Phone shuts down as soon as I connect to USB charging cable - Captivate General

Anybody has any idea if it's known issue. My phone just shuts down as soon as I connect USB cable to it. Be it charger or car charger. It shuts down regardless what condition phone is in (i.e. booting, fully booted, at ATT logo screen during boot). It just immediately shuts down as soon as detect USB current.
After 15 or so tries so far it accepted USB charge finally and does not show this symptoms anymore. But this happens couple of times a month to me.
I noticed that USB socket is loose on a phone, that is it can rotate along axis about 15% both ways. Is it normal for Captivate or it's possible loose contacts on motherboard?

I'm really sure the socket isn't supposed to have any give whatsoever.

Did you find a solution to this, I am seeing this now and I have 3 chargers home/car/work and all show same behavior. So if this is socket issue I am assuming it is my phone....
Please let me know if you found any solution...

My phone was replaced but issue still remains. It appears have something to do with battery and battery connector to the phone. Remove and reinsert battery couple of times and issue will go away.

On my Captivate, the USB (mini B) socket is absolutely firm relative to the outer shell of the phone. If that puppy has got any movement, I'd bet a buck or two there's a loose connection at the main board.

Captivate dies when plugged in
I just bought a captivate from ebay and it will not charge or sync either instantly dies ive tried two different chargers and even looked and soilder joints for usb anyone know what to do???

A wrong battery can cause this. I bought a battery for Verizon Facinate. Although it is the same exact shape and size, the model # of the battery is slightly different in last two letters. And it will shut down the phone whenever I try to charge it. Switched to a Sprint Epic battery and all works fine. Obviously, Facinate belong to a familiy of Galaxy S i5xx, not i9000.

Mogul not charging with car charger - just wall charger.

I couldn't find a Mogul-specific forum - I hope this is in the right place! If not, I apologize in advance.
Just posting here to see if anyone has any ideas on this one..
The Mogul USED to charge with the car charger, then one day, just stopped working. It still gets charged by using the wall outlet charger.
I tried in another car thinking it may be my car - no dice.
I bought another charger off ebay thinking it was the charger, and that one does not work either.
I then had my buddy who also has a mogul try the car chargers, and both chargers charge his phone fine. I think the only thing I did not try is to put his battery in my phone, and see if it charges my phone.
I'm guessing though somehow it's the connector? But why would the wall plug work?!
My buddy's on his way over now - I'll test it with his battery. If it's still not charging I have no idea what to do. Could it be software related? Something I recently installed? It seems more hardware related to me..
Any ideas are helpful - thanks!!
Just a guess, but maybe the car charger uses different pins to charge with than the AC charger, and one of those pins in your phone might be bent out of place.
hmm, possibly.. I guess I'll call Sprint today. I tried another battery in it and it's still not charging - so it's definitely the phone
It must be a hardware issue.
I had the same issue with my car charger. It is a verizon universal one with a mini-usb connector. It is made for the Razr, Q, etc. I found that if i plug it into the splitter thing that came with the mogul, and then plug that into the mogul, it seems to work better. It also makes it easier to use the headset in the car while charging it too.
I tried that too - using the splitter and plugging the charger into that - still no worky
I called Sprint and they basically told me I need to bring it in to a service location, pay the $50 deductible, and get a new one.
I guess that's cool. haha

My problem is quite opposite to the above. I bought a samsung gt i5503 3days ago. Till yesterday my wall charger worked perfect. Today morning when i connected the wall charger my mobile was switched of with a warning " Android S.....! ( I can't even see the warning) and the battery icon gone red before it was switched off. I tried a few times but the problem is same. Then connected the USB data cable and it worked fine. But i have done a search in google and found a tip in XDA forum link. That is to switch of the mobile and remove the battery for few seconds and replace the battery. That's worked fine for once only. The second time the phone switched off again. Then i repeated previous step "removed and replaced the battery" and it worked again for once only. Now I have a doubt on the charger that from the first day some times it took too long to charge and some times while charging the battery level gone down quickly when i received a call. Suggest me if any other tips can help me..! or should i replace the charger.
Doesn't put out enough amperage, or different pins.
My Samsung gt i5503 switches off when charger connected... Plz need help...!
I'm scared to go to service center. All the mobile service centers are not so good at servicing in Hyderabad. i had the experience with nokia, micromax, sony service centers. They might fix the problem. But the other problems may rise after servicing. Help me how to fix this ?

Nexus S I9023T doesn't charge

To whom it might concern,
I have been struggling here in Egypt to fix my Nexus S phone, I purchased the phone from T-Mobile USA and It’s not anymore under warranty. I sent my phone to a couple different Samsung service providers here in Egypt, but the problem is that the Nexus S not a popular phone in the Egyptian Market and they couldn’t fix it for me.
The problem started when I first left my phone over the night charging and I went to sleep. I woke up in the morning and the phone is only at %30, I can’t charge the phone whether by using a USB or wall adapter. My phone is currently dead and one last thing to be mentioned is that when I connect the charger I only can see the power bolt symbol but if I go to the settings of the battery it does show “Discharging”.
Thanks in advance, any help will be very much appreciated.
Well I'm no expert but I had the same problem but with my battery for my laptop. Even plugged in it said Discharging so it might be the battery. Sounds plausible since you see the bolt or it could be something with the hardware with a bad connection between the battery pins and the NS pins on the phone.
But as I said I'm no expert.
Maybe it's the usb charger port of the phone, having the same issue here! Though not as extreme as you, I ordered a new charger port but I have yet to put it in, think I will bring it to an expert in soldering. Also, you can buy a battery charger on ebay so you can at least charge your battery.
I also would like to mention something extra, I did buy a new battery like a week ago. I install the battery, the phone finally turns on, battery shows around %60 i try again to connect different chargers or even my usb cable and again the battery status is "Discharging" and i see the bolt symbol. I try to turn off the phone and take out the battery and turn it on back, again the battery drained so fast to around %50.
how possible can i check if its a faulty usb port?? and where can i find it online since this phone is not in the egyptian market!!!

Well I don't think it's the battery, sometimes when you pull the battery and turn it back on there will be a jump, don't know what causes this, not an expert. You can check wether it's a faulty usb port by trying different/new cables. If you wiggle the cable around a bit do you see any change in status? If it's not the cables, did you do anything software related? I've found that coming from ICS rom to jelly bean it got a bit more responive to my cables (maybe plasebo).

Very strange charging problem!

Ok, first a little background on this issue...
After having my S3 for about 13-14 months I started having charging issues. The charging port was very "loose" and I had to make sure my charger cable was in just right to get my phone to charge. This was annoying, however was out of warranty and didn't want to pay vzw for an insurance claim. This got worse, and eventually I noticed my phone would only charge with 1 specific usb cable, 1 specific wall charger, and 1 specific car charger.
Well, I finally called Samsung and explained the situation to them and they had me chip my phone to them and they would repair it, free of charge. When they had it, they replaced the charging port, the headphone jack, and the screen. I received the phone back after couple weeks, super excited, and immediately charged it up with the cable I had next to my bed. New charging port felt perfect, nice snug fit, etc... Well, after a few days i hooked it up with the original usb cable that came with the phone, nothing happened. So i started messing around and realized that the only usb cables that will charge my phone are Motorola brand cables! At least the 2 cables I have work, and not a single other cable I've tried works! This includes stock Samsung cable, many cheap 3rd party cables, other friend's S3 cables, none work. Also, I have this cheap car charger that is the type you plug a USB cable into that works, however any other car charger I've tried does not work either.
Also, when i say the cables won't charge my phone, it also won't connect the phone to a PC. They do absolutely nothing.
Does anyone have ANY idea why this is happening?!?! It was an issue before Samsung repaired my phone, they replaced the charging port, but I still have this issue!! I can send it back to Samsung for them to look at it again, however my backup phone, a Razr Maxx, just died also. Seems like the battery went dead and now I can't get it to charge, but that's another issue.
So, any ideas?!

What rom/kernal
It doesn't matter. It does this when it is totally stock and rooted. Right now I'm not rooted or anything because it looks like it may be going back to Samsung again.

I think the smart charging circuit may be messed up
Really? How would that cause the phone to not work with any cable except a certain brand?? I'm just really curious and this is driving me insane!!

I would say you are putting mechanical stress on the charging port. This could be from some misaligned or mis-made cable or somehow pressing or pulling the charge cable when its connected. I've never seen this reported by anyone else, but the mechanical connections are not indestructible. If it were a common symptom with 100 million S3s having been sold, there would be a firestorm of complaints.
I have a similar issue. I'm not sure if it's the device or the ROM (CM nightlies).
Certain cables force the screen to turn back on, which means I get negative charge because the screen burns more than the charger is capable of supplying. Other cables are fine. I'm still looking for the pattern, it's super annoying and causes me to have to turn my phone off completely at times so as not to lose my battery altogether. I'm still trying to solve this, any help would be appreciated.

Further info- it's not the cable, it's the converter at the end. I think it has to do with amperage of the charger- if I use the stock samsung one I'm good, it's putting out 1.0A. If I use others that are fewer amps (like 700 mA) it's unpredictable. I suspect a kernel thing, I might download different kernels to play with it.

Always use chargers that is 1 A - 2A the circuit controls most of the charging regulating amps and voltage
Yes, I agree about using good chargers, but my phone wasn't always this way. It used to charge with anything, but no longer.
I enabled fast charge on Imosyen's lean kernel. That might have made a difference, but I'm not positive yet.

Note Pro 12.2 wont turn on not rooted (Solved)

Hello guys, i am hoping that you can help me because i don't know where else to turn. I purchased a Verizon note pro 12.2. I was using it and on for about two weeks until i got my surface 3. Two days ago i went to use it and it wouldnt turn on. I assumed it was the battery so i put it on the original charger for about an hour and attempted to turn it on. It booted to the Verizon logo then flickered off. I put it back on the charger overnight thinking that would fix the problem. When i attempted to turn it back on it loaded to the Samsung splash screen and then turned off again. When i plugged in the charger once again the grey battery icon came up saying the battery was 100%. Even with the battery saying it was 100% it still wont turn past the splash screen. This only happens when it connect to the charger. it doesn't do anything at all if it is not plugged in. I have taken the battery out and reconnected it... still nothing. Looking at other post i assumed it was a software issue so i tried to sideload a stock version (Cant use odin because the tablet cant even boot into odin mode) of P905VVRUANK1 which is what the tablet was running. I got the error footer is wrong security authentication failure. I dont know what to do. Please help!!
correction i did not sideload (wrong terminology) i tried to flash through recovery mode.

Probably you have a loose or cracked battery connector. Try this, power on while pressing hard on the back near the center ( location of battery connector ). If it can boot this way, you need to re solder the battery connector.

I have seen this problem in many Tab Pro or Note Pro: it cannot turn on even with full battery. When battery connector's pins are open or cracked, your tablet won't be able to turn on. There are too many unknowns such as USB charging port, battery connector, or battery. You need this tool to find out where is the problem:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro....TRS1&_nkw=usb+voltage+current+meter&_sacat=0
When charging, current should be 1.7 Amps.
It sounds silly but I see many users cannot figure out the problem which simply comes from bad USB cable or charger or USB charging port. This tool will eliminate guessing.
Since checking battery connector requires experiences to know the solder joints are good or bad. My recommendation for your problem: Re solder the battery connector if everything else: USB cable, charger, USB port, battery are in good working condition.
Use another battery you won't see the difference if battery connector on main board is cracked or loose.
Cracked battery connector is very common in this tablet but most average users won't see it or don't understand why it's the source of problem.

Weird Charging Issue with Tab 2, 10.1

I rooted my tab and installed Android 6. After I took those steps, I noticed that it wouldn't charge unless it was powered off even though the charging icon indicated that it was charging when it was powered on. Then I stumbled on something that said that if you just barely connected the charging wire to the charger that that would help solve the problem. See http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...-galaxy-tab-2-wont-charge-when-powered-2.html For some reason, this works and I don't know why. Does anyone have any ideas? (Again, when it was totally powered off, it charged fine.

Consider replacing your charging wire and brick. That happened to me way back and I'm glad i don't have to adjust the wire to get it working.
Lightracer,
Thanks for your response. However, my Tab 2 is my backup Tablet, and the charging cord is good enough for me. I am curious as to why barely inserting the wire into the charger causes the Tab 2 to charge correctly. Simply makes no sense, unless a good number of charging cords have the same defects. Also, what is weird to me is that my Tab 2 charges correctly when it is powered off.

Well the answer to this weird issue might seem to be from a software related one. since the same cable charges the tab while it's off. Right?
but in my experience from all the experiments I have done, this issue is solved only by changing the cable or the whole charger or consider replacing the battery(Root cause of your issue).
a battery near it's end would have all sort of weird behaviour.
it will deplete if using while charging, would go from 100 to 5 percent if you restart, then start going up again if left untouched without charging. so there you are!
hope this would make things clear to you now.
