Nexus S System Dump! - HTC Aria Android Development

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875184
Check it out yall

This is just a system dump. We need source code to build for the aria. The nexus s is made by samsung not htc so it's drivers are different.

Is the source code released by..samsung? or google? or the devs?

Samsung will release the kernel source for the Nexus S. Every device has it's own specific kernel. If you go to developer.htc.com you will see source for htc devices. This isn't 2.3. The kernel boots the phone and communicates with the hardware. Google will release the source code to gingerbread which is what we need.

No that is the kernel code for the Samsung hardware. The Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) code base has not yet been released by Google.

Can I build the stock nexus s rom from source?

Is there a way for me to download the latest nexus s rom, from the same source google uses to build it, and build a completely stock nexus s rom? If so where are these repositories and how do you build it?
Yes there certainly is. The source code repo is on github but I don't have the link with me. A thread already floating around here on compiling the kernel from source, search it out.

This is so tiring. Another thread about worthless source code. Source code without drivers compiled for our device against ICS is worthless. Devs cannot build an ICS build that will be stable without specific drivers built for iCS and the new kernel. Until LG releases or at least leaks an ICS build for our phone, we are not going to get a stable ICS rom, despite their being AOSP source code.

i never said anything about the devs to start making rom didnt i???? now that source code is release brands like lg will start working on then since they said they would. i know htc said that ics will come to my sensation earlier 2012
and even though developers make an ics rom without the manufacture release its versio it would not work correctly because of the drivers. it will have problems with gps etc etc

Release of ICS source code is still an important development for community rom development.
We can still get a stable build by compiling ICS against Gingerbread kernel.
We have fully working drivers for Gingerbread kernel.
Yes but the cookie in Ice Cream Sandwich is not Gingerbread.

I really hope you're right. My only concern before getting this phone was that of NVIDIA providing the devs with the drivers that we need for further Android updates.

[Q] AOSP Build for GT-B5330

Hi *
I've just run trough all the setps to be able to build aosp on ubuntu. Currently I'm running a build, looks like it will take a while.
My goal is to build an aosp rom for the samsung galaxy chat, samsung provides downloads for 'platform' and kernel.
My question is, what should I do with the sources of the kernel and the platform, do I need to integrate them into the aosp source?
cheers

It would be easier for you to use the cyanogenmod source instead. I found this easier for me than trying to use aosp source.

I have the repo setup for CM10 as well, I even added the skeleton files for the b5330 using the mkvendor script and the boot.img I pulled off the device. Still though, what am I to do with the platform and kernel files provided by samsung?
where to find kernel source code?
Can you please give me the link to kernel source code??

They release the Android code. AOSP.
That code is then being modified by Samsung, HTC, Sony, AOKP devs and CM devs to roll out their ROMs.

Oh ok thanks that clarifies it. I guess they also have to wait for the samsung kernels and modems though

Miui to s6 with touchwiz

Hello guys is it possible to devs porting miui rom with touchwiz i think you guys understand.
Sent from my SM-G920F using XDA Free mobile app
What? Miui is based on cyanogen mod. So there is no cm with touchwiz. First let the devs create a functional cm build. This might take a while.

What?! AFAIK Official MIUIs are based on stock firmwares, CM based MIUIs come only when the stock firmware is an outdated version of Android.
Moto X '14 via Tapatalk.
No always been based on cm. Please
Correct me someone if I'm wrong but you can't base on the stock firmware since there is no source. And cm has.

The kernel. The HALs which are needed for a build of Vanilla remain a closed mystery.

I think it does for the kernel source
Thanks for the answers

The kernel source has to be released because of the GPL but everything else is closed source. That's why it is so hard to built cm for exynos chips.

Just curious as to why it was easier to build for the snapdragon of that source should ve closed as well.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920AZ
I'm not sure what of the source is published but the fact that the exynos is proprietary of samsung and the snapdragon open source makes it way easier to built for a device with a snapdragon than for a device with a exynos.
