Wireless tether AP not visible on other Galaxy Phones`

Hi friends
i installed Wireless tether app from
hxxp://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list?can=2&q=NexusOne
everything works fine my iphone and my PC are able to see my AP and are able to use the tethered internet , the only problem is my friends with Captivate and Vibrant phone cannot see this access point no matter what we tried ,
is there something different in the way the AP is being broadcasted ? and how to fix this issue.
any help appreciated
Thanks
Anil
It is because most of those wireless tethering app can't make your phone as true wi-fi access point (infrastruture mode) but rather use ad-hoc mode. PCs and iPhones can access ad-hoc network but most Android phones can't.

what?!

That means those so-called wireless tethering apps are virtually ueseless. Android, or maybe just Samsung, doesn't support ad-hoc wireless networks.
To make an infrastructure mode wi-fi access point is much more complicated task.

hmm ive used barnacle in ad-hoc mode and it works fine for me for tethering...ive also used the wireless tether proggy in adhoc and it works fine on my captivate...
This will probably be fixed with froyo. Or i hope it is.

It will work fine between a PC and the phone. Ad-hoc is only an issue when trying to connect from phone to phone. Android phones (all that I have used) do not support connecting to an ad-hoc wireless network.
Android does not support ad-hoc wifi. Sad really, i found this out long ago when i had an Archos 5 Android tablet briefly. Every other device/toy i've owned (Nokia N800/N810/N900, iPod Touch, iPad) with the exception of Android devices and the Zune HD do ad-hoc wifi.

Open NAT for tethering xbox

I need some help, as I'm kinda clueless with networking. I have an Ubuntu desktop connected to the same monitor my 360 is. I can connect to xbl a few different ways.
1. With the d-link wireless gaming adapter, set to adhoc mode, connected to my wifi tether.
2. USB/wifi tethering the desktop to my phone and sharing the internet connection with the Ethernet port where my Xbox is plugged in.
I've used, wifi tether for root users, barnacle (which supposedly allows port forwarding), built in USB and wifi tether (I'm on cm7 nightly with an HTC glacier)
I've managed to connect, but NAT is set to strict on all. Does anybody know how to change this? I don't know if there's a way to change this within the build.prop, or some other file?
Any help or advice would be much appreciated. I just have no other internet connection.

The lack of response really blows. I have the same exact issue and I cant fathom there not being a way around it . I'll keep looking and please let me know if you stumble upon something that works
The "nat type strict" we see on xbox live, from reading around allot deals with the bandwidth(speed) of your internet. If you use fast wifi, your nat type will be ok, but if someone goes on your wifi an use the internet, it's slower. The internet speeds we get from the cell towers is no where fast enough to change it.
If I helped, give thanks, if you please.

Mobile hotspots wifi tethering on jb roms?

Has anyone been successful in getting wifi tethering (mobile hotspots) to work on a CM10 rom? I use wifi tether for root users. And it seems to work when I connect from a laptop or PC with wifi but it just doesn't seem to wanna work when I try to connect another android device such as an sgs3. Is there some kinda setting or something I'm missing? I'm using a P6200

hi,
searched a long time for the solution of the same problem... seems it´s like a strategic plan of t he producers... if it would be easy nobody would pay the 100 euros difference to upgrade to a 3g version...
found a solution (not perfect, only for emergency cases) for me: i installed open garden wifi tethering (from market) onto my htc hd2 - miui (stable version 6 by langthang). hence in its settings: activate "use bluetooth connection (pan)". enable bluetooth on the tab.
start tethering by pushing the large wifi-symbol on handyscreen. give superuser permission; confirm the pairing. just wait some seconds; then you have to enter into the settings of the new paired bluetooth device on the tab (in my case its simply called hd2) and activate the internet-option.
Now it should work (you can see the traffic on the handy-screen)

[Q] S3 as usb wifi adapter?

Hi,
During PC LAN parties with my friends, my Wireless card lags and skips (its a pretty old wifi card). I usb tether a lot and it runs really fast, but it uses a lot of data.
What I want to do is use my phone as a wifi reciever. I thought I could just usb tether to my pc, but instead of using 4g, connect my phone to wifi and use that, but when ever I usb tether, it makes me turn off wifi.
Is there any way I can do this? Preferably without using something like PDA net, but if thats my only option, ill use it.
I am using the latest version of "Clean Rom" and I am rooted running 4.3

[Q] USB Reverse tethering two android phones to have internet access

Hello, I would like to access the internet connectivity on one android phone from another one via usb tether (not wifi/bluetooth). Can usb tethering or reverse tethering enable this? So far I have learned that the android phones can only be tethered to PC's. Also does the special pass-through feature on the HTC One series enable connecting to another phone or tablet?
I have a Galaxy S2 HD LTE SHV-E120S rooted. Would installing Cyanogenmod enable such a function?
