matrix doesn't has any issue on a 4.3" QHD. I don't know how well it performs on a larger screen with higher resolution, it may has some problems there.
5. Both design well. XS is a sex lady while One S is a pretty young girl. It's just a matter of taste. Personally, I would like to know which kind you(OP) are? just kidding...
6. yup, I like the LED on XS. It's better. But I also like One S which is thinner and light weight.
7. S4 CPU is definitely fast and not as hot as XS. The major bonus to One S and this is my main reason to use it as a primary phone. Another problem is you can't charge the XS while the phone is on and the battery temp. goes over 40 degrees(One S still charges at 40+), which is very easy to get to this temp you know it's summer now. I've tried to use air-condition flow or a big cooling fan to cool the XS down, just wish it let me to charge without turn it off. You know it's a horrible experience.
8. Time to speak on the stock ROM side. HTC is overall better, faster and not as buggy as XS(Sony UI is really pretty and there are more custom roms on XS, I think they could solve the stock problems). The battery consumption on the XS rom is superior considered it is on a S3 cpu. Sony manged it very well on XS, did a good job. I've to say the stock One S rom is only a little bit better than XS, not very good performance on battery, almost a well-known here. I know you will switch to MIUI, I'm running LeeDroid V2.1 with SetCPU and got much better battery life.
9. Finally, the camera. They both do a good job on their own, I really can't tell you which is better. They work exactly in the opposite way, very confusing? huh?
In general, XS takes excellent photo at outdoor beat the One S easy, not as fast as but not much slower than One S. While at indoor or low light environment, One S blows the XS away with f/2.0, XS got more noise with slow focus. XS is great for outdoor and One S is great for indoor.
XS does a very accurate white balance all the time outdoor/indoor but One S has faster focus speed outdoor/indoor. The XS auto scenes mode and close up mode works better while One S gives you a 60 photo bursting mode(old rom supports up to 99).
Video part is the XS wins. The video is more stable and the quality is also improved in the official ICS. One S on the other hand, let you shoot 5M photo during recording and offers a funny slow motion video mode.
10. At last, I forget to tell you. The Xperia SL(Lt26ii) will roll out. No one know the details at right now but it might be a S4 cpu or LTE supported device.
Thank you to reading my long reply and not fall asleep.
Just some quick updates to my last reply ....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1629134&highlight=usb+host
It's my fault. One S already supported USB-OTG now. It is just quite trouble because it doesn't provide power. We still need a kernel mod like on One X to make USB-OTG supports better.
And second, it's confirmed Xperia SL remains as a S3 unit. I guess no S4 and LTE, just some minor upgrade like [email protected]
sold my experia and got a one s.. if that tells u something. Got damn small buttons on the xperia got me crazy
I am interested in buying the Motorola XT720 unlocked to use on Straight Talk wireless service. I like that it has an 8-megapixel camera, Android, and especially HDMI out. I would prefer a slider keyboard also, but they are probably out of my price range. I would mainly use it as follows:
30% text
30% web
20% camera/video
10% games
10% calls
After reading some reviews online, it sounds like the video doesn't have the greatest performance and the camera lags. Is that an Android software issue (that an updated Android version and/or ROM would fix), or is the hardware just too powerful for the processor? What other issues are there with this model that I should be aware of, before investing in it?
Thanks in advance for any info!
I strongly advice you dont buy tx720 it not support by moto.
Reasons not to buy!
crapy camers
Crapy video
Crapy battery life
It common for this phone to freeze.
The kernel leaks ram you may have to reboot more than twice a day.
With only 256 ram.
I could go on but thats enough!

Thanks for the quick feedback! I did read about the freeze issue as well, but forgot to mention it on this thread. I hoped that it was merely a software issue, which a newer Android version or home-made ROM would solve.
The 8-Megapixel camera on the XT720 attracted me the most, as it is only 3 cents more than another Android with 5-Megapixels [Sharp FX Plus]. There is another 5-Megapixel camera Android phone [Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10] that I am researching, but it is reported to have a poor battery life as well; it would cost $10 more than the Sharp FX Plus though.
Which of the above three phones would be most recommended? I don't mind if I have to do some modding, as long as the ROM has been tested successfully. Either of the three are an option, as they are unlocked and priced under $100 -- the most I want to spend -- and will use with the Straight Talk service.
Thanks for any feedback and your time!
I don't understand why everyone si bashing XT720 camera!
I don't know if people realize that quality of mobile camera is best reviewed in challenging situations (especially low light capturing). XT720 is in this field maybe still the best Android camera (LED flash on any Android phone simply can't replace real xenon flash).
In a case of good lighting, XT produces good photos, not the best, but still more than good.
recently I have sold my RAZR and again bought XT, because I realized that beside texting/emails and voice calls, my main phone activity is taking pictures, and in that field XT720 is still Android king
