G2 Arm Band? - G2 and Desire Z Accessories

Anyone else use the G2 with an arm band? I'm thinking of it since I don't want to go out and buy an ipod nano.
Which one are you using and how's the fit?
I have a feeling the G2 feels a bit too heavy for comfortable running, but it's worth a try to ask!

G2 is a bit heavy for armband imo
l think they cost around £10-20 so if you want to use it for running i would just
buy an ipod shuffle £30 or sony Walkman W-series £27 it is waterproof (if where you live rains all the time like here in scotland) and it doesnt have any wire.

^------------ Pretty much what he said. another option though, as it may sound silly is to have a light belt with a side pouch to put the phone in and keep it secured. you can probably combine that with your housekeys and necessary cards and have a 1 pouch for all.

oh god no not a fanny pack.
i meant like a vertical pouch that goes on your side not the front. something that is slimmer.. let me see if i can find some pics. brb
edit: something along the same vein as http://www.bargainstation.com/Produ...-Detachable-Shoulder-StrapNylonBlack-Platinum
not exactly this one, but the same idea. I have a plain one that has 2 slots. a big one for whatever electronic i have and a tiny one for keys or cards.

I just hold it in my hand, and I'm a girl. Not very comfortable but it's not the end of the world.
nano and shuffle don't have GPS on them and I can't google tracks or CardioTrainer on them.

I would like a functioning armband also. I can't hold the phone in my hand when I'm on a bike. I have a Nano for music, but I'm also wanting to use Endomondo or Sports Tracker

Check your local walmart, ive found quite a few iphone 4 pouches that fit my dz fine. Usually the cheaper no name brands fit, as theyre usually too big for the iphone because theyre so cheap lol. But i mean hey...whatever works right?

search this forum for iarmband to see what people think. They are $15 iarmbands.com
I used one for my G1 and loved it. When I upgraded to the G2, I got an iarmband to fit it. I also use my iarmband to 'mount' my phone on exercise machines at the gym using the strap doubled over and velcroed with the additional tab.

I began using a football wrist coach with my Touch Pro a few years ago and my G2 fits nicely, as well. (google or bing "football wrist coach" to see more versions than you'll ever need) I stumbled on this while trying to find something in my stash of extra parts to secure the relatively brick-like Touch Pro to my upper arm and reduce the flopping during runs. The wrist coach holds everything securely and I'm not constantly having to readjust it.
When running, I have it rotated so the clear panel is facing away from my body to prevent the phone from hitting my torso. When riding, I have it rotated so the clear panel is on the inside of my wrist, which is convenient for quickly glancing down at the screen while in the aerobars or drops.
Cons:
- the come in several sizes, so you need to find a sporting goods store to assure you choose one that will fit your device and your arm
- you may need an extension cable for your headphones if you want to listen to music on your device while running; the swing of your arm can pull the earphones out of your ears easily - not a problem while riding typically.
e.g. My high-end Shure earphone cables are modular and work perfectly, whereas my mid-range $50 Sony's cables are too short for running comfortably.
As always, YMMV

I have been searching for a running band for months. This looked like the best option on this thread so I ordered one today. I will provide feedback when it arrives.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App

Finally received and tried the iarmband. It works for my runs. I like that the touch screen works through clear screen cover. Issues are the headphone hole is not perfectly aligned. It is a little tight on the arm, could have more ajustability. Overall I am very happy with this solution, issues are minor. I would recommend.

I have the Arkon SM-Armband and it works amazing and is only $14.95. Maybe find it cheaper on ebay or amazon. Here is the link to view videos and purchase:

http://www.arkon.com/sports_armband/tmobile_g2_armband.html

I bought the Arkon SM armband for my G2...
I had read this thread plus the one over at androidforums.com before selecting it.
Here is the link.
EDIT, guess i need to make a couple more posts to put in a link....ok so here is the link text then for someone to copy if desired.
amazon.com/Arkon-Sm-Armband-Blackberry-Motorola-Smartphones/dp/B004VFFT3I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1327086415&sr=8-2
It works ok, although to make it real tight like i like it I put on 2 wristbands first (even though its up on my bicep area), then slide the thing on. Also, any case for the G2 must be taken off for it to slide in....even then its quite a tight fit. Not something you just pop in and go, gotta work it a tad. This is due to phone width, not.....face size....I guess.
Overall, pleased for the 16 bucks i dropped on it.

I bought a cheap armband a while ago off Ebay similar to this.
Works perfectly for me. Touchscreen works through the transparent plastic window.
Had to cut off a very small piece of the neoprene for the headphone plug to fit.

Also - a lot of iPhone straps, but not a lot of confirmation, despite the similar dimensions, that the N1 will fit snuggly.
Anyone tried any of these who can advise on which are good \ bad? Any good ones I have missed?
There was a lot of arkmband discussion on another thread...maybe some scoop there.

I rock the tuneband, its solid enough... i wish the strap was wider for a bit more support for the phone but definitely does the job...
I put on the screen protector as well for ****s and giggles and its actually not bad

Have you done hard sprinting with it? I love my Tuneband, but haven't dared to run full sprint with it.

yea it jostles around a bit... i would recommend you strap it high enough to tuck a sleeve over it
I run with the Belkin armband (from when I had an iPhone), and sony bluetooth earphones. I find it fits the Nexus quite snugly, the sound quality is great even while sprinting and no cables!
for those of you with a tuneband, does the phone fit with a case?

It fits perfectly, but I haven't dared to do hard sprinting with it yet, since it's not a full coverage. It's like a silicon sleeve and the band goes through the back of the sleeve.

This works perfectly for me. The normal way of using it with the iPhone will not work with the nexus because the hole for the 3.5mm jack is on the wrong side. Rather than destroy the thing, I put it on upside-down and it has two holes on the bottom, one of which I can use. Also this way the flap that allows you to slide the phone in and that's supposed to keep the phone inside the thing is on the top and somewhat secure thanks to the 3.5mm plug. Also, I've used it on about 15-20 different runs and it's never bothered me or showed any signs of wear.

Got it.. Ran 3 miles today, did back and biceps! Cord NEVER got in my way, and stayed plugged in the whole time!! **** YEA
Never even felt it was there, i can still swype text. Never really even thought it would be comfortable. I had to put it up higher than my bicep... If you have over 17" Biceps this would be a uncomfortable product.

Try the one I linked to. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be disappointed.
non of these places ship to Australia
I use the Belkin Sport Armband - but I wear it around my wrist so the N1 ends up riding like a big flat watch. The RunKeeper app is really well done, and wearing it like this allows me to see pace and distance, etc.
I haven't tried it with headphones yet.
I just got my Tuneband a couple of days ago. The days I got it I used it one the treadmill for a 30min jog at 6mph and no issues. Yesterday I used it at the gym on the weight machines and no issues either. I figure if it the N1 did pop out at least the speaker wire should keep it from hitting the floor. But it felt solid the whole time. Good product, especially when it was 12.99(?) on sale at amazon.
I ended up buying some iphone armband for like $7aud. Went for a 10KM jog the other weekend, and i cant fault it!!!
I had to cut a hole for the nexus one head fone jack but other than that perfect! Just on the outside of the where the phone sat was sweaty but inside not one drop!

Armband

I have been searching for an armband for this phone, but so far I have found nothing, that is aside from the armbands for the Iphone and N1.
Has anyone found any compatible armband for jogging with this phone?
the generic armbands for iphone are compatible with SGS as well
is great, if you go out jogging often. or if you are biking.
just don't fall on the arm that got your phone if anything happens, protect the phone at all cost
For information, I had an iphone3GS with an armband from Belkin
I went for a quick run yesteray ( not even 21k ) and treied to use it for the Galaxy
Fortunately it can be streched because the galaxy is a little bit wider .. .but that's ok
It's a little bit longer so I was worried about sweat on the headphone plug but i looked OK
I was able to use the phone through the protection screen to look at map when I was lost even it is was not super accurate
I have the same iphone armband from Belkin. It is a squeeze but it fits without risking damage to the phone. I prefer a tight fit because I use the band upside down so that if I stop to change playlists then the phone is orientated in the right way to read the screen text.
cheers guys
I think I'm gonna try out one of these: http://www.xtrememac.com/Products/Sportwrap2/Sportwrap-for-iPhone-3GS---Black/

I hesitated to put it upside down for the same reason ( music and also for the map)
So you didn't have any problem ? I guess it's so tight that it won't move ??
hey guys
Just to confirm, is this the Belkin one you both have? model F8Z334-BLK
(i dont seem to be able to post links..)
Mine is looking like thisone :
http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=492884#
I bought the 3GS one but I thought it was too much of a tight fit, since I live in the Netherlands and I often have to put up with a bit of drizzle when I run, I was a little concerned.
Instead I found this one for the Ipod classic that might just do the trick
can't post the link due to my nooby status at this forum tho, but you can find it at the same belkin site at the ipod section
link? picture? or at least the name and model #?
i think something is missing

This is the only reference I could get
Part # F8Z504tt064
I haven't bought it yet though but from what I saw at the store it was a tad larger than the 3gs one
UPDATE: actually now I have been looking for armbands that may fit the evo, those seem to be a little easier to find.
according to the sizes:
SGS i9000 (our phone) = 122.4 x 64.2 x 9.9 mm
itouch = 110 x 61.8 x x 8.5 mm
iphone4 = 115.2 x 58.6 x 9.3 mm
these armbands fits perfectly
i like this one because is made of Neoprene front and back, and it's a full screen, so good for rainy days mostly waterproof except for torrential rain, but who is crazy enough to go out in such a storm?
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.41116 (double stich)
if you want a fully waterproof 100% get one of these instead
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.42413
they do work, i use it often when i go to the pool, just don't go diving with that in your arm, the sheer force will snap the armband off, no surfing either, just regular swimming is okay.
the next one up is this one
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.34197 (single stich)
but the front is made out of other material, that might crack after a few years of wear and tear, that kind of plastic used in the front will harden after a while.
they have more selections and colours
http://www.dealextreme.com/search.dx/search.armband
but those are the only models i like for our SGS i9000

I just picked one up on ebay for the Evo 4G, and it fits fine
Got the iphone 4 one from dealextreme. Its a bit short for the Galaxy S, but it works.
However, there is one thing that dont work. Who do they use as model for wearing these armbands? I don't exactly have bodybuilder biceps, but so far all straps have been a bit short. I dont think they would be long enough with a year of lifting steel...
The Belkin one for ipod classic was also a tight fit, and have the same problems as the dealextreme. A bit short, a bit small transperent area for the screen and way too short strap. Build quality far better. A Belkin armband molded on the SGS and with a bit longer straps would be great. Even better if there was some sort of secondary attachment in case the velcro failed.
wow you are the first one that thinks those straps are short
most people i've heard talk about those / reviews complais the straps are too long
LOL
no i don't know which side of the story is more realistic.
i was reading some here or if not on the reviews at deal extreme, the guy had to endup cutting the extra slack because it was too long.
i've not purchased mine yet, but i'll be buying one soon
i like the waterproof one, and i also want a regular one for normal use
Have spoken to these guys and their armband specific to Galaxy S will be availbale mid/end Sept.

[Q] What case do you use for running with your nexus one?

As the weather gets better (colder ), i'm getting ready to run outside.. and plan to take my Nexus One for the ride (runkeeper + pandora). And I was wondering, all the runners out there, what do you guys use to carry your nexus one while running?
http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-Google-Nexu...949370?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item33600f53fa
this is the case that i bought and use now. it works. it's nothing special. fits very well with a clear plastic case that i used to have. now i have a silicone one, and i need to take off the silicone to place the phone in the running case. the two surfaces make it real hard to place the phone inside it. the picture doesn't show that the top strap is actually not centered on the case, but more to one side. this does give you a space for headphone jack. i just found it awkward at first. i'm used to it by now.
if you run and you want a rugged case, there is only one option. Otterbox defender. i have one for my N1 and my ipod touch. both extremley good quality and semi water proof. see here http://www.otterbox.com/nexus-one-cases/
i bought a belkin ipod touch armband for my nexus one and its fits perfectly snug. best thing for running.
I use my nexus for running all the time. My shorts all have pockets, so I just pop it in there. I'm using Bluetooth headset, so there's no danger if the cord snagging on something and pulling the phone out. I used to use an arm band with my iPhone, but I just felt a little too g.I. Joe ;p
For what its worth, Cardio Trainer is well worth checking out. It does audio notifications of pace and distance and automatically pauses if it detects that you stop moving. Basically means that you don't need to pull out your phone while you are running. I've used several apps both on android and iphone and I think its best in show hands down, even better considering its free.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I use the sporty pal application. i like the fact that it has different types of a workout;running, bicycling etc.. Usually after running I switch to walking mode for my cool-down. This is the only instance that i take it out of the case.
I don't think that the otterbox case has like a holster clip or anything like that. I'm a bit too paranoid to carry my $500 phone in my pocket while i jog. Don't want it flying out and breaking, or even moving around in my pocket.

armband?

Anyone found a suitable armband to go running/work out in while keeping my lovely g2x safe and sound from falling out or getting my sweat all over?
or if you have a universal sized armband and are having success with your g2x in it please do share your experiences!

yea i looked at those armbands that are on amazon and I am not too wild about them... right now my biggest candidate is the adidas miCoach armband...

looking for an armband as well. All I saw were those few amazon entries and one bad review that said the phone sticks up above the cover. I might go to target and try a bunch for the iphone.

Well I am going to take one for the team, I ordered the one that amazon has listed with the ONE bad review... for 17 bux shipped so its whatever...
i went to best buy today and opened a bunch of boxes of stuff and nothing seemed to really fit... i tried the miCoach for the IP4 and it was a huge fail
I pondered using my tunebelt from my nexus one and just getting a different silicone case but with the phone being as big as it is and 12 grams heavier that it may be a little too flimsy and flopping around for my liking...
I want something with the form factor that the amazon armbands or miCoach has where the phone fits into a sleeve and wont flop around... assuming the phone does not stick out literally an inch and the phone will stay in when I am jogging or doing plyometrics, i will be happy with my purchase...
full review to come when i get it...

Thanks for your upcoming review I appreciate that
Ok so here is my review of the VanGoddy Armband for the G2x/O2X/EVO4g/Atrix/any other giant ass phone!
(Picture album is linked on the bottom of the post)
First off I would like to state what sort of view I am coming from as to eliminate any bias by stating my biases from the get go. I am a slim, athletic body type, 14 inch biceps, 6 foot, 160 pounds. I typically will be doing a lot of running with this device and I referee soccer and will often strap it on while I run a game so I can track my positioning, distance, ect. so I wanted a band that would not be too gaudy and I could hide a bit under my sleeves (underarmor and uniform sleeves). Since again running was my main use with some use in the gym I wanted stability while holding the device so it was not sliding around, flopping around or possibly flying out of the pocket. The other main feature I was looking for was material quality and anybody that works out knows neoprene is clutch especially for people who sweat a large amount, like myself, when I work out or go running. Tad bit of personal information for ya there!
The unboxing and first impressions: VanGoddy shipped it in a bubble wrap envelope, nothing fancy and the item did not need anything fancy. Right away when I looked the thing over I could tell that the pocket to hold the phone looked a tad large for my phone and that the plastic screen was cheap and small. Just putting the armband on, I put it on as tight as I could get the velcro to go and it was a perfect fit, very snug and even tighter when I flexed how my arms would be while running.
Upon slotting the phone in I noticed two things, the clear screen cover does in fact suck, and the phone will fall out of the slot naturally. The device was definitely made with a "universally wide" pouch and I would argue favors the wider phones such as the Atrix, Evo4g and DX; our slim phones got the shaft in this design. I put the armband back on, tightened up, even loosened it a hair from where I had it last time and boom! it actually felt pretty good. Swinging my arm around the phone was pretty snug, I could not get it to fall out regardless of what I was doing which earned it some "do points" in the do or die ratings! I would clear this for use in the gym for bench pressing and doing other strange arm angle lift routines.
Onto the screen cover. This was my biggest grip with this thing. You do not get a lot of cover real estate to work with and the way the cover was stitched into the armband was absolutely thoughtless because it does not even come close to sitting flush with the screen. The part that is stitched around the screen on the outside is a flexible plastic and on the inside they overlapped material so that the screen is not sitting against the plastic cover screen. (See picture overlap flap) This caused another problem that annoyed me a little, if the phone shifted in the slot too much to one way or the other the edge of the phone would get caught on one of these flaps on the inside around the screen edge and offset the phone. It did this twice during my little 3 mile jog while I was trying to skip a song. Getting to the notifications bar while in the slot is damn near impossible, I had no trouble hitting the softkeys but the notification bar is inaccessible. This is partly due to the long "ass" our phones have so the top part of our screens will not be within the clear cover's viewing range.
I did and do not play with the phone much while running because I have very satisfying playlists. Handling touches through the screen was about on par with other covers of similar thickness. I did not really have a problem executing touch commands but changing the volume was a little weird since I had to essentially just squeeze and guess where the volume buttons were on the side. On the bright side, because the screen is not very tight to the screen and the neoprene resists water, I never noticed the screen to fog up on me.
All in all for $17 something cents shipped this is not a terrible armband by any means. It is no 30-40 dollar custom phone fitting armband but it is not so cheap that I just pitched it laughing at what I bought, I would say I got what I paid for and maybe a bit more. Score wise I would give this guy a 7/10. It is good but it definitely has some shortcomings. If you are skinny and dont have at least a 13inch bicep I would not recommend you purchase this device, for fear of it sliding off of your arm. Get used to running with this on your left arm, I found the cord positioning much better and it was getting tangled less around my arm.
Some things I would have liked to see and would be a more quality screen cover. A bit more velcro (one more inch) to possibly go tighter for maybe some more extreme sports or intense working out and for smaller biceps. A slot for a Key is always a nice addition but I usually find a place in whatever pair of shoes I have; sliding it behind the phone you would risk it flying out, I would bet money that it flies out on smaller biceps.
If you are looking for something to get the job done then this is the device for you because it does exactly that. It does not do it extremely well, wow, or impress me in any way but it for 17 bucks it served my needs. Again 7/10 from me...

Enjoy and Thanks for reading!
thanks for the great review. It sounds like this is the best one out there right now.
Just bought one, hopefully it will be sufficient. Just need it to keep the thing dry

I dont think you will have any problem keeping it dry, just make sure nothing from your shoulder or upper arm drips down since the top is open

[Q] best armband for exercise

I have looked around and havn't found one that was made just for the epic. I did find one that stated it was for the epic but on the picture it showed a fascinate. It seems like the Droid X one will fit, especially with my Active X case still on, but I wanted to ask before I made a purchase. So which armband do you use for your epic?
Duct tape that ***** to your arm bro.
What kind of exercise? I find armbands too restrictive for weightlifting. Ziploc bag + pocket = win.

This is what I use. I also have the Active X case. It is a tight fit and trying to actually use the touch screen is nearly impossible, but it does hold the phone and once I've got Pandora running, I just set it and forget it.

Moisture has caused issues with peoples' (or their girlfriends') phones.

I personally use Tune Belt. It fits the phone snugly, protects it from moisture, and fits your arm nicely (There is an optional band extender for a dollar more that you can get if you've got diesel biceps)
I've had it for several months and its worked out great. I got it from Amazon for 17.95. Go there and search for Tune Belt and click on the one that says it fits Droid, Droid Incredible, and others. Thats the one I have.
Hope it works for you as good as it worked for me.

It fits great! I have been using mine for about 8 months. It is a little beat up but still fine. I run 3 miles 4 times a week. I took a exacto knife and cut a little square of plastic out of the bottom so i could use the buttons. Works great for me!

Thanks for this, but this is actually the one I found on amazon that stated it was for the epic but has a picture of the captivate. I don't mind taking the case off every morning to go running but I just feel better knowing that the Active X case will be doing its job while I'm being active. So how tight of a fit is it, I currently have a cheap walmart one that ripped after the 4th day, even without the case, it was meant for an ipod though

This does seem like the best one out there, but how do you put the phone into the armband? I ask because my current armband has a little opening a little bit before the top of the phone as most armbands do but while I'm running I seem to sweat so much that it actually starts building up. Mostly due to the fact that I force the phone into the armband which stretches it out and opens the little cut into a huge inch thick whole. Also do you use it with only the phone or with a case on?

I thought about this armband the most since it seems to be the biggest in size. What worries me is the opening, my current armband lets the sweat go into the phone and the opening is right where the camera is at this could prove a big problem later on. I also run 3 miles 4 times a week but have had to stop recently because I just don't enjoy running as much without endomondo running in the background telling me my distance and spotify playing my favorite tunes. Does your phone take in any moisture after your run?

i've tried out many different bands for my epic.
i can't speak for other exercise, but for running, i find the belt clip to be the best choice. i don't know how others do it, but having something as bulky(relatively) as epic around your arm... as you swing your arm for miles and miles... it does get quite bothersome.
having your phone by your waist, it minimizes movement of the phone as you run.
think about it, your waist vs your arm. which one moves more as you run?
it really works well.
just my 2c

I'm another Tune Belt user and I've been satisfied. Not a profuse sweater, but never had the moisture problems. One problem with the belt clip option is that it will hurt your bluetooth performance particularly for heart rate monitoring, which is my main reason for taking the phone on the run.
just to clarify, i use a belt clip holster... just a regular one.
ebay link
i'm not sure if i purchased mine from this particular guy, but it looks the same as that one.
also, i have HxM bluetooth heart monitor, and have not experienced any different reading when i wear the phone on the waist or the arm.
the only negative thing about a belt clip holster is that you need to fasten your running shorts... but i do this normally anyway, so not much of a loss for me.
I use a belkin - I think it's for an iphone. It's a snug fit, but I can get it all the way in so that the top hole closes around the phone and I don't have to worry about it popping out. I did have a couple instances where the position on my arm caused the neoprene to bump the volume buttons, but rotating it slightly seemed to fix that problem. The touch screen is difficult to use, but not impossible... I'm not sure about fitting a case inside of it though? Oh, and in order to use the headphones, just stick the phone in upside down ;-)
[edit] and i do apologize that I didn't notice this post was from september...
I'm sure everyone has moved past this since it was posted 4 months ago, but I thought I should mention it for anyone listening. Im a long distance runner (30+ miles a week) but lift a couple of days a week as well. My holster of choice is the Amphipod Runlite Airstretch Hydration belt. it has a zip close pocket for IDs and keys, a velcro close pouch for my Epic, and removable water bottles. Very comfortable.
Sorry I cant direct link, but I haven't posted much. More of the lurker type
