TV OUT?

Hi,
I was wondering if this capability is possible on the Desire? Would it be possible in future? It would be nice to connect the desire up to the TV, a bit like the N900 to quickly watch some videos, pictures, play games etc...

Great question, and I'd hate to see this get lost in the shuffle. I'm no pro in this regard, but i know of no external-out from any of these HTC phones other than music, phone, usb data...
But I would love some XDA-dev whiz to write some gizmo that exploits some X factor inside the Desire that magically makes this possible
Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible. The Droid Incredible will have composite output and I think the Evo 4G has HDMI outut.
The Incredible and Desire are very similar spec wise and the composite out is via micro usb, I'm still hoping this can also work for the Desire.
Would be awesome if we could port the incredible tv-out option to desire.
But first let´s take a look at the hardware side
Could someone please take a look at the desires micro-usb port?
Does it share the same 7 extra pins as seen on this shot of the incredible micro usb port?
BTW "homemade incredible tv-out cable:
http://lanrat.com/android/incredible-video-out
Nope, Desire does not have those extra pins for video output. .
Wonder if this would still be possible to do with the normal Micro USB port. Not that is matters much to me as I don't even have a TV, but eh. lol.

Phones with TV Out?

I'm looking for something that will give me a TV Out function.
I travel a lot and I had thought about a netbook that I could hook up to a hotel TV but I already carry a rubbish work laptop so I don't really need to be lugging a netbook too.
Thats got me to thinking about phones with TV-Out.
Ideally I'd like something that I can playback movies, browse the web and maybe play some games (SNES, Genesis emus) via a hotel TV, it doesn't have to be HDMI in fact I'd probably rather have composite so I can connect it to the antiquated TV's the hotels I stay in seem to have!
Any suggestions?
here is a partial list:

I have seen confirmation that the Samsung Galaxy S can dump out component thru its 3.5mm headphone jack.
I think that would suit you perfectly.
Why don't you consider using an adaptor of some kind for your laptop since it almost certainly has a video out interface?
But if I had to choose a phone for TV-out, I'd probably pick the Galaxy S as well since I saw it's HDMI out demoed and it was quite nice.
Rhodium has TV out and works well

Why no micro composite out on the Droid X, Incredible has it

Hello guys, I love my Droid X but watched some videos of people hooking up to composite (much better than HDMI, not so limited). Anyone know how we can get this on the Droid X? I have a nice stereo in my car that plays movies and would love to see exactly what I see on my droids screen on my stereo. I repeat the INcredible does this!!!! Thanks
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=hdmi+to+composite+adapter
personally, every tv or screen in my house has hdmi, and I use bluetooth in the car while watching movies on the droid x, so it works pretty good for me.
did you check the google search before you made that link? it looks like he wants the out for his car, all that google brings up is set top boxes that do converting. which isn't mobile and probably isn't very easy to incorporate into a car.
I think your SOL buddy, the only option is to go with the htc inc, while it doesn't do HD out, it will broadcast all of the screen all the time, as opposed to the evo which i hear just does video output (youtube video players) and the droidx that only does gallery output
someone wants this over hdmi?
Technically HDMI is better than comp, comp is video only, no audio. Why would you do that? Not only that, HDMI can support higher resolution than comp, above 1080, not that it matters being that the X can only play 720. Just saying, why would you purposely limit yourself? its dumb.
I was wondering the same thing. And I'd prefer comp because my house isn't filled with hdtv's so outputting hdmi isn't all that helpful to me. This feature actually plays a big part with why I may be choosing the Incredible over the Droid X but if i could do this on the X, I may be easily swayed.
I would prefer to find an hdmi to component adapter.
well and theres no HDMI to comp "adapater" all the HDMI to comp products you see are full on hardwire that has a chip that has to read the HDMI and reformat the single to comp. so a whole box needing it's own power and what not isn't very usable for a phone.
unforently it's not like svid to comp something like that the single doesn't need to be reformatted. The big deal hear is you would need to go digital to analog and there's no way of doing that without serious hardware.
unforently the hdmi out on the phone isn't like hdmi or dvi out on a computer (that can pass a analog signal as well as digital.

Mytouch 4G Slide Tv Out function

I'm not quite sure what tv out is, but I was wondering how I can connect my phone to my tv and view through my tv any content on my android phone. I have a mytouch 4g slide. For example, could I view the internet on my TV through my phone? Any help is greatly and desperately appreciated.

The MT4GS does video out through its headphone jack. The pinout is the same as the cables for 5th Gen iPods, the one I have is the "Composite Video/Stereo Audio Output Cable for Original 5th Gen Apple iPod Video - 6ft" from monoprice for $1.43 (don't post enough here to link). It works well enough - the image quality is obviously only what you can get out of composite, which isn't great by modern standards, but it's fine for playing SD video or the like. The normal screen stays active, and the content is mirrored to the TV when connected.

i'm pretty sure it was advertised as 1080p playback. is this the only way to use tv out? maybe i'm wrong but i thought i saw this comment somewhere, which is why i was confused because this phone has no mini hdmi out like the g2x

Here you guys are I use the same thing to play video games and watch netflix.
Great graphics for an rca connection. Radio shack and best buy and 40 buks in stroe at least. I told em hell no lol.
Btw marco its a complete mirror of your phone. And when its flipped side ways it goes full screen or when an app is opened it goes full screen really cool!

Here is the link to the original thread about this topic. The mt4gs records in 1080p, the tv out is not, nor have I ever heard the claim that our phone would out put at 1080p.
I have the iPod cable from Amazon. It works, quality is meh on a 1080p LCD, but it's good enough to share funny YouTube videos at a party or what have you.
It also works great with netflixs.

Xbox HDMI To Surface HDMI...Possible?

Well, this is more of a curiosity question than a practical. I was wondering if it was possible to get my Xbox running on my Surface screen, considering my surface is just a computer with a screen, I've tried HDMI to HDMI Mini, but I didn't think that would work... and it didn't.
Like I said, I don't need the answer, but it would be nice knowing I could play on my Xbox on the go.
No, Surface only has hdmi out and not hdmi in.

That's a Damn shame.
It's the same on all laptops. I've never yet seen a single one that could take HDMI in.
The only devices I have seen with HDMI in have been displays (of course) and video capture devices.
You can use a usb HDMI capture device as an input, bit latency on those things is sky high to the point that all games will be unplayable.
Otherwise. No computer to my knowledge has HDMI input abilities, including the surface.

My question now is.... why? Is it a hardware issue? Too me it makes no sense, I can't work out why they wouldn't make it possible.

Yes, it hardware. It like you cannot put 3.5mm microphone jack into 3.5mm headphone jack on many mp3 player and phone. It design to output port. Not input port. Except some device that combine output/input port into one.
Processors and graphics cards only ever have HDMI output. Never input. It would be an intensive task to record an HDMI input.
Now you could suggest that they rewire tye HDMI port directly to the screen, sadly the screen is not an HDMI screen on a laptop or tablet. Its usually LDVS or DSI, the former is more common. HDMI to LDVS adaptors exist but would add cost to the device and increase the amount of electronics you need to fit inside the shell of the laptop or tablet, your already space restricted in there.
Cheers everyone
Actually, you can connect your Xbox's HDMI into the Surface Pro, if you have an HD PVR, or any similar HDMI Capture Card.

Already mentioned capture devices. The latency on them (particularly USB ones) is just terrible. If your using a pass through capture card or hdmi splitter to play Xbox on the TV then the latency doesn't matter, but trust me, trying to play on your computer screen via a capture device is so bad that you might as well not play in the first place.

I can confirm that 100% as I use a HDMI capture card on my desktop PC and it has a 50ms latency which is terrible, but I use it to record my Black Ops 2 videos from the in-game Vault so it's not a problem to me as I don't use it to directly play on it. But if I have such a huge latency, imagine that with a USB capture card like the Hauppauge HD-PVR ! It'd just be unplayable.

I have an HDMI Capture Card via USB, and I know they're not meant to play on a Computer Screen.
Why should you even do that (unless you're without a TV, of course)?

That is what was suggested, the OP asked can he play his xbox using the surface as a monitor. USB capture card would be the only way and ,as we have long established, has far too much latency
If only there was an Xbox emulator.

Try emulating a 3.5ghz triple core powerPC CPU on your 1.7ghz dual core surface pro and then come back and ask that question again
Hell, all those guys moaning about no backwards compatibility for the xbox one, there is a reason for no backwards compatibility. 360 uses PowerPC, one uses x86. Emulation will be needed. General rule, to emulate platform A on platform B, platform B must be 10 times more powerful than platform A. Its a general rule, but the xbox one does not meet that requirement yet is way more powerful than the surface is.
The xbox live indie games use XNA and .NET though. No backwards compatibility for them is an absolute joke. It would be relatively trivial for a corporation such as microsoft to have .NET running on the one (infact I would hazard a guess that it will be), why the hell dont they let the indige games carry on over???? But now I am getting off topic.
End conclusion, no Xbox > surface is really possible unless you are screen capturing on a surface pro which would still be an undesirable situation for playing games, only recording.
To be fair he might have meant the original Xbox, which at 500MHz single-core x86 is probably too computationally intensive for the Surface RT (beacuse of the need to emulate x86) but might be possible even so, and would be trivial for the Pro. However, Microsoft does not generally approve of such emulators.
Yeah, original Xbox could well draw on existing hardware but no one has had much success as of yet which is a shame.

Yeah that's what I meant. I have a Pro and currently run several emulators. I am aware of the 360 specs but was mistaken that this thread wasn't about Original Xbox.

Original Xbox and pre elite 360s didn't have an HDMI out which is what was being discussed.
