Good Car Home/Car Dock launcher for the Tab? - Galaxy Tab Themes and Apps

My wife's milestone (euro-Droid) has a nice stock car launcher UI. So far I couldn't find an equally nice one for the Tab. Any suggestions?
Btw, a hint for anyone who has a 2006(or thereabout) Toyota Corolla Verso: If you lift the lid of the compartment on top of the center console (the one with the spring loaded hinge) up slightly, the Tab will fit perfectly between the groove at the bottom and the lip on the lid. It really clicks into place, almost like that compartment was built to hold it at just the right angle to be used as a SatNav. I'll snap a few pictures next time.

Nice pick up on the compartment I love it when things just work. I've been looking through market for a good dock app nothing great so far

Yeah; let's see some photos!

Ok, as promised: pics!
Sorry for the quality, these were taken in the parking lot, with bad light, using my old G1.
In the second frame, you can see the groove in the bottom of the compartment. The Tab really clicks into that. There's a corresponding ridge in the lid, which together hold the Tab perfectly firmly. It's really a surprisingly good fit.
Fourth frame is from drivers POV.
Maybe I'll post this in the accessoires subforum too. Though I doubt many readers will be looking to buy a car as an accessoire to their Tab...

It's the ULTIMATE accessory!

The Samsung home dock and car dock apps are available on the market, though for some reason I could not see them with the tab. However, I used a back up app on my galaxy s phone, and simply copied them to the Tab. Once I installed them, they worked fine. The car dock icons are not centered, but still works well.

The Vlingo app works amazingly well as a Car launcher interface. It allows you to speak your commands such as "Navigate to Starbucks" or "Text Jennifer Message Hi there!" It can also be set to read incoming messages as well. Attached is a screenshot from the interface on my Tab.

Any ersion or another app like this that work in spanish?

Kensington Car Dock & base ... it Works!

Kensington K66624US (search for that product code)
Scored 2 of these of Newegg.Com for $12.99 + free shipping, watch for it.
Works fantastic w/ the G2 ... does not block the speaker on the back nor the microUSB charging port, feels secure enough that it should not come off the cradle in normal use.
Cheers!
Dan
Any pictures of it in action?
Edit - Are you referring to http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875992158&Tpk=Kensington K66624US
That's the one yes ... pics coming once I can post URLs ...
Cheers!
Dan
It's going for 29.99 on Newegg and doesn't look at that compatible with the G2. The sides seem like it'll push the camera or volume button while tight and prohibit charging.
It does obscure the VolDown button ONLY ... the VolUp is accessible as well as the camera button. The charging port is NOT blocked either.
Though I certainly hope no one needs to fiddle too much w/ the Vol buttons or camera while driving though. Ain't that the whole point of a mounting solution.
Cheers!
Dan
I have the Arkon mount which I think sells for $17.95 and it doesn't block any of the buttons or ports and has wire management built into the neck. It works great and was designed with the G2 in mind. I have the SM514, highly recommended.
The SM514 from Arkon was def. on my list too ... but for $12.99 incl. the weighted base (for those in MN/CA whom cannot mount to windscreen) ... was a steal.
The weighted base usually sells for $30 much by itself.
The fingers on the SM514 concern me, how well it might hold if the phone is horizontal (GPS use). Anyone w/ the SM514 care to advise.
Cheers!

The fingers slide into a notch so they can be moved for other devices. I have had mine for about 2 weeks and they don't seem to be anything to worry about, quite sturdy. I got my weighted base with another universal car mount I found at Filenes basement, the whole thing was $12.99 but the dock interfered with some of the buttons, so I gave it away, kept the non slip base and bought the Arkon. I am in Illinois, so no worries about windshield mounting here, I have used the dock both ways and it works great both ways, base and windshield. The mount uses a stiff spring mechanism to hold the device, there is no way it is coming out, I even put my phone iin it and shook it hard, stayed put very well.
I would rather get the SlipGrip car dock its cheaper and actually made for the G2 also a bit cheaper.

Its built in the USA pretty good quaility and yes you can charge the phone while its in the dock.
It also has holes so you can take pictures and hear the speaker phone.
Here is a a picture of the dock in my car - http://i.imgur.com/NY7uQ.jpg

I was thinking of picking one of these up. I like the idea of having the camera lense open for use in the dock. It also looks secure the way it clips in.

Its very secure but not to tight to hurt the phone.
The slipgrip seems cool, but it 's not cheaper and you can 't have your keyboard open, which is a nice option to punch out an address or text. They both have their plus and minutes, I just think the arson is more flexible, you can have almost any case on the phone and it still works, if you have another device you want to use it for you can.
I like the SlipGrip dock, but I'd be worried about that clip scratching the side of the phone.

[Q] Flip Case for the Desire HD

Hi Guys,
New owner of a desire HD here, loving it so far
I'm looking for a flip case, same idea as the Noreve in this thread.
I'd like something not too bulky, and ideally a leather/faux-leather texture (again, like the noreve)
What can you guys reccomend, go for the noreve or would there be anything else to consider?
Cheers in advance
Just got one of these ... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400182232785&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:GB:1123 ... *Seems* genuine leather - but I believe even the new leather smell can be faked! Does what I want though. Only critcismj is that the top part across the front of the phone obscures the notification bar a little. But I hardly use this anyway so not a great problem for me.
Arrived very quickly as well.

Yeah, you can't really pull the notification bar down but I would rather have the speaker well clear. It's only 2 key presses to get there anyway and it's great for standing up at various angles to watch video, use on car dash etc. Hey for 6 quid this has to be a great bargain .
You should really try Piel Frama iMagnum case for your dhd. It is really high quality, and more protective than Noreve case. It's a little bulkier, but worth it.

Well I solved the problem with notification bar easily: mapped a swipe action for pulling that out on app drawer button (Launcher Pro).
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I've got the same case but from another store It's good but yes, it hides part of the notification bar and't it's a little tricky to drag it down. Still, it's a good case.
I recommend this case to you guy...

New style car dock

For those of you that want a Fascinate specific car dock that leaves the headphone port open, check this out...

Proclip has there version out now too.

proclip question
Proclip seem nice but expensive. For those of you who have bought one, do they block or restrict the the air flow when used on the vents?
They are not cheap but VERY well made and do not move around at all. Your phone slides in and out with ease. Had one for my iPhone and loved it, so I got one for my fascinate as soon as it was available. With the power chord built in, you can't beat it.
I never used the vent style, I used the clip type that snap to your cars molding.
This looks like what I have been looking for. I want something heavy duty that will not move unless I move it. I hate cheap flimsy docks.
Will probably order one with my next paycheck.
Will it work with cases?

They have a couple of adjustable models that will work with cases, but the ones made specifically for the fascinate only work if naked.
I just picked up the Verizon car dock to find this out the hard way...
sooo I grabbed a tiny screwdriver and took the "slider" apart/off the dock so the end is now open. Not as easy/convenient as I would like but it will do until we get some sort of 2.2 update.

That's kinda drastic, isn't it? I just flip my Fascinate 180degrees (put it in upside down). My ADW launcher just flips the screen, can plug in my audio on right hand side now.

Interesting...I picked up this same dock at my Verizon store with Verizon branding about a month ago for $30. It works quite well, but the phone does not automatically detect that it's docked. If you want to go to dock mode, you have to do it manually. Also, the dock doesn't block the camera and it has built-in cord keepers on the back. Overall, a very good dock if you want to listen to music, but I'll probably order the Samsung OEM dock when Froyo comes out and I can use the audio out.
Yeah, I will too. I can't stand plugging in multiple cords each time I get in the car. I've heard it is a little tough getting it out of the samsung stock, but I can live with that.
With the ProClip mounts you don't have to plug anything in, when you slide it in the dock, It slides into the power port. Much like the desk dock from Verizon. Then slides right out with one hand.

Does the proclips mount put the phone in car-dock mode automatically?

G2 Arm Band?

Anyone else use the G2 with an arm band? I'm thinking of it since I don't want to go out and buy an ipod nano.
Which one are you using and how's the fit?
I have a feeling the G2 feels a bit too heavy for comfortable running, but it's worth a try to ask!
G2 is a bit heavy for armband imo
l think they cost around £10-20 so if you want to use it for running i would just
buy an ipod shuffle £30 or sony Walkman W-series £27 it is waterproof (if where you live rains all the time like here in scotland) and it doesnt have any wire.

^------------ Pretty much what he said. another option though, as it may sound silly is to have a light belt with a side pouch to put the phone in and keep it secured. you can probably combine that with your housekeys and necessary cards and have a 1 pouch for all.

not exactly this one, but the same idea. I have a plain one that has 2 slots. a big one for whatever electronic i have and a tiny one for keys or cards.
I just hold it in my hand, and I'm a girl. Not very comfortable but it's not the end of the world.
nano and shuffle don't have GPS on them and I can't google tracks or CardioTrainer on them.
I would like a functioning armband also. I can't hold the phone in my hand when I'm on a bike. I have a Nano for music, but I'm also wanting to use Endomondo or Sports Tracker

search this forum for iarmband to see what people think. They are $15 iarmbands.com
I used one for my G1 and loved it. When I upgraded to the G2, I got an iarmband to fit it. I also use my iarmband to 'mount' my phone on exercise machines at the gym using the strap doubled over and velcroed with the additional tab.
I began using a football wrist coach with my Touch Pro a few years ago and my G2 fits nicely, as well. (google or bing "football wrist coach" to see more versions than you'll ever need) I stumbled on this while trying to find something in my stash of extra parts to secure the relatively brick-like Touch Pro to my upper arm and reduce the flopping during runs. The wrist coach holds everything securely and I'm not constantly having to readjust it.
When running, I have it rotated so the clear panel is facing away from my body to prevent the phone from hitting my torso. When riding, I have it rotated so the clear panel is on the inside of my wrist, which is convenient for quickly glancing down at the screen while in the aerobars or drops.
Cons:
- the come in several sizes, so you need to find a sporting goods store to assure you choose one that will fit your device and your arm
- you may need an extension cable for your headphones if you want to listen to music on your device while running; the swing of your arm can pull the earphones out of your ears easily - not a problem while riding typically.
e.g. My high-end Shure earphone cables are modular and work perfectly, whereas my mid-range $50 Sony's cables are too short for running comfortably.
As always, YMMV

Finally received and tried the iarmband. It works for my runs. I like that the touch screen works through clear screen cover. Issues are the headphone hole is not perfectly aligned. It is a little tight on the arm, could have more ajustability. Overall I am very happy with this solution, issues are minor. I would recommend.

I bought the Arkon SM armband for my G2...
I had read this thread plus the one over at androidforums.com before selecting it.
Here is the link.
EDIT, guess i need to make a couple more posts to put in a link....ok so here is the link text then for someone to copy if desired.
amazon.com/Arkon-Sm-Armband-Blackberry-Motorola-Smartphones/dp/B004VFFT3I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1327086415&sr=8-2
It works ok, although to make it real tight like i like it I put on 2 wristbands first (even though its up on my bicep area), then slide the thing on. Also, any case for the G2 must be taken off for it to slide in....even then its quite a tight fit. Not something you just pop in and go, gotta work it a tad. This is due to phone width, not.....face size....I guess.
Overall, pleased for the 16 bucks i dropped on it.
I bought a cheap armband a while ago off Ebay similar to this.
Works perfectly for me. Touchscreen works through the transparent plastic window.
Had to cut off a very small piece of the neoprene for the headphone plug to fit.

Samsung Bluetooth Keyboard

Been using this for a day now, aesome and very stylish.
Best part it doubles as a case, also has the android key functions on the keyboard.
Keyboard takes a little adjusting to a small but very good quality.
Was originally £80 but got it for £50 from Samsung online.

Can you please advise if the keyboard and tablet can connect together with the tablet screen facing up rather than the screen facing down onto Keys?
Or is it possible to use a hard case on the table with the keyboard?

It cannot close that way because the recessed part that the tablet hooks into is expecting a curve instead of the straight edge of the tablet face.
No...there is no way a case would work with this. It is very snug.
My observations are the case could use a couple of magnets to keep the tablet in the slot.
And I don't like that the keys are cupped, flat keys would allow more strike tolerance...
Otherwise it's a great case and definitely protect the device well...
PS... I agree with the question that it would be nice if the tablet snapped in facing up so make the case and tablet one piece when holding...
I swapped back to the book case but purely as I wasn't typing as much.
The case combo is so cool though.
Battery life lasts ages for me but I'm and infrequent user.

Do you think one can DIY? I think it can be done by using double-sided tape and a few strip of magnets. Tape a strip on the slot and one the bottom back side of the tablet. How about velcro tape? Something similar to iPad's smart cover.

The problem is it raises the tablet and makes it unstable. The magnet needs to be inside the case/keyboard to work right.
As it is it works fine on a flat surface like a table, the problem is using it on your lap or other places where tablets replace laptops...
I've all but stopped trying to type on the keyboard, the cupping on the keys makes it next to impossible to get used to... I got the Logitech keyboard to type on and just use this one as a hard shell case...
Does the keyboard work like a usb keyboard or you can only use it as bluetooth?
