Hello, i'm trying to get linux running on this pda. As there's no specific port (or i did not find any), i'd tried several packages like Rhoubuntu, project Android (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=627997), also titchy linux (btw ran succefuly on my old HTC Uni. ), but basically, i've got struct with HaRET. The early log file looks fine, the image is loaded, but all ends up at "Jumping to kernel" message. May some haret arguments change help? or haret will not work with this device?. Do you have anybody some experience with running linux on MC75A, or similar?

I'm sorry for being so loud, but I've seen a few "progress pages" in Wikis and I still can't get a clear picture of who (if anyone) is actually working on linux for the HTC Magician (Qtek s100, iMate Jam, Dopod xxx, etc.).
I found this project:

and it appears to be very very promising; it already delivers some small functionality on the magician (I've tried it). But there is much much work to do before it can be released to the general public.
In general, I don't think there are many people working to get the Magician on Linux...
So I am asking here: are you working on this? do you know who is working on this?
I am a SW developer by trade, but I have no time at home to code.
However, I would like to give whatever little time I can find to:
- act as a beta tester;
- develop one or two patches (kernel mostly);
so we can get Linux running on the Magician.

Hi. As vnevoa found out, I am working on the Magician when I find the time.
Unfortunately, to my knowledge, there is no-one else currently working on this. So developers are needed!
For people interested in kernel hacking, there is the [email protected] mailing list and the #htc-linux IRC channel on freenode.net
The biggest missing parts currently are battery control, sound and the phone.
For everyone else, any improvements to the Magician wiki pages would be more than welcome. To build a proper userspace image for the Magician, support for this machine in OpenEmbedded has to be improved.

What is the current state of the version for the Magician? Does it boot to GPE?
This is a great thing, really. No need to flash a new firmware, and boot linux! Amazing. I'm using Linux on ipaq and it is very nice. But I would miss phone operation. With haret we can have both things running.

USB host works, but it is not connected to the usb plug.
The bluetooth chipset is a CSR usb chip.

does that mean, usbnet is not possible? in my case, nothing happens if i connect the magician to my computer. dmesg and lsusb say nothing about a new device. insmodding usbnet doesnt help either. tried the same with a htc universal, usbnet works fine on my machine.
[edit]works for now, if connected via external-powered usb-hub. maybe a driver problem? activesync in windows-mobile is possible without using the hub.[/edit]
And if you check the website you can see all teh file you need to download if anyone know a programm for make call/sms/mms or ONLY calls and run on this linux please give information about

mmmm i have some trouble with extracting the gpe archive it's seem to be corrupted soooo bad.
BUT the first problem it's this famous default.txt the script to run haret if anyone have a working script please copy information here of the .txt file that's can be helpfull.
the error of my default.txt is: Failed to load kernel \carte de stockage\zimage
must i need to rename the zimage file???
and i have a question ... it's possible to make a "bootable" SD? if yes i can try to run another handled linux perhaps???
OK i have found i must rename the magician-zimage-2.6.XXXX to : "zimage"
so i have downlaod latest version of haret and take the default.txt WITHOUT changing
harte start but of course i haven't the gpe file so it's say error BUT it's launch now i must really found a good archive i have try under linux but the archive still in read only i can't change it to read AND write so all i uncompress are still not working under linux it's better on windows don't know why .....
(mmm risk to brick my magician if i try another gpe file .......)

I am running a rooted stock JB. I have a Debian (tried also Ubuntu) in a chroot environment running, and I am using a vncserver to run X applications. Some things like lxde and gedit are running fine. Others, in particular all KDE applications (but also others) are not running at all or look completely chaotic (most GUI elements missing, black and/or in the wrong place) and are unusable. I tried some time ago the same thing on my phone (HTC Desire Z with CyanogenMod - unfortunately recently bricked so I cannot try anything anymore), there everything ran just fine (despite very slow).
Is this maybe due to missing features in the kernel of the stock firmware? Are there any ticks to get around these limitations without flashing another ROM? (I would rather not void my warrenty...)

I run Ubuntu in chroot everyday but I've never messed with vnc.
Sent from whatever device I happened to pick up.
My guess is that the number of people using Ubuntu on the tf700 is quite small, so you might not be able to get the answer to your question here. However, there is a support thread for Ubuntu on the tf700, you might want to ask your question there:

As the title suggests, of those who have tried out Linux Deploy (for those of you who don't know what this, Its an app that automates setting up of chroot Linux and provides a few different "graphics subsystems" vnc, xserver and framebuffer) have you managed to get framebuffer working?
Seems like its largely trial and error as to getting the correct settings, I was unable to get this working using CAF Cyanogenmod. Maybe its dependent on kernel configuration, i was unable to find any reports of this working on the nexus 5.
Are you still doing anything with this? Currently working to try to get a Fedora install on my phone.

I want install Ubuntu to my tablet Asus Transformer TF101 as dualboot with Android. I found a lot of topics about this, but all are very old (about 3 years) and links for tools are down. Could you help me what way - tool, approach is appropriate in this time? I found several ways for Windows/Linux OS with different tools, I can use Windows or Linux - it does not matter, but I can not find currently right way and tool. Thanks for advices.
I don't think that there is "right way" for such dualboot. "Kexec" should do that, but as far as I know, there were no success of using it with TF101. However, there is "wrong" (but still working) way to reach similar result.
It is possible to create blob that flashes kernel/initrd of linux/android disto and reboot afterthat. It is one-time solution, however and it will require to flash same blob again after OS boot, but it is still better that nothing.

I have recently inherited an Asus TF101 EEEpad and have spent ages trying to find a way to root, install a custom ROM or a lightweight linux on it. Most of the links on this forum seem to have expired or don't work. I got root to work eventually with Kingo Root (at least the Root Checker app says the device is rooted). TWRP crashes frequently and reports 'no recovery partition found' if I try to flash.
Also, I don't seem to be able to reach APX mode. I have tried holding down the power and vol up buttons, but there is no sign of the device when i do 'adb devices' in native OS X or my Windows virtual machine.
Has anyone flashed this device / installed a new OS recently? I would like to run Lubuntu or maybe Arch with LXDE if this is possible...
Any pointers welcome.

I'm in the same case of you.
Try to find older file to be able to make the dual boot possible on this old tablet.
But in vain all interessting files are not reachable or i have got "error 404" not found on the download pages.
Try to contact the creator of the OLIFE script and i'm waiting.
if you have news on it tell me.
I will try to apply a second MOD - ADD a HDD on it = like a member done before - the pictures are not avaible but i have understand the process and i like to make DIY.
And another MOD = integrate a 3G or 4G key in it.

I had issues with APX too, but after installing Universal Naked Drivers on Win 10 I managed to get TWRP on and then KatKiss 6.0 (Android) on.
Really interested in learning how to get Ubuntu Touch or any distro really on if anyone's still listening to this thread.

Yes, indeed as you say. I do maintain this repository and a Linux distro on this tab is the way to go. It allows you to install updated software and bring it back to life. The GPU is not working, unfortunately, but it's very useful if you want to do lightweight tasks. You have to do some tweaks to get there but it's worth the result if you want to tinker with it.
By the way, I have collected as much as possible about the TF101 (before XDA migrated to the new infrastructure) and I uploaded it here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/tf101-linux-images/files/
